INTRODUCTION
INTRODUCTION
Wastes may be defined as any substance which
constitute a scrap material or other unwanted
surplus substance arising from the application of
any process. – EPA, 1990
Wastes may be of 3 types:
1. Solid Wastes
2. Liquid Wastes
3. Gaseous Wastes
INTRODUCTION
Solid Wastes consist of
polythene, paper, steel, aluminum, copper, cardb
oard materials, sludge etc.
Liquid wastes consist of slurry, biomedical
wastes, urine, human wastes, sewage water, toxic
wastes etc.
Gaseous wastes consist of airborne emissions and
effluents that may contain particulate
matter, fumes, smoke, vapor etc. releasing from
industries.
INTRODUCTION
BSCIC elaborates as Bangladesh Small &
Cottage Industries Corporation.
BSCIC was established in 1957.
Its sole purpose is to promote the
development of small, medium and
cottage industries (SMICs) in the
manufacturing sector through the provision
of advisory services, fiscal and financial
assistance, market facilities.
INTRODUCTION
BSCIC, Mymensingh was established on 1st
September, 1968 in Maskanda, central

OBJECTIVES
OBJECTIVES
 To assess the types and amount of wastes that is
generated in the study area.
 To determine the relationship between waste
generation and other variables.
 To assess the present waste management practices in
the study area.
 To assess the environment impact of the generated
wastes.
 To develop a guideline for the betterment of waste
disposal as well as management system for the study
area.
METHODOLOGY
METHODOLOGY
The survey and work plan will be implemented according to following
steps:
1. Study Area:

4. Study Period:
Although some irrelevant information was collected prior to study, the
main information for the study will be conducted from July 2013 to
October 2013.
5. Instruments for Data Collection:
An Interview schedule will be used in order to collect relevant
information from the different industries.
The schedule is carefully designed keeping the objectives of the study
in view.
For easy communication, the schedule is made in both Bengali/English
form.
METHODOLOGY
6. Collection of Data:
Collection of data will be done through direct contact
with industry representative on relevant industry site.
Manager and other stuffs will be interviewed for obtaining
information regarding the product of the industry, waste
generation.
Its management practices and pollution due to the waste.
In order to minimize the error in responses, questions will be
asked in Bengali for easy access.
A Sample of Questionnaire is shown in next slide.
