Develop Your Entrepreneurial Mindset
EMLYON Business School is recognised as the
European frontrunner in the field of entrepreneurship,
and this has a strong impact on the International MBA
programme. The capacity to identify, evaluate, and
exploit opportunities, take initiatives and get things
done is what will make you a successful leader in
tomorrow’s global business environment. This is valid
whether you plan to work as a high-level manager
within an existing company or are planning to set up
your own.
Throughout this programme, you will not only learn
how to identify business opportunities but also acquire
the competencies you need to exploit them profitably.
Acquire the Capacity for Global Success
As a participant in the International MBA programme,
you will benefit from studying, living, and working
with professionals from around the globe, thus
enhancing your ability to work with and lead
international and intercultural teams.
To optimise the experiential learning methods
implemented at EMLYON, a diverse group of
participant profiles and backgrounds is necessary.
The selection process for International MBA
participants ensures that the cohort is both
demographically and professionally diverse.
To enhance your international experience even further,
you will be confronted with global issues by a select
group of international faculty members via courses
offered during the year.
This highly international environment will help you
acquire the capacity for success in a global setting.
It all starts with the Bootcamp from day 1
No formal presentation, conference, classroom. Your first days at EMLYON will be dedicated to working in teams on a Business
Strategy Game – an American reference used by Tilburg University, Berkeley University, Purdue University, Mc Graw Hill, and
INSEAD. A direct call to action to immerse yourself with your cohort and professors.
“I chose the MBA at EMLYON for one
reason: the focus on entrepreneurship
and I really wasn’t disappointed.”

THE ENTREPRENEURIAL
LEADERSHIP PROJECT
Develop leadership skills competencies
through action
Research proves that developing leadership capabilities
through complex, competency-based project
experiences greatly increases the chance that new
learning will be applied and sustained.
In line with the programme, you are required to
undertake an Entrepreneurial Leadership Project
(ELP).
The ELP places participants into a real project with
an enterprise. The International MBA team identifies
potential project sponsors in companies, start-ups,
associations, government, and non government
organisations. Each project places participants in a
situation in which they are responsible for gathering
support and resources to transform the project into
reality. Projects can include the development of new
products or services, new market opportunities and
entry, as well as innovative process improvements.
In short, the project puts the entrepreneurial spirit
at the center of numerous types of organisations.
Each project is coached by a member of the faculty,
whose role is to help the team deliver its project. The
faculty coach guides the team towards a solution,
accelerating the entrepreneurial learning process.
This is a learning development opportunity not to be
missed.
Our sponsors
Changing year after year, and carefully selected to match the
class. Firms hosting projects have included:

A few examples of projects
In addition to industry variety, themes of the projects also
represent a wide range such as:
l Assisting start-up activities
l Analysing the feasibility of a new product development
l Searching for opportunities in emerging markets
l Analysing internal innovation processes
l Improving the international scope of public services
l Producing opportunity assessments, business plans and
pilot deployments
l Developing a “shadow management” strategy
“My ELP was extremely rich in all respects.
The findings of this project are fully
applicable to my present job.”

EMLYON hosts International events featuring
Entrepreneurship
Participants of our International MBA will have
outstanding access to this cutting-edge empirical
research in progress aiming to significantly advance
the field of entrepreneurship. The RENT (Research
in Entrepreneurship and Small Business) conference,
established as a major international research conference
in entrepreneurship organised by EIASM and ECSB
(The European Council for Small Business and
Entrepreneurship), took place on our European campus
in November 2012, and welcomed 250 world class
researchers, policy makers and practitioners.
In June 2013 EMLYON welcomes the Babson College
Entrepreneurship Research Conference.
Founded by Babson College in 1981, BCERC is
considered by many to be the premier entrepreneurship
research conference in the world. Frontiers of
Entrepreneurship Research papers contain the
proceedings of the conference and are the most
comprehensive collection of empirical research papers
on entrepreneurship.
International Competitions experience
Share your project with the best worldwide
Business Plan Competitions. Within the
entrepreneurship and innovation courses, you will work
on group projects to develop an idea up to a business
plan. Seminars will help you select the ones with
potential and the best team and project will be selected
to compete in an international challenge. Last year, our
participants took part in the American Venture Labs
competition.
Alongside the University of Texas at Austin Mc Combs
School of Business which hosts the competition,
the team selected met a high profile jury including
incubators managers, attorneys, entrepreneurs, funders,
and new venturers.
The outcome is an outstanding experience (learning
process by doing, teamwork), not only for the winners
but for all the teams involved.
Example of projects that reached the final stage of the
competition:
l a provider of advance Commodity and Energy
Trading Risk Management software
l a SaaS web and mobile portal with access to unique
telecom industry specifics database
l a cloud-based virtual social application

