This is when they see the confusion, and emotional turmoil of the people on the ground. They see
people jumping from the building to escape certain death from the fire, smoke and dust that billowed
from high above. Still not knowing the details, McLoughlin (Cage) asks for volunteers to enter the
building with him. 2
Briefly hesitant, he got his volunteers; they set out to get supplies. As they were going in, wounded
were walking out, there was an eerie silence among them. When they got supplies, they went in to
look for survivors, the building collapsed. McLoughlin (Cage) was able to save 1 man, 2 were killed
while he and Jimeno (Pena) were trapped under concrete slabs. The 1 man (Dom) that survived would
not leave his friend, Jimeno (Pena). While trying to rescue him there was a rumble and Dom was
impaled on a steel rod. The movie was shot now mostly of these 2 men trying to encourage each other
while fighting off dehydration and going to sleep. McLoughlin (Cage) told Jimeno (Pena) not to go to
sleep because he may not wake up. In and out of consciousness both men

The Big Five Characteristics Of Personality
What is a Personality? A personality is defined as a... stable set of psychological characteristics that
are relatively unchanging over time, that differentiate people from one another in a range of ways and
that cannot be explained by social or biological pressures.. (Morley et al , 2004) A personality is a
combination of qualities and characteristics which together develop an individuals unique character.
The Big Five factors of personality is a quick and precise way of describing yourself and others. The
Big Five factors can be seen in every individual s personality, each individual is different and the these
factors which also known as traits vary from each individual to the next. The Big Five Model has been

The Impact Of Charles Lindbergh Flight
There are many important accomlisments that have happened over the last 100 years such as Neil
Armstrong landing on the Moon, Jonas Salk creating the Polio Vaccine etc. I believe one of the more
overlooked accomplishments the last 100 years is Charles Lindbergh flying the first nonstop flight
from New York to Paris in 1927. Lindbergh was in the air for about 33 hours. This tells you how
transportation had evolved from the last 20 years prior with Wilbur and Orville Wright flying the first
plane in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. John Ward wrote a great piece on the impact of Charles
Lindbergh Flight in 1927. I believe this reading was showing the aviating industry in a positive light.
John Ward had this to say on page 6 7 Lindbergh gave

Comparing The Tibetan Mandala And The Navajo Sand Paintings
In comparing The Tibetan Mandala and the Navajo Sand painting the sand drawings are from different
cultures, yet their purpose is the same. A better understanding and appreciation comes with looking at
these works.
The Tibetans and the Navajo Native Americans are from different cultures. The Tibetan s have lived
intertwined with China for centuries. They tried to free themselves from China rules yet they failed.
The 14th Dalai Lama fled China and found exile in India. China to this day has total control over
Tibetan people. Using all the tools of repression to deter and punish Tibetan resistance as stated on
Free Tibet. The people of Tibet are dedicated to the Dalai Lama. The monks and nuns play a vital part
in the community, furthermore they are viewed as teachers and mentors. The Chinese did not want the
Dalai Lama to have the followers that he had. If a person how any paraphernalia of the Dalai Lama
could lead to their incarceration and or torture. The Chinese monitors and controls the religious
aspects in Tibet. Consequently, the Chinese government found the devotion of the Tibetans to the
Dalai Lama as a danger to their political goals. By way of contrast with the conflict with the Chinese
government, the monks live a simple life. The Tibetan monks believes in the liberation of all being,
personal enlightenment, compassion and nature around us.
Next, there is the Navajo Native Americans that also had issues with the American government. They

Social Theories Of Mass Shootings
Mass shootings happen a lot more frequently in the world than most of us probably know. However,
every mass shooting that has been documented and investigated have the same main question behind
it; Why did the attacker choose to do this? Many times, our assumptions are all we have. Investigation
analyses the entire situation as much as it can to make sure our assumptions, if needed, are as accurate
as possible. However, there are a lot of theories and social situations that pertain to mass shootings as
well. On July 20th, 2012, one of the deadliest mass shooting had occurred in Aurora, Colorado. A man
by the name of James Holmes had been the attacker behind this mass shooting. Just a couple weeks
prior to the shooting, Holmes bought a ticket online for a midnight showing of The Dark Night Rises
at the local movie theater in Aurora. The night he attended the showing, left shortly after through one
of the rear doors. He proceeded to leave the door open and headed towards the parking lot. Soon later,
he returned. Not even 20 minutes after the movie had begun, Holmes began shooting vigorously at the
audience. Holmes is dressed head to toe in protective gear a ballistic helmet, protective gear for his
legs, throat and groin, black gloves and a gas mask. (Library, 2017) First, Holmes threw two tear gas
canisters into the theater, and after they exploded, that s when we began to start shooting. By the end
of that tragic night, there were several injured and some even dead. Ten

The United States Constitution And The Rights Of The...
The United States Constitution is a document that embodies the fundamental laws and principles by
which the United States is governed, sets limits on what the government can and cannot do, as well as
defines the natural rights, liberties, and freedoms of American citizens. It is arguably, the most
important document ever crafted in American history and the one document that affects every single
citizen within the United States every single day. It is thanks to this document that the United States
citizens can enjoy the freedoms that they hold today, which are outlined in the bill of rights, as well as
ensuring the citizens a fair form of government through a system of checks and balances, which
guarantees that the government cannot bare qualities of tyranny, corruption, and ineptitude. For
example, natural rights such as the freedom of speech, which is the first amendment in the bill of
rights of the constitution, ensures that the citizens of a government have a voice in government policy
and procedures by allowing them to participate in political discussion, to voice their opinions through
debate, and to express their content or discontent with a government official or policy, as well as
laying the foundation for all other freedoms and rights. The Constitution also prevents the government
from becoming too powerful or tyrannical through the separation of powers, as well as places
limitations on the powers of the government through provisions such as the Establishment

Why Saddam Hussein Ruled Iraq
Saddam Hussein ruled Iraq for almost a third of the country s existence as an independent nation.
Since its beginning, Iraq was divided by ethnicity and tribal structures representing alternative socio
political communities in competition with central state government. In fact, Iraq has always been a
weak state defined as having just enough power and coercive force for the central government to
remain in control and its viability over time depended on its ability to govern and enforce laws. The
durability of tribal structures, particularly those in the sparsely populated Sunni portions of the
country, made it difficult for the Iraqi government to absorb and integrate them (Crone, 1993). These
problems were exacerbated by the faction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This process reflected the historic ebb and flow of tribal power, as well as the political durability of
tribal structures able to broker allegiance for privileged influence. Powerful Sunni tribes and tribal
confederations like the Jubur, Dulaym, Tayy, Khazraj, al Azza, Harb, Maghamis, Mushahadah,
Luhayb, and Ubayd became accustomed to receiving significant money and autonomy, as well as
privileged positions within government (Otterman, 2003). Giving them these benefits in exchange for
their allegiance benefited Hussein, however it also established these tribes as power brokers within the
context of post invasion Iraq, something bound to hinder the development of Iraqi democracy and
nationalism. If Sunni tribes, representing a third of the Iraqi population, could choose which
government to support or require exclusive privileges from their continued acquiescence, the prospect
of forming an effective Iraqi democracy seemed to require strengthening the central government by
weakening the tribes. However, the ongoing Iraqi insurgency, largely fueled by the same Sunni tribes,
drove the United States into adopting policies the reinforced tribal power. The became particularly
evident in the 2007 2008 period when the United States

