This document summarizes a project conducted by Sahyadri Narayana Multispecialty Hospital to improve awareness of basic learning subjects among nursing staff. The project assessed nurses' knowledge before and after classroom trainings covering topics like hand washing, waste management, needlestick injuries, and emergency codes. Pre-training evaluations found confusion around codes and lack of knowledge of goals and classifications. Post-training evaluations saw improved awareness, with 96% of nurses knowledgeable in all subjects. The hospital plans to continue periodic clinical trainings and evaluations to maintain nursing competency.

11.  According to one study, 42% of healthcare-
related life-threatening events and 28% of
medication adverse reactions are preventable.
 Developing a culture in which nurses can ask
questions and function in a professional
working environment without anxiety can
reduce these alarming statistics. Nurses play
a vital role in preventing events that may
negatively impact patient health.

12.  Nursing errors commonly revolve around patient falls,
infections, medication errors, documenting errors,
and equipment injuries. These include failure to:
* collaborate with other healthcare team members
* clarify interdisciplinary orders
* ask for and offer assistance
* utilize evidence-based performance guidelines or
bundles
* communicate information to patients and families
* limit overtime
* adequately staff patient care units with enough
nurses to allow them to safely provide care.

13.  A nursing staff with a good knowledge of the
clinical care of the patient is the backbone of
any of the hospital. To achieve a quality
patient care it is very important that the
nursing team is strengthened and trained
time to time.

20. Based on the questionnaire evaluation following
finding were made:
 Staffs had confusion regarding the hospital
emergency codes.
 Lack in knowledge regarding International patient
safety goals.
 Had less knowledge regarding NFPA classification
 The staffs had difficulty to give examples for
LASA medicines.

26.  As evident from the repeated evaluation, the
awareness has improved considerably among
the nursing team. The trainings and
successive evaluation of these trainings is
being continuously emphasized and followed.
