3. Dear Lord and Father of all,
Thank you for today.
Thank you for ways in which you provide us all.
For your protection and love we thank you.
Help us to focus our hearts and minds now
on what we are about to learn.
Inspire us by Your Holy Spirit as we listen and write.
Guide us by your eternal light as we discover more
about the world around us.
We ask all this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
4. The ability of the material to block,
absorb or transmit light to its use.”
After going through this module,
you are expected to:
relate the ability of the material
to block, absorb or transmit
light to its use.

6. Which of the following is a negative effect of heat?
A. Heat is used in cooking.
B. Heat keeps our body normal.
C. Heat is used in building construction.
D. Heat can cause burn, dehydration and heat stroke.
Why is a severe electric shock dangerous?
A. It can cause burns.
B. It can interfere with breathing
C. It can stop the heart from breathing.
D. All of the above

light travels? What

travels from one
medium to another?

11. The light that is visible to the
human eye and responsible for
our sense of sight is called
visible light. Our primary source
of light is the sun.
The straight lines where light
travels is called rays.
12. White light is an example of a
visible light that is composed of
different colors with different
wavelengths.
The separation of white light into
its component colors is called
dispersion.
A transparent object that
separates white light is called
prism.
13. THE TRANSMISSION OF LIGHT
Transmission refers to the passing
of light through some materials. For
example, when light passes through
a glass window, it is transmitted to
the otherside, allowing the light to
pass through the window.
14. Absorption of Light
Absorption refers to a material’s taking in
of light and not reflecting it back. For
example, when light strikes a black surface,
it is absorbed by the surface and nothing is
reflected.
Dark colors absorb a lot more heat than
lighter ones because they absorb more light
energy. In fact, the closer to black a color is,
the more heat it absorbs from light sources.
15. Blocking of Light
What happens when an object is
placed in the path of light?
Light travels in straight lines. It
cannot bend to travel around objects;
if it did we could see around corners!
When light is blocked by an object a
dark area or shadow is formed.
16.
17.
18. Objects that allow light to pass through are said
to transmit light are described as transparent.
Clear plastic and glass windows are examples of
transparent materials.
19. Some other materials can transmit light but allow the light to
scatter and diffuse, making it difficult to distinguish the objects
that are behind them. We called these materials as
translucent. Stained glass and frosted windows are examples
of translucent materials.
20. Materials that do not transmit light at all and they are called
opaque materials. Concrete walls, wooden doors, and mirrors
are examples of opaque materials.
22. What is :
OPAQUE – block light
TRANSLUSCENT – absorb and reflect back
TRANSPARENT –transmit light or
light pass through an object
23. Identify the following objects.
Which of the following object can absorb, block and
transmit light?
wood plastic cover Tinted glass

block transmit
24. Identify the pictures. Write AL if it can absorb
light, BL if it can block light and TL if it can
transmit light.

27. Materials that allow the transmission of light
waves through them are called optically
transparent.
Materials that absorb sunlight well include dark
surfaces. Some materials absorb all these
wavelengths well, while others are better
suited to a certain restricted types of light.
Opaque objects block light from traveling
through them. Most of the light is either
reflected by the object or absorbed and
converted to thermal energy.
28. Read the questions below and write the letter
of the correct answer.
1. Which group of objects composed
of translucent materials?
A. flower, plastic bottle, booth
B. clear water, magnifying lens,
eyeglasses
C. white sock, umbrella, plastic ball
D. tinted window, cellophane, gelatin
29. 2. Most people in tropical countries
use white paint for their homes.
What is the use of color white to
heat absorption?
A. to absorb more heat
B. to decrease the temperature
C. to shade their house
D. to make feel comfortable
30. 3. Transparent materials allow light
to pass through. Which group of
objects composed of transparent
materials?
A. flower, plastic bottle, booth
B. white sock, umbrella, plastic ball
C. clear water, magnifying lens,
eyeglasses

31. 4. Opaque materials do not transmit
light at all. Which group of objects
composed of opaque materials?
A. glass, ceramic, plastic plate
B. metal, wooden table, soap
C. glass center table, tree, book
D.lenses, plastic cover, book
32. 5. Plants use light energy to make their
own food. Why is light absorbed by the
plants useful?
A. It makes the plants green.
B. The exposure of plant to light
makes plants die
C. It makes the environment cool
D. The light is reflected and increases
the temperature
33. 6. Why do people enjoy the
shade of the tree during
summer?
A. It reflects light.

36. 9. Which is the material that does
not allows light to pass through,
instead it just reflects or absorbs
light?
A. transparent

38. Dear God, thank you for the lesson today,
It’s great to found new things about
your world.
It’s fun trying new skills and learning..
Help us remember all we have learnt
today in class..
We look forward to tomorrow and all the
wonderful things we will be taught.
Amen.