Group Behaviors And Communication Ways Found Between...
In this real world paper, I researched a case study of Swedish company and its subsidiary in China. In
this case study, there are different management styles, employee behaviors and communication ways
found between Swedish and Chinese. Both Sweden and China are trying to manage different ways of
thinking and behavior while they are communicating with each other. Therefore, both side of the
company are having a hard time with cross cultural challenges.
The Sweden culture tends to be a country in the lower power distance while China is a high power
distance country. There is an example of high power distance orientation of China. Swedish company
made a high standard for a product and asked the production manager in China can they achieve ...

It is another example show the conflict base on individualism vs. collectivism between Swedish and
China. The technical product manager from Swedish company was asking a model for a new product;
however, he got a message written there was a 1mm error of the product they made and asked what
they should do? The manager from Swedish does not understand why the Chinese employee ask him
what should they do instead of adjust the error by themselves. Base on the individual of Swedish, they
would usually manager themselves to make own decision on most of the issues. On the other hand,
Chinese are more collective and most of the decisions would make through discussion with others.
Even though the Chinese managers know that they would need to adjust a new model at the end, they
still decide to notify there is a problem and wait for Swedish manager instruction.
The differences between Chinese and Swedish cultures continue to affect multinational business
development if they do not resolve it. Cross cultural conflicts usually caused by cultural differences of
the company s strategic decisions; in addition, it will disrupt the operation of the enterprise program
and reduce efficiency. Because of the conflicts the various relationships between employees will be
influencing and operating costs will increase. It will greatly reduce the operational efficiency of the
business management organization. Therefore, Swedish managers must understand the

What Is St Mary s County Essay
St Mary s county is considered to be part of the Western Shore and extends from Charlotte Hall to its
most Southern tip at Point Lookout. The peninsula is bordered by the Potomac Rivers, the Patuxent
River on the northeast and the Chesapeake Bay to the east making it an ideal spot for abundant water
activities such as fishing, jet skiing, water skiing, kayaking, and paddle boarding. The concern is that
the access to these waterways is limited, especially in Leonardtown. Local water enthusiasts desiring
to launch their crafts have to do so in remote locations throughout St Mary s County. These include
Abell s Wharf, Chaptico Wharf, Great Mills kayak and canoe launch, Greenwell State Park, Piney
Point Landing, and lots of others throughout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Including the roadway will make it more efficient for boaters to get their boat in the water and so that
kayakers and paddle boarders don t have to lug their heavy and awkward shaped craft a couple
hundred feet anymore. To use the launch and slips, a permit is needed which will be granted from the
town. This fixture will be a convenience and will be a much nicer upgrade to the kayak launch at the
wharf now. Currently there is a 6 x 6 soft launch that serves as an access point to the water. It is very
unstable and remains submerged during high tide. According to Gabrielle Giovenco, a local
kayaker/paddle boarder, the launch is positioned to far distance from the parking lot and is unstable
which makes it difficult to safely launch you re vessel. The dock is also black which makes it very
difficult to stand on in the summer when the sun is at its peak. The constant burn on my feet is terrible.
(Giovenco, Gabrielle) Following a six month analysis of different style docks/launches, I have
determined that a floating dock with boat slips, a fishing area, and a launch for kayaks and canoes
would be the better fit for the Wharf than a hard dock. It will not only address current concerns, but it
will also allow for future expansion at the Wharf site. When entering from Washington Street the new
dock will remain in its current location resulting in less of an inconvenience for everyone.

Case Study Of Chief Davis Executive Style
After carefully reading the case studies, I concluded that Chief Davis executive style is in line with
The Statesman and Chief Fortier s executive style is in line with The Administrator. The Statesman
style stresses leadership and Chief Davis had a strong subordinate leadership in which he allowed their
thoughts and ideas to be put into place (Cordner, 2016). The Statesman focuses on the department s
interests by being in constant contact with the community as well as the government and gives them
tasks in order to provide leadership within the community. Chief Davis focused on building support
from outside of the agency by becoming transparent with the community and by allowing them to see
what decisions were being made. Chief Davis had strong ties to the local businesses and as a result,
they heavily supported the Lowell Police Department. A strong indicator that the LPD had the backing
of their community was that a fundraiser led by a local businessman to raise some $200,000 to buy the
department s mobile precinct (Cordner, 2016, p. 488). Chief Davis also had the strong support from
Senator Paul Tsongas, who was a resident of Lowell and worked well with the city government. By
being involved in the local government as well as the university and businesses in Lowell, Chief Davis
was extremely successful in getting community and monetary support for his department (Cordner,
2016). Chief Davis was also successful in convincing the residents in the community to build a new
precinct in the crime riddled Cambodian neighborhood. This was largely done because he had the trust
and support of the community as well as seeking the help and advice from outside of the department
in Linda Hart. Chief Davis even was able to win over one of his non supporters by hiring Cambodian
and Latino officers to help close the communication gap between the police department and the
minority communities. The Statesman can often have a negative impact on a department because the
department members feel that he or she loses touch of who they are representing, but Chief Davis
never lost the trust of his personnel and built a supporting coalition inside as well as outside of the
department. The Administrator style of leadership

The research on graphene scaffold for wound dressing and cell culture is a relatively new direction

Palm Oil Is The World s Most Common Oil
Palm oil is the world s most common oil that can be found in many household items ranging from bars
of soap to dietary foods. Most consumers are unaware that palm oil is present in most food substances
because it is not required to be labeled as such. It is simply branded as vegetable oil. The global
demand for this commodity has increased over the years creating expansions of plantations in
Indonesia leading to biodiversity loss, forest fires, peat degradation, hardship on families and a range
of social issues. Since the early 1980 s palm oil has more than tripled globally primarily in Indonesia.
Most of this expansion has occurred in Indonesia, where the total land area of oil palm plantations
increased by over 2100 per cent (more than 22 times greater) over the same period, growing to 4.6
million hectares . The primary source of supply and production of palm oil is through state owned, big
private corporations, and smallholder farmers. State owned plantations play a modest role in the
Indonesian palm oil industry as big private enterprises (such as the Wilmar Group and Sinar Mas)
produce approximately half of total Indonesian production. Smallholder farmers account for around 35
percent of cultivated land . Today there are nearly ten million hectares of land in Indonesia solely
dedicated to the plantation of this commodity. Individual smallholder farmers own between two and
ten hectares of land for their palm oil farmland. Plantations are located in rural areas

