The Monkey s Paw And The Keys Of Destiny Analysis
In both stories The Monkey s Paw and The Keys of Destiny they prove that money isn t the
source of happiness. Even though they have the same theme the two authors get this theme across
in two completely different ways. With the story The Monkey s Paw the author uses the death of
Herbert (the son of one of main character) to reveal the theme, while in The Keys of Destiny the
author uses the keys of destiny to get the same effect. The main reason that the themes are
presented differently is because of the craft moves that are being used. For example, in The
Monkey s Paw the author W.W. Jacobs used revealing actions and in The Keys of Destiny the
author Neil Philip uses symbolism.
The main factor in the different ways that the two authors got the theme across was the craft
moves. In The Monkey s Paw W.W. Jacobs uses revealing actions to get the main theme across.
In the story one of Mr. White s friends tried to throw out a mummified paw of a monkey because
he claims it was cursed. Disregarding that it was cursed and can cause consequences if he uses it
he asks for money which he would regret later in the story. W.W Jacobs shows this when he writes,
I wish for two hundred pounds, said the old man distinctly. (1.5) this quote is just the first action of
where he wishes for the money the revealing part comes later when the Whites obtains the money.
The revealing action is when the Whites hear about the death of their son that goes back to their
wish for money,

Essay on Disk Jockeys
Disk Jockeys
In today s modern world the DJ has become a musician; the turntable, his instrument. It took
fifteen years for this amazing resolution. DJ s have actually been around for years; mixing and
scratching however, it did not come along until the late 70 s or early 80 s ( Disc Jockey 1 ). A lot of
people were doing this. But the main front line man was and still is Granmasterflash.
Granmasterflash, one of hip hop s founding fathers and the creator of the Quick Mix. He was the
first person to change the arrangements of songs by using duplicate copies of records and manually
editing/repeating the climatic part by rubbing the record back and forth ( Grandmaster Flash ). But
now the DJ has changed. The kinds of DJ s are different, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For some DJs this includes talk and games, while for others it means spinning the latest and greatest
to the hippest people in town.
The equipment that is needed to start out to be a DJ is two turntables. DJ s will also need a scratch
mixer. The DJ will need some cartridges/needles. He will also need a good pair of headphones. DJ
s would definitely have to vinyl or records ( DJ Equipment ).
There are two types of turntables. There are belt drive turntable and a direct drive turntable. Belt
driven decks work by a big rubber band linking round a motor, then round the underside of the
deck plate. The motor makes the band rotate, which in turn makes the plate turn. On direct drive
decks, however, the motor is placed in the center of the deck, which turns the center spindle of
the deck directly instead of a rubber band linking the motor. Right now the best turntable on the
market is the Technics SL 1200 Direct Drive Turntable. The SL 1200 Turntable has a pitch lock
button. The pitch lock button has the ability to change the tempo of a song without changing the
pitch. This lets drastically speed up songs with vocals without a chipmunk effect. The SL 1200
also has quartz pitch blend control. The pitch blend control is the effect of the temporary changing
of pitch to get beats in phase. Club DJs typically use their fingers to speed up or slow down the
record by pushing/pulling the record by the label. Some twist the spindle in the center to

Marketing Strategy Of Web 2.0
In 2005 the launch of WEB 2.0 changed the whole scenario of marketing strategy and and a new
chapter was added in the marketing books area as the web 2.0 introduced a new concept of virtual
consumer where the power balance was shifted into the hands of modern day customer
Organizations were applying a new approach according to which they have to focus on customers
need and what an individual customer wants .With the help of this powerful tool WEB 2.0
organization could pay attention over the perception of cutomer regarding the service or product
the organization was providing
The main power shifter was customer s feedback which he or she can openly express on social
media sites or blocks which can work in favor of organization or could damage the organization
reputation as social media was spreading and reaching people on the most remote locations of the
globe notwithstanding most of the big organization were still not sure what web 2.0 does and
people divided their opinion as its just another tech hype or could be next big thing.

Essay Slough by Sir John Betjeman
Sir John Betjeman s poem, Slough, opens with a wonderful, dramatic stanza. There is huge tension
between the ideas of cows grazing and the idea of death. Even in the opening line there is conflict
friendly bombs is a contradiction in terms, as bombs are almost never thought of as friendly, and
Betjeman s use of this defines what a bad place. Another tool Betjeman employs is rhythm; the
stanza is at a steady, predefined paceuntil the last line where the rhythm is broken with the word
Death , which gives a powerful image of Slough.
In the second stanza, Betjeman cleverly compares people s minds and breath to tinned products,
giving everything a feeling of sanitised dullness, without fresh air. He also uses the form here, listing

It also has an elegant form.
In the fourth stanza, Betjeman repeats always in the second line which implies the fact that it is
this man s way of life. He also uses this man with double chin as a way of expressing all the
people who have this attitude and life, and the image of washing with women s tears is extremely
effective.
Every line in the next stanza opens with And , which makes it seem rather like a list, a list of the
poet s demands. Indeed the entire stanza is simply stating things which he demands be done to this
man.
The poem changes tack after this: it speaks of sparing clerks. There is tension simply in using the
description bald young . The rhythm again breaks at the harsh phrase They ve tasted Hell .
The next two stanzas continue the description of these bald young clerks . There is a comparison
between birdsong and the radio , two things which would generally be contrasted. In the last two
lines Betjeman introduces a wonderful tranquil image of looking up and seeing the stars, but then
dispels it with the disgusting line But belch instead .
The ninth stanza is a bit like a throwback to the canned breath it speaks of chemicals and synthetic
things. It discusses peroxide hair and painting nails, poking fun at them.
The final stanza concludes the poem. The opening line is the same as the opening line of the first
verse and it reminds us of the aims of this whole poem and of the subject, Slough. It is aiming

Nozick s Version Of Libertarianism
Nozick s version of libertarianism says that what is controlled in society should be limited to
what are the essentials to keep society together. A majority of the services and basics that people
require to live can be provided by the private sector and not by the state that lead to unjust in the
distribution of goods and services. The services that should be left to the government according
to Nozick s belief are those of security such as the police and military and the enforcement of
common laws. These services are the basic essentials to what society needs to function with the
most liberty being passed on to the people. The private sector which consist of the majority of the
population will be the determining factor in deciding how services should be best executed to fit
their needs and desires. In terms of distribution Nozick believes that redistribution is unjust for the
reason that it is forced labor on the working people who in most cases do not consent to the
redistribution of their wealth. Nozick states in his view on Libertarianism that People have the right
to Liberty which in this case people should have the liberty to choose how their earnings are
distributed. Furthermore, according to Nozick, Libertarianism should reject the redistribution of
personal wealth. This statement is focus more of the earnings of people. Having a state that has an
uncontrolled power over the distribution of one s wealth can result in a structure that allows others

