PUPPETS
INTRODUCTION
One of the old and popular art in Indian
villages is puppetry. Puppetry is an education
cum entertaining aid where puppets are
manipulated by the performer.
It can be used as an effective teaching aid for
language and social science.
In selecting or writing a puppet play , the age
, background and interest of the students should
be taken into consideration.
DEFINITION
A puppet is a manipulative doll dressed as a
character and the performer is a person
termed as a puppeter. A good puppetier has to
blend his art with dramatization to produce
the desired effect it is used as an effective
teaching it for language and social science.

Puppetry is an educational cum
entertaining aid in which puppets
manipulated by the performer is a person
termed as character in a story to be depicted
.

OBJECTIVES
To provide the opportunity for students to show their talents
& creativity; puppet making, script writing, directing , filming
and editing using software.
To promote independent learning in researching & making
decisions.

To encourage the values of teamwork, shared
responsibilities respecting and accepting each
other’s opinions & collaboration in completing the
task at each phase.
To instil pride on student’s own project.

HAND PUPPET
These are the puppets
controlled by one hand which
occupies the interior of the
puppets This is the simplest
hand puppet with few or no
moving parts.
GLOVE
PUPPET
This is like a finger
glove which fits on
the hand &
operated from
below by fingers.
It is a complex
form of hand
puppet.
It is extremely
portable & needs
cost very little to
make.
RODPUPPET
There are operated
from below the stage
by a combination of
rods & strings
Usually a central rod
supports the head,
while two smaller
rods control the arm.
FINGER PUPPET
•AN EXTREMELY SIMPLE
PUPPET VARIANT WHICH
FITS ONTO A SINGLE FINGER.
•FINGER PUPPET++
NORMALLY HAVE NO
MOVING PARTS.
BEE FINGER PUPPET
STRING/
MARIONETTES
PUPPETS
It consists of puppets
with hinged body parts
which are controlled by
nine strings produce
required movements in
the puppets.
Made from piece of
wooden plank, hard
board paper, metal
sheet etc.
Strings control the
movements of body
parts according to
STICKPUPPETS
 Stick puppets are
painted cardboard/paper
cut-outs attached by
sticks
 These puppets are
manipulated by the
teacher & students by
hiding behind a screen
so that only puppets are
visible the audience or
the class.
SHADOW
PUPPET
Shadow puppetry is
an ancient form of
storytelling and
entertainment which
use flat articulated
cut-out figures
(shadow puppet)
which are held b/w a
source of light & a
translucent screen.
Various effects can
be achieved by
moved both the
puppets & the light
sources
CARNIVALS/
BODY PUPPETS
These puppets are at
least the size of a
human & often much
larger.
One or more
performers are required
to more the body &
limbs.
CONCLUSION
• There is a true value to using puppets are other forms of
dramatics to help develop the language skills.
• Students become more comfortable expressing themselves when
using a medium to help share their ideas.
• The use of puppetry in the classroom has shown that dramatic
should be incorporated into the learning experiences to enhance
their language & vocabulary skills.