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE PULMONARY DISEASE Have you ever known a person who smokes
and has a hard time doing every day activities, due to difficulty of breath, or constantly coughing. He
or she may have Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, or COPD. COPD is a progressive and
treatable lung disease that causes shortness of breath due to obstruction of air way (COPD, 2013).
Progressive means that is gradually gets worse over time. It is a combination of chronic bronchitis and
emphysema (Causes,2014). Chronic bronchitis is inflammation of the bronchioles, which causes
mucus build up (Davis,2016). Emphysema is when the air sacs get enlarged (Smoking, 2016). Since
the disease does not have a cure yet it is important to know pathology (path of disease), epidemiology
(who is effected in a population), ethology (who is effected genetically), manifestation (symptoms),
treatment, and outcome.
First step preventing COPD is to know how it affects the body and the path taken; this is called the
pathology. In normal, healthy breathing a person breathes in air that is moves through the bronchial
tubes to the bronchioles. At the end of the bronchioles there are air sacs called alveoli. The alveoli are
elastic air sacs that control the gas exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide to the body (Smoking,
2016). The alveoli consist of elastic tissue so when a person breaths in the the alveoli can expand and
when the carbon dioxide is released it can deflate and return to it s normal size.

Literary Devices In Stop All The Clocks Cut Off The Telephone
In Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone by W.H. Auden the author uses different literary devices to
portray the theme of overwhelming grief and loss. In the poem, the speaker is someone who has
recently lost a loved one. The person is so distraught that they start issuing harsh demands. The
speaker wants everything to stop and all noise to seize. He or she then starts revealing more personal
details by telling how much the loved one meant to them. This poem is dramatic and successfully uses
literary devices to show how the speaker is feeling in their time of grief. W.H. Auden uses metaphors,
personification, and overstatements to reveal the effects of overwhelming grief.
First, W.H. Auden uses metaphors throughout the poem in order to reveal how the speaker feels for the
loved one they lost. A metaphor is a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object
or action to which it is not literally applicable. The first metaphor W.H. Auden uses is He was my
North, my South, my East and West (9). This metaphor conveys that the person who has died means a
lot to the speaker. The directions refer to the direction the speaker s life is going. This implies that the
speaker has lost all direction now that they have lost this loved one. The next metaphor the author uses
is My working week and my Sunday rest (10). The author uses these words to show that the
relationship between the speaker and the person who died had an intimate relationship. The final

Anger In The Manciple s Tale By Geoffrey Chaucer
History has a way of repeating itself. Mistakes made by earlier civilizations are re made in modern
day. It is true that people learn from their mistakes, but it is what they are ignorant of that gets
repeated. If people knew something was morally wrong, they would avoid doing it. If they were raised
to believe it was right, they would still do it, thinking they are doing right. Not only bad things have a
reincarnation in the future, but good things as well. Even a manner of which a society of the past acts
can be mirrored in the modern world. Authors have studied these occurrences and applied them in
their works. One such author is Geoffrey Chaucer who, in his work, The Canterbury Tales, has

The first of the two characters in the tale is Constance, the religious one. It is said that she is the mirror
of all courtesy,/Her heart a chamber of true holiness,/ Her hand a ministration of largess (Chaucer, The
Man of Law s Tale , line 166 168). She is the model of a virtuous being. She has absolute trust in God,
and she teaches other to do the same. She practices being loyal to the law as well as her faith. She is
exemplified as a materially poor person but spiritually rich. She can resist temptation because she
looks forward to a better life in Heaven. Through hard times and good times, she remains always
faithful to God, and God always protects her. She can most accurately be related to a modern day
monk. They have no money, for they have taken a vow of poverty, but they remain spiritually rich.
Being spiritually rich means they leave behind family, possessions, and worldly position, and even the
outer marks of personal identity, symbolized by hair, beard, and wardrobe (Bhikkhu Bodhi). They
trust in God, and are strong followers of their faith, like Constance. Since The monastic lifestyle
places the monk in dependence on the generosity and kindness of others , when there is no one around
to provide the monk with generosity, their only option is to trust in God. They still follow the official
laws, but

Stigile continues to tell me about the tide pools and how they are one of the fun and more interesting
things available on the Oregon Coast. The tide pools are located in several areas along the coast. The
pools range in price, the cost for the tide pools are due to the fact that some of them are maintained by
the state and require a fee similar to that of a state park. However not all of the pools require payment,
there are also some free of charge. The tide pools form when the tide and water are in, the sea life

Case Study For Abercrombie And Fitch
1.3 7 S model for Abercrombie and Fitch.
This model was developed by Tom Peters, Robert Waterman and Julien Philips with a help from
Richard Pascale and Anthony G. Athos in 80s and even now haven t lost its relevance as management
planning tool. Model presents 7 key elements of the company such as: Structure, Strategy, Skills,
Staff, Style, Systems, and Shared Values. The main point of the model is that all the seven areas are
interconnected and a change in one area requires change in the rest of a firm for it to function
effectively.
As we may see above all elements are connected in the particular way: Strategy, Systems and
Structure together are called Hard Ss the rest Soft Ss .
The model can be applied to many situations but, mostly such framework is used in order to:
To facilitate organizational change.
To help implement new strategy.
To identify how each area may change in a future.
To facilitate the merger of organizations.
We used this approach in order to determine previous position of the company and evaluate that kind
of changes have already been implemented by new board of directors. ... Show more content on

getting their innocence ripped from them. At what point in that situation, did you think that those kids
deserved it, that they were the cause of the problem? That is exactly what is currently happening to
child soldiers. Those who think that they are the villains are not only drastically uneducated on the
situation, but are also ignorant to the facts. This is most likely due to the fact that they are not in an
area where this is occurring, which means they couldn t possibly fathom what the kids are

involuntarily performing actual acts of violence they are the ones who are blamed. To further prove
this point, Armed and Underage explains the situation of child soldiers in Africa and how the U.S. is
involved, Because the U.S. is helping to pay Somali soldiers, it is possible that the money for some
child soldiers may have come from American taxpayers. In other words, if the U.S. is knowingly
paying child soldiers to do their bidding, then why is there such controversy over whether or not they
should be given