How to Wire a Doorbell
Anyone can wire a doorbell if he follows these steps and safety precautions. Modern day doorbells
use transformers to supply power to the circuit. One can wire up a doorbell if they use safety
precautions, follow instructions, and the proper materials to wire it with.
Take safety precautions by using the correct tools which includes screwdrivers, wire
strippers, electrical contact cleaner, fine sandpaper, rubbing alcohol, and a cotton swab or old
toothbrush although door bells don t use much voltage(Brooks). Make sure to turn off the circuit
breaker that supplies power to the old doorbell. Even though most doorbells are wired with a low
voltage transformer, there is still the danger of electric shock. Safety first always check to see if
the circuit breaker is in the tripped position if it is try resetting and the check the buttons to see if
the doorbell will ring if not turn off the power to the doorbell and and disconnect the hot and
neutral wires from the doorbell transformer leave the wires hanging so they are not touching
anything and turn on the circuit again also to stay safe by wearing rubber soled shoes and using
tools with rubber handles(1).
Choose an accurate position of where the doorbell button and receiver will be placed and position
the button at a level where family members can reach it also position the receiver where it can be
heard from anywhere in your house therefore follow the manufacturer s instructions for mounting

When people hear the term gold rush it is automatically associated with California. The first, gold
rush was in Cabarrus County, North Carolina. This was a tremendous impact due to people
rushing to the Carolina s mountains. People flocked from all neighboring states to strike rich. The
second, was in Georgia a three ounce nugget was found. Miners began to search in every cave for
gold. The third, gold rush was in California. Flakes of gold were found in the Sacramento Valley.
The population expanded to 100,000. Locals benefited from the mast flock of miners. People have

their dreams to strike it rich. The women were left behind to work on the land and to take care of
their children. Thousands of people rushed to California and known as the 49 s. A very small
amount of women were able to travel along with their husbands. Many of them spent their entire
live savings to make the journey. The influx of miners came from all over the United States. The
news was also heard all over the world and migrants from Peru, Panama, and as far as China
traveled in ships to achieve their destination. At first there were only two ways to reach
California. Many endured the six months long trip to California. One way was the Oregon Trail
and the second was through ships. People who lived on the east coast of the United States chose
the Oregon Trail and it was a harsh journey. The constant fear due to hostile territory and also the
illnesses caused a great deal of stress for them and the wear and tear of their wagons. The other
way people traveled sea using ships and this was also a six months trip. They had to travel all the

Summary Of J. Smart s Extreme Vs. Restricted Utilitarianism
J.J.C. Smart
Who is J.J.C. Smart and what does he teaches us about utilitarianism? However, after reading
Extreme vs Restricted utilitarianism by J.J.C. Smart, we can tell that there s two kinds of
utilitarianism s. The first one is extreme utilitarianism. The second one is restricted utilitarianism.
However, in my opinion extreme utilitarianism is the right act. In addition, Smart was the defender
of extreme utilitarianism. These are mainly what J.J.C. Smart talks about in his work. First and
foremost, after reading Extreme vs Restricted utilitarianism by J.J.C. Smart, we can tell that these
two kinds of utilitarianism s are somewhat similar but not as much. First, he opens by separating

However, Extreme (ACT) utilitarianism follows rules of thumb and their guidelines. In other words
Smart states that rules of thumb promote particular actions that are very important to people. In
addition, according to Smart, rules of thumb can be broken. These are all the interesting facts about
rules of thumb and what they are and what they mean. To wrap it all up, according to smart, the
main difference between extreme and restricted utilitarianism is that restricted utilitarians hold that
conformity to rules determines right action and extreme utilitarians do not. In addition, according
to extreme utilitarianism, if someone does a morally right action, then they do not commit
themselves to one version or another. On the other hand, smart mentions moral rules and how they
are rules of thumb; well what he means by that is that rules of thumb are rules that can be useful
but do not always tell us what we should do. I will now talk about my opinion about both
Restricted and Extreme utilitarianism s. To me they are very much similar and there is a very little
difference between both theories. I say that because when it comes to both articles, at the end they
both promote the most utility for the majority. In other word they both go there different way but at
the end of the day they are both the same thing and not much of a difference is

...he really thought they did fire to defend themselves. The Bloody Massacre was a killing of five
people and six others were wounded. A more commonly known name is the Boston Massacre. This
was also a key event that led to the start of the Revolutionary War. The Boston Massacre occurred
on March 5th, 1770. It was a street fight between American colonists and British soldiers. American
colonists were outraged about the Townshend Acts of 1767, which was an act that allowed the
British to tax the Americans on paper, led, and tea. The British wanted to keep a tight control over
the Americans, so they passed the Quartering Act, which stated that American colonists had to
house British soldiers. Around two hundred colonists surrounded the British soldiers before the
fight occurred. After taunting from the colonists, a British soldier fired into the crowd. An African
American sailor, named Crispus Attackus, was killed first. Samuel Gray, James Cauldwell, Samuel

Essay about Scholarly Articles vs. Non-Scholarly Articles

and non scholarly articles. Both Articles have the same information about Alcohol. The
difference between the two articles shows if the article is real as well as which quotes are from
other people that relates to the articles. The two articles that I will be using are from WebMD

college students typical drinking and celebrating drinking. Typical drinking is when a person has

A non scholarly article also doesn t have a conclusion because it is not an experiment in any way.
For instance, the last line in the article states, The new educational campaign based on this

the warning signs of high risk drinking (WebMD). This article is probably written by an editor or
a free lance writer. The second article is a scholarly article because most scholarly articles are
journal articles. The second article is from Journal of American College Health. This article was
very strong because of evidence towards the information that is given in the article. The second
article has an abstract as well as a conclusion that introduce the situation as well as the results. An
example of an abstract is the purpose of the study was to determine whether students consume
alcohol in greater quantities when drinking in celebration of an event or holiday versus typical