will also benefit from learning trips and international
exchanges.
LIVING GLOBALIsATION
Explore Alternate Business Models with the
Learning Trips*
International Learning Trips offer you the opportunity
to discover different management styles and cultures
and explore contextual factors. Each destination has
specificities and you will never have the same approach
or agenda, depending on the country visited:
l Europe: a European Learning Trip is also undertaken
every year for you to discover a complementary
vision of Europe alongside the French one: past cities
have included Brussels, Stuttgart, Istanbul, Milano
and Finland (Oulu and Helsinki).
Company visits and classes at partner universities
provide you with an opportunity to explore alternate
business models and broaden your view of global
business in different cultures.
l Shanghai: a period to experience China, meet
alumni, partner firms, and have dedicated insights on
the Asian business environment.
l Dubai Doha: another period to learn from high
growth economies and familiarise yourself with this
part of the globe. As 80% of the population from
the Emirates are non-natives, you will meet the
Ministry of Economic Development, local funding
networks and local OSEA ANVAR to understand
how regulations and the market work there. This
Learning Trip is shared with MBA participants
from the Brazilian FIA business school which again
enlarges your horizons.
Enlarge your horizons with the International
Exchanges
The objective of the exchange programme, in addition
to its cultural interest, is to allow participants to take
management courses that complement their EMLYON
studies and further increase their value on the job
market. It also provides an excellent opportunity to
expand your professional network.
Meeting with another institution’s community, the
international exchange enables you to select the
relevant courses and add another vision to your
curriculum. Duration ranges from 1 to 3 months and
decisions should be made by March. Available on four
continents.
Sharing with MBA participants from other
Business Schools
About 150 international participants from partner
MBAs visit EMLYON European Campus to learn from
our professors during what we call Business Weeks,
from April to June. During that time period, you will
be able to attend courses with them, and widen your
international exposure.
MBA participants have come from:
l University of Dallas, USA
l FIA, Sao Paulo, Brazil
l University of Oklahoma, USA
l University of Connecticut, USA
You will also have joint elective courses with French
participants from the Executive MBA.

24 x The final outcome: your Career
“Tomorrow’s leaders are the ones who
understand that their success is about growing
others, nurturing them, and making them
bigger and smarter. They are the ones who
know that their success will come from their
team.”
Eric Bouvier - International MBA 1993
Deputy General Manager, bioMĂ©rieux
“As an international company, we highly
appreciate the intercultural approach of
EMLYON MBA students who moreover
bring their entrepreneurial vision of business,
strongly contributing to the development
of the company. Their strong technical and
management skills also answer to our need for
the recruitment of managers of excellence.”
Marc Jager, recruiter
Group Compensation Benefits Manager,
Arc International
“My MBA was a powerful opener to all
dimensions of business and company life,
and was a very useful complement to my
engineering academics. It increased my
appetite for a multinational career and my
belief in the potential and excitement of a
world getting smaller and flatter every day.”
Jean Pascal Tricoire - International MBA 1986
Chairman of the Management Board CEO,
Schneider Electric
“When I list the key factors that helped
me to evolve from a medical doctor to
President (1700 employees and 500 million
euro of turnover), I mention, without any
hesitation, my participation to the EMLYON
International MBA.”
Christian Seux - International MBA 1982
President, Becton Dickinson

  • 3. The reference MBA for International Entrepreneurship 4 x Develop Your Entrepreneurial Mindset EMLYON Business School is recognised as the European frontrunner in the field of entrepreneurship, and this has a strong impact on the International MBA programme. The capacity to identify, evaluate, and exploit opportunities, take initiatives and get things done is what will make you a successful leader in tomorrow’s global business environment. This is valid whether you plan to work as a high-level manager within an existing company or are planning to set up your own. Throughout this programme, you will not only learn how to identify business opportunities but also acquire the competencies you need to exploit them profitably. Acquire the Capacity for Global Success As a participant in the International MBA programme, you will benefit from studying, living, and working with professionals from around the globe, thus enhancing your ability to work with and lead international and intercultural teams. To optimise the experiential learning methods implemented at EMLYON, a diverse group of participant profiles and backgrounds is necessary. The selection process for International MBA participants ensures that the cohort is both demographically and professionally diverse. To enhance your international experience even further, you will be confronted with global issues by a select group of international faculty members via courses offered during the year. • 4. 6 x The reference MBA for International Entrepreneurship THE ENTREPRENEURIAL LEADERSHIP PROJECT Develop leadership skills competencies through action Research proves that developing leadership capabilities through complex, competency-based project experiences greatly increases the chance that new learning will be applied and sustained. In line with the programme, you are required to undertake an Entrepreneurial Leadership Project (ELP). The ELP places participants into a real project with an enterprise. The International MBA team identifies potential project sponsors in companies, start-ups, associations, government, and non government organisations. Each project places participants in a situation in which they are responsible for gathering support and resources to transform the project into reality. Projects can include the development of new products or services, new market opportunities and entry, as well as innovative process improvements. In short, the project puts the entrepreneurial spirit at the center of numerous types of organisations. Each project is coached by a member of the faculty, whose role is to help the team deliver its project. The faculty coach guides the team towards a solution, accelerating the entrepreneurial learning process. This is a learning development opportunity not to be missed. Our sponsors Changing year after year, and carefully selected to match the class. Firms hosting projects have included: l Adecco l Aderly l April Group l Arc l Colgate Palmolive Company l Dassault System l Internationl Flavors and Fragrances l Louis Dreyfus l Novartis l Pepsico l Plastic Omnium l Stryker A few examples of projects In addition to industry variety, themes of the projects also represent a wide range such as: l Assisting start-up activities l Analysing the feasibility of a new product development l Searching for opportunities in emerging markets l Analysing internal innovation processes l Improving the international scope of public services l Producing opportunity assessments, business plans and pilot deployments l Developing a “shadow management” strategy “My ELP was extremely rich in all respects. The findings of this project are fully applicable to my present job.” Margarita Bolganova, Russian International MBA 2010, General Director Deputy, BLIS LLC do