There is plenty of open space where one can have a picnic, so essentially your trip can be extremely
budget friendly. Another inexpensive attraction in downtown Chicago is their iconic Navy Pier. Navy
Pier is known as a tourist hotspot. It includes multiple retail shops, a ferris wheel, an IMAX movie
theatre, a crystal garden, a mirror maze, the children s museum, a number of restaurants, and is the
loading dock to luxurious cruise lines. Split the cab fare with friends to reach the pier and spend the
afternoon sightseeing. There are no fees to enter the pier or crystal garden but there are admission fees
for extra amusements for a reasonable price. After one the evening sightseeing they can either hop on
a dinner cruise or dine at one of the restaurants. After dinner on specific days one can enjoy Navy Pier
s firework show. On Wednesday and Saturday nights during the summer, Navy Pier hosts its very own
firework show free to the public. One can essentially spend the entire day enjoying all what Navy Pier
offers. Other inexpensive attractions in Chicago are the different museums and exhibits scattered
around the downtown area. On certain days throughout the year Chicago hosts free or discounted days
for students, military personnel and their families, as well as Illinois residents. These free and
discounted days are hosted at the Shedd Aquarium, the Field Museum, The Adler Planetarium, and the
Willis Tower. The Shedd Aquarium has around six different

Native American Role In Ww2 Case Study
Throughout the history of the United States, the Native American community as a whole has always
been nothing but a resource to use according the needs of the U.S. government. In fact, this
governmental point of view starts with Jefferson s executive order to stop the extermination, in order
to have cheap manpower to work the crops , to present day Trump s constant conflict with Native
American nations, in pursuance of creating a political tool to demonstrate power . However, the
Native American s role in World War II is one of the most overlooked events in U.S. history. Actually,
this case illustrates the government s use of the Native American community as a material resource in
a detailed and contrasting manner. The U.S campaign to dominate the Asian Pacific coast, during
World War II would have taken an entirely different course if it had not been for the participation of
the Navajo Code talkers. The Navajo facilitated the radio transmissions between the U.S commands in
battle. One example of their vital importance, was the Saipan incident where Navajo radio
transmission was necessary to stop the mistaken bombardment of U.S marines over their own
commands. A further example, was their participation in the battle of Iwo Jima holds the record of 48
hours around the clock of Navajo radio decryption without error. Particularly, this participation
supported the establishment of the bombing route that later on ended the war. Nowadays, U.S history

government used, and keeps using, the Native American community as a material and political
resource. Despite the positive aspects of the relationship between the Native nations and the U.S
government, the omission of their contributions throughout history is still a matter of controversy.
Fortunately, the Native American Community persists and will continue to persist above the ageless
ignorance and abuse of U.S. government, as well as its biased

Analysis Of The Poem The Woman Warrior By Maxine Hong...
The Unescapable Net:
Tradition vs Transformation in Kingston s Ideology The Woman Warrior, written by Chinese
American author Maxine Hong Kingston in 1976, blends traditional Chinese folktales and memoir,
and portrays the early 20th century Chinese history in a Chinese American perspective. For Maxine, it
seems Chinese history means social and cultural constrains from conventional Chinese doctrines,
especially regarding the social status of womanhood, the blind collectivism, and superstition in old
China. Maxine s negative depiction of Chinese history partially reflects the bureaucracy of patriarchal
and feudal system in old China, but more importantly, reveals Maxine herself, a third culture kid, as a
paradox: she is eager to incorporate into the American mainstream society by resisting her Chinese
cultural background, but at the same time, her unconscious actions imply that her Chinese background
is a historical baggage that she could never discard of. By retelling experiences and legends from her
mother and even her grandmother s generation, Maxine suggests how she as a Chinese American
woman is in a awkward state between tradition and transformation, and presents a cultural clash
between America and China. Maxine s portray of women s role under the male dominated society and
feudal system suggests the first paradox in her ideology protesting male dominance, but at the same
time admitting it. Women, in ancient China, are usually treated as lower social status and

Comparing Dostoyevsky s Crime And Punishment
Environment s Impact in Dostoyevsky s Crime and Punishment
Everything depends on circumstance and a man s environment. Environment is everything: the man
himself is nothing (Dostoevsky 359). Set in the tragic poverty stricken milieu of nineteenth century St.
Petersburg, Dostoyevsky s Crime and Punishment follows the psychological suffering of Rodion
Raskolnikov, or Rodya, after he murders two women and steals their money. At the outset of this
journey, Raskolnikov, overhears locals complaining about a bitter old woman who owns a pawn shop.
Viewing himself as an equalizer, Rodya uses the locals animosity to justify to himself the murder of
the austere pawn shop owner and her sister. Shifting between guilt, pride, and indifference, his already
distraught mental state is exacerbated by the opinions of those who surround him. Sonia, his lover, ...

A recurring theme throughout Crime and Punishment is the psychological impact of committing a
crime. Raskolnikov is mentally torn between his guilt and his desire to remain free. Tormented by his
conscience, Rodya repeatedly tries to turn himself in and nearly confesses his crime. When conversing
with Zamiotov, an investigator, Rodya points all the evidence in his direction, describing the way [he]
would ve gone about it (159). Here, being one of his many near confessions, Dostoyevsky conveys
Raskolnikov s anguish as being greater than the actual punishment. He lived under the constant torture
that his psychological misery would momentarily let it out (159). This constant anxiety plagues
Raskolnikov from the moment he commits his crime until his confession, illustrating that the agony he
subconsciously suffers is far more painful than

Havisham by Carol Ann Duffy Essay
In Havisham, Carol Ann Duffy creates an interesting character. Write about the way the character is
created, and compare this with the way other characters are created in three other poems. You should
compare it with one poem by Simon Armitage and two poems from the pre 1912 poetry bank.
In Havisham, Carol Ann Duffy explores the character of Mrs Havisham and develops her by using
vivid imagery and metaphors. She starts the poem with Beloved sweetheart bastard which is an
oxymoron, used to display her mixed emotions about love and the man who jilted her. The plosive
sounds of b and d reinforce her angry tone and helps show how she mocks romance. She is displayed
as a bitter, hateful character who seeks revenge, shown with not a ... Show more content on

Havisham and The Laboratory link not only because of their sinister characters but because both
poems have a strong use of colours. In Havisham colours are used to create a contrast between a white
veil which is the colour of virginity and purity, and a red balloon which can be the colour of love and
sex but also for anger, hatred and embarrassment. Duffy uses this as a way to explore all the feelings
and emotions of the character and could be interpreted as Duffy trying to make the audience have
sympathy for Mrs Havisham. The Laboratory uses colours to create a superficial character who doesn
t see the poison as dangerous or deadly, but as some sort of treasure. She refers to gold oozings and
the exquisite blue as if to think of them as magical potions and not poisons. This is done to create an
almost naivety to her character and suggests that she doesn t understand how dangerous her actions
are. The Laboratory is set out in rhyming couplets to create a playful rhythm to show the character s
childish behaviour, and how she may not be fully aware of her dangerous her actions are. As the poem
starts, the speaker mentions only one woman who she wishes to poison. Yet as the poem continues,
she mentions other women who

