Building RESTfull Data Services with WebAPIGert Drapers
Data services are a major building block inside a service oriented architecture. Not only do they provide the abstraction and isolation between physical storage systems and the business layer, they can also provide the means for: authentication, authorization, transformation, projection, scale (through for example sharding) and caching. This session will walk you through implementing your RESTfull data service so that you can easily enable and integrate the described capabilities

2012 User Experience in Canada - Work & Salary SurveyLaura B
This survey, conducted in November of 2012, captures information on demographics, work experience and positions, and compensation of UX professionals across Canada. The goal for this survey was to gather up-to-date information about the state of user experience jobs in Canada to help all professionals understand the UX market and opportunities in Canada. It was largely influenced by a similar annual survey from the Information Architecture Institute (IAI), which is fairly US-centric and has low Canadian representation.

Time for a REST - .NET Framework v3.5 & RESTful Web Servicesukdpe
Building Services: .NET FX 3.5, SOAP, REST, and Beyond
Most developers will be aware of various Microsoft technologies to help build SOAP services, the latest of which are WCF and WF in .NET FX 3.5, but there’s another world of services outside SOAP. Recently Microsoft has been very active in its support for, and use of, REST as a mechanism for implementing services. This event will cover recent and forthcoming technologies for building services with SOAP and REST, and we’ll explain REST for the uninitiated.
Agenda:
Session 1: The SOAP Story
In this session we’ll do a lighting quick re-cap of what SOAP is, what specs surround it before looking at how far the SOAP programming model has come in Microsoft’s latest-and-greatest stack – Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) V3.5. We’ll talk about different approaches to building services and we’ll take a good look at the integration between WCF V3.5 and Windows Workflow Foundation (WF) V3.5 which opens up a whole new way of implementing services.
Session 2: Time for a REST
Web applications have evolved; using technologies like AJAX and Silverlight they have rich client-side code that wants to consume services, but they prefer JSON, “plain xml” and REST. In this session we’ll introduce REST for the uninitiated, and we’ll demonstrate some of the new and forthcoming technology that Microsoft has for working with REST: WCF 3.5, Web3S, Windows Live Data, and Codename “Astoria”.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. Some new events were added like the after-synchronous event which is fired just after the update of a list item's properties and just before the user actually sees the new dataAfter events do not support cancellation of the user action. There are two types of event processing that can occur when an After event is raised: synchronous and asynchronous. Synchronous processing provides the ability to run the event in the same thread before sending the Web response back to the browser. Asynchronous event receivers are processed by a separate thread, so processing does not block the flow of code execution. The separate job thread for asynchronous processing is started by methods that reside in classes other than the SPEventReceiverDefinition class

Visual Studio 2010 BDC Designer allows you to develop, debug and deploy Business Data Connectivity Models using the External System type “.NET Assembly Connector”. This type is used for: Aggregation scenarios (across back-ends, across multiple calls to same backend, read from one back-end write to another) Custom/Complex Data Transformations, Custom Security (e.g. where SSO falls short)Custom Business Logic/Rules needed outside the back-end (don’t have good example of this)In addition Visual Studio 2010 BDC designer allows to import models created by SPD customize them, package them and deploy them through the Visual Studio
Sandbox solution is a pretty powerful idea. Oftentimes I've wanted to try out a Web Part that I'd come across on the Web, or just wanted to test one of our own Bamboo Web Parts, and the only way I could try it out in SharePoint 2007 was by deploying it in my virtual environment. This is mainly required because I need farm admin rights to use STSADM deployment. With the sandbox feature I can now be a site collection admin and can still deploy the WSP package. This is good news for developers like me, because now I can quickly deploy a Web Part for testing in my MySite site on our company's portal without breaking anything. This should be quick and easy and could simplify the lives of many. At least in theory.
