  1. An Online Program Evaluation Proposal by Denise Bennett
  2. Easton Area High School is a large, multicultural high school located in Easton, PA. Our current enrollment is approximately 2800 students. Recently our district has been trying to cut teachers and programs because of budgetary restraints so an online Program would be beneficial to our district.
  3. The first reason Easton should adopt online courses is that we would be able to offer the programs or classes that the district is trying to drop such as various AP courses and various elective classes. The second reason is to improve our student drop-out rate. There are numerous students who elect to drop out of traditional school because of bullying, anxiety and social disorders, needing to go to work to support their family or countless other reasons. Finally, it will also allow students to set their own pace and work at their convenience.
  4. I will evaluate the following criteria:Instructor, Course Content, Student, Assessment, and Technology.
  5. Teachers, students, parents, principals and board members will evaluate the online class before, during, and after students have enrolled.
  6. In the Instructor Evaluation we will be looking for the teachers contact information, if they are available to meet with students for office hours and whether or not they provide constructive feedback in a timely fashion.
  7. The Course Content will be evaluated by looking at the syllabus and objectives and seeing if they are clearly defined, easy to understand and follow. They will also evaluate the modules for the class to make sure they are set up in a logical order and directly related to the curriculum.
  8. Student Evaluation will occur through a variety of assessments for different ability levels that are directly related to the course objectives. The teacher will use descriptive rubrics that are easy to understand and follow. Finally students will use peer reviews to evaluate each other when working in groups.
  9. To evaluate the assessments given teachers will use a variety of methods such as forums, blogs, chats, papers, and projects. There will be a rubric to match the assessment as well as a manageable timelines for students to follow so they can complete the course in a timely manner. A final assessment will be a self-reflection on each assignment.
  10. Technology is a major factor of an online course to work. Students need to have access to technology. The links or resources must be up and running and functioning properly. Any technological issues need to be resolved in a timely manner.
  11. IN closing, online classes are the wave of the future, it is a cost savings method of districts. It is student centered so students will work at their own pace and parents can be more involved in their students education since it will be happening from home. But most importantly online students are still attending the same high school as traditional students so they have have the same privileges awarded to them.