The Production of Ammonia and Its Building Blocks
Also known as azane, ammonia is a chemical compound with one nitrogen and three hydrogen atoms
that are tightly bonded together; giving it the formula NH3. At room temperature, ammonia exists in a
gaseous state with a colourless form and a pungent smell. It boils at 33.34°C and ammonia used for
household uses is usually a mixture of ammonia and water. Ammonia provides the right conditions
and nutrition that are needed for the growth of terrestrial organisms. Even in commercial products
such as pharmaceuticals, ammonia is directly or indirectly a building block. Ammonia that is used for
commercial applications is called anhydrous ammonia. Since it has a very low boiling point, the
chemical should be kept at very low temperatures and pressure to sustain its liquid form for
commercial use. Some products that contain this alkaline substance can be cleaning products or
fertilizers, as ammonia is known to provide the right conditions for plants to grow. Although the
chemical has several commercial uses, it is very hazardous, even in low concentrations and therefore it
is important to handle the chemical properly. Inhaling or getting the solution on skin can have several
effects such as burning, fainting and even death. Even low concentrations can cause damage to the
human body when over exposed. Production
The natural occurrence of ammonia happens when plants, animals or organic matter decompose,
releasing ammonia into the air. Not only that, but ammonia salts can also be

The Pros And Cons Of Football Hooliganism
Football hooliganism is a description of a football related violent behaviours and actions from
aggressive and fanatic football supporters. It is a very widely spread and transitional phenomena in
many parts of Europe, Latin America, and recently in north Africa. Hundreds of incidents have
happened, many people have died, thousands of fans have injured, several stadiums were ruined, and
many squares were turned into battlefields just because of football hooligans who exploit the game of
football to achieve personal or common interests and to declare themselves as powerful force.
Hooliganism issues have become an integral part of the game of football. Hence, they raise many
controversial viewpoints about their causative factors, interpretations, threats, consequences, and the
kind of people who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a very deleterious phenomenon that affects the reputation of the entire sports, especially the
football sector as well as it negatively affects the society. As Rogers (2016) proclaims, Hooliganism is
soccer s greatest scourge, one that appeared to have been largely cosigned to the past but still ready to
appear, like a snake, when the conditions are right (para.12). Hooliganism causes disastrous incidents,
human losses, injuries, growing fanaticism and hatred, and destruction of properties of the nation. In
fact, most of these aspects can even affect the people in the society who are not interested in or part of
the football game. Hooliganism behaviors involve rioting, clashing vandalism, swearing, intimidation,
mocking, offensive chanting, spitting, fighting, throwing objects, and using weaponries in fighting.
Furthermore, football hooligans are known for using flares, fireworks, and smoke bombs before,
during, and after matches as part of their usual action. These behaviors cause and have caused many
distractions and threats to the football game, especially in the European

People Must Be Their Own Individual Person
In today s society, people believe that they need to conform to other s ideas and ways. Conforming to
others takes away from being an individual. People need to be themselves and not like someone else
just because society says so. Fitting in with people is not always what it seems to be. Just because
everyone is doing it does not mean it is right. People should be who they want to be, not who they
think they need to be. Everyone should be their own individual person. Society today is full of people
who want to fit in with the so called popular people. Everyone thinks that the group is popular, so they
must have great ideas and thoughts. They might have some great ideas, but they might not be
everyone s ideas. People should not have to change who they are or what they think just to fit in with
people. Just because the popular group seems to be the group to be in, does not mean that is all that is
out there. If everyone stays an individual, there is bound to be people who have similar ideas. Do not
conform to what others say or do just to fit in. Everyone s thoughts matter even if there is some doubt
they do not. Following society puts people in the so called perfect box. The more people think like
others than themselves, the more they become immune to being an individual. Society has a hold on
people that may not be noticed. Everyone has an idea of the perfect person, which comes from society.
There are some instances where everyone has conformed to this one idea because

Cognitive Disability Report
The term Cognitive Disability is rather a broad term. Before 2010 the term mental retardation was
used instead of cognitive disability. The stigma that comes with the term mental retardation caused it
to be changed. When Rosa s Law was passed in 2010 the term changed. IDEA changed the
terminology but the definition remained the same. (Partners Resource Networks,2011) In article 7 it
states that Cognitive disability manifest during the developmental period and is characterized by
significant limitations in cognitive functions. This disability shows up before the age of eighteen.
Clinical diagnosis of Cognitive Disability can include Down Syndrome, Brain Injury s, Autism, and

There are many reasons why someone would have a cognitive disability. The disability usually shows
up before the age of eighteen, and the sooner it is diagnosed the better the outcome will be. These
factors are associated with cognitive disabilities learning, reasoning, and problem solving. There are
different kinds of cognitive disabilities such as mild to severe cognitive disability. A child IQ and
adaptive behavior is what essentially diagnoses the child with cognitive disability. Cognitive disability
is a common disability in the Unites States. Most people can remain independent living their lives
unless they are diagnosed with a severe form. If the child can t perform normal activities of daily
living, then they will need assistance with living alone.
There are different ways to help a child with cognitive disability in a classroom. Individualized plans
that are tailored to that student with cognitive disability are beneficial to the student learning
capabilities. Making the curriculum specific and clear can help the child comprehend the material
better. Positive feedback is also important along with inclusion in the

It Is Widely Known That Slavery Is A Brutal, Cruel, And
It is widely known that slavery is a brutal, cruel, and inhumane regime that had been wide spread
around the whole world. However, it has not inflamed a whole scale political and social crisis more
seriously anywhere than in the United States during the nineteenth century. People who were forced,
kidnapped or passively born to be slaves were not only required to perform endless labor, but also
tortured, suppressed and bestially destroyed in numerous heartless ways physically and mentally.
However, a few decades before the outbreak of the civil war, it was barely possible for the people in
the north to know about the details of how the slaves lived in the south due to several factors such as
the limit of communications. Fortunately, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, they were continuously threaten by physical torture, which might be imposed upon them
for no reason but their masters bad mood that day. They were always whipped for hours, often beaten
with hoes and sticks, and sometimes killed as animals by their cruel masters with no pity and
compassion at all, which was also not illegal. There is one very scary but reflective example presented
by Douglass in his narrative that a woman slave was killed brutally by her mistress because she just
had a rest while the baby whom she took care of was crying. Behind this, she was actually kept
working every night and rarely had a nap. A trivial mistake shockingly cost her life to pay for the baby
s cry. According to many more details by Douglass, those slaves lived in a life in which they not only
needed to keep worrying about what to eat and when to take a break, but also needed to never stop
thinking about how they should behave like an infallible machine in order to escape from their masters
s bloody cowskins. In a word, slaves were deprived of the right to work hard to earn a living, and
became the livestocks which were forced by human to do whatever they needed them to do, which
also meant they could be tortured or killed just for the same reason why an animal could be killed.
Second, under the system of slavery, African Americans were kept getting hurt mentally because

