The Police Act, 1861 remained till the
promulgated Police Order, 2002 (the "Order")
which came into effect on 14 August 2002.
However, it should be noted that
notwithstanding the introduction of the Order,
no new rules for the police were ever
implemented.

• More than 300,000 street crimes are reported with the
Punjab Police each month
• This year 12,245 children were kidnapped
• between 11,000 and 12,000 children were kidnapped
the previous year
• It says FIRs of 22 per cent of kidnap for ransom cases