The Voice of Reason in Tartuffe by Jean-Baptiste Poquelin...
Jean Baptiste Poquelin Moliere wrote Tartuffe during the beginning of the Age of Enlightenment.
One of the main characteristics of the Age of Enlightenment was a push towards using reason over
emotions to make decisions. The leaders of the enlightenment truly believed that the world could be
made a better place if people did this. In Tartuffe, when the characters use their emotions to make
their decisions they find themselves in undesirable situations. While those who let their emotions
rule them find their lives spinning out of control, there are other characters in the play who try to
approach them with reason and logic. Out of these characters the lady s maid Dorine stands out as
the voice of reason.
There are several stock characters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I m far less awed;/ In fact, I see right through him. He s a fraud. (I.1.69 70) Dorine s blunt words
carry more weight than the other characters in this scene for several reasons. Dorine represents
the average person more than anyone else in the play. She is not highly educated like Cleante and
she did not have the upbringing that the other characters did. For someone in her position, a lady s
maid, to see the truth so clearly, it exaggerates the absurdity that Orgon and Madame Pernelle do
not. In Dramatic Justice in Tartuffe, Myrna Kogan Zwillenberg wrote, To be sure, MoliГЁrehas
taken the precaution of signaling such incidents by having the servant Dorine express her
exaggerated moral outrage, a significant device which pinpoints the areas meant to be ridiculous.
(Myrna Kogan Zwillenberg 1)
It seems that Moliere was more than likely making a statement with Dorine s character, that
anyone can use their common sense. It does not take a college education or fine upbringing to
see through the mask that some people present themselves with. Dorine was his way of
encouraging others to see what lies are right in front of their face. The play was very
controversial for the time it was written in, and in fact had to be rewritten in order for it to be
performed. Moliere also had to petition for permission for Tartuffe to be performed. There are
several political views hidden in the lines.

Teach Vocabulary Analysis
Vocabulary plays a crucial part in a child learning to read. A student that has limited vocabulary
often prevents them from comprehending the text that he or she reads. Students that do not read
well often times read less because they find that reading is tough and frustrating. Since these low
level readers do not read enough their vocabulary does not improve. Unfortunately, as the student
continues through schoolthe gap between good readers and poor readers widens tremendously.
Teaching vocabulary to students is vital to the growth of student s comprehension level. I found
by teaching vocabulary to my students they tend to use the words frequently once they had a
concrete understanding of the word. I also found that if my students could not relate to the word
that was being introduced many times it was harder for them to learn the word. Therefore, it was
imperative for me to always provide a description, explanation and example to all vocabulary
words that was introduced. In the video How to Teach Vocabulary Acquisition ( ), many of the
strategies that were introduced to the viewer such as asking students to restate in their own words,
having students create a picture or symbol for the vocabulary word and allowing students to

population of around 2,241,400. Paris is a very historical city, founded in the 3rd century BC by

Descriptive Essay On Bowling
It was dark and rainy outside, we were just in for a good time, yet we had no idea what was in for
the future ahead of us. Myself and a few other friends were at the bowling alley in Glenwood
Iowa, for no specific reason, just to have a good time with each other. It was the middle of
summer and who knew this was going to be one of the scariest nights of our lives.
It s your turn to bowl! Alyx exclaimed to me. Everytime I go up to bowl I wait for the same ball to
come out of the ball shoot every single time, it s bright red and only has 3 little holes for my fingers
to go into. As I went up to bowl, I grabbed my lucky ball and rolled it down the path like a slippery
snake, STRIKE! Right after I had gotten my strike, the bowling alley got a telephone call saying
there was a shooting nearby in town. Everyone got a little panicked, but we continued with our
fun night of bowling. Kamryn, Kennedy and Tommy all bowled and got their scores. It was
starting to get darker outside when all of a sudden we heard gunshots outside of the building,
just as loud as when you hear an airplane taking off. The gunshots were one right after another, 4
in a row. *boom boom boom boom* they went in the air. Everyone went to look outside and all
of a sudden a dark shadow wearing all black clothes was starting to walk up to the door, it was
still about 100 feet away, but it was getting closer, and fast. Get into the bathroom, now! The

Hardness And What Impact Does It Have On Water Quality
1. What is hardness and what impact does it have on water quality?
Hardness is the amount of dissolved calcium and magnesium in the water. Hardness impacts on
water quality throughout the aesthetic acceptability by consumers (meaning the concentration of
the calcium and magnesium and other dissolved solids are measureable by the consumers). In
addition to, economic and operational considerations (which is controllable throughout the
treatment or blending in public drinking water), hard water tends to leave scale deposition in the
water distribution system, as well as in heated water applications. (Hardness in Drinking water,
2011).
2. What water quality standards are associated with water hardness?
There is no Primary or Secondary standard for water hardness by EPA. Also hardness has no health
risk. As the hardness of water is classified: 0 to 60 mg/ as calcium carbonate is classified as soft; 61
to 120 mg/L as moderately hard; 121 to 180 mg/L as hard; and more than 180 mg/L as very hard.
(Water quality criteria. (n.d.).
3. Briefly describe your understanding about pH and why is pH important in water treatment. Give

Analysis Of Mccloskey s On Being An Atheist
In McCloskey s (1968) article On Being an Atheist , the arguments for the existence of God are
rebutted and some compelling reasons are given in order to enlighten some other atheists who
might be struggling to defend their beliefs. Firstly, McCloskey (1968) opens his discussion by
asserting that the three main proofs (teleological, cosmological, and argument from design) of God
s existenceare not the basic nor the right proofs with which to arrive at a vague (p.51) conclusion
that states the existence of a necessary being. These proofs have not been considered by the
serious theologians, but instead, they have been the excuse of the parson (McCloskey, 1968).
However, McCloskey misses the point made by such arguments by assuming that such defenses are
a definite proof of the existence of God. To regard something as a proof, one must know that the
argument being made is certain and incorrigible, but the arguments made by the theist are said to
be defeasible, not incorrigible or certain (Foreman, 2012). This mean that the arguments can be
regarded as true unless a defeater, which if it were true, would defeat the argument (Foreman,
2012). Then, if the classical arguments used by the theist to advocate for God s existence are
defeasible and not proofs as McCloskey claims, and no defeater has been shown to be true, there is
no need to abandon such arguments.
Secondly, McCloskey discusses the cosmological argumentand states that there is no reason for

Eagle Scout Research Paper
Road to Eagle Scout Have you ever wondered about what it takes to become an Eagle Scout? It
takes a lot of hard work and completing requirements to earn the title of an Eagle Scout.
Although the work is hard, the joy found in being a scout member is unmeasurable. Being a boy
scout is a very rewarding experience. Historically, boys who have earned the title of Eagle have
been proud of it for years to come. In Boy Scouts, there are six ranks to complete before you are
eligible for Eagle Scout. The first rank to earn is Scout. This rank is the easiest rank to earn.
Then Tenderfoot and Second Class are the next two ranks to earn. These ranks focus a lot on the
basic life skills such as first aid, tying knots and how to pack effectively for camping trips. The next
rank is First Class, this rank opens up a lot of activities the Boy Scout is able to participate in.
Reaching First Class is a great accomplishment for a scout to acquire. Star and Life are the last two
ranks to earn before being eligible for Eagle. Star and Life ranks are mainly focusing on leadership
roles and merit badges. Once all of these ranks are complete then a scout can begin... Show more