British Policy Of Appeasement At World War II
British Policy of Appeasement at the Beginning of World War Two The First World War was the
beginning of a new era in fighting. Weapons and fighting technique had drastically changed, making
war much more dangerous. With the predictions for the new weapons including poisonous gas and
bigger bombs, Great Britain was very much afraid for its citizens, especially men and women of
fighting age. The country wished to avoid war at any cost. The choices of Neville Chamberlain and

Britain enter the war. Many believe that with the Treaty of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later that year, Italy and Germany both supported the revolutionaries of Spain. France had a policy of
nonintervention and Britain had forbidden the sale of arms to either side. Even when the Spanish
government fell, because of the inability to buy arms, Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain tried to
recreate a friendship with Italy. Chamberlain was also interested in a general settlement that would
include Germany. His beliefs were that Germany had been treated unfairly and self determination
should be allowed for countries wanting to reunite with Germany.3 Chamberlain was for appeasement
at any cost. Avoiding war was most important to him. He wanted to make Germany happy and avoid
war; unfortunately, he misjudged Hitler. He believed that Hitler only wanted to rebuild Germany and
so because of his previous mentioned sympathies he believed he was working with Hitler to reconnect
Germany. But instead he was working to create more tensions and anger through out Britain and
Europe as is shown in the next paragraph. The next move by Germany was in September of 1938,
when Hitler demanded that the Sudetenland be returned to Germany based on self determination. The
Sudetenland had been annexed to Czechoslovakia by at the Paris Peace Conference when the country

At 10:00 we got on our plane to head to Fort Myers, Florida. The plane ride was long and tiring, and
on the plane I was sitting next to a very nice lady while I was doing my homework.
Do you need to turn on the lights? she asked.
No I m okay, I replied. Thank you though. We went on with the rest of our plane ride. Before landing
our pilot did a little overview of the ocean and Florida, even though we couldn t see, the lights from
Florida looked amazing! When we got off the plane and everyone was tired at 2:00 in the morning and
we got our rental car and headed off to the hotel. Of course we jumped in bed when we got there and
slept until morning.
The first day in Florida was really exciting for me because I ve never been there and it was a first time
experience with Florida. We went to go get breakfast and I saw the lady that was on the plane with me
there! After breakfast we decided to meet up with family that stayed in Florida and we went to some
shops and explored around the city. The weather in Florida was kind of chilly that day so we didn t get
to do much. After that we went to go eat, then went back to the hotel. At the hotel we all decided to go
out to the pool. We put on our swimming suits and headed downstairs to the nice outdoor pool. After a
while we went inside and watched Netflix on our phones while some of us slept. The next day was

