2. INTRODUCTION
Puppets are derived from Latin word “PUPPA” which means doll. The
word puppet, today, means a figure which fits over the hand, like a
glove and is operated from behind below by the fingers.
It can be used as an effective teaching aid for language and social
sciences.
In selecting or writing a puppet play, the age, background and interest
of the students should be taken into consideration.

These are puppet controlled by
one hand which occupies the
interior of the puppet.
This is the simplest hand puppet
with few or no moving parts.
They can be stiff, made from
hard plastic, but are move often
flexible, made from fabric.
7. Glove Puppet
This is like a finger glove which
fits on the hand and operated
form below by fingers. It is a
complex from of hand puppet. It
is extremely portable and need
cost very little to make. It has
long been the favorite type of
puppet for street performance.
8. String/Marionettes Puppet
A marionettes is a puppet
controlled from above using
wires or strings.
Made from piece of wooden
plank, hard board paper, metal
sheet etc.
Tied to their arms, legs and
hands with strings. Strings
control the movements of body
parts acco. to dialogue made.

These are operated from the below
the stage by a combination of rods
and strings.Usually a central rod
supports the head, while two
smaller rods control the arm.
The term “Rod Puppet” can also
imply any use of rods to animate
the puppet, whether the puppet is
controlled from below, from above.

Shadow puppetry, is an ancient
form of storytelling and
entertainment which uses flat
articulated cut-out figures
(shadow puppets) which are
held between a source of light
and a translucent screen .
Various effects can be achieved
by moved both the puppets and
the light source.

Puppet action should be accompanied by short dialogues.
A puppet show should not have many characters.
Put in short duration songs and dance to arouse.
The main problem should be introduced in the beginning of the
puppet show and answer comes out at the end of it to keep up interest
and suspense.
Songs or speech from the back or recorder talk are used.
The actual voice of men, women and children can be limited.
There should be silent pause in between the dialogues.

Puppet show can heighten the human emotions.
It captures the attention of participant.
It creates interest in learner for learning.
It motivates the students and stimulate thinking.
In nursing puppetry used in health education program.
It provide emotional release.
It develops cooperation among children.
15. Disadvantages of Puppetry
It needs group co-operation and co-ordination.
It requires skills in preparation and in presentation.
Preparation is very time consuming.
Seating arrangements is to be managed carefully.
Ideas convey through puppets show can be misinterpreted by the
audience.
