QUESTION 4: WHO WOULD BE THE TARGET
AUDIENCE FOR YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT?
Niall Murray | Moving Up (2015)
AUDIENCE
When creating our film, we looked into themes
and what would appeal to specific age
groups. While researching and looking at
recent statistics on Pearl & Dean, we saw
that our teen genre was attracting people
aged 18-24. We had to make sure the film
suited the target audience and made sure
everything was suitable for them to watch
and enjoy.
REASON FOR THIS AGE GROUP
One of the main reasons we’ve decided to
choose this target audience is that a large
majority of teens take a greater interest. It
would be ideal if we targeted the audience
into a genre they favour.
PLANNING
When planning our film, we looked into themes
and issues that our target audience have
experienced so we could integrate that into
our film. For example, Moving Up, is a film
based around bullying which many teens
face today. This helped us to plan around the
ideas of teen issues and social groups.
PLANNING (CONTINUED)
We felt that our teen genre was suitable for our
target audience as during the research and
planning stages we assembled research for this
specific teen audience which we would match
our film to. Not only we thought about the target
audience nationally, but we thought about our
target audience universally as bullying is a
universal issue. Saying this, the film would not
only attract fans of such genres, but it would
attract people are can relate to the issue.
SATISFACTORY
All in all, I am quite disappointed with the final outcome. This
is due to my group and i failing to meet the standards and
basics of our audience needs. For example, we didn’t get
actors suitable for the target audience and we made the
mistake of having no dialogue. The film wasn’t edited with
a continuous sequence of event and wasn't very clear to
understand. This means it will not interest or appeal to our
target audience.
We did however manage to portray the themes of bullying
but unfortunately, it wasn’t emphasised enough to impact
the age range for the target audience.
