Magnolia Therapeutic Solutions Case Study Magnolia Therapeutic Solutions is a well known
nonprofit that provides psychotherapy for clients with Post Traumatic Syndrome Disorder
(PSTD). Magnolia contributed several hours of intensive help to the victims of 911. In return
NYC gave the organization a large grant to help it meet the demands of PSTD services. Mary
Stewart, the founder of the organization believed that the grant given in 2001 would be renewed in
2002 as well. Much to her surprise the grant was not renewed. The grant was already factored into

3).
Causes Behind the Ultimate Problem There were several causes behind the ultimate problems
Magnolia suffered. This seems to have stemmed from the lack of accountability and responsibility
with the financial management. First, Mary had written a budget based on funds that were not
guaranteed. She even based raising money for the organization on higher grants for 2002. Since
the 2002 budget was written on false grants, this caused a huge problem and several staff
members got laid off. This caused the organization to come to a stand still. This problem could
have been solved a few different ways. Either by writing a budget with the grants and funds
Mary knew 100% would be available. Or she could have written the budget with the NYC grant
and had a back up budget incase it was not renewed. This way the board of directors could have
seen either way Mary had a budget that could actually be carried out. Secondly, in 2001 the
organization used the remainder of the grant to increase other administrative services. The surplus
from the grants in 2001 should have been budgeted into the growing organization and the services
provided, not administrative services. The identification of a human service agency s programs, the
creation of a program structure, the assignment of program managers, and the designation of
responsibility centers are the basic building blocks of

Dulce Et Decorum Est Irony Essay
Wilfred Owen exhibits the intense fear of warfare through Dulce Et Decorum Est . Owen
wakens the memories of the passing of one of his allies. He had succumbed to the excruciating
pain of sulfur gas right before Owen s eyes, leaving him traumatized. Dulce Et Decorum Est is an
allegory for bound, ill fated camaraderie. Through the use of oxymora, imagery, and allusion,
Owen is able demonstrate core shaking loss. Using final words of the poem, Dulce et decorum est
pro patria mori, Owen makes an allusion to Roman poet Horace s Odes. The Latin phrase
translates to: it is sweet and fitting to die for one s country. This saying becomes the centerpiece of
the poem s irony. Firsthand experience with war is not sweet nor fitting, here it is

Comparing Eden Medina s Lady With A Lamp
Part familiar, part strange, sometimes comforting, always close to my heart, the sari, a mere cloth
carries so many stories of my family, my culture. Each sari holds weight the weight of love and
commitment. The commitment of a family s legacy as within each sari, a legacy is stored. A
legacy well depicted by my connection to my culturethrough the traditional artwork my family
owns. The relation I had felt with the painting Lady with a Lamp was personal, a similar emotional
attachment is described by Eden Medina in Ballet Slippers . Despite having many other clothing
items related to ballet the footwear is the object of identification which draws the line between
ballet and other styles of dance for Medina (Ballet Slippers). Aesthetically pleasing both the ballet
slippers and the sari carry symbolic power as the sari embraces the woman s body integrated with
their traditional Indian beliefs with the garment s mobility and the slipper embraces the evolution to
more durable hard material which broadened the range of movement the ballerina was expected to
perform (Ballet Slippers).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The girl who I once thought was in her youth in the painting Lady with a Lamp , was actually an
adult a lady wearing a sari. The most auspicious day a woman wears a sari is on her wedding day

have their own scale of hierarchy as one progressed with the skill they progressed with slippers.
Medina evokes the memories as she dreamt of recreating the movements of controlled beauty
characteristic of the dance the same way I dreamt to follow my mother s footsteps and drape her

Discipline and Students with Disabilities Essay
Public Law 94 142: The Education for All Handicapped Children Act of 1975, now called
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), requires states to provide free, appropriate
public education (FAPE) for every child regardless of disability. This federal law was the first to
clearly define the rights of disabled children to receive special education services if their
disability affects their educational performance. A parent of a special education student also has
basic rights under IDEA including the right to have their child evaluated by the school district and
to be included when the school district meets about the child or makes decisions about his or her
education. If a child is identified as in need of special education... Show more content on

If these students were placed in a regular classroom, they were often functionally excluded, when no
support was provided for the child or the teacher. In addition, many students were misclassified
following inaccurate assessment, placement or tracking. These past practices have been deemed in
violation of a student s constitutional rights. As a result, IDEA now requires that the educational
program that is developed by the IEP team provide the child with opportunities in the least
restrictive environment (LRE). LRE is the most normal setting that is possible for the student. The
team should take several things into consideration when making this determination. First, they must
compare the benefits in the regular class and the benefits in the special class. The U.S. Court of
Appeals determined that the appropriateness of placement in the regular classroom is not
dependent on the student s ability to learn the same things the other students learn in the regular
classroom. The benefit of social interaction should also be taken into account. Second, consideration
should be given to the potentially beneficial or harmful effects that placement in the regular
classroom may have on the students involved. Finally, cost should be considered when determining
the appropriateness of student placement. On occasion, a parent may disagree with the school
district s identification or

Funny Face And Novelty Now Case Analysis
Although, it was done by the direction of Chris, and there is no evidence on the statement that
says that Matt and Ian were aware of this, under corporate criminal liability they are all
responsible for being corporate officials who are responsible for enforcing the law. Neither the law
nor FDA regulations require specific tests to demonstrate the safety of individual products or
ingredients. The law also does not require cosmetic companies to share their safety information with
FDA. (FDA Authority Over Cosmetics, n.d). The FD C Act defines cosmetics by their intended use,

Whom does this decision affect? Although substituting PFY in the formula increased sales
revenue, Funny Face and Novelty Now failed to consider that because of lack of test and FDA
approval of this product, consumers health could and in fact resulted to be at risk of side effects.
Purpose Both companies failed to take efficiency into consideration. Although substituting the
ingredient, seemed like a profitable market idea, would the aftershave be as efficient as it was
originally formulated? How As owners of cosmetic companies, corporate officials need to take into
consideration how public disclosure would affect the business if customers knew about the
substitution of an ingredient for something inferior and not FDA approved. By developing
reasoning towards the WPH framework we can conclude that although it seemed like a smart
market/profit move to substitute PYR, in ethical terms, it meant a violation of consumer trust and
safety. Moreover, the damage to the public speaking career that the aftershave caused to Mr.

Essay Hedda Gabler
TITLE : People may argue that George, Eilert, and Judge Brack are responsible for Hedda s death,
but in reality it is the fault of Hedda s society.
I ve chosen this statement for several reasons. Ibsen s character, Hedda Gabler, represents the
women of the eighteenth and nineteenth century. Hedda stands the issues of self worth and the
deflated value that each woman places upon her own importance as a result of male dominance.
We can see this in the play, as we read we learn more about the character of Hedda Gabler. She is
the daughter of a General who expected a life if glamour and wealth and rebels against the boredom
of a dull, narrow existence by vindictively scheming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hedda is a powerful woman, who on the surface appeared to be confined by a dress, imprisoned in
man s house, and smothered by a male dominated society. Hedda was a calculating bitch who dared
(quite shrewdly) to cross over her set in stone boundaries , manipulate others, and stand back and
watch others lives be destroyed as a result. But when she is backed into a corner by the new
creative couple (George and Thea) and Judge Brack, she takes the final power into her own hand.
The irony is that the power is her late father s pistol.
In the play, we can also sense how woman felt during the times of patriarchy. Hedda is an
extraordinary and very complex character but at the same time is fairly simple to understand.
Her evil doings are somewhat erased from our minds as we justify them, we feel pity towards
Hedda because of the pitiful life she is trapped in, the distorted views on life that Hedda
possesses come to a climax toward the end and we understand a bit more about her character.
However, just as we begin to understand her actions and feel pity towards her instead of hate we
sadly discover her death at the end. How tragic is her death when it was the ultimate control of a
destiny that she so strongly desired?
The issues of greed have a stronghold in myriad literary pieces, effectively demonstrating the value
humanity places upon materialistic commodities. Money is , indeed,

