Question Two
How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
‘House style’ / ‘Brand Identity’
When creating my music video and the two ancillary task, I found it was important to keep a theme throughout
all three of them. I created a certain house style by keeping things very similar or the same for example like
fonts, colour and images. This then allows there to be continuity between them which supports the brand
identity. I also found the ‘brand identity’ to be very important, my artist would be a brand because everyone
would be known by her name ‘Helena’. By creating a brand identity it allows things to be perfect before they are
made public as I would be following and protecting my brand identity. This also allows the audience to have a
strong image in there head of what my brand is and will be.
The house style that I have created focusing on the different patterns projected on to a star image throughout
the three of my tasks, to promote having fun and being happy throughout my products.
Above are some screenshots from my some final products. There is two screenshots from my music
video, the front cover of my digipak and my poster. Throughout all of them I have a running theme of
bright and fun colours. This theme will then be associated with the artist, the audience will also know
that all these products have the same theme, so therefore are all made to sell each other. For all of
these images I used a backdrop and a projector with different patterns projected onto my artist face.
Similar Colour Themes
Throughout all three of my products, I used quite a similar colour them. As I thought by using the same colours all in of the
products, could then end in the artist being associated with those certain colours. Just like Ed Sheerans album is blue turquoise and
now everyone remembers his album from that iconic colour. I thought I could do this for my products, but instead of using one
certain colour I decided to use a multiple.
I wanted to give a fun and playful look towards my products, I also wanted to apply
this to the pop genre. I found using bright colours, with one running colour
throughout all three product. I did this by adding the colour pink, this actually
worked really well because I could add other colours quite easily As it is the sort of
colour that wasn’t hard to match with other colours. The other colours were also a
massive part of the three products, as the front and back cover of the digipak and
the poster are full of bright colours.
However, because the colours pink is brought into all of
the products this colours stands out the most, and becomes the
colour that the artist is associated with.
Wording and Font
The wording and font, is so important throughout the 3 products, because without the content on the products. How would the
audience know who the artist is or when the album is coming out? Even in the music video I have decided to use wording and a
certain font, to address the name of the song and album.
I may have used the same font across all three products
however, I used them in different colours or size. In the
music video I kept font white as the backgrounds of the shots
were changed anyway, so it need a balance between colours.
However on the poster and the Digipak, I still used the same
font but the colours were much brighter which goes well with
the product as a whole and doesn’t clash. This does changed
the style of the products however, there still are certain
connections between all the products. The main thing is that
the font is the same font just the colour is changed
throughout the three products, this still allows the audience
to know that these products all still belong with each other.
Similar Images
Throughout all of my three products, the images that I have
taken and used are all quite similar. As for all of them I have
used the same techniques, using a backdrop and projected
patterns on to my artist face. By me adding these similar
images throughout all three of my products, keeps the
constancy between them. For example by having the same
image on the front cover of my digipak and the poster.
Means when an audience see the poster they know that it is
about the album, which then can lead them into knowing
which one to buy. There is also links between the two
ancillary tasks and my music video, I did this because there
needs to be constancy between all of the products. This also
links back to having a ‘house style’ and keeping it up for all
of the tasks.
How will my Digipak design sell the
song/album to the audience?
There are certain parts of the digipak that will sell the song and or the album alone. The name of the song is on
the back cover, it is also right at the top of the list. This makes it clear to the audience that this is the number one
song on the album. Also if they had already heard the song they will know straight away which one it would be.
The artist name is also in a bold and large font across the
front and the back of the Digipak. This makes it obvious
to the audience that this is ‘Helena’s’ album, the general
public will generally know who she is from the music
charts. This can sell the song because they will know that
she has an album and song, out at the moment.
On the inside cover of the Digipak, the audience will also
get a personal little message from the artist her self. This
gives the digipak a personal touch, which may sell the
song even more. Alone with the images of her across the
digipak, the audience would expect to see her in the music
video.
How will the promotional poster sell the
digipak to the audience?
The image on the poster is the exactly the same image as on the digipak, I
have done this so when an audience see the poster, they will know exactly
what the digipak (album) will look like . So therefore would sell. There’s
complete consistency between the Digipak and the poster. There are
features on the poster which gives the audience hints to what might be on
the digipak, when it will be out and where to find it. But also reviews from
large companies (NME , Rolling Stone) which there famous for there
reviews.
In a large font at the top of page the artist name is written at the top of the
page, so they will know exactly who the poster is about. I didn’t exactly copy
the digipak front cover, I didn’t have the same title. So I only added sections
of the digipak so that it is still recognisable.
In the top right hand corner there is some information which is important
for the poster, so that the audience would be able to find the music video
and where they can buy the album. Also by using different fonts can catch
the eye of the audience as there different across the poster.
How does the digipak show the genre of the
music video
There are certain elements in each of the two ancillary tasks
that shows the genre of the music video. For my three products
my genre is pop, I do think that all of my products show that
this is the genre I was working with. As there are certain things
that pop music videos, digipak’s and posters would have. My
poster and digipak, both have similar colours which links to
each other. There are certain things on the digipak that relate
to the pop genre. The bright and cheerful colours relates to the
pop genre. On the inside of my digipak there is a small message
from my artist, this can relate to my music video’s genre pop
because they are getting something personal from the artist
herself, and a signature. My target audience would typically be
for young girls, however it doesn’t matter who would want to
have it.
How does the poster show the genre of the
music video
The colour pink is usually
associated with the genre
pop. As I known as quite
girly and playful. With a
young target audience.
However the pink contrasts
with the bright colours,
which allows the poster to
stand out.
Social media is so popular
now, as everyone is using
it. So by having the artist
website and where they
can find the video. Is really
a main thing for a poster
because her fans can follow
her.
Having an image of the
artist on the front of the
poster, is really
important for the artist
brand and important for
the audience.
Reviews from famous
music magazine websites,
is quite important to the
audience. As this can
prove that they are
generally good.
