Weekly Reflection
Week One
What I did: For the first week at college we were introduced to our course and were told about what we will be doing over the next year. From there, we were introduced to our first
project; creating a short film, documentary or some form of media with the theme of “The Role of Social Media”. We were told to come up with ideas by our next session the following
week. I thought about a variety of different ideas. 1.) to create a documentary about the aspects of various social media platforms and how they can effect people both physically and
mentally (this would allow me to explore into a variety of different subjects and even target audiences). 2.) I could create a video essay about a particular film that focuses around and/or
references social media (and how social media is impacted on society, how social media is referenced/used as a theme in the film/documentary and how the said film or documentary is
localized and advertised on social media itself e.g., how the company advertised the film in terms of promotion or trailers as well as how the audience reacted to it).
Progress of the project: Since it is only the first week of college and since we haven’t started this project yet, there is only a limited amount as to what I can do aside from developing
ideas. By the end of the first week I had already thought of a range of ideas that I thought would work with the theme that we had been set. I decided that it would be a good idea to do
some research into some of the films I had thought about (in case I decided to go with my second idea by doing a video essay on a film/documentary that implements social media into
it’s media). Since I had seen the majority of the films that I would want to include in my video essay, I knew that I would have an easier time completing my research and even doing scene
analysis’s. Because I have already had experience whilst doing research because of my time doing the Level 2 and Level 3 courses, I knew that I wouldn’t have a hard time creating work
that I thought was of a good standard.
Skills demonstrated: The skills I demonstrated in this week were; research, planning and efficiency. In order for me to complete my research to a good standard, I had to make sure that
my research was accurate and detailed. This meant that I spent a lot more time doing research than I had originally thought that I would (e.g., I spent a lot of time researching sources and
finding out various amounts of information in order to make my work seem as informative as possible). Since I was still unsure of what I wanted to create I also had to do some extra
research into already existing products as well in order to look into camera shots, lighting and even the actors themselves. I had planned to include variety of information into my project
(e.g., in terms of how the films help to represent social media as a whole and how the films effect the audience.
Tools and method’s employed: Since the first week of college was just an introduction into the course I don’t think that there was much that I could have learned in terms of skills that I
already didn’t know. This is because I have been doing this similar sort of work for my whole time at college so I am used to creating and doing research as well as doing analysing scenes
that I would want to either include in my own project or will use as reference that I can then inspiration for and make better. However since research meant that I had to reference my
sources in the form of a bibliography it meant that I learned how to properly Harvard reference to a standard that I thought was acceptable.
Strengths and weaknesses: Because I have been doing research constantly throughout my entire time at college, I already knew about how I can create a detailed analysis full of both
information and scene analysis (e.g., since one of the documentaries I am talking about often using shots that I thought that I could use in my own product I thought that it would be a
good idea to watch a variety of scenes and do an analysis of each one, making sure that I go into detail about what I liked, disliked and how I could implement this into my own product). I
would consider this a strength since it is something that I am confident in doing and already know how to make it the best that I possibly could. However since I was unsure about what
films I wanted to do, or how many I wanted to do in general for my video essay. As well as the films that I would analyse for a scene analysis if I was going to do a short film, I think that I
spent too much time trying to deciding on what I wanted to do. This meant that I was constantly switching between different films. This meant that my evaluation of said films weren’t
detailed enough. This is something I can easily go back to and edit however.

For the first week at college I only researched into different films
that I thought I could talk about.
At this point in the project I wasn’t sure about what I wanted to
make yet so I thought that I would just looked into various films
that talk about social media and it’s advertisement (since that was
the topic we were given).
Week Two
What I did: For the second week of college we were introduced to the research part of our project. From there we were told to start researching into various existing products that we
could either take inspiration from (e.g., see what methods they used in their own film/documentary, the different camera angles, props and costumes or even the actors) or to just
evaluate. During this time I was still unsure on the type of project that I wanted to make, so I ended up researching into multiple films to see what would work and what I could
implement into my own product (I mainly looked at a variety of films for the possibility that I could end up making a short film so I wanted to look at the different types of camera angles
e.g., for most documentaries the camera focuses on a singular person with a wide shot). After finishing my research into existing products I was still unsure on the type of product that I
wanted to make and decided that I would make an evaluation for both, talking about the different techniques, analysing scenes from the films I had researched into and even look into
audio/colour palettes.
Progress of the project: Since we had been given our first task for our project I primarily focused on that. By the end of the second week I had already completed the first part of my
research, (which was to look into existing products and conduct scene analysis) which allowed me then to focus and think about the different topics that I could talk about/techniques
that I want to include e.g., since, in the end, I decided to go with my 2nd idea and create a short video essay on a film of my choice that fits in with the theme we had been given (The
Social Dilemma) I knew that it would be a good idea to re-watch the documentary and other media published in order to gain more of an understanding. This is so that when it comes to
when I have to do my audio recording I will know a variety of information to talk about (I thought that I also could’ve spoken about the different camera angles, lighting and interviewees
they used in order to convey their message to the audience and how it fits in with social media as a whole). Since finding existing products, evaluating and even coming up with analysis is
something I have been doing from the very start, it wasn’t difficult for me to understand what I needed to do and how I should do it.
Skills demonstrated: The skills I demonstrated in this week were; research, evaluation and analysis. In order for me to create research of a high standard meant that I had to not only
focus on the films that I wanted to look into (and how those could be implemented into my own project) but also on the analysis of the films scenes and even an evaluation of all of this,
talking what I learned and how this will show in my own project. Since I now knew about the type of product I wanted to make, I focused on films that we either similar to the one film
that I wanted to do my video essay on (The Social Dilemma) or were related to the topic we had been given at the start of the project. With the research that I had found, alongside the
analysis and evaluation of those (even the techniques I began to think about using), I think that I have created research to a standard I could be proud of.
Tools and method’s employed: Since I have been doing this form of work since my first time at college, I don’t think that there are anymore types of skills that I can learn. This is because
all the research that I have done up until now have all been similar (in terms of looking into existing products, doing an analysis of said products and then doing a final evaluation of
everything you have looked into, and finally summarizing everything you have learned and how this will impact your product). As mentioned previously I also had to reference all of my
sources into a bibliography, which is something that I had struggled doing correctly previously.
Strengths and weaknesses: I think that a definite strength of my research is that I already knew about the types of films that I wanted to look into (and that I also already had existing
knowledge of the films beforehand due to watching them previously) which meant that I focus primarily on the analysis of certain scenes from the films. This then meant that I could go
into more detail during my whole evaluation of the research talking about what I learned, what I already knew and how I used that knowledge to provide a good and detailed analysis.
Also since I had already decided on the film that I wanted to talk about during my video essay, it meant that I could also begin to think about my planning and even with my script. I think
that this is a most definite strength since it meant that I could focus on one particular thing and not worry about something else.

