Guaranteed Annual Income
Guaranteed Annual Income is defined as a compensation program provided by the government to
any family or individual whose annual income falls below a specified level. Over several years
there have been arguments over the pros and cons of the Guaranteed Annual Income (GAI), and
there have been no final determinates that conclude whether GAI would be a benefit or waste to
our country. After researching and reading different articles and reports about the GAI debate in
Canada, I have come to find more pros than cons and I stand my position as pro Guaranteed Annual
Income and these are my findings: past pilots projects that implemented basic income programs that
showed positive and beneficial results, the eradication of poverty and by using the... Show more

Effects Of The 1945 Recession
The 1945 recession resulted from the conclusion of World War II. Naturally, the economy does
well during a war due to all the consumer spending. Weapons must be bought during war, along
with different parts for tanks, airplanes, battleships, etc. In addition, with the departure of a large
quantity of men who serve as soldiers during the war, many more job opportunities become
available for women and others who may have simply not had jobs prior to the war. World War II
was no different. The economy did so well that it pulled the nation out of the Great Depression.
World War II, like other wars, was financially a success for the U.S.
With its end, the nation lost the huge demand for military supplies needed during war, causing a
recession.

What Is The Relative Sodium Concentration Of Osmosis
I believe that an average potato has a relative sodium chloride concentration of .17 moles. I also
believe that an average potato has a relative glucose concentration of .95 moles. I have drawn
these conclusions based on the data my classmates and I have collected as well as my knowledge
of osmosis.
When placed in various levels of sodium chloride solutions, the mass of the potatoes increased less
the higher the concentration of sodium was in a given solution. For example, when placed in a
solution of pure tap water, the potato cubes exhibited an average mass change of +7.466%. Next,
when placed in a solution with a molarity of .05, the potato cubes exhibited an average mass
change of +3.442%. Finally, when placed in a solution with a molarity of .15, the potato cubes
exhibited an average mass change of +1.2%. When the potato cubes exhibit an average mass change
of 0, it will mean that the sodium chloride concentration is the same, both in the water and the
potato. When the potato had a mass change, it meant that the sodium chloride concentration was
hypotonic, or lower inside the potato cells than the water. However, as the mass change percentage
grew lower and lower, the difference in sodium chloride concentration also grew smaller. When the
potato and water have the same concentration, they will be isotonic, which means there is the same
concentration both in the potato and in the water. This will not cause the potato to change mass
because the potato cells do not

Analysis Of Songs Of Rebellion
Matthew Caruso Beverly Mitchell Arts Culture II April 6, 2017 Songs of Rebellion Smashing
anything from pumpkins to instruments, Rock Roll is a form of art with flare. Generations of
people from the 50 s to modern day have enjoyed a little bit of rebellion in their life. But while the
rebels continue to rage against the machine of society, that society is constantly changing. Different
issues become highlighted and more relevant as others fall to the wayside, but Rock music does
not stand by jovially. With constant adapting and innovating, Rock Roll always finds something to
scream about. The history of Rock begins around the 50 s, right off the cusp of World War II. The
oppressed youths of America wanted something to represent... Show more content on

By the end of the decade, however Rock was taken over by big business, and what used to be a
provocative sound turned into songs about teen appropriate issues such as school, parents,
young love, etc. By the end of the 50 s and beginning of the 60 s rock had somewhat died down
and become tamer. many thought it was dead until the mid 60 s. Rock Roll had a resurgence,
known as The British Invasion . While things had settled down in the US, England had been
inspired. Groups from Britain like the Rolling Stones and the Beatles brought a fresh style,
infusing British Rhythm and Blues and Jazz into what they played. This revival propelled the
genre down two different paths. Many groups came onto the scene and continued to make more of
the same teen appropriate pop style music. others pushed boundaries in an industry heavily
influenced by drugs, spawning the phrase, Sex, Drugs, and Rock Roll . The Beatles were at the
center of it all, experimenting with different sounds and instruments. Their experimentations
became part of a larger movement, known as psychedelic rock, which included the likes of Jimi
Hendrix and Pink Floyd. Pink Floyd was one of the first bands to use laser lights in their concerts.
What s more psychedelic than that? Hendrix even took it a step further, creating what many call
Acid Rock. Additionally, the Beatles were not just trendsetters with their music, but also with
fashion, sporting hair that was abnormally long for men at the

beings to advance and seek new methods of life. These methods such as manufacturing may result
in emission of harmful substances to the immediate environment. My take is that the human race
should strive to make the world a better place by redeeming its natural state. Planting trees and
adopting environmentally friendly sources of energy. This is the only way to salvage the earth
we are living in today. Me: Do you think the internet is a major contributor to the high levels of