Key Determinant Of A Parent Child Language
Background to the study
CRUCIAL DETERMINANT of a child s progress in language is the quality of the parent child
language interaction during the first three years (Hart
Risley 1995). Maternal behaviours such as maternal responsivity, contingency and stimulating
interactions have been found to be predictive of subsequent language performance of the child.
Optimal parenting behaviour is reciprocal, supports the child s interests and recognises the child s
need for autonomy (Landry et al., 1997; Murray
Hornbaker, 1997). Cognitive ability level in early childhood has been found to be associated with
stimulating and contingent parentinfant interactions (Olson, Bates Kaskie,
1991; Sylva et al., 2011). Children s preschool language performance can be predicted from the
quality of maternal involvement (Olson, Bates Bayles, 1984).
Maternal responsivity the way in which the mother provides for, interacts or responds to their child
creates an environment which has an impact on the language development of their child (Brady,
Warren Sterling,
2009; Hirsh Pasek Burchinal, 2006; Masur,
Flynn Eichorst, 2005). A large UK cohort study examined maternal responses rated at
12 months during an observed motherinfant interaction and found that positive maternal responses
and infant development were associated at 18 months (Pearson et al.,

How Sexuality is Socially Constructed Essay
From birth, one s sexuality is shaped by society. Cultures institute behaviors that are to be seen as
the societal norms, which work to constantly reinforce societal expectations of how genders should
act in relation to one another. Although some may argue that one s sexuality is an innate
characteristic resulting from genetic makeup, there is a large amount of evidence pointing to its
social construction instead. Through the power differences between males and females, established
genderroles, and drastic economic shifts, society establishes sexuality and reinforces the behaviors
that are expected of its citizens.
As Tamsin Wilton explains in her piece, Which One s the Man? The Heterosexualisation of Lesbian
Sex, society has fronted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wilton later describes how, by turning away from the heterosexual male femaleinstitution, women
are taking a crucial step on the path of liberation. Although a woman may be content having
relations with a male, the male s dominant role in society should be enough persuasion for the
former to leave such structured relationship so as to explore a freer partnership that goes against
societal expectations. Wilton refers to Monique Wittig, a French author and feminist theorist, who
states our survival demands that we contribute all our strength to the destruction of the class of
women within which men appropriate women. Thus, Wittig expresses that heterosexualityis a social
system (Wilton 165). Why heterosexuality is forced upon the majority, however, is still unclear.
Emily Martin, in her article, The Egg and the Sperm: How Science has Constructed a Romance
Based on Stereotypical Male Female Roles, explains why this is so. Procreation can only occur
upon the union of sperm and egg and their behaviors have created stereotypes which imply not only
that female biological processes are less worthy than their male counterparts but also that women

Urinary Incontinence And Its Effects On Women
Approximately seventy percent of people experience urinary incontinence (UI) as a result of being
admitted into the hospital. Urinary incontinence is more prevalent in elderly people, and
predominantly affects women more often than men. Urinary incontinence can be is described as the
uncontrolled loss of urine, and can be broken down into five different types. The first type of urinary
incontinenceis stress incontinence, which occurs when there is involuntary emission of urine due
to coughing, sneezing, or applying any increased pressure to the abdominal region. The second
type is urge incontinence, which is when a person has a strong need to void, the bladder then
spasms, and the person experiences a spontaneous loss of urine. The third type of incontinence
that a person may experience is referred to as mixed incontinence. A person may experience a
combination of symptoms from any of the five types of incontinence. The fourth type of
incontinence is overflow incontinence. Typically a person s bladder fills completely, often without
the urge to void, resulting in urinary dribbling. Lastly, there is functional incontinence. During this
type of incontinence a person is generally aware of the urge to void, but due to some physical or
mental deficit, a person has the inability to make it to the restroom. This poses many problems for
both the patient and for the hospitals. As the numbers for UI continue to rise, the risk for falls will
increase, as well as increasing the amount

Compare And Contrast Lamb To The Slaughter And The Signalman
Initially, both writers in the story of Lamb to the Slaughter and The Signal Man are written in a
gothic style and suspense is created through the use of language devices. In The Signalman written
by Charles Dickens, the author himself uses sensory, effects and adjectives to build suspense
likewise in The Lamb to the Slaughter written by Roald Dahl, the author uses figurative language,
dramatic irony and most importantly insanity which bring in the suspense to the story. Both writers

The Rise of a Native American Balladry Essay
The Rise of a Native American Balladry
First, it will be necessary to review some important points. In the early days (1600 1770s),
importation/adaptation was the dominant process.
British songs and ballads were adapted to the frontier experience,
Victorian morality and Puritan ethics. Songs which contained subject matter which was completely
irrelevant to the frontier or unacceptable to moral and ethical standards were either discarded
altogether, new lyrics were added to old melodies, or lyrical changes were made. (Remember, there
were no copyright laws at that time). However, even from the beginning, original folk creations
began to take their place ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was done by including a moral object lesson, i.e., a warning, exhortation, etc., which gave the
song some moral justification and made it palatable to
Calvinistic religious beliefs or by omitting offensive material. The
Wreck of the Old 97 ends with the admonition to girls that they should never speak harshly to their
sweetheart because he may go an never return. In Rising Sun Blues, the singer says,
Go tell my baby brother, Lord, not to do what I have done, Don t spend your days in pain and
misery, In the House of the Rising Sun.
Even songs about natural disaster such as floods, storms, etc., contained such lessons. In a song
known as the Vicksburg Flood, the writer warns his listeners to Get right with your Maker as He
doeth all things right. At the same time, American balladsretained the significant characteristics of
the ballad tradition descriptive narrative, hard hitting realism and a pre occupation with the tragic
element.
Just as important as the adaptation of older ballads and the creation of new ones was the rise of a
distinctive folk style. (Much of the following discussion is from Alan Lomax, Folk Song Style, in
The
American Anthropologist, 61 (December, l959):929 955). No sound recordings were made until
the 1880s and no folk music was recorded, to speak of, until the 1920s; therefore, any discussion of
performance style must be

Typing The subject of personality types is a very interesting to study and learn. While I have
noticed that personalities of individuals differ in many degrees, it never occurred that Typing
could be beneficial in learning individuals, from co workers to managers, within my
organization. Typing has also been beneficial in providing assistance in determining my
personality preferences and how I can apply it to my personal life, specifically at work. In
research, I have been typed as the ISFJ (Introverted, Sensing, Feeling, Judging) personality.
Surprising, as before taking the test and reading the class text I have always viewed myself as
an extrovert. However, after careful and brief analysis, I was able to conclude that at the ISFJ

Cryptography and the Issue of Internet Security Essay...
High level encryption or cryptography is used in a number of applications ranging from those which
impact national security to those which are more mundane. Essentially, cryptography is the
methodology of encoding information so that one s privacy is ensured. This is particularly
important when it comes to transactionswhich occur over the Internet. The risk of individuals
gaining access to personal informationor information which is critical to a country or a nation over
the Internet is a very real one. The practice of cryptography lessens the likelihood of this happening.

We transmit and receive a massive amount of information through the Internet which by its very
nature is insecure and wild and free.
Some information we transmit and receive through the Internet is trivial, other is critical from
either a personal, business or national perspective. Without some form of encryption this
information could not only fall into the wrong hands but it could also be read and manipulated by
those who intercepted it. This, according to the type of information, could be disastrous from either
a personal, business, or national perspective. It could be presumed that intellectual property which
currently belongs to its Creator would be freely disseminated around the globe with no practical
way to control who saw it or how they utilized it (anonymous, http://www.cs.brown.edu/).
Part D Proposed Solutions
There are two possible solutions to the security of data on the Internet. These are TCP/IP and
Cryptography. TCP/IP sessions can be captured, however, by unauthorized personnel using devises
such as IP packet sniffers (Computer Reseller News PG). Cryptography, on the other hand, provides
a single technology which has the potential to address all of the above criteria to ensure safe
Internet transactions.

