Mattingly "AI & Prompt Design: The Basics of Prompt Design"
Q2
1. Q2. How effective is the combination of your
main product and ancillary texts?
2. Before starting – Initial Motif
•
•
Before deciding as a whole group what motifs we were going to use in order to effectively
market our artist, we took a step back to reflect on our individual research findings.
Having analysed our research on websites, music videos and Digipaks in our chosen genre
which was Pop, a very strong motif that was used was the use of a specific colour or colours
which led us to plan what colours we were going to use for all three of our products.
Pink
Black
White
Here is an example of the constant use of specific colours (Black, Pink and White)
used by Ariana Grande.
3. Colour
•
•
Me and my group chose the following colours:
Black: From both the website and Digipak research it became quite clear that black was a generic convention in
the Pop genre. Therefore by using it, it would allow us to associate our products with the Pop genre.
We mainly used in the colour black in the website and Digipak, we done this in hope to disassociate our artist from the
other type of Pop artist which exist that tend to be retro and use a variety of bright colours in aims of reaching their
TMG, which tend to be teenagers.
As we wanted to reach a wider audience, we referred back to our research to look at what artist reach the teenage and
young adult market, our results were Leona Lewis and Adele, these two are portrayed in there music videos as classy
and sophisticated, because we wanted this for our artist we looked how their websites and Digipaks marketed them
and the layout, the first thing that stood out was the colour black that was used for the back ground for both artists
websites and Digipaks.

Red: It is usually associated with love and warmth, so we thought
it would be a wise idea to use it as love is one of the generic
convections of Pop music.
We also used red in the website and Digipak as it contrasts with
the colour black.
For me and my group, we found that the colour red hadn’t been
used by other pop artists that we researched.
It also allowed us to create something unique.
Red can also be seen as quite erotic and warm, this could enable
us to reach the male side of our target market.
5. •
Grey: Due to the internal and external influences, for example our artists clothing and the mis en scene.
•
Grey was mainly used in the Digipak and our music video.
•
•
•
On our Digipak front and back cover, we have a picture of our artist wearing a grey jacket, which is also in our music
video. We also have her love interest wearing grey so he could be linked to hear easily, as well as this, our music video
some of our scenes are filmed with grey, grim skies in the background.
On the website, grey can be seen in the pictures taken of the artist while filming as well as a picture of the artist on the
homepage, which has a grayscale effect.
Also, the colour grey is used in the header of my website, the title of the page that the viewer is looking at appears
grey.

6. Font
When carrying out my research for fonts of pop artists websites and Digipaks, I noticed that there
was no generic convention for pop artists font styles, therefore it would give us creative control.
After speaking to the Digipak designer, we both decided that we should chose a fonts that
represents our artist in the way we wanted to market her, which was as a mature, conserved,
sophisticated young woman. Because of this, I chose a plain font that was made available to me via
Wix.
After consulting my group , they told me to make two changes which were to make the font size
larger to make it more eye catching for the audience and to make the colour of the font red to
match the Digipak.
