This document discusses and compares qualitative research types including phenomenology, grounded theory, and ethnographic research. Phenomenology aims to understand the meaning participants place on experiences through methods like interviews and observations. Grounded theory generates theories from collected data through interviews and documents. Ethnographic research observes target users in their natural environment through interviews and participant observation. Grounded theory and ethnography both study phenomena in natural settings and use multiple data sources, but grounded theory does not review literature first and uses theoretical sampling while ethnography uses purposive sampling and focuses on a single cultural aspect.
