Dramatized Experiences
 All dramatization is essentially a process of
communication, in which both participant and spectators
are engaged.
 A creative interaction takes place, a sharing of ideas.
Kinds of dramatized experiences
 FORMAL PLAY: depicts life,character,or culture or a
combination of all three.
 PAGEANTS: are usually community dramas that are
based on local history, presented by local actors.
 TABLEAU: is a picture-like scene composed of people
against abackground.
 PANTOMIME:is an art of conveying a story through
bodily movements only.
 ROLE PLAYING: is an unrehearsed, unprepared and
spontaneous dramatization of a let`s pretend situation where
assigned participants are absorbed by their own roles in the
situation described by the teachers.
 PUPPETS: a movable model of a person or animal used in
entertainment and typically moved either by strings from above
or by hand inside it.
Types of puppets
 SHADOW PUPPETS: flat black silhoutte made from light
weight cardboard and shown behind a screen.
 ROD PUPPETS: flat cut out figures tacked to a stick, with
one or more movable parts, and operated from below the stage
level by wire rods or slender sticks.
 HAND PUPPETS: the puppet`s head is operated by the
forefinger of the puppeeeteer, the little finger and thumb being
used to animate the puppet hands.
 Glove-and-finger puppets:make use of old gloves to
which small costumed figures are attached.
 Marionettes: flexible, jointed puppets operated by strings or
wires attached a cross bar and maneuvered from directly above
the stage.
PRINCIPLES IN CHOOSING A PUPPET
PLAY
 Do not use a puppets play that can be done just as well or
better by the other dramatic means.
 Puppet plays must be based on action rather than on words.
 Keep the play short.
 Do not omit the possibilities of music and dancing as part of
the puppet show.
 Adapt the puppet show to the age, background, and tastes of
the students.
Advantages of dramatized experiences
 Energizing activity/fun to do
 Allows participants to contribute actively (even the quieter
ones)
 This is time efficient
 Experiential learning is more powerful than instructions
 It delivers complex concepts in a simple manner
 Needs little preparation for the teacher/facilitator(unless you
want to print out role descriptiors).
Disadvantages of dramatized experiences
 Participants may be too shy and reluctant.
 Can be threatening to some.
 It can become to much fun and distrupt the task.
 Participants can get too involved and loose objectivity.
 Participants can overact and show off the observe well or take
notes.
 The observer may take sides based on their preconceptions.

  • 3. Dramatized Experiences  All dramatization is essentially a process of communication, in which both participant and spectators are engaged.  A creative interaction takes place, a sharing of ideas.
  • 4. Kinds of dramatized experiences  FORMAL PLAY: depicts life,character,or culture or a combination of all three.  PAGEANTS: are usually community dramas that are based on local history, presented by local actors.  TABLEAU: is a picture-like scene composed of people against abackground.
  • 5.  PANTOMIME:is an art of conveying a story through bodily movements only.  ROLE PLAYING: is an unrehearsed, unprepared and spontaneous dramatization of a let`s pretend situation where assigned participants are absorbed by their own roles in the situation described by the teachers.  PUPPETS: a movable model of a person or animal used in entertainment and typically moved either by strings from above or by hand inside it.
  • 6. Types of puppets  SHADOW PUPPETS: flat black silhoutte made from light weight cardboard and shown behind a screen.  ROD PUPPETS: flat cut out figures tacked to a stick, with one or more movable parts, and operated from below the stage level by wire rods or slender sticks.  HAND PUPPETS: the puppet`s head is operated by the forefinger of the puppeeeteer, the little finger and thumb being used to animate the puppet hands.
  • 7.  Glove-and-finger puppets:make use of old gloves to which small costumed figures are attached.  Marionettes: flexible, jointed puppets operated by strings or wires attached a cross bar and maneuvered from directly above the stage.
  • 8. PRINCIPLES IN CHOOSING A PUPPET PLAY  Do not use a puppets play that can be done just as well or better by the other dramatic means.  Puppet plays must be based on action rather than on words.  Keep the play short.  Do not omit the possibilities of music and dancing as part of the puppet show.  Adapt the puppet show to the age, background, and tastes of the students.
  • 9. Advantages of dramatized experiences  Energizing activity/fun to do  Allows participants to contribute actively (even the quieter ones)  This is time efficient  Experiential learning is more powerful than instructions  It delivers complex concepts in a simple manner  Needs little preparation for the teacher/facilitator(unless you want to print out role descriptiors).
  • 10. Disadvantages of dramatized experiences  Participants may be too shy and reluctant.  Can be threatening to some.  It can become to much fun and distrupt the task.  Participants can get too involved and loose objectivity.  Participants can overact and show off the observe well or take notes.  The observer may take sides based on their preconceptions.