Indi The Biggest Film Industry
Bollywood is almost a religion for the people who live in India; it is the biggest film industry in
terms of sale. As Dagnaud and Fiegelson describe the situation, Ranking number one in the world
for the film production, being part of the top group of the cinema enthusiast nations, endowed
with T.V. channels and with a music industry full of dynamism, India has thus developed an
entertainment industry of large size movies playing the role of a launching pad. According to the
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India , 2013 figures show that India is the 14th largest
entertainment and media industry in the world. This national revenue contributes to about 1% of
the global entertainment and media s GDP. Bollywood is one of the largest and most successful
industries in the world which has been running for 100 years, 2008 figures show that the Indian
Film industry has grown by 17% over the course of three years (2004 2007). The toe curling
embarrassment we face when one of these sensual performances are broadcasted during family TV
time makes me wonder why it s uncomfortable to watch women perform item numbers like Baby
Doll and not have a problem when watching scenes similar to Dostana when John Abraham is
swimming in trunks. Is this because of the stereotypes that Indian society has about how decent
women should behave? Or is it due to the vulgarity of the performance? The story and themes of
Bollywood movies traditionally portray the culture of religion; this has now

Doors Opening, Closing On Us, By Marge Piercy
The word doors can have different meanings. Literally, they are a slab of material that separates
something from another, usually a room. Figuratively they can have many meanings, for example,
they can symbolize a growth or a development. In addition, doors can show, an important point
where someone turns from a child into an adult, or they can symbolize celebrations held to
commemorate these special transitions. Doors can also be used to describe life s most important
parts, such as being born or passing away. The Giveris a book by Lois Lowry, it is about a boy
named Jonas living in a community set in the future. This community faces strict laws, if the
citizen does not abide by these rules then there can be some serious punishments. In this book
Jonas gets selected as a receiver, the receiver s job is to get memories from the past and store
them in his mind to shield the truth from the people of the community. The poem Doors
Opening, Door Closing on Us is by Marge Piercy, this poem is about the essence of doors and
what they can symbolize. Piercy writes about how doors can mean various things to different
people. Both the book Giver and the poem Doors Opening, Closing on Us have similarities that
describe the stages a person goes through in their life.
The poem and the story both describe death using a door. Lois Lowry incorporates doors in her
book by writing about how a citizen has to walk through a special door into the releasing room. In

Hamlet And Hamlet Comparison
When comparing two different Hamlet movies I found that one scene in particular was obviously
more different than the others. I compared Columbia pictures 1996 version with Kenneth Branagh
playing the role of Hamlet versus BBC s 2009 Hamlet in which David Tennant played the
honorable role of Hamlet. When comparing both movies I found a lot of similarities but there was
one major difference when I compared the To be or not to be scene. The scenes vary in multiple
ways whether it is lighting, focus, camera movements, and even the actors that play Hamlet.
I first want to dissect the 1996 movie in which Kenneth Branagh plays Hamlet. The To be or not to
be scene is clearly one of the most important scenes of the entire movie, so the directors ... Show

While both did their job of acting out the scene I believe Kenneth Branagh s 1996 film does a
much better job. Kenneth choose to act the scene in a very grand ballroom, which I think was
appropriate due to the grandness of soliloquy itself. In the BBC version of the scene Hamlet is
shown leaning against a pillar with such low key lighting you can not tell what sort of room he is
in. When Hamlet first enters the grand ballroom in the older movie he takes his time to begin
speaking which is crucial between the transition between the last scene and the current scene. The
length in speech gives the audience the chance to settle in for what they are about to hear. In David
Tennant s version he quickly jumps into his speech not leaving much room for transition. The
common audience does not understand every word of the Shakespearean language hamlet speaks
and may lose interest while Hamlet continues to ramble on. The continued camera movement
throughout Kenneth Branagh s movies helps the audience to stay focussed on the movie even if
they do not fully understand every word Hamlet speaks. During Gregory Doran s movie,
throughout the entire scene there are only two transitions and the camera never moves in either
position. This adds to the viewer losing interest, not only are they bored by having nothing in the
background to look at, due to the low key lighting, they are bored by the complex English
language Hamlet speaks and given only two transitions and no movements to maintain their
interest. The first representation of the To be or not to be speech creates multiple plots to further
add in maintaining the viewers interest. By placing the king and Polonius behind the two way
mirror and having Hamlet walk to the exact mirror creates a sense of urgency that is non existent
in the BBC version. Having this extra story allows

Facial Recognition System
CHAPTER 1 FACIAL RECOGNITION SYSTEM
1.1 INTRODUCTION
A biometrics is, Automated methods of recognizing an individual based on their unique physical or
behavioral characteristics. For example face, fingerprint, signature, voice etc. Face recognition is a
task humans perform remarkably easily and successfully.
In face recognition Features extracted from a face are processed and compared with similarly
processed faces present in the database. If a face is recognized it is known or the system may show
a similar face existing in database else it is unknown.
Face recognition has been a topic of active research since the 80 s, proposing solutions to several
practical problems. It has been a challenging job for the researchers to develop a facial recognition
system with 100% accuracy because of all the difficulties and limitations. As we know that the
human face changes after a short period of time so no facial recognition system can work
perfectly after a few years. It has to be updated with the latest database images of the person in
order to verify the person. Also wearing spectacles, mask, mustaches may also affect the output of
the face recognition system. Face recognition is a biometric which is much easier to understand,
because we recognize or identify different people mostly by their faces. However the recognition
process used by the human brain for identifying faces has not a concrete explanation. It has now
become essential to have reliable security systems in