Typically, once a month the troop holds a camping event. The boys pack up and head out to

Leadership is a big part of scouts. The program encourage and help equip boys to communicate
effectively and take leadership roles in various situations. Most troops hold weekly meetings and
most of the meetings are Boy Scout lead. The adult leaders are there for guidance but the boys
typically lead the meetings. The boys look forward to summer camp each year. Camps are fun
because the boys work on learning life skills through merit

Flashback In To Kill A Mockingbird
Have you ever heard of someone or first met someone and they seem awful but once you get to
know them they are actually a good person, I know I have. In this passage we get to see how
scout is starting to get to know Boo. Boo and Scout are in the hospital and Jem has just gone to

asks Scout if she will take him home and she does. In the final scene from To Kill a Mockingbird

Pocket Shark Research Paper
Second Possible Specimen of Pocket Shark Discovered
Sharks are some of the world s most dangerous and efficient predators, known for dominating the
oceans for millions of years. Thanks to movie classics like Jaws they are often exclusively
perceived as large, powerful, killing machines, but the truth is sharks come in a wide range of
shapes and sizes. Recently, scientists found the carcass of what s considered the smallest shark in
the world. The distinctive pocket shark was discovered off the Gulf Coast, and is the second
specimen ever found.
It s called a pocket shark not because it can fit in your pocket, but because this rare species (known
by the scientific community as Mollisquama) come equipped with two pockets next to its front
fins. Information about this rare shark find was recently published in Zootaxa, and researchers at
the Biodiversity Institute at Tulane University worked with representatives from NOAA to
positively identify the species, as there has only been one discovery of Mollisquama in history. ...

Even the purpose of its dual pockets is unknown.
The pocket shark we found was only 5 and a half inches long, and male, said Mark Grace of
NOAA Fisheries laboratory in Pascagoula, Mississippi. The shark s unhealed umbilical scar
indicates it was only recently born, a point that raises questions about its birth place and the
location of its parents. The other pocket shark was found 36 years ago off the coast of Peru,
while this infant was found in Gulf of Mexico. This leaves a lot of unanswered questions for
researchers like Grace, who have little information on the range Mollisquama occupy, or where they
breed and

The Influence Of Abraham Lincoln On The Mexican American War
Abraham Lincoln opposed the Mexican American War, since he argued it was unnecessary and
unconstitutional. He questioned the U.S. president s honesty and even accuses the president s
justification to be from beginning to end, the sheerest deception. Furthermore, he criticizes the
president for supporting the war with arguments and not facts. He also bashes on the president s
mentality on a personal level. Moreover, Abraham Lincoln argues that President Polk is lying
about the initial cause of the war in which the casualties took place. 2)What evidence does Lincoln

1)Thesis (What is the author s main argument in the article). Gregg Cantrell informs the reader
that Stephen F. Austin is a very complex individual who is taken out of context. Stephen F. Austin
is a human being who is misunderstood by many and is seen as a racist, invader of land, and a
white supremacist, since he was a proponent of the Manifest Destiny. Furthermore, he believed that
his mission was to spread the American ways such as enterprise and intelligence. People mistook
his declarations and blew them out of proportion. For this reason, he was also seem as pro
American chauvinism when he made a negative statement about the Catholic Church. However,
when a person views Stephen F. Austin whole story, it is very different from the one they
acclimated to. Austin, served as a political and cultural mediator between Anglo Texans and
Mexicans. Furthermore, he was a person who wanted personal success, but also had a strong sense
of public responsibility. 2)Evidence (What evidence does the author use to support the thesis of the
article.) Stephen F. Austin s title was empresario, which means entrepreneur, a person who has been
granted to recruit settlers, issued land titles, enforce the laws and take responsibility for new
settlers. Austin learned to speak fluent Spanish, conducted business in Spanish, and was personally

Futility Of Revenge In Hamlet
George Bernard Shaw claims that Hamlet exemplifies the Christian ideal of the futility of revenge.
While some people may agree with this thought, Hamlet s story for revenge does not validate that
idea that revenge is worthless. The act of Hamlet seeking revenge is not what dooms him to failure,
as Shaw would suggest; instead it is Hamlets own inability to properly complete his task. Hamlet
has not evolved into an example of the idea that two wrongs do not make a right. Hamlet was
simply a bad murderer, and this is shown through: his crudely constructed plan, his constant
procrastination, and his role as the lone revenger of his father s murder. For the beginning, Hamlet
is not a very vengeful person. Though he is upset at his mother s marriage, he just seems to sulk
and does not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His reasoning, though likely sound during that time period, just seems rather silly, A villain kills
my father; and for that, I, his sole son, do this same villain send to heaven. (Hamlet II.ii) Hamlet
believes that if he kills Claudius while he is praying he will go straight to heaven, and Hamlet
insists that When he is drunk asleep, or in his rage... Then trip him, that his heels may kick at
heaven, and that his soul may be as damn d and black as hell, whereto it goes. (Hamlet II.ii) But
little does Hamlet know that just after he leaves, Claudius says to himself, My words fly up, my
thoughts remain below: words without thoughts never to heaven go. (Hamlet II.ii) If Hamlet had
not wasted his precious time thinking about how he wished to kill Claudius, and simply slain him
there, most of the problems that arise later in the play would have been avoided. In this scenario,
Polonius lives, Ophelia does not become mad, Gertrude lives, and Laertes never has a reason to
return home. If Hamlet had simply killed Claudius when he had the chance, everything would have

Essay on Messages Revealed in Annie Dillard s, An American...
In An American Childhood by Annie Dillard, Dillard reminisces on her many adventures
throughout her childhood living in Pittsburgh. Her stories explain her school, her home life, her
family, and growing up. Dillard also talks about changes in her life, and how they affect her, and
how she felt about others around her. One s childhoodis a crucial part of life, because it s a time of
learning more than any other time of life. Childhood is a time of curiosity and realization. What
you learn in your childhood has a big impact on how you make decisions and act as an adult. One
message that I found while reading An American Childhood is that life is sometimes not what it
seems. Annie Dillardexplained this concept when she said, The... Show more content on

