QUESTION 2
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
IDEOLOGIES
 The male artist I have used conforms to the codes
and conventions that I researched of a typical
grime artist, this being that he appears combative.
His wardrobe and styling, is plain but powerful the
use of just a plain black t-shirt is very conforming
to the codes and conventions . I wanted to present
Beau as a powerful man, due to the type of shots
that I have used such as close ups and extreme
close ups. I also wanted to portray him looking
serious, yet dangerous. This will draw in readers as
they will see the typical codes and conventions
used in my front cover and will be able to relate
this to other magazine front covers of a similar
genre.
FRONT COVER
 In my front cover I have tried to engage with the male based
audience I have done this by using a male as the main image. By
doing this it will be instantly relatable to the males viewing the
magazine and gives the magazine a more personal feel. The facial
expression that Beau is using can be seen as threatening and plays
into the mise-en-scene of danger and rebellion. The clothing that
Beau is seen featuring clothes similar to what my target market
would be wearing this will once again create a relationship with the
audience and appeal to the males who are planning on purchasing
the magazine.
LAYOUT
 My contents page is intentionally kept plain and simple and to
keep the writing to a minimum. The target audience are males
aged from 16-24 and from my focus groups a found out that
these males prefer bold headlines that let them know what the
story is about and to avoid long drawn out pointless paragraphs.
 I've only used one image in my contents page as I really want to
convey the importance of Beau as the figurehead of the
magazine and by having such a vocal point it shows Beau as
powerful and can be relatable to the audience who will be
intrigued by him.
 I’ve used simple headings and numbers to show a simple but
classy side of the magazine, the way the magazines of these
genres are presented is very basic but very effective and I feel like
mine also conveys that.
 In the production of my magazine I chose to aim the magazine at males aged
from 16-24 I’ve used Beau as the model as he is in that age bracket and so can be
more relatable to the audience that I am aiming at. I have chosen to keep it male
orientated as it is a male dominated genre and so will appeal to the mass male
market. By doing this however I possibly limit my audience as females may not
respond well to an intimidating male on the front of a magazine but from my
focus groups women will be likely not be purchasing and looking at the
magazine.
SHOTTYPES
I have used a medium close up for the front cover, the reason I have used a
medium close up is to give the artist an air of supierioty the shot is taken
from a low angle also which means the artist is looking down on the reader
however when I asked my focus groups what they thought of the image they
stated that they felt that by including his body within the shot he wasn’t as
intimating as he could be.
