A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

- 3. Publisher • I used publisher when making my billboard and TV magazine front cover. When it came to my front cover, it was easy to upload my desired image, crop it to the right part and layer features on top of it in order to give it a professional look.
- 4. Blogger • I created a blog on Blogger to present my work in a creative and easily accessible way. After the work was posted on Blogger viewers of my blog would be able to leave feedback on which I could act on in order to improve my work.
- 5. Powerpoint • I have used powerpoint when doing the first question of my evaluation. I found it to be an easy piece of software to use to demonstrate continuity.
- 6. Youtube • I used Youtube as an outlet for my trailer, rejected clips and title card, by which I could upload them to the internet and receive feedback.
- 7. Stills camera • Stills cameras were used when practicing how to make a soap trailer just using still images, this would count as research as we had to look into the genre and look onto the codes and conventions.
- 8. HD camera • HD cameras were used to record the actual footage for the trailer which was shot mainly in Manchester.
- 9. DSLR camera • These were used when taking the pictures that were to be used for my front cover. These cameras were specifically used so we could get the finest quality images and replicate a real media product.
- 10. Green screen • A green screen was used to keep the background for the picture flat and allowed for easy manipulation if desired. Although I did not manipulate the background of any images that I used, the use of a green screen just gave me the option if I wanted to do so.
- 11. Slideshare • Slideshare allowed me to change the format of my work so it would be suitable to put on blogger.
- 12. Twitter • Allowed me to send links of my work and receive feedback on which I could act upon in order to improve my work.