I would not let this happen to me. (Dillard, P.26) She had realized how people s youthful
appearance deteriorate as they aged. It kind of scared her, because she didn t want it happening
to her. Another difference Dillard observed was religion. She disliked the Catholic
schoolchildren, because she was afraid of their beliefs. She expressed thoughts on how uptight
the religion was compared to her own when she said Whatever the pope said, I thought it was no
prize, it didn t work, our Protestant lives were much sunnier, without our half trying. (Dillard, P.
33). She also talked about changes in Pittsburgh s appearance. City workers continually paved the
streets, They poured asphalt over the streetcar tracks, streetcar tracks their fathers had wormed
between the old riverworn cobblestones, cobblestones laid smack into the notorious nineteenth
century mud. This message is important because after childhood, you start to grow more aware of
the world around you, which is a big change. Children are often oblivious to changes, but as you
get older, you notice how things change more up close and personal. Throughout An American
Childhood, Dillard expresses how significant history of various subjects are. We children lived and
breathed our history our Pittsburgh history, so crucial to the country s story and so typical of it as
well without knowing for believing any of it.

Frumherj is a car inspection company in Iceland. They are one of the largest in the country, but

inefficiencies in their process that must be addressed before they can meet their goals. One of their
first problems is maintaining an even flow in their process environment. Due to the nature of the

If the company can make every base take the same amount of time, they will experience less
delays as less cars are stopped waiting for the next base to open up. There is very little
correlation between the KPIs and the process map. They KPIs are focused on measurements such
as market share, customer satisfaction surveys, and comparisons to competitor s prices. None of
the KPIs focus specifically on improving the process so there are no practical, actionable items
that the employees can focus on. Without the employees being able to see how they fit in the plan
to increase the company s performance, they can t possibly begin to innovate new ways to improve
the process. Management by means seeks to find each individuals place within the system and to
continuously improve the system. In MBM systems the employees help the management improve
by offering design improvements, and the managers, in turn, use this information to optimize the
system. The problem is not that the company doesn t have admirable goals, but rather their
process isn t capable of producing the desired results. The goals and KPIs are bold and admirable,
but they are not relatable to the process that will ultimately determine their outcome. The system
will produce what it produces; you can t get more out of a system than it is capable of making.

Memi And Sabu And The Seated Statue Of Gudea
The Royal Acquaintances Memi and Sabu and The Seated Statue of Gudea are two historic
statues dating back 2000 years B.C. that have been displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of
Art in New York City. The subjects represented in both statues display a strength in human
relationships. They also both bear emotional and physical similarities. Memi and Sabu and
Gudea also have many differing characteristics such as their medium and historical value. This
essay will further describe the similarities and differences between The Royal Acquaintances
Memi and Sabu and The Seated Statue of Gudea. The Royal Acquaintances Memi and Sabu is
constructed of limestone. Limestone is an organic sedimentary rock composed of skeletal
fragments of marine organisms such as coral and mollusks. It is very common and is still
frequently used in architecture and art. It is long lasting and stands up well to exposure.
Landmarks such as the Great Pyramids were constructed of limestone (Cassar, 2010). The seated
Statue of Gudea is sculpted of diorite. Diorite is the traditional base material in the construction
of roads and parking areas. It is considered difficult to sculpt with because of its hardness and
variable composition. For those reasons, it is not a stone often used by sculptors nowadays. It was
popular among ancient sculptors of the Middle East (Diorite, n.d.). The Royal Acquaintances
Memi and Sabu and The Seated Statue of Gudea are similar in size but still relatively small in size.

Detrimental Effects Of War In A Separate Peace
World War II was a very life changing event that demonstrated how much friendships and
everyday people could change due to war. One particular novel set during the era of this war
proves this point well. In the novel, A Separate Peace by John Knowles, Gene, Finny, and Leper
have their own distinct symbols. Gene symbolizes envy and jealousy, Finny embodies kindness and
hope, and Leper symbolizes the detrimental effects of war. Throughout the novel, Gene symbolizes
envy and jealousy, especially towards Finny. In the middle of chapter 2, Finny and Gene were

Leper was affected from the war. Even though he doesn t admit it, his body language when he is

He was more like an outcast. In addition, in chapter 10 when Gene is visiting Leper after he

Basically the higher the speed of a vehicle, the more difficult collision avoidance becomes and
the greater the damage if a collision does occur. Speeding is defined as the act or an instance of
driving, especially a motor vehicle, faster than is allowed by law. Speeding is often one
component of aggressive driving which is defined as committing a combination of moving
traffic offenses so as to endanger other persons or property. There are strong direct relationships
between the speed at which we drive and the risk of crash involvement and the injuries sustained
if a crash results. The probability of injury and the severity of those injuries increases
exponentially with vehicle speed. Even small increases in speeds result in a large increase in
the forces experienced by the vehicle occupants or other road users. Put simply, the faster you
drive, the harder you hit and the more severe the injuries you or someone else are likely to suffer.
Traveling over the speed limit can be especially dangerous in bad weather conditions. Speeding

Threat Analysis On The Server Administration
Threat Analysis
Threats to the Server
1. Poor Server Administration
Server administrators are required to maintain a broad range of security safeguards in order to
secure a server. While backups are a valuable tool, it is not a replacement for preventative measures
meant to protect the server. If the administrator is not diligent or sufficiently knowledgeable they
can introduce a broad range of security issues. When an administrator does not configure and
monitor logs, an attack in progress can be missed, as well as reviewing any evidence left behind
after an attack to develop new procedures to block future incidences. Failing to implement a patch
policy for the system and software installed can leave the server open to attack. Server
administrators who do not change settings from default settings also leave the server open to
unused services that are not needed being left open, and default passwords in place.
2. Misconfigured Security
When security settings are not implemented properly or secured correctly attackers can exploit
these settings. This can mean default accounts being compromised, exposing the systems files, and
data. Authentication settings and user privileges on the server can be misconfigured giving
incorrect settings and allowing privilege creep as well as privilege escalation on the server.
3. Insecure Website settings
As the website is a component of the server, and is a public facing entity, it serves as a potential
door for attackers when

