Working Title:
Running Rat
Audience:
My audience will be around the age of 7-16 year olds and I will not be aiming at any gender in specific.
The social status will be middle class as I imagine my game being more successful as a mobile game. I
think my game will attract people of these statistics as it can be played with an objective in the levels
mode or as an endless runner so it will never get boring. I will try and make the animation style as
cartoon as possible with pixels as I personally like this style and I also think that it will make it easier to
appeal to my demographic. I don’t think that it will appeal to any gender in specific as it’s not a gory and
more violent game which may seem more suitable for males and its not a makeup game or anything
such as that so it wont appeal to females any more than males.
The game is just a fun game with vibrant colour to attract a younger audience and all genders will
hopefully have fun playing it. The reason I said it may appeal more to middle class is because it is a
mobile game which will most likely have in-app purchases so people with better phones and maybe a bit
more money than others may find it easier to play.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
I started the year with no animation knowledge or skills with Photoshop. I then did the Irn-Bru project and
made the advergame, which helped me learn most of everything, I know and use today. I use those skills
by applying them to any task I come faced with in Photoshop animation. My advergame was on a side
view so this may help me with character design and scene design. Also in my game were objects moving
rom left to right, which will also be happening a lot in my new game. The only problem I may face is
making it look like the rat and cat are running with their legs, as I used no leg movements in my other
game.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
The concept is a runner from left to right, where you play as a rat getting chased by a cat. The aim is
either to reach the end of the level, collect all 5 of the cheese items, or there is also the option to play in
an endless runner mode. Their will be a demonstration of all of these types of levels in my finished
animation. There will also be a selection of skins to choose from for the cat and the rat. The player will
also be allowed to select from a range of maps and there will be a new soundtrack for every map and the
selection screens. I will need to look into other games like this and look at how the collection of items
works and also the system of currency as I am going to make some of the skins purchasable. I will also
look into certain features such as the shop screen and game loading scenes.
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
To evaluate my work I will compare it to existing products and see if it would work well with the audience
of that game and compare the mechanics. I will also ask some peers to asses my product and give
feedback. I will also go through it myself and critique what I could do better. This will develop my skills as
I will know what improvements I need for the next project.
