Tsunami
 A sea wave of local or distant origin that results from
large-scale seafloor displacements associated with large
earthquakes, major submarine slides, or exploding
volcanic islands.
 Earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and other underwater
explosions, landslides, glacier calving, meteorite impacts
and other disturbances above or below water all have the
potential to generate a tsunami.

EARTHQUAKE
 An earthquake (also known as a quake, tremor or temblor)
is the result of a sudden release of energy in the Earth’s
crust that creates seismic waves.
 Earthquakes are measured using observations
fromseismometers.
 The moment magnitude is the most common scale on
which earthquakes larger than approximately 5 are reported
for the entire globe.

POWER SUPPLY
 Step down transformers of 230V primary to 12V
secondary voltages for the +5V power supplies
respectively.
 Stepped down voltage is then rectified by 4 1N4007
diodes.
 High value of capacitor 1000 μF charges at a slow rate
as the time constant is low, and once the capacitor
charges there is no resistor for capacitor to discharge.
This gives a constant value of DC.
 IC 7805 is used for regulated supply of +5 volts in order
to prevent the circuit ahead fromany fluctuations.
PIEZO-ELECTRIC SENSOR
 The Piezo-electric vibration sensor is used to sense
earthquake. We use IC LM358 as a main component.
Sensor is connected to the pin no 3.
MICROCONTROLLER
 The 8051 family of microcontrollers is based on an
architecture which is highly optimized for embedded
control systems.
 It is used in a wide variety of applications from military
equipment to automobiles to the keyboard.
 The AT89S52 is a low-power, high-performance CMOS 8-bit
microcontroller with 8K bytes of in-system programmable
Flash memory.
 The device is manufactured using Atmel’s high-density
nonvolatile memory technology and is compatible with the
industry standard.
Display section
 The display section consists of 16*2 LCD, which used to
display Summary of IC being Inserted and result of test
being conducted.
ENCODER AND DECODER
 An encoder is a device, circuit, transducer, software
program, algorithm or person that converts information
from one format or code to another, for the purposes of
standardization, speed, secrecy, security, or saving space
by shrinking size.
 A decoder is a device which does the reverse operation of
an encoder, undoing the encoding so that the original
information can be retrieved.