Creating A Safe And Inviting Classroom Environment Essay
In order to provide a safe and inviting classroom environment, students must be valued, appreciated,
and respected. Promoting diversity in the classroom allows students to explore different languages,
experiences, ethnic differences and the cultural perspectives of their classmates. Developing this
type of environment is equally as important as the classroom standard, and is often seen in schools
with an increased bilingual population. The school where I am currently working has a high
Hispanic bilingual population, and proves to me how diversity in the classroom can still breed
success.
The Andrew T. Morrow Elementary School philosophy builds on a foundation promoting
inclusivity with the goal to marry cultural diversity with the classroom pragmatic. For this, each
student regardless of origin and/or language is given an equal opportunity to succeed in each
academic subject. Having observed in a classroom of eight year olds, nearly half of the class was
bilingual. Interviewing the lead teacher (quotes throughout are direct responses from the lead
teacher) gave me a better perspective on how her bilingual classroom operates. Before formally
recording who these children were, I noted how the physical classroom setting supported
multiplicity. Posters, bulletin boards, and a multi lingual library are only a few of the ways this
teacher fostered cultural diversity. Newssheets, field trip forms and school activity letters were (all)

Transgenderity And Transgenderism
In today s society the Christian Church is being strongly criticized because of their stance on
homosexuality and transgenderism. Some Christians have chosen to remain silent on the issue
while others have decided to scream their distaste for homosexuality in the faces of others. Some
Christians have fallen into the trap of false teachings and believe that who you are and who you love
is out of your control, and no one should have to suppress their desires. Regardless, the Word of
God is crystal clear when describing what romantic relationships should look like and how to
approach others who disagree with that. It is most important that Christians know the Word of God
so that they can stand up for the truth.
Morgan Guyton s The Christians United Statement in Support of LGBT Inclusion, presents rather
perplexing theology. To open the article, Guyton condemns the statements made by the members
of the Council of Biblical Manhood and Womanhood advocating for traditional, heterosexual
marriage. He then goes on to examine, or more accurately agree with, the ideas laid out by the
Christians United organization. One of the main ideas given by the Christians United organization
is that all people are created in the image of God, and that God, as stated in article 1, is not limited
to a gender binary, of male and female (Guyton). While God may or may not be limited to that
binary, His creation certainly is. Genesis 1:27 does state that man is created in the image of God,

information and communication technologies and the apparent excessive dependence on
technology. There has been a significant revolution in the manner in which human communication
is handled. The conventional methods of sending messages have been replaced by the use of
portable computer devices. Mobile phones have become cheaper and even more advanced with
possibilities never imagined before. The users of these devices have become so accustomed and
even addicted to them so much that life seems unbearable if they happen to lose the devices.
Social media platforms have come up and people now share ideas real time with the use of these
avenues. Communication across the globe has depended greatly on the

Pedal Research Paper
The pedal is a body part located at the distal end of your legs. It s primary usage is for standing
and balance while moving. The pedal has the ability to remold itself to a person s walking gait.
This means that the structure of everybody s pedal in the world is a little different. Your pedal is
what allows you to stand, and keep your balance when walking and running. The leg connects to
the pedal to form the joint referred to as the ankle. The ankle is a joining between the two lower
leg bones, the tibia and fibula, and the talus bone of the pedal. This joining at the ankle joint is
what allows you to move your feet superiorly and inferiorly. The movement in one plane means that
it is a hinge joint. The movement of your feet laterally and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This could be catastrophic to your walking gait, as high heels reshape your feet to counteract the
slope heels put your pedal on. High heels shift your center of balance forward. This means less
weight is going to be put on the heel of your pedal, and more weight is going to be put on the ball
and on the phalanges of your pedal. Your tarsal bones will shift and your arch will change.
Consistently wearing high heels can also affect the structure of your legs and lower back. The shift
of your weight to the tip of your pedal means that your center of balance shifts forward as well. This
leads to numerous problems throughout the inferior portion of the body. A study conducted by Neil
Cronin from Griffith University found that women who consistently walk in high heals rely on
their muscles, not their tendons, to walk. This finding, coupled with the fact that optimal muscle
tendon efficiency occurs when the muscle stays approximately the same length while the tendon
lengthens , shows that heels create a less effective walking gait that requires you to expend more
energy. High heels put your feet in a constant plantar flexion which means that the Achilles Tendon
is always contracted. So, when you do take off your high heels your calf will burn, your knees will
ache. This is because the Achilles Tendon is attached to the calf muscle, which in turn connects to

Comparing the Techniques Used by the Writers to Create a Sense of Fear and Tension in The
Black Cat, The Red Room and The Yellow Wallpaper
Short stories like The Black Cat , The Red Room and The Yellow wallpaper , which were all
written during the pre 1914 s, were used as popular entertainment during the 19th 20th century. At
that time there was no television. Today, if we wanted to be entertained by something with similar
horrific content we could watch a film on TV, however, in the late 19th century this role had to be
filled with the short story. The social context at the time was male dominant and a woman was
expected to stay at home looking after the children and cleaning while the man went ... Show more

All three of the narrators write in first person, showing it as a personal experience to make the
reader feel more involved. This builds fear and tension because you can sense the build up of
emotions and imagine being in the narrators place. For example, in The Yellow Wallpaper the
narrator says I get unreasonably angry with John sometimes expressing her anger emotion, so
we feel more involved. She says that her anger is unreasonable but really it is not because she
has the right to be angry with him as he locks her up all the time and won t even let her see her
baby. Although all three of the stories are written in first person they are written differently, for
example in The Yellow Wallpaper the narrator builds all the fear and tension herself, whereas, in
The Black Cat the narrator brings outside influences into it, for example, the black cat and the
narrator s wife influence some of the fear and tension. In The Black Cat and The Red Room the
narrator is male and both males are quite dominant, but in The Yellow Wallpaper the narrator is
female and is overpowered by her husband. This means that a lot of emotional tension is built in the
story.
At the beginning of The Black Cat and The Red Room the respective

The Theme And Themes Of Skellig By Hans David Almond
I read a book called Skellig over the summer vacation. Skellig is written by David Almond, which
won the Hans Christian Andersen Awards in 2010. Hans Christian Andersen Awards is the
highest international recognition given to an author and an illustrator of children s books.
David Almond grew up in a Catholic family in Felling on Tyne with four sisters and one brother.
He loved writing since he was a child and dreamed of publishing his own book. In his interview, he
revealed that his baby sister died when he was only 7 years old. His father also passed away when
he and his sisters and brothers were all young. His mother was always serious with arthritis. He
said that this was his childhood, and it provided everything he needs as a writer,... Show more

