 My magazine was mainly inspired by Billboard as I researched them
before thinking about my own magazine. I have used a lot of
conventions of pop music magazines such as using a dominant
image on the front cover and having a masthead which stands out at
the top of the magazine. I have included cover lines and sub images
and headings. I have also included a barcode, date and price for the
magazine and when it comes out. I put a frame around my sub
image to separate it from the background while also choosing a
contrasting colour for it so it doesn’t look odd. My contents page
has the main ‘contents’ masthead at the top which is a convention of
magazines. I have included a music charts which is fairly popular on
contents pages of pop music magazines. The layout of my double
page spread is similar to some magazines which have the image
over both pages with the article around the image.
 My pop music magazine represents the social group of
teens/young adults which are interested in pop music. I had
represented them with my colour choices, layouts, images etc
so they are attracted to the magazine. I have used mainly
blue as my background colour for my contents page and my
double page spread which is commonly known to be a male
colour however blue can be for either men or women. The
main image on my front cover represents how younger aged
people are when they form a band and they create specific
poses. I aimed for my magazine to represent this social group
as it would interest them the most and this type of audience
is who buys magazines most. My colour scheme represents
the vibrant colours in which younger people are more
interested in.
 Different types of media institutions which may distribute my magazine
would be:
◦ Supermarkets/newsagents
◦ Publishers (Bauer Media, Future plc etc.)
◦ Music shops
◦ Concerts/Festivals
 Supermarkets/newsagents could distribute my magazine as they have a
variety of magazines which they sell as well as music magazines.
 Publishers are likely to distribute my magazine as some publishers publish
music magazines so it would depend on their area of specialty.
 Music shops such as HMV are likely to distribute my magazine as it is a genre
of music especially as it is pop music which is most popular nowadays
therefore there will be a lot of customers who would be interested.
 Concerts/Festivals would distribute my magazine as it would interest the
types of people which would be at those events.
 My potential target audience is mainly aimed at
men and women who are between the ages of
16-26. This is because I feel like the type of
magazine would appeal to that age range the
most. When I researched the type of people who
were most interested, it came up with both men
and women between the ages of 16-30 however I
chose up to 26 from the results of my survey, no
one over that age read music magazines. My
target audience will attract a large audience
which will make the magazine successful. My
magazine has a general article however I feel like
it will interest women more than men due to
what the article is about.
 I have attracted my target audience by using a colour
scheme which fits with what they like. By doing my
audience survey beforehand helped me get more of
an idea of what people between 16-26 liked. My
colour scheme is mainly blue and black which could
typically be addressed for a male however I feel blue
is also a females colour. My article features a band
which have released more songs therefore I feel this
will attract all genders in my age range. My image fits
my pages perfectly and I have made it look
professional which makes the magazine more
appealing to most people. My masthead on my front
cover is black and white however it is bold and gives
of the kind of ‘flashlight’ vibe which fits perfectly in
with the ‘pop’ genre.
 By constructing my music magazine, I have learnt how to
use a few more technologies. I had to use Photoshop to
create my magazine as well as using it to edit my photos
and all of my text. I had never used Photoshop before so
by doing this product it has helped me learn how to use
something completely different.
 I learnt how to use blogger which I did not know a lot
about beforehand. I had never made a blog before but by
constructing this product I have now learnt how to use
that. With using blogger, I can now upload images as well
as creating tabs, pages, embedding presentations etc.
Which I did not know how to do previously.
 Lastly I have learnt how to construct/create a magazine. I
have learnt about the different features, codes and
conventions and how to construct it efficiently.
 When I first created my preliminary task, I did not know how to use
anything however throughout the process of creating it, I learnt how
to do different things. This has been mainly learning how to use
Photoshop which is quite a lot as there are multiple things I have
had to learn how to do. I have learnt different codes and conventions
which I did not know before and I have learnt how to improve on my
first general idea.
 I have also learnt how to manage my time efficiently. We had a time
frame when creating our preliminary task however we went over that
as it was taking longer than expected. By having that experience, it
made me realise that I had to use my time wisely and make sure I
was putting my full effort in to get it done on time. I did some of my
work outside of lesson times so I would have it done quickly and on
time.