The Dangers Of Animal Abuse
Background Research:
What is animal abuse? For starters, animal abuse is when a person inflicts suffering or harm on
any animal. Most people, all over the world own an animal; but there are still far more animals left
out on the street. Homeless animals are either left out on the streets or are thrown into shelters. This
became a problem because not all animals are domesticated. Animal shelters began as pounds.
When the system began to be used to impound wandering dogs and cats, these animals were
often killed because little monetary value was placed on them (Lila Miller, Animal sheltering in
the United States: Yesterday, today, and tomorrow, 1) . This issue persists because shelter
workers and others truly believe that an animal life has no value, but that is not true; animals are
living beings just like humans with brains, hearts, and bones. A reported case was that authorities
had seized 23 puppies, 11 cats, and four adult dogs from a self processed animal rescue after they
were found in the rescuer s filthy home. ( No Kill Label Slowly Killing Animals, 3). This means
that an unauthorized person hoarded many animals and forced the animals into an unsafe shelter .
The shelter being a dirty home.
Animal abuse awareness is very important because it is showing that harm to an animal is not
okay, it is a crime, and should not be taken lightly. Animals feel too, dogs don t hide what they feel

Hellenistic School
Hellenistic is the period beginning when the military campaigns of Alexander the Great conquered
territories were infused with Greek culture including philosophy, language, art, and religion. After
Alexander died, the Greek dynasties that were divided among his generals were soon conquered by

Persuasive Speech On The Cub World
In the summer of 2016, I worked as a counselor at Camp Cub World. The job didn t pay too well,
but it kept me busy and was a wonderful learning experience while having fun. The camp was built
for Cub Scouts, or the little boys younger than fifth grade, and resided just downhill from the main
Boy Scout camp, Friedlander.
One of the attributes of Cub World that makes it unique is called Challenge Camp. Normally we
would hold three or four day camp sessions for scouts, but for two weeks in July, we would bring
in kids from the city to experience nature and gain scouting skills. Teaching these kids, so eager to
learn, itself, was rewarding, but what made the staff honestly love Challenge Camp was that they
didn t stay the night. They would return home at three pm, and we would receive the rest of the
day off.
One afternoon, six other staff members and I between the ages of 14 and 16 decided that we
wanted to explore the creek on the edge of camp. Sometimes we took the campers down there to
search for fossils, but we weren t allowed to travel past a certain point. Today, we wanted to
venture beyond and examine how far the creek went. First, we needed to hike through some fields
and then wade through a bit of stinging nettle, but eventually, we reached the water. We were all
expecting to become fully drenched, so we brought bathing suits and water shoes. It started off
shallow, but gradually grew deeper and deeper, with some areas of the creek as high as waist deep.

Essay On Schizophrenics
For the cause of this illness, researches strongly believe that genetics and brain chemistry and the
schizophrenics environments contribute to development of this kind of mental disorder.
Firstly, the main cause of schizophrenia is genetic. Due to research to family members of the
patients with Schizophrenia, we usually have risk to get schizophrenia is about 5% among the
relatives who have this illness compared to general population. For twins, the identical twins have
40% to 65% chances of developing this illness while fraternal twins have 14% 17% chance of
having schizophrenia. Next, for the someone who has Schizophrenic parents, one has 12%
potential to have this mental illness. However, it can increase to 46% to 50% if both of his parents
are affected. The close genetic relationship to a patient with Schizophrenic are riskier to have
schizophrenia compared to distant genetic relationships. The relatives of Schizophrenic were often
contaminated by hereditary mental disease (Bleuler). Baby of a Schizophrenic mother s still have
the risk to have Schizophrenia eventhough the baby is isolated from his/her mother after the birth to
avoid the Schizophrenia environment.

The Importance Of A Carbohydrate And Its Effect On Human Body
Introduction A carbohydrate is consumed and used in our bodies by breaking it down, and
making glucose. Glucose is a sugar that our body uses to give us energy. Carbohydrates generally
provide us with fiber, vitamins and minerals. There are two kinds of carbohydrates: simple and
complex. We get our simple carbohydrates from foods such as milk, lactose products, fruit, and
sugar. Complex carbohydrates, on the other hand, come from starches like cereal, bread, beans,
potatoes, and starchy vegetables. The benedict test is used to indicate the reducing property of
sugars. All simple sugars (glucose) are reducing sugars. They will react with a blue liquid called
Benedict s solution to give a brick red color (positive). We can use this reaction to find out if a
food or other substance contains a reducing sugar. The standard used for reducing sugar was
glucose, and the control group was water. Polysaccharides are relatively complex carbohydrates.
They are polymers made up of many monosaccharides joined together by glycoside bonds. They
are therefore very large, often branched, macromolecules. They tend to be amorphous, insoluble in
water, and have no sweet taste. Starches are glucose polymers in which glucopyranose units are
bonded by alpha linkages. It is made up of a mixture of Amylose and Amylopectin. Amylose
consists of a linear chain of several hundred glucose molecules and Amylopectin is a branched
molecule made of several thousand glucose units. Glycogen is a

Similarities Between Canada And Canada
When it comes to certain qualities and attributes of the United States of America and Canada, many
people residing elsewhere fail to tell the difference. The accents of people from certain parts of both
countries, for instance, are so incredibly indistinguishable that they baffle any and everyone.
Besides this one factor, they even share some comparable cultural characteristics, such as driving on
the right side of the road and cherishing the same basic human rights to the utmost importance.
Likewise, there are several similarities between multiple aspects of the countries respective
governments, including within their individual established frameworks, political systems, and their
divisions of authorities and duties. These could potentially point out a reason as to why Canadaand
the United Statesare immensely successful in their particular objectives, and are on their paths to
achieving their long term goals with difficult to accomplish, yet beneficial visions. After all, they
are both either on the way to becoming or currently are two of world s leading superpowers
(Financial Post). However, there is not just one particular infallible way to rule a country and push
it to further advancement simultaneously. In fact, each country works and functions differently,
which is primarily due to individual background and history. Ultimately, although Canada and the
United States of America are both nations that share similarities in various parts of their
Constitutions, political

Summary Of Alan Turing The Enigma
Alan Turing: The Enigma by Andrew Hodges London: Burnett Books Ltd, 2000 Andrew
Hodges brings Alan Turing to life in the namesake title, Alan Turing: The Enigma. Alan Turing,
a war hero in his own right, worked during World War II at Bletchley Park in England which was
the site housing British codebreakers for the Government Code and Cypher School (GC CS).
One of his main objectives was to crack the German Enigma machine s code. Turing s work was
crucial to the war, and beyond that, he is known as the father of computer science and a brilliant
mathematician. Turing became alarmed about the war with Germany in the fall of 1937. At the
time, Turing spent his time studying and working on a thesis based on the theory of
computation and on the hypothetical devices later known as Turing machines. A Turing
machine in today s sense would be a model for a modern computer. Besides the important work
with his research, he found time to enjoyably take up the subject of cryptanalysis assuming
words would be replaced by numbers eventually to be transmitted on a binary scale: in zeros and
ones, on and off, true and false. Turing himself even spent the time building hardware to produce
ciphering machines as a hobby while at Princeton. These precursors were a perfect setup for the
work he would pursue with the GC CS and Turing a natural recruit. During the First World War
and up to this time in 1938, the GC CS grew from a small operation of around 25 officers with a
small clerical staff

One Ordinary Day With Wallets Short Story
One Ordinary Day, with Wallets Mr. Johnson put on his uncomfortable shoes and then trudged out
into the way to bright and shiny morning sunshine. He was not in the best of moods, so when he
stopped at a newspaper stand to pick up his daily morning newspaper, he spoke angrily to the
salesperson to hurry up. When another man came to buy a paper, Mr. Johnson quickly stole his
walletand hid it in a secret pocket in his jacket. Then he acted extremely apologetic when the man
couldn t find it and even paid the 60 cents for the paper, so as to not seem suspicious. When he
had walked a few blocks away from the newspaper stand Mr. Johnson hunched over some and
began to walk slowly. He arrived at a crosswalk and then started to painfully cross it. A naive
woman quickly ran up and said Would you like me to assist you, sir?
Mr. Johnson eyed the expensive looking dress and shoes the lady was wearing and replied Yes,
thank you, it is so kind of you to aid me.
As they reached the sidewalk the lady said Where are you headed? Oh, just simply down the street
to the drugstore to buy myself some heart medication. Mr. Johnson said.
The woman said, Well, then I ll walk you there.
Mr. Johnson then replied Oh that won t be necessary, but I appreciate your kindness in helping me
across the street. Then he swiftly and sneakily stole her wallet from her purse and rushed away.
She was dumbfounded about how he was suddenly able to walk fast, but simply shrugged it off
and went about her day, not knowing that her wallet was gone until it was too late. Mr. Johnson
then headed to a hot dog cart, along the way pickpocketing three more wallets off of rich looking
businessmen. When he got there he asked for a hot dog with mustard. The man gave him one
and just as Mr. Johnson was about to take a bite, he accidentally dropped it. The man at the cart
said Oh sir, I m so sorry, let me fetch you another one. Mr. Johnson sweetly replied Thank you so
much, I am so glad that there are people like you in the world. The man gave him another hot dog
and Mr. Johnson took a bite. He then cried This is the worst hot dog stand in New York, the meat is

