Question 2 :
How effective is the
combination of your
main product and
ancillary texts.
Rory Oakley
Introduction
Along side with our documentary our group had to provide
two corresponding texts, being a radio trailer and
magazine article. These two prouducts had the same
connations in order to correspond well with each other.
The magazine Article
 In order to make the documentary appeal to it’s target
audience the white and red colour scheme is used
throughout as it looks heavily affiliated with YouTube. In
order to make the magazine as effective as possible
before hand we researched other magazine articles
such as ‘Banned Theft Auto’ for inspiration.
Analysis of article
Use of Date stamp: The date stamp is used to show the publication of the magazine
as well as the magazine it’s published in. In our case this was The Radio Times.
The use of subtitles allowed us to give further knowledge of the documentary and a
breakdown of our documentary’s title, this engages the specific target audience to
keep on reading the article.
Our use of figures and facts work well as it sets out to attract our target audience of
You Tuber's but also attracts a new secondary audience of people who are interested
in the topic because of these informative figures.
Our use of the screen shots from the documentary shows our readers what they can
expect from the documentary and the content used throughout it.
The use of the YouTube logo initially lets the audience know what they’re about to
read, the size of the logo is a very important factor as it boldly stands out.
Radio Trailer
We created a radio trailer using GarageBand. Firstly we listened to
previous radio trailers in order to gain an idea of how they should
sound. We found that most of these adverts were highly enthusiastic
so decided to use this approach when recording ours. In order to
correspond with our documentary we used specific and relevant clips
from our documentary such as voxpops and expert interviews, overall
I would say we met the codes and conventions of a radio trailer and
made our documentary sound appealing to others.
We were able to put our radio trailer on the music streaming website
Sound Cloud as it’s highly accessible, popular and is a simple way of
distributing audio. As well as this it is something our mainly young
target audience will know how to use.
Conclusion
 Overall our group’s magazine article and radio trailer
displays the successful use of corresponding media
products to go along side the documentary. Throughout
it maintains the theme of YouTube and promotes the
documentary. The three products compliment each
other and add a sense of professionalism to the whole
project
