PHILOSOPHY
Doctor of Philosophy Program in Health Sciences, Walailak University is an
interdisciplinary program that provides advanced study and research training
opportunities for a variety of areas of Health Sciences. This Program is a research-
based degree leading to dissertations and publications. The Ph.D. program is
constructed to provide students with an understanding of research principles and
practices and skills to conduct independent basic and applied research. The students
have the potential to collaborate with international research networks in the area of
interest.
DESIRABLE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE COURSE
Our course focuses on research expertise based on dissertations in a wide range
of areas within health sciences under the supervision of professional staff in a variety
of health science fields, including nursing, medicine, pharmacy, allied health sciences,
and public health. In addition, the Ph.D. course provides scientific training to support
students’ research dissertations through seminars and intensive workshops or courses,
including conceptual foundations of health sciences, research methodology, ethics of
scientific research, and scientific communication (including writing, speaking, and
visual presentation). Graduates in the Ph.D. in Health Sciences are required to have
two publications in international academic journals and deliver an oral presentation in
an international conference.
2. COURSE HIGHLIGHTS
1. The course is taught in accordance with the United Kingdom Professional
Standards Framework (UKPSF). All lecturers in the course are certified for
teaching standards and learning support.
2. The curriculum has course lecturers who have expertise in various fields.
3. The curriculum has prepared study and research plans for individual students
and has a system and mechanism for supervising, following up, and helping
students to be able to graduate within 3 academic years for students in types 1.1
and 2.1 and 4 academic years for students in types 1.2 and 2.2.

SELECTION PROCESS
1. All received applications will be assessed and ranked against the eligible criteria
for the available quota by the University committee.

3. GRADUATIONCRITERIA
1. Two published papers, or at least accepted for publication, in international
scientific journals.
2. The thesis work or its part must be presented at a national or international
academic conference (or symposium).

. Admission criteria and requirements for the program
1) For those enrolled in types 1.1 and 2.1, you must have completed a master’s degree
or the equivalent in science or another related field. You could also be studying in
your last semester of a master’s degree program or the equivalent in science or
another related field.
2) For those enrolled in types 1.1 and 2.1, you must have a cumulative grade point
average throughout their master’s degree studies of at least 3.50 or equivalent or have
at least one research paper published in a journal accredited by the Office of the
Higher Education Commission, or have other qualifications as approved by the
committee of the College of Graduate Studies.
3) For those enrolled in types 1.2 and 2.2, you must have a bachelor’s degree or the
equivalent in science or another related field. You could also be studying in your last
semester of a bachelor’s degree program or the equivalent in science or another
related field.
4) For those enrolled in types 1.2 and 2.2, you must have a cumulative grade point
average throughout their bachelor’s degree studies of at least 3.00 or equivalent or
have at least one research paper published in a journal accredited by the Office of the
Higher Education Commission (OHEC), or have other qualifications as approved by
the committee of Graduate Studies.
5) Applicants must meet the English proficiency test score requirements set by the
committee of the College of Graduate Studies.
6) Applicants must meet the qualifications outlined in Walailak University
regulations for graduate education in the semester system for the year 2022.