Propaganda The Birth Of Spin Analysis
The First World War marks a time of hardship and loss for all countries involved. To ensure and
sustain enthusiasm and investment for the war, those in power turned to the concept of
propoganda and spin. WWI effected everyone, even those not fighting, so the propaganda
displayed was an attempt to boost moral and interest. To do so, governments were able to utilize
new technologies, spreading these ideas faster and to a more broad audience. Those newly
aquired techniques have swept over this world and are still used today, some in more severe
manners. While there may have been some minimal, small scale use of spin in earlier civilizations,
it was during World War I, the use of spin and propagandatook enormous leaps, becoming an

Unfortunately spin techniques are now employed heavily, not for the common good, but to
further self interests of greed, power, and authority. The ends no longer justify the means. The
once noble use of spin to boost morale and ultimately win a war too costly to lose, has since
degraded into a special interest feeding frenzy. And in spite of increased levels of public
awareness of spin, the techniques are still working to sway public opinion. Somehow peoplr don t

Technicolor In A Matter Of Life And Death
This film study will define the theory of color consciousness in the psychological
characterization of life and death through Technicolor and dye monochrome methods in A Matter
of Life and Death (1946) by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger. In the film, Squadron Leader
Peter David Carter (David Niven) is depicted as a dying after his plane is shot down during WWII.
Natalie Kalmus theory of colorconsciousness defines the use of neutral colors and color harmony
in a psychological perspective, which contrast the use of dye monochrome methods of color
theory in the black and white sequences of Carter s journey to the Other World. More so, Carter
is a blessed individual that survives death, and his life on earth is defined through the color
harmony proposed by Kalmus as part of the symbol of nature in the living realm. Cinematographer
Jack Cardiff also provides scenic images and lighting technique related to life and death through the
cosmic view of heaven in the Other World, which contrasts the more nature based romantic scenes
of Carter and June (Kim Hunter) while on Earth. Carter is, therefore, characterized as a symbolic
traveler between life and death in the use of color, monochrome film, and lighting in this
Technicolor production.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Personalization In Health And Social Care Case Study
2.3 Personalization and Privacy Concern
In the rapidly developing mobile health market, MHS providers need personalized services

issues of users privacy inevitably, and this seems to be an adoption behavior paradox. On the one
hand, users enjoy personalized mobile health services, but on the other hand, they are reluctant to

Discrimation In Religion
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints more commonly known as The Mormon church,
has always received a bad reputation when it comes to discrimation. Since the early 1900 s, the
church, some due to the events in the outside world, made mistakes while growing into the church

works today, just as much as they did almost one hundred years ago, because of those mistakes and

Why Did Robert Borden Use Conscription In 1917
Why Using Conscription in 1917 was a Good Idea
During war time 1917, the conditions overseas were not ideal. Many men were dying, making
more volunteers necessary, while the numbers of volunteers were dropping rapidly. Originally,
Prime Minister Robert Borden promised that there would be no conscription during the First World
War, but, due to numbers of volunteers dropping and promising Britain more troops, he created the
Military Services Act that allowed conscription, which called all men ages 20 45 to war in 1917,
then was passed and effective on January 1st, 1918. This leads to the controversy, was using
conscription in World War 1 necessary? Some people argued that it was not necessary for the act

with his decision after seeing that In May that year, prime minister Robert Borden returned to
Canada from Europe and decided the country couldn t replenish the depleted battle lines without

Joan Didion and Tim O Brien have many differences and similarities in their writing. In On

between a notebook and a diary. She makes numerous other points along the way throughout the
writing. O Brien writes about the Vietnam War and emphasizes items that the men carry, switching
from point of views sporadically. Both authors write with a reminiscent tone, as if they are looking
back on old memories and jotting them down in a notebook. Even though Didion stays in one point
of view throughout the whole piece, and O Brien switches between characters and points of view
rather often, one can still see the similarities in the way they write. Didion cannot remember exactly

Who started it, and when, and why? (O Brien 38). Neither is fully positive in the way they write.
A point made in both pieces has to do with stretching the truth somewhat to make for a better
story. Didion mentions how with a diary, one would have to write exactly what happened,
whereas with a notebook, she feels she only has to jot down some things. Like she would be
able to expand on what happened later, make it up as she goes along. And yet it is precisely that
fictitious crab that makes me see the afternoon all over again, a home movie run all too often,
the father bearing gifts, the child weeping, an exercise in family love and guilt (Didion 83). She
says how part of her story about the cracked crab was untrue, and exaggerated, however it is that
part that makes her remember and believe it all the more. O Brien plays with similar ideas about
truth, elaborating on it in the chapter How to Tell a True War Story. The story Sanders tells about
the men and the mountain, speaks of strange sounds, almost sounds like it s a story about ghosts,
and he mentions how he doesn t really remember all of the details, so some of it may be
exaggerated.

According to A Surveillance Society by William E. Thompson and Joseph V. Hickey, cameras are
becoming more common to people nowadays. They are everywhere in almost all government and
corporate offices, and many social and public places like malls and stores. Britain has been the most
active in this trend; putting cameras in some trouble spots for public safety. Additionally, since the

which expanded its authority to spy on private citizens. Furthermore, the

Roof Restoration Cost Essay
How much does modern roof restoration cost in Australia?
At some point in the lifetime of your home you will need to replace the roof. Perhaps it has
succumb to corrosion, has worn out and leaks, or is otherwise too damaged to be patched and
easily repaired. The roof restoration cost can feel daunting but there are a few factors that come
into play that can make a big difference.
Can the roof be cleaned, repaired, or restored instead of fully replaced?
One of the first things you ll want to consider is if the roof can be repaired without needing to be
completely replaced. If you can repair damaged sections vs. replacing the whole roof you ll

Other factors that affect cost:
The cost of the modern roof restoration or replacement will also be affected by a number of
aspects including the pitch of your roof, how complex the roof design is, do the gutters and/or
insulation also need to be replaced, how high the roof is, and which type of roofing material you
want to use.
Once some of these factors are considered you can expect the reroofing to cost between $80 and

the cost will be more. When you discuss this with your contractor make sure you ask them if the
cost includes removal and disposal or the debris from the roof you are replacing. In all cases it

II. The Dangers of Stimulant Medication
Until recently, no studies have systematically examined the rate of psychotic symptoms caused by

stimulant induced psychoses.
The rate of psychotic symptoms that appear during stimulant treatment has recently been

Primary Insomnia Essay
Primary insomnia
Primary insomnia is estimated to affect 6% of the population (Roth S7 S10).In primary insomnia
patients have difficulty to either fall asleep, stay asleep, or both. As a result, they may feel
dissatisfied with their sleep and may not feel refreshed when they wake up. Consequently, insomnia
will directly be detrimental to performance of daily task, such as the problems with learning,
remembering, daytime fatigue, irritability, and negative feelings of wellbeing.
Primary insomnia is a particular type of insomnia. In general, insomnia can be transient, acute, or
chronic, based on the duration of the symptoms. They range from a few days for transient
insomnia to months or even longer for chronic insomnia. Chronic insomnia being most severe can
be further separated into primary or secondary insomnia. Whereas secondary insomnia is viewed
as a symptom of another illness, primary insomnia is not due to presently identified psychiatric
disorders, medical circumstances, and substance use disorders (Kayukawa et al 1494 1500).
Therefore primary insomnia is considered an illness itself with unclear etiology.
Factors (causes)
Typically primary insomnia is brought on by excessive amount of stress and anxiety. The definite
causes aren t known, but these psychological factors can play a role in the development of sleep
problems. Research shows that the problem initiates as a biological reaction(HPA) to a stressful

the world of financial growth. The success of these films, whether they are tremendous or atrocious,
is not only dependent of the actual film, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The result of this, as might be expected, is a hilarious disaster full of outstanding performances.
Robin Williams, despite his reputation for unfettered mania, is surprisingly restrained throughout
most of The Birdcage, doing a little serious acting along the way. Nathan Lane, playing the
effeminate Albert, is the real star, whether he s trying to swagger like John Wayne to act manly or
costumed like a housewife. Gene Hackman has the straight man s role, into which he fits
wonderfully. The only role that is over the top is Hank Azania as Aggedor, the houseboy for
Armand and Albert. The film is so entertaining that it is easy for the unsuspecting viewer not to
realize its hidden message. The structure of The Birdcage is designed to show us that there isn t
much difference between conservatives and liberals, and on that note, straight and gay people.
Hal Hinson, a movie critic of The Washington Post, best describes The Birdcage as a movie of
many laughs. In the review titled The Birdcage: A Wingding of a Show, Hinson describes in
great detail the setting and plot of this movie, and makes it clear that is what the reader is
looking for. However, it is quite clear that he has made the assumption the reader has not yet seen
the film. He also assumes that the audience has even the slightest sense of humor. The movie is
presented as one for almost any age and for people whom are quite liberal in their views. He goes
further to explain the situation the actors are