From the reviews on Amazon, I found out that people who only gave 1 star tend to say the story
was so boring. They felt confusion when reading Skellig because the story was moving on slowly.
The really interesting part did not start until about 40% of the way in. Also, the story has too
many themes and ideas mixed together, such as the ill baby, the neighbor girl that is home
schooled, and the human like creature in the garage. By having too many themes and ideas, it
makes too many mysterious parts, so that it is hard to understand what is going on. Plus, there
are not so many action, so for people that likes to read a action books, might dislike Skellig. On
the other hand, the people who gave 5 stars on the Amazon reviews said that there are a lot of
mysterious parts in the story, and that allows your imagination to expand and makes you want to
guess what is going to happen next. They say that the novel is great for adults too, even it is a
children s book. Therefore, it will be good for reading aloud with your family. The chapters are
short, so it is easy for children and intermediate readers too. I found it easy to read Skellig, rather
than reading novels with really long Chapters. The story has characters with unusual
characteristics for children s books, so you can enjoy a different taste. One review said that if you
have some big or small questions about life, this book might help you find the answer. As a result,
I enjoyed reading this novel, and I will recommend you to read

Black Gum Disease Research Paper
Many people have experienced periodontal disease, which is a disease of the gums and surrounding
tissues. These conditions include gingivitis and periodontis and can be treated with good hygiene
and proper dental care. Black gum disease, or necrotizing periodontal disease, however, is an
uncommon but serious form of gum disease that requires immediate treatment. The disease kills the
gums, tissues and bones that surround the teeth and can be indicative of serious health problems.
What are the Symptoms of Black Gum Disease?
The symptoms of this serious disease normally present rapidly, which is why it is often known as
acute necrotizing periodontal disease, and it may bring a sudden onset of:
black gums or tissue deep ulcers at the edge of