Analysis Of The Jamestown Fiasco
The overpopulated lands of England had gotten word of a Italian man, sailing under the Spanish
crown had discovered land across a rather devoid sea! England knew there was catching up to do
and after a previous failure at Roanoke island the Brits were determined to succeed! Though despite
their high spirits, the New World was harsh and unforgiving, which made the new colony of
Jamestown anything but a success. With countless raids by Native American tribes and the
continuing starvation of the colony, Harvard graduate, author, and United States historian, Edmund
Morgan elaborates on the failure of Jamestown within his work titled The Jamestown Fiasco . The
Englishman s encounters with the Native Americans were almost never mutual or positive. The
first encounter with the people of the new world was a defeat at best, the Native Americans drove
the Englishmen back upon the ships they had come from, but the English were determined that they
would be here to stay. They moved farther down the James River and found a suitable location for
settlement. Through poor leadership, however, brought the true demise of the possible friendly
relations between the Natives and English unlike their French counterparts further north. Innocent
Native Americans coming into Jamestown with food and gifts were often treated like spies and
taken hostage by the colonists. This understandably gave the natives of the region a common goal, it
was the English versus them. Though the first encounter

The Legality of the NSA Essay
After the disclosures by Edward Snowden turned a critical eye to the NSA many people
questioned the legality of the acts. The NSA claimed that their work was legal and had prevented
many terrorist plots. However, evidence of only four plots was ever found. Even if the acts were
founded in law, they still angered large numbers of citizens. Many citizens do not care if the spying
is legal, believing that it is morally wrong. Governmentsurveillanceorganizations have grown to be
extremely powerful and are capable of accessing large swaths of personal information; these
abilities intrude into the private lives of citizens and need to be curtailed.

With this information at hand, consumer trust in the companies dropped significantly; most
notably overseas where the NSA has fewer restrictions on what information could not be taken
about individuals. This is just a dragnet, a collection of basic information on everybody. If they
have a suspect, then they are more specific in their search. In a search for possible associates that
might provide information about possible plots the NSA can search three jumps , or degrees of
separation, from the target. This means that a friend of a friend of a friend of a target can be
spied on more so than the usual dragnet approach. This may seem like a relatively small quantity
at first, but considering that the average Facebook user has 190 friends, 16% of which are friends
with each other, from one subject it is possible that over 5 million individuals can be spied on from
one individual. Even a subject having just one friend or associate can result in over 26 thousand
individuals being the subject of spying efforts. Of course, there are more ways to retrieve
personal information than just phone records and Facebook profiles. The NSA can access any

saved on cloud storage services. Cars often have black boxes which record information such as

The First Girl s Basketball Team
I graduated in 1966. As a woman, there were few choices available to us. Most of my classmates
got married and had children right out of school. Only a few wealthy girls were able to go to
school, and they were looking for guys with an upscale future. During my high school years,
there were no teams for girls to play in. In my Senior year they established the first girl s
basketball team, but they did not play to crowds. They only competed after school with an
empty stadium. Vietnam was going on at the time. It was an endless series of men dying in a
war that never seemed to end. People sat and ate their dinner while pictures of war flashed on
our television sets. We had become numb to our leaders getting killed and the funerals that
followed. When a friend came home from Vietnam and was buried the reality and horror of it
became real. Times were different then. People called each other once a week. There were party
lines and you had to wait for your neighbor to get off the phone before you could use it. People
went to see each other and gathered around the kitchen table and actually conversed about the
events in their lives. If you had an emergency you had to find a pay phone or hope someone with
a kind heart would help you out of your problem. We sat and watched the first man walk on the
moon, late into the night. It was hard to fathom that we as a country, could accomplish such a
great feat. We never looked at the moon the same again. In 1973, I worked in a local

Habituation of Exploratory Behavior in Rats
Abstract
This study investigated the effects of displaced objects and spatial reorganization on habituation of
exploratory behavior. The subjects, rats, each individually spent 5 minutes in an open field for 6
trials. Throughout the study, exploratory behavior was measured in the number of contacts the
subject made, the number of ambulations, and contact time (seconds). Trials 1 5 were mainly used
to familiarize the subject with its surroundings, naturally leading to decreasing amounts of
exploratory behavior. Trial 6 involves the same routine, except displaced objects are introduced in
an attempt to renew exploratory behavior and promote the building up of environmental maps and
representations. Additionally, the measured behavior... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this present study, behavior tests were used in order to determine the likelihood of renewed
exploratory behavior in a familiar environment after the introduction of displaced objects.
Additionally, renewed exploratory behavior seems to play a critical role in building environmental
maps, leading to the integration of new spatial relationships Poucet et al. (1986).
The primary aim of this experiment was to determine if rats would gain a renewal of exploratory
behavior due to displaced objects after habituation had settled in. Based on results from these
previously mentioned experiments, we hypothesized that subjects were capable of renewing
exploratory behavior in a spatially reorganized environment. However, this was under the
assumption that complications such as age and species type were inapplicable.