Organizational Culture and Its Importance
There is no single definition for organizational culture. The topic has been studied from a variety of
perspectives ranging from disciplines such as anthropology and sociology, to the applied disciplines
of organizational behaviour, management science, and organizational communication. Some of the
definitions are listed below:
A set of common understandings around which action is organized; finding expression in language
whose nuances are peculiar to the group (Becker and Geer 1960).
A set of understandings or meanings shared by a group of people that are largely tacit among
members and are clearly relevant and distinctive to the particular group which are also passed on to
new members (Louis 1980).
A system of knowledge, of standards ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To understand culture, we must understand all three levels. One additional aspect complicates the
study of culture: the group or cultural unit which owns the culture. An organization may have many
different cultures or subcultures, or even no discernible dominant culture at the organizational
level. Recognizing the cultural unit is essential to identifying and understanding the culture.
Organizational cultures are created, maintained, or transformed by people. An organization s
culture is, in part, also created and maintained by the organization s leadership. Leaders at the
executive level are the principle source for the generation and re infusion of an organization s
ideology, articulation of core values and specification of norms. Organizational values express
preferences for certain behaviours or certain outcomes. Organizational norms express behaviours
accepted by others. They are culturally acceptable ways of pursuing goals. Leaders also establish
the parameters for formal lines of communication and message content the formal interaction rules
for the organization. Values and norms, once transmitted through the organization, establish the
permanence of the organization s culture.
ORGANIZATIONAL CULTUREIS ALSO A SYNTHESIS OF SUBCULTURES
Sociologists discuss how distinct societies are composites of interacting subcultures rather than a
single overarching culture. Organizations consist of subgroups that

What Are The Metaphors In Lord Of The Ring
The Lord of The Ring s trilogy is considered one of the greatest Hollywood films in the century.
These films have broken several movie records for the Hollywood industry. Also, these movies
relate with an all age audience because of the great development of all the characters in the movie.
To be clear, some would say that they feel like they know the characters after watching the trilogy.
In my experience after watching the trilogy, it left me in aww because the different aspects of filmit
portrayed. Nevertheless, after watching the trilogy twice I became more familiar with some
metaphors the author, J.R Tolkien, was trying to reveal. Overall, these metaphors can be seen
through the Ring, Gandalf s role and the friendship between Frodo and Sam.
Notably the ring is a symbol of pure evil in these trilogies. In these films, anyone that stumbled
upon the ring would be overcome by its power and will try to take it. For an example, you can
see the power of the ring dividing fellowships throughout these films. To be specific in the
beginning of the third movie golem was overcome by the rings power, which led him to kill his
best friend. The metaphor of the ring can be classified as the evil in a person s life. Furthermore,

Throughout the trilogy Frodo and Sam both developed an unbreakable bond. For example, Sam
bared through Frodo s burden of carrying the ring to the end. This is a great friendship for it
shows that Sam never gave up on his friend. Also, Sam saved Frodo from the orcs even though
Frodo hurt Sam by telling him to go away. This shows a strong bond of friendship even under the
trials through their adventures. In the second film Frodo tell Sam I am glad you are here with
me. Here at the end of all things, Sam. This is a good example of how a friendship should be. As
shown above, the bond between Frodo and Sam is a great role model for a foundation of

Essay On The Christmas Carol
I have to say, this play was intriguing to me, with the three interlocking plots, all of which
surrounding a common theme; marriages. I am not familiar with this play outside of this class, I
had wanted to see the Hollywood adaptation with Kevin Kline, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Stanley
Tucci, but I never got around to it. To be honest, I didn t identify with any of the characters or the
plot itself, which caused great difficulty in choosing an angle for this paper.
The planned marriage between the good natured, appreciative Duke Theseus, who makes the best of
everything, and the Amazonian queen, the proud, fastidious Hippolyta was interesting, with a
Pagan twist, I enjoy Paganism and Pagan Esque mood, scenery, and feel. Then an utterly mad

The societal restrictions and the dramatic differences between the real world and the fairy world. I
do not agree with allowing only men to be the decision makers and leaving the women to deal
with the cards they re dealt, but that was many years ago, thankfully! A Midsummer Night s
Dream was a play that was done quite beautifully by FRCC students. I was mesmerized by the
acting abilities of all of the characters that I was frequently drawn in, sitting on the edge of my
seat, thrilled to be there in the presence of all this

The Combustion Of Household Fuels
The Combustion of Household Fuels
Introduction
Fire, from humans first interactions with it, has been terrifying, delighting, and mysterious all at
once. Yet it is impossible to imagine a day passing without any interactions with the phenomenon.
From burning wood in the fireplace, to preparing tea on a stove operating with natural gas, to using
charcoal for a backyard barbecue, different objects are chosen as the source of combustion
depending on the task that they need to accomplish. Furthermore, with parents, teachers, and
firefighters incessantly warning students not to place certain substances close to nearby ignition
sources, one cannot help but wonder how the chemical characteristics of these substances play a
role in determining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Further experiments would then need to be performed to gain a complete understanding of the
benefits and consequences of combusting certain fuels.
Background Information
The combustion of the hydrocarbons and organic molecules found in fuels is a chemical reaction
that primarily involves the oxidation of carbon and hydrogen in various compounds to release heat
and produce water and carbon dioxide. When the environment lacks sufficient oxygen, rendering
oxygen as the limiting reagent in the reaction, incomplete combustion would occur. This involves
the production of other chemicals such as carbon monoxide and solid carbon in addition to water
and carbon dioxide. The general chemical equations for the incomplete and complete combustion of
hydrocarbons are as follows:
Complete: CxHy + O2(g) в†’ H2O(l) + CO2(g)
Incomplete: CxHy + O2(g) в†’ H2O(l) + CO2(g) + CO(g) + C(s)
Of course, the composition of each fuel varies, yet the main organic molecule they contain can be
used to formulate the basic chemical reaction that is undergone when each substance is combusted.
In the case with fondue fuel, methanol is the main substance that is responsible for combustion and
can be represented with the following equation (NIST 2015):
2 CH3OH(l) + 3 O2(g) в†’ 2 CO2(g) + 4 H2O(l),where is 725.7 kJ/mol
Fondue fuel is

