1. How did you use new media
technologies in the
construction, research,
planning and evaluation
stages?

2. RESEARCH…
During my research I used the internet, as this would give me a mass of information
about short film that would be difficult to find anywhere else. It helped me realise
what conventions I would need to include when making my own film.
There was a variety of websites that I used, one being www.youtube.com and this was
so that I could watch different short film and look at the style of their film and how
these could help me in creating my own short film.
I could not use YouTube for research into my print products, therefore I had to do this
separately and Google images was a great way to find film poster for every genre of
film. Again I could look at the conventions that film posters used and most importantly
what documentary posters consisted of.

3. RESEARCH…
To find research for the review that I was going to produced, the best way was for me
to look up some online reviews from a range of magazine and newspapers. I first of all
looked at heat magazine and found out what layout they use and how I could fit this
into my review. However, I also wanted to look at a review aimed at a different
audience, and therefore I went on to a TV channel listing site,
channelhopping.onthebox.com, which would have a mass audience, but also different
people would be reading this when compared to heat magazine. This meant that I
could get a variety of conventions and put them all together to make a review that
everyone would want to read.

4. RESEARCH…
Another new media product that I used as part of my research was DVD. I watched a
few DVD’s in general just to get the basic view of what a film needs to consist of. I did
not however watch any documentary's on DVD as I could do this a lot easier online, on
YouTube.
Throughout my research I had to use the blogging site blogger.com to keep a track of
my research that I had found and could like refer to it when I was in the planning stage
of my media A2 project.

5. PLANNING…
For my planning I did not use as many new media technologies as I had for my
research as I found it easier to write things down when planning and then transfer it
to my blog for later reference.
The technology I did use was a still camera (Olympus) which was used to take images
of my planning that I had done manually on paper. This included a storyboard and
spider diagram, which could have been done using the computer but I find it much
more easier and quicker by not using the computer in any way when doing this.
Also I used my email, hotmail.com to transfer that image of my planning to my laptop
at home as I find it simpler to put Images from the computer to my blog using my own
laptop. What made it easier is that the camera and the Hotmail site were compatible
and therefore made it easier for me to transfer the images across the web and
Hotmail was then compatible to blogger.

6. CONSTRUCTION…
During the construction I used the most new media technologies. First of all I used a
recording camera, which was available from the media department in college, to
record the interviews, and our narrator. This was compatible to IMovie and therefore I
could transfer the clips onto the macs at college and begin to edit. IMovie played a
major role during the construction stage as it let me edit all of my clips and put them
together in the way that I wanted to.
On the macs there was also the programme Photoshop which was compatible with
IMovie, therefore I could edit my pictures in Photoshop and then transfer them to
IMovie without any problems.

7. CONSTRUCTION…
I also used a USB stick to transfer some movie clips from YouTube onto the macs. The
convergence through my phone also meant that I could take images and email them
to my computer to then add to my blog or film. Even though I did this, I did not use
any in my film as the quality was too poor and would have looked out of place when
compared to the Olympus still camera.
Again I used blogger to refer back to my planning which would help me in the making
on my documentary, and again used YouTube but not for watching videos but to but
my video online.
When I had finished I then uploaded my video to YouTube which made me a global
media producer because it was then accessible to anyone who had access to the
internet. The compatibility of all the new media products made it possible for me to
create my video.

8. EVALUATION…
During my Evaluation process I have used a variety of different new media
technologies. First of all I have used Microsoft PowerPoint to present an evaluation
question because by using this I can clearly show information by using headings etc.
I have also used the iMovie during my audience feedback question because this gives
and audio and visual representation of what the audience think about the
documentary and also what kind of audience would watch the film.
Also during our audience feedback I used the social networking site Facebook and
Twitter, along with YouTube because these have a mass of subscribers and therefore
would be accessible for friends, family and anyone else to watch.

9. EVALUATION…
During the evaluation process I wanted to do a directors commentary, therefore I had
to record my voice and then put it into IMovie along with my documentary. I recorded
my voice at home and sent it to my Hotmail. This was all doable due to the
compatibility of the voice record, Hotmail and then IMovie.
Along with all these new media technology I also used wordle as part of my audience
feedback, however I would have not been able to do this on its own because it doesn’t
provide the mass of information that was needed for that particular evaluation
question. I used Google images as part of my evaluation questions to provide this
PowerPoint with the images of the technologies that I have used.
