Cover comparison
There are many significant differences between my final cut and preliminary task.

The structure of my final product is much more
profession in comparison to my prelim product.
The sell lines frame the main image. I created this
product by sticking to forms and conventions of
professional texts, therefore it is much more
professional overall I comparison to my prelim.
Poor structural experience and research is clear,
the sell lines are messy and do not necessarily
frame the image. There is a lack of variety
throughout the task, colours and fonts are all the
same and very basic. This product shows little
evidence of any skill or experience.

There are many clear differences between my final task and prelim product.
There are a lot of gaps and white spaces on my
prelim contents page. The entire product is
extremely basic and lacks any forms and
conventions. This is very un appealing to an
audience.
The same generic colour scheme transfers from
the cover page onto the contents page which is
stereotypical. There is much more information
and images in comparison to the prelim. There
are some white spaces, however not enough to
make it seem empty.
Research and planning
While creating my prelim product I had very little experience using Photoshop, to improve I viewed
tutorials on videos on YouTube. Creating my Prelim product allowed me to get valuable experience
before creating my final product. Before crating my prelim product I did not do any Research regarding
the type of magazine and the stereotypical codes and conventions. Therefore, the prelim I created does
not relate to the Genre of magazine. This drove me to focus on creating my final product much closer to
a professional media product. Because of this I did a lot of research and chose to create my magazine
while focusing on professional products and mimicking specific aspects. I learnt how to compose a
photograph correctly using the camera and studio lighting. When using the equipment I learnt how to
use the aperture and shutter speed setting on the camera in order to ensure that my photograph was
not over or under exposed. This is clearly evident in my final product in comparison to my prelim
product as the quality is much more professional. After creating my prelim product and researching
many professional products such as ‘NME’ I learnt about the importance of layout. My prelim evidences
that I had little experience, however my main task proves that I researched further and improved my
ability using different software's. it is clear that my main task uses the forms and conventions of
professional texts more, for example, I included skylines to frame the image and make it look more
professional. I chose to do this after researching professional texts and discovering that the majority of
magazines use skylines, particularly those of the ‘rock genre’.
Construction
In my final product I included skylines,
on both the top and bottom. However,
I did not Include this on my prelim
product. I chose to include this after
researching professional products such
as ‘NME’. I also chose to make the sell
line that accompanied the main image
much larger than other sell lines. This
decision was also made after
researching professional magazines.
When creating the sell lines I used a range of
different texts and a variety of sizes and
colours. Whereas when creating my prelim I
used one colour, and the text through the
whole cover was the same font. Also, when it
came to structuring the sell lines, on my final
cut I chose to frame the main image,
mimicking my findings after researching
professional products.
The main image in both products are of the
same model, however they are much
different. On my prelim the image is low
quality and blurry. On my final product the
image is of high quality. The image on my final
cut is much clearer, the model is looking
directly at the camera which is stereotypical of
the specific genre. The shot is ‘mid-shot’
which is also stereotypical of the genre. On my
prelim the picture is not clear, it is blurry. The
model is covered slightly by the masthead,
where as in my final the masthead is placed so
that it does not cover the model. The model
on my final is on the right hand side of the
magazine, this is so that when the magazine is
stacked on a shelf the audience will be able to
see the model first, thus encouraging them to
pick it up and buy it. On the other hand the
model on the prelim product is placed
towards the center, this is not stereotypical.
An audience is more likely to be attracted to
my final product as the image appeals more to
the specific target audience. The model is
dressed in tartan which connotes the genre of
the magazine, also she is in the age range of
the target audience.

  • 4. Cover comparison There are many significant differences between my final cut and preliminary task. yellow, black and white colour scheme, Missing barcode Red, black and white Generic colour Scheme. The structure of my final product is much more profession in comparison to my prelim product. The sell lines frame the main image. I created this product by sticking to forms and conventions of professional texts, therefore it is much more professional overall I comparison to my prelim. Poor structural experience and research is clear, the sell lines are messy and do not necessarily frame the image. There is a lack of variety throughout the task, colours and fonts are all the same and very basic. This product shows little evidence of any skill or experience. Music magazine College magazine
  • 5. Contents comparison There are many clear differences between my final task and prelim product. There are a lot of gaps and white spaces on my prelim contents page. The entire product is extremely basic and lacks any forms and conventions. This is very un appealing to an audience. The same generic colour scheme transfers from the cover page onto the contents page which is stereotypical. There is much more information and images in comparison to the prelim. There are some white spaces, however not enough to make it seem empty.
  • 6. Research and planning While creating my prelim product I had very little experience using Photoshop, to improve I viewed tutorials on videos on YouTube. Creating my Prelim product allowed me to get valuable experience before creating my final product. Before crating my prelim product I did not do any Research regarding the type of magazine and the stereotypical codes and conventions. Therefore, the prelim I created does not relate to the Genre of magazine. This drove me to focus on creating my final product much closer to a professional media product. Because of this I did a lot of research and chose to create my magazine while focusing on professional products and mimicking specific aspects. I learnt how to compose a photograph correctly using the camera and studio lighting. When using the equipment I learnt how to use the aperture and shutter speed setting on the camera in order to ensure that my photograph was not over or under exposed. This is clearly evident in my final product in comparison to my prelim product as the quality is much more professional. After creating my prelim product and researching many professional products such as ‘NME’ I learnt about the importance of layout. My prelim evidences that I had little experience, however my main task proves that I researched further and improved my ability using different software's. it is clear that my main task uses the forms and conventions of professional texts more, for example, I included skylines to frame the image and make it look more professional. I chose to do this after researching professional texts and discovering that the majority of magazines use skylines, particularly those of the ‘rock genre’.
  • 7. Construction In my final product I included skylines, on both the top and bottom. However, I did not Include this on my prelim product. I chose to include this after researching professional products such as ‘NME’. I also chose to make the sell line that accompanied the main image much larger than other sell lines. This decision was also made after researching professional magazines. When creating the sell lines I used a range of different texts and a variety of sizes and colours. Whereas when creating my prelim I used one colour, and the text through the whole cover was the same font. Also, when it came to structuring the sell lines, on my final cut I chose to frame the main image, mimicking my findings after researching professional products. The main image in both products are of the same model, however they are much different. On my prelim the image is low quality and blurry. On my final product the image is of high quality. The image on my final cut is much clearer, the model is looking directly at the camera which is stereotypical of the specific genre. The shot is ‘mid-shot’ which is also stereotypical of the genre. On my prelim the picture is not clear, it is blurry. The model is covered slightly by the masthead, where as in my final the masthead is placed so that it does not cover the model. The model on my final is on the right hand side of the magazine, this is so that when the magazine is stacked on a shelf the audience will be able to see the model first, thus encouraging them to pick it up and buy it. On the other hand the model on the prelim product is placed towards the center, this is not stereotypical. An audience is more likely to be attracted to my final product as the image appeals more to the specific target audience. The model is dressed in tartan which connotes the genre of the magazine, also she is in the age range of the target audience.
