This document summarizes a survey conducted in Nepal in 2015 on public opinion and compliance with tobacco control legislation. The survey assessed compliance with smoke-free policies, advertising bans, and pictorial health warning labels. Data was collected through interviews and observations across several districts of Nepal. Key findings showed increased awareness of tobacco laws but some non-compliance remained. Recommendations included continuing education campaigns and regular compliance monitoring.

• Globally, tobacco use is a major risk factor for non-
communicable diseases (NCDs), killing one person every six
seconds.

• Nepal passed a comprehensive tobacco control law in April
2011

on 90 percent
• Nepal received the Bloomberg award for advancing ahead with
biggest-ever pictorial graphic health warnings
• NHEICC, being a focal point for tobacco control, is conducting
various programs for the effective implementation of the
enforced law.

• Increased IEC/BCC about law and tobacco
• Increased pictorial health warning message and
health awareness message
• Completely stopped promotional and
advertisement activities

14. RECOMMENDATION
• Concerned agencies should continue to work toward establishing
smoke free environments in all public places.
• Knowledge Attitude and Practices related education and awareness
campaigns should be conducted to encourage people to adopt smoke
free laws and they should be made aware about the effects of
secondhand smoke.
• Surveys should be carried out in the months before which we had
done in this time.
• No smoking signage or notice should be developed in sufficient
quantity and distributed in all public places.