Magnolia Therapeutic Solutions Case Study Essay Magnolia Therapeutic Solutions Case Study Whittni Summerlee University of Phoenix BSHS/373 Financial Management in Human Services Frieda Flowers January 24th, 2010 Magnolia Therapeutic Solutions Case Study Magnolia Therapeutic Solutions is a well known nonprofit that provides psychotherapy for clients with Post Traumatic Syndrome Disorder (PSTD). Magnolia contributed several hours of intensive help to the victims of 911. In return NYC gave the organization a large grant to help it meet the demands of PSTD services. Mary Stewart, the founder of the organization believed that the grant given in 2001 would be renewed in 2002 as well. Much to her surprise the grant was not renewed. The grant was already factored into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 3). Causes Behind the Ultimate Problem There were several causes behind the ultimate problems Magnolia suffered. This seems to have stemmed from the lack of accountability and responsibility with the financial management. First, Mary had written a budget based on funds that were not guaranteed. She even based raising money for the organization on higher grants for 2002. Since the 2002 budget was written on false grants, this caused a huge problem and several staff members got laid off. This caused the organization to come to a stand still. This problem could have been solved a few different ways. Either by writing a budget with the grants and funds Mary knew 100% would be available. Or she could have written the budget with the NYC grant and had a back up budget incase it was not renewed. This way the board of directors could have seen either way Mary had a budget that could actually be carried out. Secondly, in 2001 the organization used the remainder of the grant to increase other administrative services. The surplus from the grants in 2001 should have been budgeted into the growing organization and the services provided, not administrative services. The identification of a human service agency s programs, the creation of a program structure, the assignment of program managers, and the designation of responsibility centers are the basic building blocks of ... He had succumbed to the excruciating pain of sulfur gas right before Owen s eyes, leaving him traumatized. Dulce Et Decorum Est is an allegory for bound, ill fated camaraderie. Through the use of oxymora, imagery, and allusion, Owen is able demonstrate core shaking loss. Using final words of the poem, Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori, Owen makes an allusion to Roman poet Horace s Odes. The Latin phrase translates to: it is sweet and fitting to die for one s country. This saying becomes the centerpiece of the poem s irony. Firsthand experience with war is not sweet nor fitting, here it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Each sari holds weight the weight of love and commitment. The commitment of a family s legacy as within each sari, a legacy is stored. A legacy well depicted by my connection to my culturethrough the traditional artwork my family owns. The relation I had felt with the painting Lady with a Lamp was personal, a similar emotional attachment is described by Eden Medina in Ballet Slippers . Despite having many other clothing items related to ballet the footwear is the object of identification which draws the line between ballet and other styles of dance for Medina (Ballet Slippers). Aesthetically pleasing both the ballet slippers and the sari carry symbolic power as the sari embraces the woman s body integrated with their traditional Indian beliefs with the garment s mobility and the slipper embraces the evolution to more durable hard material which broadened the range of movement the ballerina was expected to perform (Ballet Slippers).... Discipline and Students with Disabilities Essay Public Law 94 142: The Education for All Handicapped Children Act of 1975, now called Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), requires states to provide free, appropriate public education (FAPE) for every child regardless of disability. This federal law was the first to clearly define the rights of disabled children to receive special education services if their disability affects their educational performance. A parent of a special education student also has basic rights under IDEA including the right to have their child evaluated by the school district and to be included when the school district meets about the child or makes decisions about his or her education. If a child is identified as in need of special education... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If these students were placed in a regular classroom, they were often functionally excluded, when no support was provided for the child or the teacher. In addition, many students were misclassified following inaccurate assessment, placement or tracking. These past practices have been deemed in violation of a student s constitutional rights. As a result, IDEA now requires that the educational program that is developed by the IEP team provide the child with opportunities in the least restrictive environment (LRE). LRE is the most normal setting that is possible for the student. The team should take several things into consideration when making this determination. First, they must compare the benefits in the regular class and the benefits in the special class. The U.S. Court of Appeals determined that the appropriateness of placement in the regular classroom is not dependent on the student s ability to learn the same things the other students learn in the regular classroom. The benefit of social interaction should also be taken into account. Second, consideration should be given to the potentially beneficial or harmful effects that placement in the regular classroom may have on the students involved. Finally, cost should be considered when determining the appropriateness of student placement. On occasion, a parent may disagree with the school district s identification or ... The law also does not require cosmetic companies to share their safety information with FDA. (FDA Authority Over Cosmetics, n.d). Although substituting the ingredient, seemed like a profitable market idea, would the aftershave be as efficient as it was originally formulated? How As owners of cosmetic companies, corporate officials need to take into consideration how public disclosure would affect the business if customers knew about the substitution of an ingredient for something inferior and not FDA approved. By developing reasoning towards the WPH framework we can conclude that although it seemed like a smart market/profit move to substitute PYR, in ethical terms, it meant a violation of consumer trust and safety. • 7. Essay Hedda Gabler TITLE : People may argue that George, Eilert, and Judge Brack are responsible for Hedda s death, but in reality it is the fault of Hedda s society. I ve chosen this statement for several reasons. Ibsen s character, Hedda Gabler, represents the women of the eighteenth and nineteenth century. Hedda stands the issues of self worth and the deflated value that each woman places upon her own importance as a result of male dominance. We can see this in the play, as we read we learn more about the character of Hedda Gabler. She is the daughter of a General who expected a life if glamour and wealth and rebels against the boredom of a dull, narrow existence by vindictively scheming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hedda is a powerful woman, who on the surface appeared to be confined by a dress, imprisoned in man s house, and smothered by a male dominated society. Hedda was a calculating bitch who dared (quite shrewdly) to cross over her set in stone boundaries , manipulate others, and stand back and watch others lives be destroyed as a result. But when she is backed into a corner by the new creative couple (George and Thea) and Judge Brack, she takes the final power into her own hand. The irony is that the power is her late father s pistol. In the play, we can also sense how woman felt during the times of patriarchy. Hedda is an extraordinary and very complex character but at the same time is fairly simple to understand. Her evil doings are somewhat erased from our minds as we justify them, we feel pity towards Hedda because of the pitiful life she is trapped in, the distorted views on life that Hedda possesses come to a climax toward the end and we understand a bit more about her character. However, just as we begin to understand her actions and feel pity towards her instead of hate we sadly discover her death at the end. How tragic is her death when it was the ultimate control of a destiny that she so strongly desired? The issues of greed have a stronghold in myriad literary pieces, effectively demonstrating the value humanity places upon materialistic commodities. Money is , indeed, ... • 8. Key Determinant Of A Parent Child Language Background to the study CRUCIAL DETERMINANT of a child s progress in language is the quality of the parent child language interaction during the first three years (Hart Risley 1995). Maternal behaviours such as maternal responsivity, contingency and stimulating interactions have been found to be predictive of subsequent language performance of the child. Optimal parenting behaviour is reciprocal, supports the child s interests and recognises the child s need for autonomy (Landry et al., 1997; Murray Hornbaker, 1997). Cognitive ability level in early childhood has been found to be associated with stimulating and contingent parentinfant interactions (Olson, Bates Kaskie, 1991; Sylva et al., 2011). Children s preschool language performance can be predicted from the quality of maternal involvement (Olson, Bates Bayles, 1984). Maternal responsivity the way in which the mother provides for, interacts or responds to their child creates an environment which has an impact on the language development of their child (Brady, Warren Sterling, 2009; Hirsh Pasek Burchinal, 2006; Masur, Flynn Eichorst, 2005). A large UK cohort study examined maternal responses rated at 12 months during an observed motherinfant interaction and found that positive maternal responses and infant development were associated at 18 months (Pearson et al., 30 Educational Child Psychology Vol. 31 No. 4 The British Psychological Society, 2014 The impact of the Mellow Parenting programme on later ... • 9. How Sexuality is Socially Constructed Essay From birth, one s sexuality is shaped by society. Cultures institute behaviors that are to be seen as the societal norms, which work to constantly reinforce societal expectations of how genders should act in relation to one another. Although some may argue that one s sexuality is an innate characteristic resulting from genetic makeup, there is a large amount of evidence pointing to its social construction instead. Through the power differences between males and females, established genderroles, and drastic economic shifts, society establishes sexuality and reinforces the behaviors that are expected of its citizens. As Tamsin Wilton explains in her piece, Which One s the Man? The Heterosexualisation of Lesbian Sex, society has fronted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wilton later describes how, by turning away from the heterosexual male femaleinstitution, women are taking a crucial step on the path of liberation. Although a woman may be content