3. Aims
Cookstown’s pilot Resource Efficiency Programme aims to:
• Support 40 SMEs whose energy, waste, water/effluent
and raw materials costs are less than £30k p.a.
• Assist businesses in identifying and implementing
resource efficiencies in their businesses.
• Introduce companies to the need and benefits of
becoming more resource efficient, offering flexible,
client-led, practical support to help companies realise
cost savings and competitive advantage through
improvements in resource efficiency.

• 40 Micro/small businesses to receive resource
efficiency Support
• Focus on enhancing competitive advantage through
resource efficiency and showing businesses to utilise
their resources to increase profitability
• Resource Efficiency Audit
• Resource Efficiency Action Plan
• Five Days Specialist Technical Consultancy Support
• Resource Efficiency Seminar

Business Audit and Action Plan
• Cost of waste disposal
• Current bin/ waste collection / segregation system used
• Current recycling processes used and savings achieved
• Total amount of energy, waste, water / effluent and raw
material usage
• Amount and breakdown of type of waste sent to landfill
• Types of resource efficiency tools used and how they are
applied by the business
7. Consultancy Support Available
One-to-one Technical Consultancy Support to include:
• Identification of cleaner processing technologies;
• Opportunities for using renewable energy or
improving efficiency
• Accessing more sustainable water sources
• Minimising product losses
• Reviewing packaging requirements or use
• Environmental or energy management systems
• Equipment specification & identification of suppliers
of more efficient equipment
8. Programme Targets
• Bespoke consultancy support provided to 40
Businesses
• Create a minimum of 5 new jobs
• Sustain a minimum of 120 existing jobs
• Increase overall average resource efficiency of
businesses by up to 5%
• Reduce the levels of Commercial waste being
sent to landfill by local businesses by up to 10%
• Reduce the cost of waste disposal by businesses
by 15%
9. Programme Targets
• Reduce the Carbon Emissions of participating
businesses by providing a cleaner/greener way of
managing waste to lead to a reduction of up to 5%
on business carbon emissions
• Minimum of 5 businesses to develop new
products or adapt existing products
• Assist up to 40 businesses to identify appropriate
bin/waste collection/segregation systems to
manage various types of waste being produced.
• Minimum of 10 companies will be signposted to
other support providers
10. To be eligible for Assistance
Businesses must be:
• Located in the Cookstown District
• Trading for a minimum of six months
• Not in receipt of similar assistance elsewhere
• Have resource costs not totalling more than £30,000 p.a.