Patient Confidentiality
What is confidentiality? Confidentiality is the right of an individual to have personal, identifiable
medical information kept private. It is ones private information that comes to the knowledge of a
person, in circumstances where an individual has been given notice, or is held to have agreed, that
the information is not to be disclosed. A non disclosure agreement is a standard written agreement
that is used when two or more companies work together. Anyone that have access to private
information is often required to sign a confidentiality agreement and it is often a clear indication
that the information is sensitive and non sharable. Non disclosure agreements are used in almost all
professions, as people rely more and more on confidential communications.... Show more content

This is when a patient s private information is disclosed to a third party. Breaches in patient
confidentiality can have long term adverse effects, even when no lawsuit is filed. Patients are at
risk of having their private information shared or the practice s reputation can be permanently
damaged. The HIPAA Privacy Rule can also come into play. HIPAA is the federal Health
Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996. The main goal of this law is to make it
easier for people to keep health insurance, protect the confidentiality and security of healthcare
information and help the healthcare industry control administrative costs. In doing so providers
are rules that they are required to follow. They must develop and implement a privacy policy.
Train all employees to ensure their understanding of and full participation with the privacy
policies and procedures, and to also designate a person to see that the practice s privacy policies
are in affect and followed and ensure that patient records are secure and accessible only to those
who need them. A HIPAA violation can result in both civil and criminal penalties and monetary
civil penalties of $100 per violation can be incurred up to $25,000/person/year. Anyone who
knows and obtain or discloses private information in violation of HIPAA can be fined up to
$50,000 and be imprisoned up to one year. If the offense is committed with intent to sell or be used

Analysis Of Luncheon On The Grass
Discussion Essay: Luncheon on the Grass (Le DГ©jeuner sur l herbe) Luncheon on the grass, a
painting that left people of its time stunned was created in 1863 by painter Edouard Manet. This
painting was an Impressionist work that broke the barrier that art should only be made if it
respects the established conventions and attempts to achieve timelessness. The original name
for this artwork was The Bath but it was changed four years later. It is an oil painting on canvas and
its size is 208cm x 264.5cm (81.9 in x 104.1 in) it is a large painting. The color scheme of dark
green, brown and black used to it gives a very earthly sensation. Manet s style of painting was as
controversial as his subjects as he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All the figures in the painting were real individuals in Manet s life. The man towards the left is
Ferdinand Leenhof who is his soon to be brother in law, the man on the right is his younger
brother Eugene Manet and most importantly the nude woman who left everyone stunned was a
female model, Victorine Meurent, who makes another appearance in Manet s other painting
Olympia where once again she is the topic of debate. As all the figures were recognizable and
were portrayed in an explicit narrative made it even more difficult to be displayed alongside
traditional paintings. The painting was rejected by the official French academy in 1863 because
it left the salon jury outraged to how the woman is being shown in the nude with no shame at all.
Although nude women had always been the subject of classical art the problem here was that
she was being depicted as a normal human being. Her body posture seemed relaxed, by
slouching it also creates folds on her stomach. The salon did not approve as she was displayed as
a regular modern day woman who happened to take her clothes off (you can see her polka dotted
dress and hat towards her left) rather than a goddess or mythological creature. Another problem
they had was that she is looking directly into the viewer s eyes with confidence and self awareness

Geothermal Energy Potential For Solar Energy
For Longmont, solar energy may be the best option, although Hydro power, Biomass, and
Geothermal all present options. For Utica, solar energy potential was very low, while the potential
for Hydro power is high and most likely that best option. For Cedar Rapids, solar energy potential
was also relatively low, while Biomass presents the greatest potential. Yuma has extremely high
potential for solar energy, so this seems to be the best option, but also has high potential for
Geothermal energy and Hydro power.
I would recommend the following to Mr. Greene for each of the four locations:
Longmont, CO: 70% Solar, 30% Geothermal
Utica, NY: 100% Solar
Cedar Rapids, IA: 30% Solar, 70% Biomass
Yuma, AZ: 80% Solar, 20% Geothermal

Everyday Life in Sixteenth Century France Essay
The lifestyle in France, just like in all other European countries, has changed dramatically since the
early 1700 s. People went from farmers to factory owners to all of the professions of today s
society. The main reason for the great changes in lifestyle that occurred in France was the Industrial
Revolution, which urbanized most of France. But the Industrial Revolutionwas not the only thing
that changed France. The monarchy fell the church changed, and the role people had in their jobs
and family life change drastically.
In the sixteenth century France was mainly a farming country. People lived in small communities
and rarely died in a town other than where they were born (Gildea 42). Family life was quit simple,

