Meet the MaastrichtMBA class of 2015. LEARN, GROW AND NETWORK
IN THE HEART OF EUROPE
The MaastrichtMBA is a joint initiative of
Maastricht School of Management (MSM)
and Maastricht University School of Business
and Economics (SBE).
The MaastrichtMBA is fl exibly available both for
full-time and part-time participants. The full-time,
residential format of the MaastrichtMBA has been
developed for managers and entrepreneurs with at
least three years of postgraduate work experience, who
have a passion for the challenges of managing and
leading organizations in a multicultural, global context.
The program combines the latest management thinking
with practice and applied research, with an emphasis
on leading and managing in multicultural settings.
The program is ranked #2 in the Netherlands according
to Eduniversal’s Best Masters ranking, internationally
accredited by NVAO, ACBSP, IACBE and AMBA, and
draws on MSM’s 60-year experience in management and
business education. It was one of the three nominees for
the Nuffi c Orange Carpet Award in 2014, in recognition
for its contribution to the internationalization of higher
education in the Netherlands. And MSM won the 3rd prize
in the prestigious MBA Innovation Award competition
organized by the Association of MBA’s (AMBA).
Graduates from the program have assumed leading
and challenging positions in the private and public
sectors, and have successfully started their own
entrepreneurial ventures.
DEVELOPING GLOBAL
LEADERSHIP SKILLS
Global and multicultural leadership skills are vital assets
for today’s managers. Joining the MaastrichtMBA class
will challenge participants to develop their management
skills in a diverse, international and multicultural
environment. The more than two dozen nationalities
represented in a typical class of the full-time, residential
format of the MaastrichtMBA create a stimulating
learning environment inside and outside the classroom.
This will help participants develop their global and
multicultural leadership skills and expand their global
network. Maastricht’s proximity to other major European
countries and MSM’s global network of partner
institutions, including partnership of the Global Business
School Network (GBSN), only add to our attractiveness
as an international management school.
RESPONSIBLE MANAGEMENT
MSM subscribes to high ethical standards in business
and strongly promotes corporate social responsibility
(CSR) and sustainable development. We subscribe to
the Principles for Responsible Management Education
(PRME). With CSR and business ethics constituting an
integral part of the MBA curriculum, participants will be
trained to become a responsible and effective manager.
STONG LINKS TO BUSINESS
COMMUNITY
Pursuing an MBA degree is not only about management
thinking and case studies. Our strong links to the business
community will give participants exposure to the best
companies and organizations in

The Innovative Agriculture for Smallholder Resilience (iNASHR) project (Egypt) was implemented over 3 years during which there was the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to instability in farm prices and uncertainties in water availability.
Despite this, 18 teams of Entrepreneurs for Rural Access (ERAs) serving as digital extension service providers were able to reach more than 60,000 people in rural communities between 2021 and 2023.
Three specially commissioned “farmer-to-farmer” style training videos were produced (see at the bottom of this blog post),
and 60 other relevant Access Agriculture videos were translated into Arabic and shown to farmers.
These active service providers, half of whom are women, used a solar-powered smart projector to reach communities where access to power supply, internet connection and mobile phone signal can be challenging.

‘How is the African insurance industry responding to climate change?’Francois Stepman
6 June 2023. ‘How is the African insurance industry responding to climate change?’
https://paepard.blogspot.com/2023/06/how-is-african-insurance-industry.html
The insurance industry is exposed to the risks of climate change and that risk is increasing. Insurers should be aware of these risks and the potential impact on their business. A 2019 global survey [With Climate Impacts Growing, Insurance Companies Face Big Challenges] found that 72 percent of insurance companies believe climate change will affect their business, but 80 percent of them have not taken significant steps to lessen climate risks. Moreover, insurance companies invest the money from the premiums they collect in the financial markets. They have $582 billion invested in fossil fuels investments that could be devalued as climate risks increase.
As natural disasters become more frequent and more costly, insurance companies are facing big challenges. If insurers are to weather the storms ahead, they’ll need to make some changes. The insurance industry needs to make substantial changes to deal with its own climate risks. Some of these changes could also enable insurance companies to help speed the transition to a net-zero society.

