The Institute is inspired by the Brazilian National Service for Industrial Apprenticeship, SENAI Institute, whose mission is “To promote vocational and technological education, the innovation and transfer of industrial technologies, contributing to increase the competitiveness of Brazilian industry.”
Dr Maponya was introduced to SENAI Institute during his business visit to Brazil, as a member of the delegation of the South African President, Hon. Jacob Zuma. He remained behind in Brazil, and was introduced to the SENAI Model.
This trip to Brazil and the discussions he held with the Brazilians gave birth to the idea of establishing the Dr Richard Maponya Institute for Skills and Entrepreneurship Development.

The upgrading of workforce skills is key to the competitiveness of SMEs. In today’s business environment there is a premium on innovation that enables firms to develop new products and services, new production processes and new business models. This requires both in-house innovation and the ability to absorb knowledge from other firms and organisations, both of which call for a skilled labour force. Skills are also a critical but understated resource for entrepreneurship seen in the sense of business creation. Similarly to workforce skills, entrepreneurship skills will boost the competitiveness of local businesses thanks to the improved strategic and management competences of the entrepreneur.

COMETSA PMS The LEKGOTLA Way Learning & Development Methodology (18 03 2017)Sam Tsima
There can be many Lekgotla Methodologies. There is, however, only one COMETSA PMS The LEKGOTLA Way Learning & Development Methodology, as presented in this Slideshare.
MONTHLY DIALOGUES The Lekgotla Way, OUR HERITAGE: We have marked the COMETSA 20th Anniversary Celebrations in 2017 with the launch of the monthly COMETSA PMS LEKGOTLA NETWORKS. These take a form of presentations, dialogues, conversations, and questions & answers format facilitated by COMETSA Methodologists, Experts, Associates and Partners. In this fast changing world, it is impossible to remain at the required level of knowledge, expertise and information without formal and forums as part of continuous professional development. As a human capital development and management consulting company we see a need to coordinate and host such networks. Initially these Networks are hosted in Gauteng Province. In the near future we will make these Networks available across the country, in each Province.
By hosting standing monthly LEKGOTLA we ensure that the knowledge created and acquired is consolidated. The participants are also inducted into life-long learning culture. It is for this reason that the participants only receive the COMETSA PMS LEKGOTLA NETWORKS Certificate of Competence & Acceptance after attending six or more LEKGOTLA sessions per year. The participants are also introduced to the Ubuntu Practice of Sharing and Collective Learning. The LEKGOTLA is a Methodology that creates the environment that is conducive for the consolidation of the knowledge and information to take place.
RSVP DETAILS: To enrol and participate in our public monthly LEKGOTLA, contact our administrators Portia Diketane and Tsumbedzo Luvhimbi, at callcentre@Cometsa-GoC.com ; tel +27 11 974 9308 or visit our websites www.SamTsima.com or www.Cometsa-GoC.com

COURSE: The LEKGOTLA Facilitation, Learning & Development MethodologySam Tsima
THE LEKGOTLA WAY METHODOLOGY! We are offering the opportunity for the participants to dialogue and converse with each other at the mini-LEKGOTLAs over breakfast, lunch or dinner sessions, even virtually, depending on the format of the sessions (i.e. face to face or virtual) in small groups. The facilitators introduce the topic, a few insights, and global trends. Each mini-LEKGOTLA appoints its Chairperson who oversees the proceedings., the scribe who captures the deliberations, and the rapporteur who shortly reports back to the main-LEKGOTLA (i.e. the plenary). The facilitators then open the floor for Q & A and general discussions. The African brainstorming concept is the LEKGOTLA concept. The participants demonstrate the highest level of respect for fellow participants of the dialogue and conversation circle. The participant who is on the floor is given full space to raise the issues and is fully listened to by the other participants of the LEKGOTLA. The participants are free to agree to disagree. This is the best African negotiation and conflict resolution mechanism. At the end of the main-LEKGOTLA the Chairperson of the main LEKGOTLA summarises the inputs and facilitates the process to arrive at the resolutions of the session. The main-LEKGOTLA formulates what it views as the resolutions for the participants to consider for further discussions and practical implementation in their own lives, organizations, communities, and enterprises.