During this time in France the church was very powerful politically and economically, the church
did not really want to educate many people, especially poor people (Gildea 225). Life for nobles
and clergy were very different from the farmers in the 1700 s. Nobles did not have to work. They
basically had nice things and lived in big houses and ate a lot of good food. Noble s daily meals
consisted of a variety of meats, and sides of cheese and wine (Gildea 119). Bread and anything
grown in the ground was considered peasant food and was not eaten by the nobles at all. This is
the way life had been and it slowly began to change in the 1700 s.
The scientific revolution and the enlightenment began to alter the everyday life of people in
France. Navigation became a huge part of many people s lives. Men began to study the sky s
more to figure out where they were on the sea s (Turner 482). The study of the sky led some to
make hypotheses about the universe. During this time there was a rebirth of the quest for
knowledge. Universities grew during this time; it became more popular to know how to read and
write. And the middle class society began to grow and grow. At this point in time monarchies have
more power than ever before, they rule everything, including the churches and the military (Davis

The Federal Budget Process Essay
Running head: The Federal Budget Process The Federal Budget Process Abstract This report
focuses on the federal budget process of the United States of America. The annual federal budget
begins with a detailed proposal from the President in February. The budget request is developed by
the President s Office of Management and Budget (OMB). Next, Congress creates a blueprint
called a budget resolution that sets limits on how much each committee can spend (or reduce
revenues) over the course of the year. The terms of the budget resolution are then enforced against
individual appropriations, entitlement bills, and tax bills on the House and Senate floors. In
addition, Congress sometimes uses a special procedure called... Show more content on

Second, the president uses the budget request to lay out his relative priorities for federal
programs (Myers, et al, 1989; Policy Basics, 2011). The President s budget is very specific, and
recommends funding levels for individual federal programs or small groups of programs called
budget accounts. The budget typically sketches out fiscal policy and budget priorities not only
for the year but for the next five years or more. It is also accompanied by historical tables that set
our past budget figures (Policy Basics, 2011 Para 4). The third role that the President s budget
plays is that it can be used to alert Congress of what spending and tax policy changes the
President recommends. It is not necessary for the President to propose legislative changes for
those parts of the budget that are governed by permanent law if he feels none are needed (Policy
Basics, 2011). Majority of the federal tax code is set in permanent law, and will not expire.
Similarly, more than one half of federal spending including the three largest entitlement programs
(Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security) is also permanently enacted. Interest paid on the
national debt is also paid automatically, with no need for specific legislation. (There is, however, a

The Pardoner s Tale Hypocrisy
The middle ages served a crucial role in the development of British literature, as many authors
allowed their wok to be influenced by the time. Stories from this period are loaded with imagery of
castles and knights. Along with aesthetic inspiration many authors also filled their stories with
medieval life. They would often base their stories on the tales of knights and peasants. By
accurately showcasing medieval life many authors, whether purposefully or unknowingly, captured
a theme of hypocrisy. Knights from the time often emphasised their moral character to the public.
They boosted in saying that their actions where chivalrous and that they followed god s path,
however many of them were simply lying. Many significant figures from the dark ageswere
hypocrites, therefore hypocrisy is a common theme in medieval British lit. In order to accurately

states that people should not believe in other gods, yet this preacher believes in money with the

Sulfate And Hydrate Lab Report
Introduction In this lab hydrates and anhydrous material were used to discover percent loss of
copper (II) sulfate pentahydrate and mass loss in anhydrous calcium chloride. Hydrates are
chemical compounds that have a discrete water molecules that are part of the compounds
crystalline structure. Anhydrous compounds have crystalline structures containing no water. In this
experiment, copper (II) sulfate pentahydrate was heated and loss mass, while the anhydrous
calcium gained mass. When heated, hydrates break bond with water and the water is released into
the atmosphere. Once the water in the hydrate has thoroughly evaporated, it becomes anhydrous.
Purpose The purpose of this lab was to calculate the percent of water mass the copper (II)... Show

After the copper (II) sulfate pentahydrate was heated the hydrate loss 35.16% of water. The
hydrate should have loss 36.08% of water after it was heated. The anhydrous calcium chloride
became hydrated after it gained .64% of water. As a result of the loss of 35.16% of water from
the copper sulfate pentahydrate, the anhydrous calcium chloride should have gained a higher
percent of water from the atmosphere than .64%. Evaluation: The percent error in the
experiment was 2.61%. The percent is low because most of the water in the crystals had been
driven off. A lower percent error could have occurred if the CuSO4 * 5H2O was heated more.
Suggested Improvements: When the lab experiment was conducted, the copper sulfate
pentahydrate was placed inside the casserole. If the casserole was heated before the hydrate was
place in it, then the water that might have been in the casserole prior to the sample being added
would not be included in the hydrate. Since the casserole was not heated, the result may have been
of a higher mass of water being loss. Another improvement that could be made to this experiment,
could be increasing the sample size to an average

