Psychology is the scientific study of behaviour and mental processes. The role of psychologists has diversified to cater for the needs of the individual as well as for communities, professions and organisations. Teaching and research facilities for psychology are excellent at JCU Singapore and we offer a psychology clinic. Graduates who complete an APAC-accredited four-year course majoring in psychology can apply for conditional registration as psychologists with the Psychology Board of Australia. Subject to completing a further two years of supervised practice (in Australia) or a Master of Psychology, graduates can gain membership of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and apply for registration to practice as psychologists in Australia. The Singapore Psychological Society has its own requirements for registration as a psychologist in Singapore.

2. JCU Singapore is fully owned by James Cook University Australia. The university is ranked in the top 4%* of universities in the world. It established JCU Singapore in 2003 as part of its expressed intent of internationalising its activities and offers a suite of university level programs at the Singapore campus including Business, IT, Psychology and Education.

JCU Singapore provides the opportunity for students to study in Singapore and in Australia and yet still remain as Singapore based students paying their fees in Singapore currency. This is a unique program in Asia and is only able to operate because the university operates across both countries. JCU Singapore is EduTrust Certified. The EduTrust certification scheme is administered by the Council for Private Education (CPE) a statutory board formed in 2009. EduTrust requires all students to be covered under a Fee Protection Scheme. In JCU Singapore, this is provided through an insurance protection scheme. Further, EduTrust also requires that the students must be covered under a medical insurance coverage which has provision for hospitalisation, surgery and treatment costs throughout their course duration. JCU Singapore will advise in the Standard Student Contract the total amount of insurance payable.

The postgraduate programs in Clinical Psychology provide academic and practical postgraduate training for professional practice at a level sufficient to meet the criteria for registration as a practicing psychologist in Singapore and Australia.
The programs in Australia and Singapore are accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) and graduates are eligible for membership of the APS College of Clinical Psychologists.

The professional programs encompass three
main components:
Academic Coursework
The coursework modules are usually delivered in weekly teaching sessions and some may be delivered in workshop format (e.g. two 3-day workshops). Students are actively engaged in presentations,
role-plays, practice assessments and group discussions.
Supervised Practica
There is a total of 1,000 practical hours for the Masters program (students in the Doctoral program will complete an additional 500 hours), which are conducted in the JCU Singapore Psychology Clinic and in external clinical settings.
Research Thesis
A research project focusing on an area of clinical psychology is conducted and written up as a conventional research dissertation (maximum of 15,000 words for the Masters program and 50,000 words for the Doctoral program).