The LEKGOTLA Way Learning & Development MethodologySam Tsima
The Origin, Rules, and Modern Relevance: The word Lekgotla is an African word used to describe a meeting of a traditional court, a council meeting or a public meeting. The meeting is chaired by the King, Chief or Headsman and decisions are arrived at by consensus of all present. The set-up would be at the King's Palace, under a tree, in the kraal or in an area set up specifically for the Lekgotla. The Nkosi or Chair holds the King's traditional stick (induku yenkosi) and once in his hand, he is officially on the floor and cannot be interrupted. He introduces the topic to be discussed, and the agenda items. He opens up the "floor" for discussion. Any member of the Lekgotla who wishes to speak must stand up and approach the Nkosi or Chair to reach for "induku yenkosi", return to his seat and then make his input.
The King's role is also to make sure that LEKGOTLA is focused. It is seldom that the LEKGOTLA will tackle more than one agenda item. If there are other matters that are urgent and important, they will be relegated to a separate LEKGOTLA. If these extra topics are falling under the same theme that informs the LEKGOTLA, they will be tackled at the end when the current matters have been fully addressed.
The application of LEKGOTLA in our modern setting requires that all cellular phones be put off or on silence during the meetings. Any expected and urgent call during the meeting should be brought to the attention of iNkosi/Chair. All ipads, tablets and PC's must be off, unless they form part of the agenda and contain documentation pertaining to the meeting. No reading of emails is permitted during the Lekgotla. In order to enable free flow of dialogue during brainstorming and downtime when lighter moments are being shared, the Chair/Nkosi will place "induku yenkosi" down either by his side or at the centre of the table if in a board room format. Members of the team will, however, still respect and allow the person on the "floor" to speak before making a new point.
Coaching is a structured facilitated learning intervention. The coach and the client establish the reason for which they are embarking on a coaching programme together. No coaching should be entered into without the reason being commonly understood. Some clients are referred to coaching by their sponsors, mostly their managers, or parents. However, the coaching programme is always about the client (coachee). It is the client that must formulate the coaching theme, goals, and objectives, assisted by the coach. The coach's main role is to facilitate the formulation process and support the coaching agenda. The coaching agenda belongs to the client.
The much deeper reason for entering into coaching is referred to as the rationale for coaching. This answers the question: what are those issues if we do not embark on coaching would become hindrances to individual and/or organizational development and growth? It is a bigger purpose for coaching intervention.
The LEKGOTLA Facilitation, Learning & Development Methodology (COMETSA)Sam Tsima
The LEKGOTLA Facilitation, Learning & Development Methodology by COMETSA PMS Lekgotla Networks (Pty) Ltd, www.Cometsa-PMS-Lekgotla.com , is a platform and methodology through which we can facilitate any topic to achieve any set goals. So, it is a means to an end. On its own it is not that much helpful, and yet without it, it would be difficult to deliver results of any theme. Whether you want to develop management & leadership teams, facilitate strategic planning session, build sales & business development teams, deliver team coaching & mentorship programme, facilitate team building session, resolve team conflicts, run diversity management & inclusion workshop, conduct employment equity training for the forums, transfer knowledge, etc, the Lekgotla Methodology is the answer. We have trained a big number of Lekgotla Methodology Facilitators, and we are training more. You can attend our monthly public Lekgotla sessions, or book us for the in-house tailor made session at your company/organization. 2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

skills that are in demand and make them employable.

to do something on their own without necessarily wanting to start
their own businesses.
11. Deliverables (cont.)
2016/01/06Dr Richard Maponya Institute
11
Industrialisation: Here we look at the attractiveness of Dr Richard
Maponya Institute in the industry to the learners and the investors who
will support the programme of industrialization. The Institute will not
only focus only on a particular industry but will be a player in multiple
industries.
Global competitiveness: The Institute’s efforts will be devoted to
understanding the needs and skills that are critical to giving them the
edge and awareness of global trends ( critical skill in South Africa might
not be critical globally)
Local Economic Development: The labour market reflects the
availability of particular skills at national and regional levels. This is
affected by training and development. The Institute will impact on
the economy of the county like what the SENAI model did with the
Brazilian Economy.