Essay on Edgar Allen Poe s Fall of House of Usher
Bipolar disorder affects many people today as well as in the time of Edgar Allen Poe when it was
then called melancholia. Poe was diagnosed with this disorder and it plays an integral role in his
story, The Fall of the House of Usher (1839). This story is heavily influenced by this disorder or its
presently associated symptoms and also describes one way that bipolar disorder can genetically
affect an entire family. To fully understand a story involving this disorder, it is cardinal to know
the exact definition of bipolar disorder, as well as its symptoms and previous aliases. The Oxford
English Dictionary defines bipolar disorder as: a form of mental illness characterized by one or
more episodes of mania typically accompanied by one or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Also, Usher suffered much from a morbid acuteness of the senses; the most insipid food was
alone endurable; he could wear only garments of certain texture; the odors of all flowers were
oppressive; his eyes were tortured by even a faint light; and there were but peculiar sounds, and
these from stringed instruments, which did not inspire him with horror. (Poe). This heightened
sensitivity is evidence of the mania stage associated with bipolar syndrome. Also, a possible
episode of mania would be the scene involving Usher s sister coming from the dead. This could
surely be seen as an hallucination and sign of a manic episode. To recap, Usher has symptoms
from the hypomania, mania, and depressed stages meaning the ailment that he suffers from is
not melancholia, but instead a modern case of bipolar or manic depression disorder. One reason
for a character in a story having a particular disorder would be that the author has real life
experience with it. Such is the case with Edgar Allen Poe and The Fall of the House of Usher .
Poe most definitely suffered from what would now be considered a form of manic depression
disorder. During his final year on Earth, he showed signs of mania, constantly relocating to
various cities (Meyers 244). Also during this year, he is reported as saying to a friend named

What Is The Characteristics Of Gram Positive Or Gram...
Introduction:
There are two major classes of bacteria that contain peptidoglycan, Gram positive and Gram
negative. Gram positive bacteria will stain dark purple due to their thick peptidoglycan cell wall,
while Gram negative will stain pink due to their thin peptidoglycan cell wall. Many Gram positive
and negative bacteria are considered pathogens because they are capable of causing disease in
humans. In order to treat properly individuals who are infected with a pathogenic Gram positive or
Gram negative bacteria, the identity of the bacteria must be found. In this experiment numerous,
differential and selective media, as well as chemical test, were used to evaluate the growth patterns
and characteristics of clinically relevant bacteria. Data collected from the specific results was used
to create a chart that was used to identify an unknown Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria.
The genus Staphylococcus is a Gram positive cocci that is commonly arranged in grapelike clusters.
They are universally present in large numbers on the mucous membranes and skin of humans and
other warm blooded animals. They are non spore forming, nonmotile, facultative anaerobes. Many
species of staphylococcus can be pathogenic. Staphylococcus aureus is the most common pathogen.
It can be recovered from skin lesions, abscesses, and wound infections. It can move from these sites
to the bloodstream and urine, where it then has the possibility to cause more serious conditions in

FDG is a non physiological analogue of glucose that once injected, is taken up by cell membrane
glucose receptors (Mainly, the glucose transporter 1 molecule, GLUT 1) which transport it into the
intracellular compartment, where it is phosphorylated into FDG 6 phosphate by the enzymatic

Books are sometimes banned also because a vocal group finds that particular book offensive and
immoral. Parents also attempt to remove books from the school curriculum because they find it
too offensive. However, local school books may not be removed from school library shelves
simply because they dislike the ideas contained in those books. Each book that is banned or
censored is done so for the content within the pages. There are a few common reasons that books
have been banned or censored in schools, libraries, and book stores. These include Racial Issues,
Encouragement of Damaging Lifestyles, Blasphemous Dialog, Sexual Situations or Dialog,
Violence or Negativity, Presence of Witchcraft, Religious Affiliations (unpopular religions),
Political Bias, and Age Inappropriate.
The Scarlet Letter has been challenged because it revolves around sin and punishment. The book
has also been banned because parents believed it was indecent and immoral since the main

Satire In Lysistrata
Satire, Sex and the Role of Women in Ancient Greece
Aristophanes comedy, Lysistrata, uses satire to show the issue of war between ancient Greek
cities and uses women and sex as a weapon to explain the futility of war. Aristophanes was a
playwright, landowner and political representative in Athens born around 450 BCE. He is
considered by many to be like Father of Ancient Comedy. All of Aristophanes comedies show
commentary on the contemporary society and the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta.
The comedy that I will be analyzing today, Lysistrata, was produced in 411 BCE and involves a
sex strike to end the war. In this essay, I will show how Lysistrata reflects and satirizes the
dominance of males in Athenian society, show how the convention of cross dressing conveys the
message of male dominance and speculate how an Athenian society might have responded to men
dressed as women outsmarting men. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An Athenian women s place revolved primarily around their home and family. In one of the
episodes, we see Kinesias yelling at his wife Myrrhine You know you ve let our house, your
things and mine, become an utter mess... it doesn t bother you that the hens are pulling your
woolens apart? (Episode Lines 76, 78). Athenian women rarely had a social life and were only
allowed out into the public sphere of activity for ritual. Within Lysistrata, we see satire used by
other women characters to explain their cultural norms. When Kinesias tries to use the image of
their sad baby to keep Myrrhine from leaving without having sex, Myrrhine humorously cries out
How momentous is motherhood! I ve got no choice but to go down there. (Episode Lines 63