having relations with a male, the male s dominant role in society should be enough persuasion for the former to leave such structured relationship so as to explore a freer partnership that goes against societal expectations. Wilton refers to Monique Wittig, a French author and feminist theorist, who states our survival demands that we contribute all our strength to the destruction of the class of women within which men appropriate women. Thus, Wittig expresses that heterosexualityis a social system (Wilton 165). Why heterosexuality is forced upon the majority, however, is still unclear. Emily Martin, in her article, The Egg and the Sperm: How Science has Constructed a Romance Based on Stereotypical Male Female Roles, explains why this is so. Procreation can only occur upon the union of sperm and egg and their behaviors have created stereotypes which imply not only that female biological processes are less worthy than their male counterparts but also that women ... Urinary incontinence is more prevalent in elderly people, and predominantly affects women more often than men. Urinary incontinence can be is described as the uncontrolled loss of urine, and can be broken down into five different types. The first type of urinary incontinenceis stress incontinence, which occurs when there is involuntary emission of urine due to coughing, sneezing, or applying any increased pressure to the abdominal region. The second type is urge incontinence, which is when a person has a strong need to void, the bladder then spasms, and the person experiences a spontaneous loss of urine. The third type of incontinence that a person may experience is referred to as mixed incontinence. A person may experience a combination of symptoms from any of the five types of incontinence. The fourth type of incontinence is overflow incontinence. Typically a person s bladder fills completely, often without the urge to void, resulting in urinary dribbling. Lastly, there is functional incontinence. During this type of incontinence a person is generally aware of the urge to void, but due to some physical or mental deficit, a person has the inability to make it to the restroom. • 12. The Rise of a Native American Balladry Essay The Rise of a Native American Balladry First, it will be necessary to review some important points. In the early days (1600 1770s), importation/adaptation was the dominant process. British songs and ballads were adapted to the frontier experience, Victorian morality and Puritan ethics. Songs which contained subject matter which was completely irrelevant to the frontier or unacceptable to moral and ethical standards were either discarded altogether, new lyrics were added to old melodies, or lyrical changes were made. (Remember, there were no copyright laws at that time). However, even from the beginning, original folk creations began to take their place ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was done by including a moral object lesson, i.e., a warning, exhortation, etc., which gave the song some moral justification and made it palatable to Calvinistic religious beliefs or by omitting offensive material. The Wreck of the Old 97 ends with the admonition to girls that they should never speak harshly to their sweetheart because he may go an never return. In Rising Sun Blues, the singer says, Go tell my baby brother, Lord, not to do what I have done, Don t spend your days in pain and misery, In the House of the Rising Sun. Even songs about natural disaster such as floods, storms, etc., contained such lessons. In a song known as the Vicksburg Flood, the writer warns his listeners to Get right with your Maker as He doeth all things right. At the same time, American balladsretained the significant characteristics of the ballad tradition descriptive narrative, hard hitting realism and a pre occupation with the tragic element. Just as important as the adaptation of older ballads and the creation of new ones was the rise of a distinctive folk style. (Much of the following discussion is from Alan Lomax, Folk Song Style, in The American Anthropologist, 61 (December, l959):929 955). No sound recordings were made until the 1880s and no folk music was recorded, to speak of, until the 1920s; therefore, any discussion of performance style must be somewhat ... High level encryption or cryptography is used in a number of applications ranging from those which impact national security to those which are more mundane. The risk of individuals gaining access to personal informationor information which is critical to a country or a nation over the Internet is a very real one. • 16. The Dangers Of Animal Abuse Background Research: What is animal abuse? For starters, animal abuse is when a person inflicts suffering or harm on any animal. Most people, all over the world own an animal; but there are still far more animals left out on the street. Homeless animals are either left out on the streets or are thrown into shelters. This became a problem because not all animals are domesticated. Animal shelters began as pounds. When the system began to be used to impound wandering dogs and cats, these animals were often killed because little monetary value was placed on them (Lila Miller, Animal sheltering in the United States: Yesterday, today, and tomorrow, 1) . This issue persists because shelter workers and others truly believe that an animal life has no value, but that is not true; animals are living beings just like humans with brains, hearts, and bones. A reported case was that authorities had seized 23 puppies, 11 cats, and four adult dogs from a self processed animal rescue after they were found in the rescuer s filthy home. ( No Kill Label Slowly Killing Animals, 3). This means that an unauthorized person hoarded many animals and forced the animals into an unsafe shelter . The shelter being a dirty home. Animal abuse awareness is very important because it is showing that harm to an animal is not okay, it is a crime, and should not be taken lightly. Animals feel too, dogs don t hide what they feel ( Marc Bekoff, The Emotional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hellenistic School Hellenistic is the period beginning when the military campaigns of Alexander the Great conquered territories were infused with Greek culture including philosophy, language, art, and religion. After Alexander died, the Greek dynasties that were divided among his generals were soon conquered by the Romans. They then adapted the Greek culture and spreading it among their Empire. While then, Athens continue following Plato s, Aristotle s, and several new Hellenistic schools as a philosophical. The new schools started out still continue to discuss the same issues of nature. Yet, it was eventually added a therapeutic element, offering accounts for how to attain happiness. The Greekssaw their rulers as being next to godliness, and in a way, the people who work here are our rulers. The subject of the art that I observed had a theme of peace, war, nobility, and discovery. The first statue I saw was a large monument made of bronze and marble. The monument featured Ulysses S. Grant, James A. Garfield, Phillip Sheridan, William T. Sherman, Rutherford B. Hayes, Salmon Chase, and Edwin Stanton standing under a Greek goddess (who resembles Ceres because she is surrounded by bushels of wheat and grains) with a quote under her that says These are my jewels . These men were by far the greatest men to come from Ohio and just like the Greeks who cast their heroes in bronze, so have we cast our heroes for all to see in bronze at the Capitol. The job didn t pay too well, but it kept me busy and was a wonderful learning experience while having fun. The camp was built for Cub Scouts, or the little boys younger than fifth grade, and resided just downhill from the main Boy Scout camp, Friedlander. One of the attributes of Cub World that makes it unique is called Challenge Camp. Normally we would hold three or four day camp sessions for scouts, but for two weeks in July, we would bring in kids from the city to experience nature and gain scouting skills. Teaching these kids, so eager to learn, itself, was rewarding, but what made the staff honestly love Challenge Camp was that they didn t stay the night. They would return home at three pm, and we would receive the rest of the day off. One afternoon, six other staff members and I between the ages of 14 and 16 decided that we wanted to explore the creek on the edge of camp. Sometimes we took the campers down there to search for fossils, but we weren t allowed to travel past a certain point. Today, we wanted to venture beyond and examine how far the creek went. First, we needed to hike through some fields and then wade through a bit of stinging nettle, but eventually, we reached the water. We were all expecting to become fully drenched, so we brought bathing suits and water shoes. • 24. The Importance Of A Carbohydrate And Its Effect On Human Body Introduction A carbohydrate is consumed and used in our bodies by breaking it down, and making glucose. Glucose is a sugar that our body uses to give us energy. Carbohydrates generally provide us with fiber, vitamins and minerals. There are two kinds of carbohydrates: simple and complex. We get our simple carbohydrates from foods such as milk, lactose products, fruit, and sugar. Complex carbohydrates, on the other hand, come from starches like cereal, bread, beans, potatoes, and starchy vegetables. The benedict test is used to indicate the reducing property of sugars. All simple sugars (glucose) are reducing sugars. They will react with a blue liquid called Benedict s solution to give a brick red color (positive). We can use this reaction to find out if a food or other substance contains a reducing sugar. The standard used for reducing sugar was glucose, and the control group was water. Polysaccharides are relatively complex carbohydrates. They are polymers made up of many monosaccharides joined together by glycoside bonds. They are therefore very large, often branched, macromolecules. They tend to be amorphous, insoluble in water, and have no sweet taste. Starches are glucose polymers in which glucopyranose units are bonded by alpha linkages. It is made up of a mixture of Amylose and Amylopectin. Amylose consists of a linear chain of several hundred glucose molecules and Amylopectin is a branched molecule made of several thousand glucose units. Glycogen is a ... Summary Of Alan Turing The Enigma Alan Turing: The Enigma by Andrew Hodges London: Burnett Books Ltd, 2000 Andrew Hodges brings Alan Turing to life in the namesake title, Alan Turing: The Enigma. Alan Turing, a war hero in his own right, worked during World War II at Bletchley Park in England which was the site housing British codebreakers for the Government Code and Cypher School (GC CS). One of his main objectives was to crack the German Enigma machine s code. Turing s work was crucial to the war, and beyond that, he is known as the father of computer science and a brilliant mathematician. Turing became alarmed about the war with Germany in the fall of 1937. At the time, Turing spent his time studying and working on a thesis based on the theory of computation and on the hypothetical devices later known as Turing machines. A Turing machine in today s sense would be a model for a modern computer. Besides the important work with his research, he found time to enjoyably take up the subject of cryptanalysis