The Impact Of Charles Lindbergh Flight There are many important accomlisments that have happened over the last 100 years such as Neil Armstrong landing on the Moon, Jonas Salk creating the Polio Vaccine etc. I believe one of the more overlooked accomplishments the last 100 years is Charles Lindbergh flying the first nonstop flight from New York to Paris in 1927. Lindbergh was in the air for about 33 hours. This tells you how transportation had evolved from the last 20 years prior with Wilbur and Orville Wright flying the first plane in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. The Tibetan s have lived intertwined with China for centuries. They tried to free themselves from China rules yet they failed. The 14th Dalai Lama fled China and found exile in India. China to this day has total control over Tibetan people. Using all the tools of repression to deter and punish Tibetan resistance as stated on Free Tibet. However, every mass shooting that has been documented and investigated have the same main question behind it; Why did the attacker choose to do this? Many times, our assumptions are all we have. Investigation analyses the entire situation as much as it can to make sure our assumptions, if needed, are as accurate as possible. However, there are a lot of theories and social situations that pertain to mass shootings as well. On July 20th, 2012, one of the deadliest mass shooting had occurred in Aurora, Colorado. A man by the name of James Holmes had been the attacker behind this mass shooting. Just a couple weeks prior to the shooting, Holmes bought a ticket online for a midnight showing of The Dark Night Rises at the local movie theater in Aurora. The night he attended the showing, left shortly after through one of the rear doors. He proceeded to leave the door open and headed towards the parking lot. Soon later, he returned. Not even 20 minutes after the movie had begun, Holmes began shooting vigorously at the audience. Holmes is dressed head to toe in protective gear a ballistic helmet, protective gear for his legs, throat and groin, black gloves and a gas mask. The United States Constitution is a document that embodies the fundamental laws and principles by which the United States is governed, sets limits on what the government can and cannot do, as well as defines the natural rights, liberties, and freedoms of American citizens. It is arguably, the most important document ever crafted in American history and the one document that affects every single citizen within the United States every single day. It is thanks to this document that the United States citizens can enjoy the freedoms that they hold today, which are outlined in the bill of rights, as well as ensuring the citizens a fair form of government through a system of checks and balances, which guarantees that the government cannot bare qualities of tyranny, corruption, and ineptitude. For example, natural rights such as the freedom of speech, which is the first amendment in the bill of rights of the constitution, ensures that the citizens of a government have a voice in government policy and procedures by allowing them to participate in political discussion, to voice their opinions through debate, and to express their content or discontent with a government official or policy, as well as laying the foundation for all other freedoms and rights. The Constitution also prevents the government from becoming too powerful or tyrannical through the separation of powers, as well as places limitations on the powers of the government through provisions such as the Establishment ... • 8. Why Saddam Hussein Ruled Iraq Saddam Hussein ruled Iraq for almost a third of the country s existence as an independent nation. Since its beginning, Iraq was divided by ethnicity and tribal structures representing alternative socio political communities in competition with central state government. In fact, Iraq has always been a weak state defined as having just enough power and coercive force for the central government to remain in control and its viability over time depended on its ability to govern and enforce laws. The durability of tribal structures, particularly those in the sparsely populated Sunni portions of the country, made it difficult for the Iraqi government to absorb and integrate them (Crone, 1993). These problems were exacerbated by the faction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This process reflected the historic ebb and flow of tribal power, as well as the political durability of tribal structures able to broker allegiance for privileged influence. Powerful Sunni tribes and tribal confederations like the Jubur, Dulaym, Tayy, Khazraj, al Azza, Harb, Maghamis, Mushahadah, Luhayb, and Ubayd became accustomed to receiving significant money and autonomy, as well as privileged positions within government (Otterman, 2003). Giving them these benefits in exchange for their allegiance benefited Hussein, however it also established these tribes as power brokers within the context of post invasion Iraq, something bound to hinder the development of Iraqi democracy and nationalism. If Sunni tribes, representing a third of the Iraqi population, could choose which government to support or require exclusive privileges from their continued acquiescence, the prospect of forming an effective Iraqi democracy seemed to require strengthening the central government by weakening the tribes. However, the ongoing Iraqi insurgency, largely fueled by the same Sunni tribes, drove the United States into adopting policies the reinforced tribal power. The concern is that the access to these waterways is limited, especially in Leonardtown. Including the roadway will make it more efficient for boaters to get their boat in the water and so that kayakers and paddle boarders don t have to lug their heavy and awkward shaped craft a couple hundred feet anymore. To use the launch and slips, a permit is needed which will be granted from the town. This fixture will be a convenience and will be a much nicer upgrade to the kayak launch at the wharf now. Currently there is a 6 x 6 soft launch that serves as an access point to the water. It is very unstable and remains submerged during high tide. According to Gabrielle Giovenco, a local kayaker/paddle boarder, the launch is positioned to far distance from the parking lot and is unstable which makes it difficult to safely launch you re vessel. The dock is also black which makes it very difficult to stand on in the summer when the sun is at its peak. The constant burn on my feet is terrible. It will not only address current concerns, but it will also allow for future expansion at the Wharf site. When entering from Washington Street the new dock will remain in its current location resulting in less of an inconvenience for everyone. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Case Study Of Chief Davis Executive Style After carefully reading the case studies, I concluded that Chief Davis executive style is in line with The Statesman and Chief Fortier s executive style is in line with The Administrator. The Statesman style stresses leadership and Chief Davis had a strong subordinate leadership in which he allowed their thoughts and ideas to be put into place (Cordner, 2016). The Statesman focuses on the department s interests by being in constant contact with the community as well as the government and gives them tasks in order to provide leadership within the community. Chief Davis focused on building support from outside of the agency by becoming transparent with the community and by allowing them to see what decisions were being made. Chief Davis had strong ties to the local businesses and as a result, they heavily supported the Lowell Police Department. A strong indicator that the LPD had the backing of their community was that a fundraiser led by a local businessman to raise some $200,000 to buy the department s mobile precinct (Cordner, 2016, p. 488). Chief Davis also had the strong support from Senator Paul Tsongas, who was a resident of Lowell and worked well with the city government. By being involved in the local government as well as the university and businesses in Lowell, Chief Davis was extremely successful in getting community and monetary support for his department (Cordner, 2016). Chief Davis was also successful in convincing the residents in the community to build a new precinct in the crime riddled Cambodian neighborhood. This was largely done because he had the trust and support of the community as well as seeking the help and advice from outside of the department in Linda Hart. Chief Davis even was able to win over one of his non supporters by hiring Cambodian and Latino officers to help close the communication gap between the police department and the minority communities. The Statesman can often have a negative impact on a department because the department members feel that he or she loses touch of who they are representing, but Chief Davis never lost the trust of his personnel and built a supporting coalition inside as well as outside of the department. The Administrator style of leadership ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Palm Oil Is The World s Most Common Oil Palm oil is the world s most common oil that can be found in many household items ranging from bars of soap to dietary foods. Most consumers are unaware that palm oil is present in most food substances because it is not required to be labeled as such. It is simply branded as vegetable oil. The global demand for this commodity has increased over the years creating expansions of plantations in Indonesia leading to biodiversity loss, forest fires, peat degradation, hardship on families and a range of social issues. Since the early 1980 s palm oil has more than tripled globally primarily in Indonesia. Most of this expansion has occurred in Indonesia, where the total land area of oil palm plantations increased by over 2100 per cent (more than 22 times greater) over the same period, growing to 4.6 million hectares . The primary source of supply and production of palm oil is through state owned, big private corporations, and smallholder farmers. State owned plantations play a modest role in the Indonesian palm oil industry as big private enterprises (such as the Wilmar Group and Sinar Mas) produce approximately half of total Indonesian production. Smallholder farmers account for around 35 percent of cultivated land . Today there are nearly ten million hectares of land in Indonesia solely dedicated to the plantation of this commodity. Individual smallholder farmers own between two and ten hectares of land for their palm oil farmland. Plantations are located in rural areas ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE PULMONARY DISEASE Have you ever known a person who smokes and has a hard time doing every day activities, due to difficulty of breath, or constantly coughing. He or she may have Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, or COPD. COPD is a progressive and treatable lung disease that causes shortness of breath due to obstruction of air way (COPD, 2013). Progressive means that is gradually gets worse over time. It is a combination of chronic bronchitis and emphysema (Causes,2014). Chronic bronchitis is inflammation of the bronchioles, which causes mucus build up (Davis,2016). Emphysema is when the air sacs get enlarged (Smoking, 2016). Since the disease does not have a cure yet it is important to know pathology (path of disease), epidemiology (who is effected in a