Week No. Progress Update Plan for week
Week 1 In the first week of my media studies a level course I was primarily
introduced to the construction of my coursework by my teacher. During this
process, I was to chose an option from 4 variations. After consultations, I
chose the short film option and thus as my primary research indulged into
learning more about the history of short films and their codes and
conventions.

Week 2 As a part of the schedule for this week I concentrated on the analysis of an
existing short film called Whiplash, which I chose since I was very interested
in the feature film and wanted to investigate the primary idea. Secondly, as
a form of secondary research I decided to get a deeper insight into the
public’s opinion of short films through a survey which would aid in my
construction of my short film. Finally, my last task would be to start my
production diary in order to keep a regular pace with my work.

Week 3 In this following week I focused on creating my initial film ideas. However in
order to expand my creative capacity even more in the process I started by
deepening my insight into my genre of drama I have chosen for my short
film through further analysis’ of other existing film material, specifically
oriented to my film idea and genre, of various formats such as Hollywood’s
production of Flight starring Denzel Washington and a student film of Who
Guards the Guardians. As a more centralized version of research I also
focused on slightly broadening my knowledge of codes and conventions of
drama as a genre since I did not obtain any significant additional knowledge.
After this research I decided to work on creating the synopsis’ and pros &
cons of the initial film ideas in order to be able to narrow down my storyline
to a single format which possibly incorporating different segments of the
initial ideas.