How are African banks coping with Climate ChangeFrancois Stepman
16 May 2023. This webinar discussed how climate-related risks threaten the functioning of banking institutions as well as the stability of the financial system.
Climate change and climate policy affect the balance sheets and business models of banks in different ways. African banks are vulnerable to the increasing frequency and severity of climate change shocks. They are also increasingly aware of the importance of adopting green financing principles, seeking to address risks and more importantly, to grasp new opportunities.
However, only 17% of banks have so far introduced specific green financing products, and these are estimated to account for only 2-20% of their portfolio . The webinar discussed how climate-related risks threaten the functioning of banking institutions as well as the stability of the financial system. The discussions also shed light on initiatives of banks to implement sustainable practices and central banks to create an enabling environment for sustainable finance drawing on international best practices.

«The activity of E4Impact Foundation is a
contribution to SDG 2030, since we enhance
the sustainable development of emerging
countries by favoring the formation of impact
entrepreneurs and the internationalization
of companies mainly in Africa. Supporting
entrepreneurship means sustaining both

ecosystem of enterprises, universities,
institutions and entrepreneurial actors which increases the probability
that a new venture will survive and then improve the conditions of
the Country itself.»

«In the emerging countries there is an
enormous need for impact entrepreneurs:
individuals that operate in all industries
with great attention to the social and
environmental consequences of their
actions. Our MBA, which in each country we
offer in partnership with a local University,
offers a unique experience to these
people by enabling them to improve their
entrepreneurial skills while continuing with
their daily job. The part-time formula, the
networking moments, and the coaching and mentoring activities are
all features that make our program different from what is currently

E4Impact Foundation was launched in 2015 by Securfin, Mapei,
Salini-Impregilo, the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore and the
Association Always Africa to enhance the sustainable development
of fast-growing economies by assisting the formation of impact
entrepreneurs and the growth of their businesses.
The work of the Foundation contributes to the pursuit of many of the
Social Development Goals 2030 set by the United Nations, including
those related to quality education, decent work, economic growth
and poverty and hunger reduction.
The Foundation has inherited the mission pursued since 2010 by ALTIS
– Graduate School Business and Society of the Università Cattolica
del Sacro Cuore of Milan (Italy), of which it is a spin-off.
To achieve its goal the Foundation, in collaboration with Università
Cattolica and a local university from the host country, offers the
Global MBA in Impact Entrepreneurship.
The MBA is a unique executive program that guides active and
aspiring entrepreneurs in starting or scaling their businesses, providing
them simultaneously with an academic and business acceleration
experience.
The first MBA was offered in Kenya in 2010. Since then E4Impact has
expanded to Ghana, Sierra Leone, Uganda and Côte d’Ivoire, with
more than 200 entrepreneurs under training and 186 already trained.
In 2016/2017 the program will also reach Tanzania, Senegal and
Ethiopia.
The Foundation also supports the expansion of African and European
SMEs in the sub-Saharan area. By matching them with reliable local
entrepreneurs, E4Impact offers small businesses a low cost, low risk
opportunity to enter African markets in countries where the MBA is
offered.

P Coaching can be enhanced by involving local and international
mentors with experience and expertise in the specific industries
The specific classrooms can be offered and managed at a national
or continental level, and can be structured to include weeks of
intensive focus on particular subjects. Lessons may be led by experts
from Africa or elsewhere.
Currently the Foundation is developing the following industry focuses:
P Agribusiness
P Renewable Energy
P Green Business and Blue Economy
P Education and Culture
To accomplish this, E4Impact Foundation has established partnerships
with the following institutions:

About our MBA
“E4impact MBA has imparted much to me and my profession. I started the program with only one business
idea and thanks to our coach, mentors, lecturers and facilitators I now have two additional business
projects, which are all running smoothly. It’s a practical program and I can confidently say that I’m now
a "born again social entrepreneur” with new ideas and strategies to make meaningful impact in my
community and Ghana at large.”
Stephen Fosu - MBA Ghana, Class 2013/14
“Enrolling in this MBA was one of the best decisions I could have taken. It helped me bridge the gap
between the idea and the reality of my desire of bringing some change in the world we live in. This MBA
ensured that I have the necessary skills to drive value and impact in my entrepreneurial activities.”
Ronita Ghosh - MBA Kenya, Class 2014/15
“The MBA brought a paradigm shift in my way of running my enterprise and I changed my business
model to cut out unnecessary costs. The pitching sessions and coaching enabled me refine my skills. The
linkages and being invited to pitch before investors is great and the students are able to work on their
competencies. During a pitch to open capital the feedback was great and enabled me to refine my
business. The mentorship process has been great since the coaches work with you from where you are
and develop the process that enables you to achieve your goals. ”
Keneth Ndua - MBA Kenya, Class 2015/16