population), ethology (who is effected genetically), manifestation (symptoms), treatment, and outcome. First step preventing COPD is to know how it affects the body and the path taken; this is called the pathology. In normal, healthy breathing a person breathes in air that is moves through the bronchial tubes to the bronchioles. At the end of the bronchioles there are air sacs called alveoli. The alveoli are elastic air sacs that control the gas exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide to the body (Smoking, 2016). The alveoli consist of elastic tissue so when a person breaths in the the alveoli can expand and when the carbon dioxide is released it can deflate and return to it s normal size. ... • 17. Literary Devices In Stop All The Clocks Cut Off The Telephone In Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone by W.H. Auden the author uses different literary devices to portray the theme of overwhelming grief and loss. In the poem, the speaker is someone who has recently lost a loved one. The person is so distraught that they start issuing harsh demands. The speaker wants everything to stop and all noise to seize. He or she then starts revealing more personal details by telling how much the loved one meant to them. This poem is dramatic and successfully uses literary devices to show how the speaker is feeling in their time of grief. W.H. Auden uses metaphors, personification, and overstatements to reveal the effects of overwhelming grief. First, W.H. Auden uses metaphors throughout the poem in order to reveal how the speaker feels for the loved one they lost. A metaphor is a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable. The first metaphor W.H. Auden uses is He was my North, my South, my East and West (9). This metaphor conveys that the person who has died means a lot to the speaker. The directions refer to the direction the speaker s life is going. This implies that the speaker has lost all direction now that they have lost this loved one. The next metaphor the author uses is My working week and my Sunday rest (10). The author uses these words to show that the relationship between the speaker and the person who died had an intimate relationship. The final ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If they were raised to believe it was right, they would still do it, thinking they are doing right. Not only bad things have a reincarnation in the future, but good things as well. This is most likely due to the fact that they are not in an area where this is occurring, which means they couldn t possibly fathom what the kids are experiencing. Especially since child soldiers are trying to escape their horrible lives and the things that they were forced to do. To deny these children the chance of safety and freedom is not only a awful thing to do, but is also furthering the problem and the likelihood of their deaths. People everywhere are often given chances to redeem themselves, so why would these children not get the same treatment? In the world today, kids play role playing games with violence. But when children are involuntarily performing actual acts of violence they are the ones who are blamed. To further prove this point, Armed and Underage explains the situation of child soldiers in Africa and how the U.S. is involved, Because the U.S. is helping to pay Somali soldiers, it is possible that the money for some child soldiers may have come from American taxpayers. • 23. Native American Role In Ww2 Case Study Throughout the history of the United States, the Native American community as a whole has always been nothing but a resource to use according the needs of the U.S. government. In fact, this governmental point of view starts with Jefferson s executive order to stop the extermination, in order to have cheap manpower to work the crops , to present day Trump s constant conflict with Native American nations, in pursuance of creating a political tool to demonstrate power . However, the Native American s role in World War II is one of the most overlooked events in U.S. history. Actually, this case illustrates the government s use of the Native American community as a material resource in a detailed and contrasting manner. The U.S campaign to dominate the Asian Pacific coast, during World War II would have taken an entirely different course if it had not been for the participation of the Navajo Code talkers. The Navajo facilitated the radio transmissions between the U.S commands in battle. One example of their vital importance, was the Saipan incident where Navajo radio transmission was necessary to stop the mistaken bombardment of U.S marines over their own commands. A further example, was their participation in the battle of Iwo Jima holds the record of 48 hours around the clock of Navajo radio decryption without error. • 24. Analysis Of The Poem The Woman Warrior By Maxine Hong... The Unescapable Net: Tradition vs Transformation in Kingston s Ideology The Woman Warrior, written by Chinese American author Maxine Hong Kingston in 1976, blends traditional Chinese folktales and memoir, and portrays the early 20th century Chinese history in a Chinese American perspective. For Maxine, it seems Chinese history means social and cultural constrains from conventional Chinese doctrines, especially regarding the social status of womanhood, the blind collectivism, and superstition in old China. Maxine s negative depiction of Chinese history partially reflects the bureaucracy of patriarchal and feudal system in old China, but more importantly, reveals Maxine herself, a third culture kid, as a paradox: she is eager to incorporate into the American mainstream society by resisting her Chinese cultural background, but at the same time, her unconscious actions imply that her Chinese background is a historical baggage that she could never discard of. By retelling experiences and legends from her mother and even her grandmother s generation, Maxine suggests how she as a Chinese American woman is in a awkward state between tradition and transformation, and presents a cultural clash between America and China. Maxine s portray of women s role under the male dominated society and feudal system suggests the first paradox in her ideology protesting male dominance, but at the same time admitting it. Women, in ancient China, are usually treated as lower social status and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Environment is everything: the man himself is nothing (Dostoevsky 359). Set in the tragic poverty stricken milieu of nineteenth century St. Petersburg, Dostoyevsky s Crime and Punishment follows the psychological suffering of Rodion Raskolnikov, or Rodya, after he murders two women and steals their money. At the outset of this journey, Raskolnikov, overhears locals complaining about a bitter old woman who owns a pawn shop. Viewing himself as an equalizer, Rodya uses the locals animosity to justify to himself the murder of the austere pawn shop owner and her sister. Shifting between guilt, pride, and indifference, his already distraught mental state is exacerbated by the opinions of those who surround him. Sonia, his lover, ... When conversing with Zamiotov, an investigator, Rodya points all the evidence in his direction, describing the way [he] would ve gone about it (159). Here, being one of his many near confessions, Dostoyevsky conveys Raskolnikov s anguish as being greater than the actual punishment. He lived under the constant torture that his psychological misery would momentarily let it out (159). Write about the way the character is created, and compare this with the way other characters are created in three other poems. You should compare it with one poem by Simon Armitage and two poems from the pre 1912 poetry bank. In Havisham, Carol Ann Duffy explores the character of Mrs Havisham and develops her by using vivid imagery and metaphors. She starts the poem with Beloved sweetheart bastard which is an oxymoron, used to display her mixed emotions about love and the man who jilted her. The plosive sounds of b and d reinforce her angry tone and helps show how she mocks romance. She is displayed as a bitter, hateful character who seeks revenge, shown with not a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Havisham and The Laboratory link not only because of their sinister characters but because both poems have a strong use of colours. In Havisham colours are used to create a contrast between a white veil which is the colour of virginity and purity, and a red balloon which can be the colour of love and sex but also for anger, hatred and embarrassment. Duffy uses this as a way to explore all the feelings and emotions of the character and could be interpreted as Duffy trying to make the audience have sympathy for Mrs Havisham. The Laboratory uses colours to create a superficial character who doesn t see the poison as dangerous or deadly, but as some sort of treasure. She refers to gold oozings and the exquisite blue as if to think of them as magical potions and not poisons. This is done to create an almost naivety to her character and suggests that she doesn t understand how dangerous her actions are. The Laboratory is set out in rhyming couplets to create a playful rhythm to show the character s childish behaviour, and how she may not be fully aware of her dangerous her actions are. As the poem starts, the speaker mentions only one woman who she wishes to poison. Yet as the poem continues, she mentions other women who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. The Production of Ammonia and Its Building Blocks Also known as azane, ammonia is a chemical compound with one nitrogen and three hydrogen atoms that are tightly bonded together; giving it the formula NH3. At room temperature, ammonia exists in a gaseous state with a colourless form and a pungent smell. It boils at 33.34°C and ammonia used for household uses is usually a mixture of ammonia and water. Ammonia provides the right conditions and nutrition that are needed for the growth of terrestrial organisms. Even in commercial products such as pharmaceuticals, ammonia is directly or indirectly a building block. Ammonia that is used for commercial applications is called anhydrous ammonia. Since it has a very low boiling point, the chemical should be kept at very low temperatures and pressure to sustain its liquid form for commercial use. Some products that contain this alkaline substance can be cleaning products or fertilizers, as ammonia is known to provide the right conditions for plants to grow. Although the chemical has several commercial uses, it is very hazardous, even in low concentrations and therefore it is important to handle the chemical properly. Inhaling or getting the solution on skin can have several effects such as burning, fainting and even death. Even low concentrations can cause damage to the human body when over exposed. People need to be themselves and not like someone else just because society says so. Fitting in with people is not always what it seems to be. Just because everyone is doing it does not mean it is right. People should be who they want to be, not who they think they need to be. Everyone should be their own individual person. Society today is full of people who want to fit in with the so called popular people. Everyone thinks that the group is popular, so they must have great ideas and thoughts. Behind this, she was actually kept working every night and rarely had a nap. A trivial mistake shockingly cost her life to pay for the baby s cry.
