Question 4: Who would be the audience for
your media product?
The main audience for our media product would be 15-24 year olds. This is designated as
’young adults’. Our audience would be mostly male, because compared to women, they
prefer to watch films of our style and genre. The age group that we determined to be the
audience would have a lot of disposable income, being in full-time education and having
part/full time jobs and not having many commitments outside these areas. According to
research, the main age of cinema goers these days would be in our chosen age group. This
is the reason why we believe this would be the best audience for our film. Alongside this
reason, we gave the film a 15 age certificate. If we would have given the film a 12 age
certificate, it would have been likely that the meaning and storyline of the film would have
been lost in the smaller ages. We took pre-production research in relation to this phase
very seriously as we wanted to get the correct audience for our film. We used surveys and
different research methods to get opinions from our audience about the plot and overall
idea of the film. This was met with some critique, however allowed us to better appeal to
our audience and change some of the ideas we originally had for the film.