Samuel De Champlain Analysis
Samuel de Champlain was an invaluable explorer for the French. He sailed to the West Indies on
his uncle s ship and created an illustrated report to give to King Henry IV. The two year voyage
gave him a chance to observe Spanish holdings from the Caribbean to Mexico City. The payment
given to him for his report, along with inheriting his uncle s assets, gave Champlain the freedom to
travel as he wanted.Champlain studied the failures of previous attempts at colonization in the New
World and received the King s consent to join a fur trading expedition to the New World with
François Gravé Du Pont. Du Pont taught Champlain about navigation in the New World and
advised him on how to deal with the natives. On March 15, 1603, Champlain and Du Pont... Show

Champlain and du Pont sailed up the St. Lawrence River and landed at the Rock of Quebec on
July 3 where they began to build a colony. The winter was harsh and several men died of scurvy.
By winter s end, only eight of the original twenty four explorers had survived. In order to gain the
support of the local Huron population, Champlain sailed south with their war party to fight against
the Iroquois nation. After the death of King Henry, Champlain left for France with Pont Grave on
September 5, 1609, to increase royal support for the colony.Champlain returned to Quebec in early
May 1610. After finding that his men had enjoyed a mild winter, Champlain was once again on the
warpath with his new Huron allies, and again massacred the Iroquois. On March 1, 1611 Champlain
and du Pont sailed back to Quebec.Champlain then continued down the rapids to the site of
Montreal. Here he charted the rapids that had stopped Cartier, and established a trading post
between the up river Native Americans and the French fur traders. Champlain then returned to
France on August 11.On March 6, 1613, Champlain returned to Quebec with du Pont. On May 27,
Champlain set out down the river to explore the Ottawa river in

