2. A land mine is an explosive device designed to be placed on or in the
ground to explode when triggered by an operator or the proximity of a
vehicle, person or animal. The name originates from the practice of
sapping, where tunnels were dug (much like mining) under enemy
fortifications or forces. These tunnels ("mines") were first collapsed to
destroy fortifications above, and later filled with explosives and detonated.
Landmines generally refer to devices specifically manufactured for this
purpose, as distinguished from improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

3. Landmines are explosive devices that are designed to explode when
triggered by pressure or a tripwire. The purpose of mines when used by
armed forces is to disable any person or vehicle that comes into contact
with it by an explosion of fragments released at high speeds.

4. The exact number of landmines is unknown. However, it is estimated that
approximately 70 million landmines and other unexploded ordnance (UXO)
are buried in more than 80 countries worldwide.
Landmines can remain active more than 50 years after they are planted in
the ground. For this reason, there is a continuing worldwide effort to rid the
world of landmines.
We have designed a project in which we can able to track the position o f the
land mines using the GPS and GSM and a metal detector.
Operation:
The vehicle is fitted with a Metal detector to sense the land mines.
The vehicle will have a GPS Module which will receive the information
from the satlite to know about the position of the vehicle (Lat itude and
longtitude position). The vehicle will also have a Noikia GSM phone which
will send information about the land mines positon to a remote PC through a
cell phone. So that we can know the exact position of the mines.

Microchip's newest dsPIC® Digital Signal Controller (DSC) and PIC24
MCUs offer the performance speed of 40 million instructions per second
(MIPS), selfprogramming capabilities via Flash memory and industrial and
extended temperature ranges. This IC severs as a CPU for the whole system.
Metal Detector
Metal Detector or a Proximity sensor is used to detect the Landmines
and converts that into electrical signal and it is connected to the dsPIC
Microcontroller.
GPS Receiver
ProGin SR-92 is a low-power, ultra-high performance, easy to use GPS
smart antenna module based on SiRF’s third generation single chip. Its low
power consumption and high performance enables the adoption of handheld
applications. The slim design allows SR-92 to be placed on top side of the
housing to have best GPS signal reception. The 5-pin I/O interface is then
connected to the main board with either connector or wire soldering.
GSM Mobile (Nokia 3310)

7. A Nokia 3310 mobile is used as a GSM modem and is used to send
SMS Messages to the remotely located Monitoring unit.
Stepper Driver
This section is necessary to Drive the Stepper motor. Since the signal
from the microcontroller cannot drive the motor directly, it is amplified and
strengthened by the stepper driver section and the signal is applied to the
Stepper motor.
Stepper Motor
A stepper motor is an electric machine that rotates in discrete angular
increments or steps. It is operated by applying pulses of a specific frequency
to the input of the motor. Each pulse applied to the motor causes its shaft to
move a certain angle of rotation, called a stepping angle. This Stepper motor