assuming words would be replaced by numbers eventually to be transmitted on a binary scale: in zeros and ones, on and off, true and false. Turing himself even spent the time building hardware to produce ciphering machines as a hobby while at Princeton. These precursors were a perfect setup for the work he would pursue with the GC CS and Turing a natural recruit. To do so, governments were able to utilize new technologies, spreading these ideas faster and to a more broad audience. Those newly aquired techniques have swept over this world and are still used today, some in more severe manners. Consequently, insomnia will directly be detrimental to performance of daily task, such as the problems with learning, remembering, daytime fatigue, irritability, and negative feelings of wellbeing. Primary insomnia is a particular type of insomnia. In general, insomnia can be transient, acute, or chronic, based on the duration of the symptoms. They range from a few days for transient insomnia to months or even longer for chronic insomnia. Chronic insomnia being most severe can be further separated into primary or secondary insomnia. Whereas secondary insomnia is viewed as a symptom of another illness, primary insomnia is not due to presently identified psychiatric disorders, medical circumstances, and substance use disorders (Kayukawa et al 1494 1500). Therefore primary insomnia is considered an illness itself with unclear etiology. Factors (causes) Typically primary insomnia is brought on by excessive amount of stress and anxiety. The definite causes aren t known, but these psychological factors can play a role in the development of sleep problems. Research shows that the problem initiates as a biological reaction(HPA) to a stressful events and then, conditional on individual differences, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Essay about The Birdcage The Birdcage What attracts us to the movie theatre on Friday nights? Is it the commercials we see? Or is it all the gossip we hear from friends and TV talk shows? Well for many, it is the critiques we read and hear almost every day. One who specializes in the professional evaluation and appreciation of literary or artistic works is a critic. The profession of movie criticism is one of much diversity. Reviews range anywhere from phenomenal to average. Not only are movies created for the entertainment and sheer pleasure of the audience, they create a market of jobs and open doors to the world of financial growth. The success of these films, whether they are tremendous or atrocious, is not only dependent of the actual film, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The result of this, as might be expected, is a hilarious disaster full of outstanding performances. Robin Williams, despite his reputation for unfettered mania, is surprisingly restrained throughout most of The Birdcage, doing a little serious acting along the way. Nathan Lane, playing the effeminate Albert, is the real star, whether he s trying to swagger like John Wayne to act manly or costumed like a housewife. Gene Hackman has the straight man s role, into which he fits wonderfully. The only role that is over the top is Hank Azania as Aggedor, the houseboy for Armand and Albert. The film is so entertaining that it is easy for the unsuspecting viewer not to realize its hidden message. The structure of The Birdcage is designed to show us that there isn t much difference between conservatives and liberals, and on that note, straight and gay people. Hal Hinson, a movie critic of The Washington Post, best describes The Birdcage as a movie of many laughs. In the review titled The Birdcage: A Wingding of a Show, Hinson describes in great detail the setting and plot of this movie, and makes it clear that is what the reader is looking for. However, it is quite clear that he has made the assumption the reader has not yet seen the film. He also assumes that the audience has even the slightest sense of humor. The movie is presented as one for almost any age and for people whom are quite liberal in their views. He goes further to explain the situation the actors are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Organizational Culture and Its Importance There is no single definition for organizational culture. The topic has been studied from a variety of perspectives ranging from disciplines such as anthropology and sociology, to the applied disciplines of organizational behaviour, management science, and organizational communication. Some of the definitions are listed below: A set of common understandings around which action is organized; finding expression in language whose nuances are peculiar to the group (Becker and Geer 1960). A set of understandings or meanings shared by a group of people that are largely tacit among members and are clearly relevant and distinctive to the particular group which are also passed on to new members (Louis 1980). A system of knowledge, of standards ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To understand culture, we must understand all three levels. One additional aspect complicates the study of culture: the group or cultural unit which owns the culture. An organization may have many different cultures or subcultures, or even no discernible dominant culture at the organizational level. Recognizing the cultural unit is essential to identifying and understanding the culture. Organizational cultures are created, maintained, or transformed by people. An organization s culture is, in part, also created and maintained by the organization s leadership. Leaders at the executive level are the principle source for the generation and re infusion of an organization s ideology, articulation of core values and specification of norms. Organizational values express preferences for certain behaviours or certain outcomes. Organizational norms express behaviours accepted by others. They are culturally acceptable ways of pursuing goals. Leaders also establish the parameters for formal lines of communication and message content the formal interaction rules for the organization. Values and norms, once transmitted through the organization, establish the permanence of the organization s culture. ORGANIZATIONAL CULTUREIS ALSO A SYNTHESIS OF SUBCULTURES Sociologists discuss how distinct societies are composites of interacting subcultures rather than a single overarching culture. Organizations consist of subgroups that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. What Are The Metaphors In Lord Of The Ring The Lord of The Ring s trilogy is considered one of the greatest Hollywood films in the century. These films have broken several movie records for the Hollywood industry. Also, these movies relate with an all age audience because of the great development of all the characters in the movie. To be clear, some would say that they feel like they know the characters after watching the trilogy. In my experience after watching the trilogy, it left me in aww because the different aspects of filmit portrayed. Nevertheless, after watching the trilogy twice I became more familiar with some metaphors the author, J.R Tolkien, was trying to reveal. Overall, these metaphors can be seen through the Ring, Gandalf s role and the friendship between Frodo and Sam. Notably the ring is a symbol of pure evil in these trilogies. In these films, anyone that stumbled upon the ring would be overcome by its power and will try to take it. For an example, you can see the power of the ring dividing fellowships throughout these films. To be specific in the beginning of the third movie golem was overcome by the rings power, which led him to kill his best friend. The metaphor of the ring can be classified as the evil in a person s life. Furthermore, J.R Tolkien... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the trilogy Frodo and Sam both developed an unbreakable bond. For example, Sam bared through Frodo s burden of carrying the ring to the end. This is a great friendship for it shows that Sam never gave up on his friend. Also, Sam saved Frodo from the orcs even though Frodo hurt Sam by telling him to go away. This shows a strong bond of friendship even under the trials through their adventures. In the second film Frodo tell Sam I am glad you are here with me. Here at the end of all things, Sam. This is a good example of how a friendship should be. As shown above, the bond between Frodo and Sam is a great role model for a foundation of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Essay On The Christmas Carol I have to say, this play was intriguing to me, with the three interlocking plots, all of which surrounding a common theme; marriages. I am not familiar with this play outside of this class, I had wanted to see the Hollywood adaptation with Kevin Kline, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Stanley Tucci, but I never got around to it. To be honest, I didn t identify with any of the characters or the plot itself, which caused great difficulty in choosing an angle for this paper. The planned marriage between the good natured, appreciative Duke Theseus, who makes the best of everything, and the Amazonian queen, the proud, fastidious Hippolyta was interesting, with a Pagan twist, I enjoy Paganism and Pagan Esque mood, scenery, and feel. • 45. The Combustion Of Household Fuels The Combustion of Household Fuels Introduction Fire, from humans first interactions with it, has been terrifying, delighting, and mysterious all at once. Yet it is impossible to imagine a day passing without any interactions with the phenomenon. From burning wood in the fireplace, to preparing tea on a stove operating with natural gas, to using charcoal for a backyard barbecue, different objects are chosen as the source of combustion depending on the task that they need to accomplish. Furthermore, with parents, teachers, and firefighters incessantly warning students not to place certain substances close to nearby ignition sources, one cannot help but wonder how the chemical characteristics of these substances play a role in determining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Further experiments would then need to be performed to gain a complete understanding of the benefits and consequences of combusting certain fuels. Background Information The combustion of the hydrocarbons and organic molecules found in fuels is a chemical reaction that primarily involves the oxidation of carbon and hydrogen in various compounds to release heat and produce water and carbon dioxide. When the environment lacks sufficient oxygen, rendering oxygen as the limiting reagent in the reaction, incomplete combustion would occur. This involves the production of other chemicals such as carbon monoxide and solid carbon in addition to water and carbon dioxide. The general chemical equations for the incomplete and complete combustion of hydrocarbons are as follows: Complete: CxHy + O2(g) в†’ H2O(l) + CO2(g) Incomplete: CxHy + O2(g) в†’ H2O(l) + CO2(g) + CO(g) + C(s) Of course, the composition of each fuel varies, yet the main organic molecule they contain can be used to formulate the basic chemical reaction that is undergone when each substance is combusted. In the case with fondue fuel, methanol is the main substance that is responsible for combustion and can be represented with the following equation (NIST 2015): 2 CH3OH(l) + 3 O2(g) в†’ 2 CO2(g) + 4 H2O(l),where is 725.7 kJ/mol Fondue fuel is ...