Weapons must be bought during war, along with different parts for tanks, airplanes, battleships, etc. In addition, with the departure of a large quantity of men who serve as soldiers during the war, many more job opportunities become available for women and others who may have simply not had jobs prior to the war. World War II was no different. The economy did so well that it pulled the nation out of the Great Depression. • 4. What Is The Relative Sodium Concentration Of Osmosis I believe that an average potato has a relative sodium chloride concentration of .17 moles. I also believe that an average potato has a relative glucose concentration of .95 moles. I have drawn these conclusions based on the data my classmates and I have collected as well as my knowledge of osmosis. When placed in various levels of sodium chloride solutions, the mass of the potatoes increased less the higher the concentration of sodium was in a given solution. For example, when placed in a solution of pure tap water, the potato cubes exhibited an average mass change of +7.466%. Next, when placed in a solution with a molarity of .05, the potato cubes exhibited an average mass change of +3.442%. Finally, when placed in a solution with a molarity of .15, the potato cubes exhibited an average mass change of +1.2%. When the potato cubes exhibit an average mass change of 0, it will mean that the sodium chloride concentration is the same, both in the water and the potato. When the potato had a mass change, it meant that the sodium chloride concentration was hypotonic, or lower inside the potato cells than the water. However, as the mass change percentage grew lower and lower, the difference in sodium chloride concentration also grew smaller. When the potato and water have the same concentration, they will be isotonic, which means there is the same concentration both in the potato and in the water. This will not cause the potato to change mass because the potato cells do not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rock Roll had a resurgence, known as The British Invasion . While things had settled down in the US, England had been inspired. This revival propelled the genre down two different paths. Many groups came onto the scene and continued to make more of the same teen appropriate pop style music. others pushed boundaries in an industry heavily influenced by drugs, spawning the phrase, Sex, Drugs, and Rock Roll . The Beatles were at the center of it all, experimenting with different sounds and instruments. Pink Floyd was one of the first bands to use laser lights in their concerts. What s more psychedelic than that? Hendrix even took it a step further, creating what many call Acid Rock. • 13. Hamlet And Hamlet Comparison When comparing two different Hamlet movies I found that one scene in particular was obviously more different than the others. I compared Columbia pictures 1996 version with Kenneth Branagh playing the role of Hamlet versus BBC s 2009 Hamlet in which David Tennant played the honorable role of Hamlet. When comparing both movies I found a lot of similarities but there was one major difference when I compared the To be or not to be scene. The scenes vary in multiple ways whether it is lighting, focus, camera movements, and even the actors that play Hamlet. I first want to dissect the 1996 movie in which Kenneth Branagh plays Hamlet. The To be or not to be scene is clearly one of the most important scenes of the entire movie, so the directors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While both did their job of acting out the scene I believe Kenneth Branagh s 1996 film does a much better job. Kenneth choose to act the scene in a very grand ballroom, which I think was appropriate due to the grandness of soliloquy itself. In the BBC version of the scene Hamlet is shown leaning against a pillar with such low key lighting you can not tell what sort of room he is in. When Hamlet first enters the grand ballroom in the older movie he takes his time to begin speaking which is crucial between the transition between the last scene and the current scene. The length in speech gives the audience the chance to settle in for what they are about to hear. In David Tennant s version he quickly jumps into his speech not leaving much room for transition. The common audience does not understand every word of the Shakespearean language hamlet speaks and may lose interest while Hamlet continues to ramble on. The continued camera movement throughout Kenneth Branagh s movies helps the audience to stay focussed on the movie even if they do not fully understand every word Hamlet speaks. During Gregory Doran s movie, throughout the entire scene there are only two transitions and the camera never moves in either position. This adds to the viewer losing interest, not only are they bored by having nothing in the background to look at, due to the low key lighting, they are bored by the complex English language Hamlet speaks and given only two transitions and no movements to maintain their interest. The first representation of the To be or not to be speech creates multiple plots to further add in maintaining the viewers interest. By placing the king and Polonius behind the two way mirror and having Hamlet walk to the exact mirror creates a sense of urgency that is non existent in the BBC version. For example face, fingerprint, signature, voice etc. Face recognition is a task humans perform remarkably easily and successfully. In face recognition Features extracted from a face are processed and compared with similarly processed faces present in the database. If a face is recognized it is known or the system may show a similar face existing in database else it is unknown. Face recognition has been a topic of active research since the 80 s, proposing solutions to several practical problems. It has been a challenging job for the researchers to develop a facial recognition system with 100% accuracy because of all the difficulties and limitations. As we know that the human face changes after a short period of time so no facial recognition system can work perfectly after a few years. It has to be updated with the latest database images of the person in order to verify the person. Also wearing spectacles, mask, mustaches may also affect the output of the face recognition system. Face recognition is a biometric which is much easier to understand, because we recognize or identify different people mostly by their faces. However the recognition process used by the human brain for identifying faces has not a concrete explanation. It has now become essential to have reliable security systems in ... Though despite their high spirits, the New World was harsh and unforgiving, which made the new colony of Jamestown anything but a success. With countless raids by Native American tribes and the continuing starvation of the colony, Harvard graduate, author, and United States historian, Edmund Morgan elaborates on the failure of Jamestown within his work titled The Jamestown Fiasco . The Englishman s encounters with the Native Americans were almost never mutual or positive. The first encounter with the people of the new world was a defeat at best, the Native Americans drove the Englishmen back upon the ships they had come from, but the English were determined that they would be here to stay. They moved farther down the James River and found a suitable location for settlement. Through poor leadership, however, brought the true demise of the possible friendly relations between the Natives and English unlike their French counterparts further north. The original name for this artwork was The Bath but it was changed four years later. It is an oil painting on canvas and its size is 208cm x 264.5cm (81.9 in x 104.1 in) it is a large painting. The color scheme of dark green, brown and black used to it gives a very earthly sensation. Manet s style of painting was as controversial as his subjects as he... The man towards the left is Ferdinand Leenhof who is his soon to be brother in law, the man on the right is his younger brother Eugene Manet and most importantly the nude woman who left everyone stunned was a female model, Victorine Meurent, who makes another appearance in Manet s other painting Olympia where once again she is the topic of debate. As all the figures were recognizable and were portrayed in an explicit narrative made it even more difficult to be displayed alongside traditional paintings. The painting was rejected by the official French academy in 1863 because it left the salon jury outraged to how the woman is being shown in the nude with no shame at all. Although nude women had always been the subject of classical art the problem here was that she was being depicted as a normal human being. Her body posture seemed relaxed, by slouching it also creates folds on her stomach. The salon did not approve as she was displayed as a regular modern day woman who happened to take her clothes off (you can see her polka dotted dress and hat towards her left) rather than a goddess or mythological creature. Another problem they had was that she is looking directly into the viewer s eyes with confidence and self awareness to which people were not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Federal Budget Process Essay Running head: The Federal Budget Process The Federal Budget Process Abstract This report focuses on the federal budget process of the United States of America. The annual federal budget begins with a detailed proposal from the President in February. The budget request is developed by the President s Office of Management and Budget (OMB). Next, Congress creates a blueprint called a budget resolution that sets limits on how much each committee can spend (or reduce revenues) over the course of the year. The budget typically sketches out fiscal policy and budget priorities not only for the year but for the next five years or more. It is also accompanied by historical tables that set our past budget figures (Policy Basics, 2011 Para 4). The third role that the President s budget plays is that it can be used to alert Congress of what spending and tax policy changes the President recommends. It is not necessary for the President to propose legislative changes for those parts of the budget that are governed by permanent law if he feels none are needed (Policy Basics, 2011). Majority of the federal tax code is set in permanent law, and will not expire. Similarly, more than one half of federal spending including the three largest entitlement programs (Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security) is also permanently enacted. In this experiment, copper (II) sulfate pentahydrate was heated and loss mass, while the anhydrous calcium gained mass. As a result of the loss of 35.16% of water from the copper sulfate pentahydrate, the anhydrous calcium chloride should have gained a higher percent of water from the atmosphere than .64%. Evaluation: The percent error in the experiment was 2.61%. The percent is low because most of the water in the crystals had been driven off. A lower percent error could have occurred if the CuSO4 * 5H2O was heated more. Suggested Improvements: When the lab experiment was conducted, the copper sulfate pentahydrate was placed inside the casserole. If the casserole was heated before the hydrate was place in it, then the water that might have been in the casserole prior to the sample being added would not be included in the hydrate.