  • 2. The Monkey s Paw And The Keys Of Destiny Analysis In both stories The Monkey s Paw and The Keys of Destiny they prove that money isn t the source of happiness. Even though they have the same theme the two authors get this theme across in two completely different ways. With the story The Monkey s Paw the author uses the death of Herbert (the son of one of main character) to reveal the theme, while in The Keys of Destiny the author uses the keys of destiny to get the same effect. The main reason that the themes are presented differently is because of the craft moves that are being used. For example, in The Monkey s Paw the author W.W. Jacobs used revealing actions and in The Keys of Destiny the author Neil Philip uses symbolism. The main factor in the different ways that the two authors got the theme across was the craft moves. In The Monkey s Paw W.W. Jacobs uses revealing actions to get the main theme across. In the story one of Mr. White s friends tried to throw out a mummified paw of a monkey because he claims it was cursed. Disregarding that it was cursed and can cause consequences if he uses it he asks for money which he would regret later in the story. W.W Jacobs shows this when he writes, I wish for two hundred pounds, said the old man distinctly. (1.5) this quote is just the first action of where he wishes for the money the revealing part comes later when the Whites obtains the money. The revealing action is when the Whites hear about the death of their son that goes back to their wish for money, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Belt driven decks work by a big rubber band linking round a motor, then round the underside of the deck plate. The motor makes the band rotate, which in turn makes the plate turn. On direct drive decks, however, the motor is placed in the center of the deck, which turns the center spindle of the deck directly instead of a rubber band linking the motor. Right now the best turntable on the market is the Technics SL 1200 Direct Drive Turntable. The SL 1200 Turntable has a pitch lock button. The pitch lock button has the ability to change the tempo of a song without changing the pitch. This lets drastically speed up songs with vocals without a chipmunk effect. The SL 1200 also has quartz pitch blend control. The pitch blend control is the effect of the temporary changing of pitch to get beats in phase. Even in the opening line there is conflict friendly bombs is a contradiction in terms, as bombs are almost never thought of as friendly, and Betjeman s use of this defines what a bad place. Another tool Betjeman employs is rhythm; the stanza is at a steady, predefined paceuntil the last line where the rhythm is broken with the word Death , which gives a powerful image of Slough. In the second stanza, Betjeman cleverly compares people s minds and breath to tinned products, giving everything a feeling of sanitised dullness, without fresh air. He also uses this man with double chin as a way of expressing all the people who have this attitude and life, and the image of washing with women s tears is extremely effective. Every line in the next stanza opens with And , which makes it seem rather like a list, a list of the poet s demands. Indeed the entire stanza is simply stating things which he demands be done to this man. The poem changes tack after this: it speaks of sparing clerks. There is tension simply in using the description bald young . The rhythm again breaks at the harsh phrase They ve tasted Hell . The next two stanzas continue the description of these bald young clerks . There is a comparison between birdsong and the radio , two things which would generally be contrasted. In the last two lines Betjeman introduces a wonderful tranquil image of looking up and seeing the stars, but then dispels it with the disgusting line But belch instead . The ninth stanza is a bit like a throwback to the canned breath it speaks of chemicals and synthetic things. It discusses peroxide hair and painting nails, poking fun at them. The final stanza concludes the poem. The opening line is the same as the opening line of the first verse and it reminds us of the aims of this whole poem and of the subject, Slough. It is aiming ... • 19. Analysis Of Mccloskey s On Being An Atheist In McCloskey s (1968) article On Being an Atheist , the arguments for the existence of God are rebutted and some compelling reasons are given in order to enlighten some other atheists who might be struggling to defend their beliefs. Firstly, McCloskey (1968) opens his discussion by asserting that the three main proofs (teleological, cosmological, and argument from design) of God s existenceare not the basic nor the right proofs with which to arrive at a vague (p.51) conclusion that states the existence of a necessary being. These proofs have not been considered by the serious theologians, but instead, they have been the excuse of the parson (McCloskey, 1968). However, McCloskey misses the point made by such arguments by assuming that such defenses are a definite proof of the existence of God. To regard something as a proof, one must know that the argument being made is certain and incorrigible, but the arguments made by the theist are said to be defeasible, not incorrigible or certain (Foreman, 2012). This mean that the arguments can be regarded as true unless a defeater, which if it were true, would defeat the argument (Foreman, 2012). Then, if the classical arguments used by the theist to advocate for God s existence are defeasible and not proofs as McCloskey claims, and no defeater has been shown to be true, there is no need to abandon such arguments. Secondly, McCloskey discusses the cosmological argumentand states that there is no reason for believing that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Pocket Shark Research Paper Second Possible Specimen of Pocket Shark Discovered Sharks are some of the world s most dangerous and efficient predators, known for dominating the oceans for millions of years. Thanks to movie classics like Jaws they are often exclusively perceived as large, powerful, killing machines, but the truth is sharks come in a wide range of shapes and sizes. Recently, scientists found the carcass of what s considered the smallest shark in the world. The distinctive pocket shark was discovered off the Gulf Coast, and is the second specimen ever found. It s called a pocket shark not because it can fit in your pocket, but because this rare species (known by the scientific community as Mollisquama) come equipped with two pockets next to its front fins. Information about this rare shark find was recently published in Zootaxa, and researchers at the Biodiversity Institute at Tulane University worked with representatives from NOAA to positively identify the species, as there has only been one discovery of Mollisquama in history. ... • 25. Futility Of Revenge In Hamlet George Bernard Shaw claims that Hamlet exemplifies the Christian ideal of the futility of revenge. While some people may agree with this thought, Hamlet s story for revenge does not validate that idea that revenge is worthless. The act of Hamlet seeking revenge is not what dooms him to failure, as Shaw would suggest; instead it is Hamlets own inability to properly complete his task. Hamlet has not evolved into an example of the idea that two wrongs do not make a right. Hamlet was simply a bad murderer, and this is shown through: his crudely constructed plan, his constant procrastination, and his role as the lone revenger of his father s murder. For the beginning, Hamlet is not a very vengeful person. Though he is upset at his mother s marriage, he just seems to sulk and does not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Hamlet II.ii) But little does Hamlet know that just after he leaves, Claudius says to himself, My words fly up, my thoughts remain below: words without thoughts never to heaven go. (Hamlet II.ii) If Hamlet had not wasted his precious time thinking about how he wished to kill Claudius, and simply slain him there, most of the problems that arise later in the play would have been avoided. One s childhoodis a crucial part of life, because it s a time of learning more than any other time of life. Childhood is a time of curiosity and realization. The subjects represented in both statues display a strength in human relationships. They also both bear emotional and physical similarities. Memi and Sabu and Gudea also have many differing characteristics such as their medium and historical value. This essay will further describe the similarities and differences between The Royal Acquaintances Memi and Sabu and The Seated Statue of Gudea. The Royal Acquaintances Memi and Sabu is constructed of limestone. Limestone is an organic sedimentary rock composed of skeletal fragments of marine organisms such as coral and mollusks. It is very common and is still frequently used in architecture and art. It is long lasting and stands up well to exposure. Landmarks such as the Great Pyramids were constructed of limestone (Cassar, 2010). The seated Statue of Gudea is sculpted of diorite. Diorite is the traditional base material in the construction of roads and parking areas. It is considered difficult to sculpt with because of its hardness and variable composition. For those reasons, it is not a stone often used by sculptors nowadays. It was popular among ancient sculptors of the Middle East (Diorite, n.d.). There are strong direct relationships between the speed at which we drive and the risk of crash involvement and the injuries sustained if a crash results. Poor Server Administration Server administrators are required to maintain a broad range of security safeguards in order to secure a server. While backups are a valuable tool, it is not a replacement for preventative measures meant to protect the server. If the administrator is not diligent or sufficiently knowledgeable they can introduce a broad range of security issues. When an administrator does not configure and monitor logs, an attack in progress can be missed, as well as reviewing any evidence left behind after an attack to develop new procedures to block future incidences. Failing to implement a patch policy for the system and software installed can leave the server open to attack. Server administrators who do not change settings from default settings also leave the server open to unused services that are not needed being left open, and default passwords in place. 2. Misconfigured Security When security settings are not implemented properly or secured correctly attackers can exploit these settings. This can mean default accounts being compromised, exposing the systems files, and data. Promoting diversity in the classroom allows students to explore different languages, experiences, ethnic differences and the cultural perspectives of their classmates. The school where I am currently working has a high Hispanic bilingual population, and proves to me how diversity in the classroom can still breed success. The Andrew T. Having observed in a classroom of eight year olds, nearly half of the class was bilingual. Your pedal is what allows you to stand, and keep your balance when walking and running. The leg connects to the pedal to form the joint referred to as the ankle. The ankle is a joining between the two lower leg bones, the tibia and fibula, and the talus bone of the pedal. High heels shift your center of balance forward. This means less weight is going to be put on the heel of your pedal, and more weight is going to be put on the ball and on the phalanges of your pedal. Your tarsal bones will shift and your arch will change. Consistently wearing high heels can also affect the structure of your legs and lower back. The shift of your weight to the tip of your pedal means that your center of balance shifts forward as well. This leads to numerous problems throughout the inferior portion of the body. A study conducted by Neil Cronin from Griffith University found that women who consistently walk in high heals rely on their muscles, not their tendons, to walk. This finding, coupled with the fact that optimal muscle tendon efficiency occurs when the muscle stays approximately the same length while the tendon lengthens , shows that heels create a less effective walking gait that requires you to expend more energy. She says that her anger is unreasonable but really it is not because she has the right to be angry with him as he locks her up all the time and won t even let her see her baby. Although all three of the stories are written in first person they are written differently, for example in The Yellow Wallpaper the narrator builds all the fear and tension herself, whereas, in The Black Cat the narrator brings outside influences into it, for example, the black cat and the narrator s wife influence some of the fear and tension. In The Black Cat and The Red Room the narrator is male and both males are quite dominant, but in The Yellow Wallpaper the narrator is female and is overpowered by her husband. • 44. The Theme And Themes Of Skellig By Hans David Almond I read a book called Skellig over the summer vacation. Skellig is written by David Almond, which won the Hans Christian Andersen Awards in 2010. Hans Christian Andersen Awards is the highest international recognition given to an author and an illustrator of children s books. David Almond grew up in a Catholic family in Felling on Tyne with four sisters and one brother. He loved writing since he was a child and dreamed of publishing his own book. From the reviews on Amazon, I found out that people who only gave 1 star tend to say the story was so boring. They felt confusion when reading Skellig because the story was moving on slowly. The really interesting part did not start until about 40% of the way in. Also, the story has too many themes and ideas mixed together, such as the ill baby, the neighbor girl that is home schooled, and the human like creature in the garage. By having too many themes and ideas, it makes too many mysterious parts, so that it is hard to understand what is going on. Plus, there are not so many action, so for people that likes to read a action books, might dislike Skellig. On the other hand, the people who gave 5 stars on the Amazon reviews said that there are a lot of mysterious parts in the story, and that allows your imagination to expand and makes you want to guess what is going to happen next. They say that the novel is great for adults too, even it is a children s book. Therefore, it will be good for reading aloud with your family. The chapters are short, so it is easy for children and intermediate readers too. I found it easy to read Skellig, rather than reading novels with really long Chapters. The story has characters with unusual characteristics for children s books, so you can enjoy a different taste. One review said that if you have some big or small questions about life, this book might help you find the answer. As a result, I enjoyed reading this novel, and I will recommend you to read ...
