1. Q7 EVALUATION
Looking back at your
preliminary task, what do
you feel you have learnt in
the progression from it to
your full product?
2. INTRO
I believe that from the preliminary task to now, my skills and ability to
create a realistic, professional and high-standard media product has
progressed. When creating my preliminary college magazine, there
was no thought on cover lines, teasers, skyline and other conventions
or forms of a front cover. The college magazine was basic and well-
presented however it wasn’t at all enticing and inviting.
3. PRELIM TASK- FRONT COVER
COMPARISONAs you can see there is an
obvious difference in my
college magazine front cover
and Drillinois front cover.
Image manipulation,
Photoshop effects such as the
smear tool, colour diffusion
tool was used in my real
media product whereas in the
prelim task, the only image
editing technique used was
formatted brightness and
contrast change. The prelim
magazine looks really
unsophisticated and childlike
due to the brightly coloured
shapes used and use of fonts.
The cover stories are simple
4. KEY ADVANCEMENTS
One of the key developments from the prelim task to the magazine
construction is the quality an standard of my photography. As you
can see from the previous slide, my photography for LSC weekly was
taken on my phone (IPhone 4s) and therefore the quality of the
camera was very basic. However, the photography for my actual
music magazine was taken in a state of the art studio with a DSLR
camera which can take high quality shots. Due to this, I picked up
skills on how to get the perfect angle with the right zoom and focus
so that a certain part of the models face is focused for example the
eyes, so that the reader is directly addressed by the model artist.
In addition, the use of colour distribution, font formatting, cover
lines, pull quotes and even the positioning of the barcode and price
are other aspects have learnt and excelled in from not using them at
all in the prelim task to making them look professional and realistic.
5. This is my Dps and is a Q&A
format double page spread.
The image were intentionally
sized different so that the
text can surround them
making the images more
relevant and effective to the
readers. The text alignment
was changed from a single
block to two so that the text
does not look like an
interview, but a conversation
between an aspiring artist
and some one that has a lot
of knowledge on the music
game.
6. WHAT THIS PROJECT HAS TAUGHT
ME?
From this project I have picked up a set of very useful skills that will
help me in the future. My computing skills have excelled during this
project and now I have the ability to set up presentations, videos on
new and unique software's like Powtoon, in fogram and Prezi. I am
able to show statistics, socio-economic information through
infographics and also am able to embed my own original videos into
presentations.
I can now manipulate, crop, format and edit images and also take
photos on a professional high quality DSLR camera and transfer the
photo on to a file, later embedding it onto adobe bridge. This project
has also helped me to manage my time even though I wasn’t very
good at it right at the start. I now have the confidence to transfer
these skills into similar projects in the future!