For the second week we had officially started our
research so I decided to do a scene analysis for each
film that I had already looked into.
Week Three
What I did: For the third week of college we were introduced to the planning part of our project. From there we began to think about our project and how we could go about making it
(i.e., an evaluation of our final idea, techniques we want to include, how our research helped us, health and safety/a risk assessment as well as equipment). During previous projects we
also had to create health and safety/risk assessments for our planning so I already knew how to write up these two parts. After finishing these two parts relatively quickly, I moved onto
the types of techniques I wanted to include (e.g., since I am going to create a video essay I will need to think of different effects/transitions that I can implement into my own product).
During this time I was still unsure on how I wanted to present the information I had gathered for my video essay i.e., did I want to sit in front of the camera and talk or just use and audio
recorder and speak over fair use footage? After exploring ideas for the presentation/technical part of my product/planning, I decided that I would create a schedule that I would be
following for the production process of this project.
Progress of the project: Since this was one of the most important parts of the project, aside from the production making, I made sure that I dedicated both college time and my free time
out of college in order to make it as detailed as I possibly could. By the end of the week I had finished the majority of my planning and had sent it off to be marked so that I can get some
peer feedback from my tutor. This then allowed myself to prep for the next week which would be the start of our production (during the free periods that we had away from college I had
managed to write the whole of my script, so that I could record it at college during the next week, and also had found all of the footage that I would be using to create a video essay).
Since I had already finished the entirety of the planning PowerPoint by the end of the week it meant that I had more time than others in order to make sure that my planning was
thorough with the process of creating the product. This was the best option as it allowed me to ensure that I had everything ready for the first week of production.
Skills demonstrated: The skills I demonstrated in this week were; planning, evaluation, scheduling and analysis. In order for me to create planning of a high standard, I had to focus on the
ideas that I had come up with during my first week of college, evaluate them thoroughly and consider the types of techniques that I could include. Since I knew what I wanted to make, it
made it easier to decide on the types of techniques that I would want to include in my product (which then also made it easier for me to gather footage, since I had already decided on
how I wanted to present my video essay). With the research I have done previously now alongside my planning, I think I have been able to create a product of good standard but also have
research and planning that helps showcase this.
Tools and method’s employed: Similar to previous projects I’ve done at college, the planning aspect was one of the most simplest types of work for me to do. Since I already knew what I
wanted to do and how I wanted to do it, all I had to do with my planning was to explain how I was going to do something and why I was going to do it. Both the research and planning
parts of this project are the same as every other project that we have done so far at college, I was able to finish all of the work relatively quickly. Aside from the idea generation and
evaluation, the techniques, health and safety risk assessments/problem solving, we also had to create a schedule that showcases what we would be doing over the three weeks of our
production.
Strengths and weaknesses: I think that a definite strength of my planning is that I had already thought of different techniques that I could implement into my production during the
production phase. Since I was doing a video essay for my product, I don’t think that there were many techniques that I could include inside of Photoshop. This is because the only form of
editing I would really need to do for my video essay would be to edit my audio and match it with the footage that I had converted beforehand. I don’t think that there were any
weaknesses to my planning since it was something that I was prepared for beforehand. The weaknesses of my planning would depend on the feedback that I would receive my tutor. From
there I would be able to make my planning to an even better standard.
Week Three

We then started our planning PowerPoints where I had
finished the work rather quickly and then had sent it off
to my tutor to receive feedback.
Week Four
What I did: For the fourth week of college we had begun to create our final products for this particular product. From there we began to either shoot footage, find existing footage or
record audio that we would then put into Photoshop and edit (we would follow from our schedule that we had made with our previous planning PowerPoint as well as using any of the
techniques that we had also mentioned). However during my first day of production I found that I was unable to access any of the websites that would allow me to convert the YouTube
video footage I had found and convert them into MP4’s to use. Because I was unable to access any of the websites at college it meant that this was something that I had to do at home on
the Mac I had borrowed. Since I was unable to edit or even gather any footage during the first day of production, I spent the whole day looking at the feedback that I had received and
began to work on making both my planning and research better. During my time at home after coming back from college I made sure that I converted all of the footage I had found and
sent them to myself that I would be able to edit the footage altogether the following day. That same day I had also borrowed an audio recorder so that I could also record everything that
same day, so that I would be able to edit everything relatively quickly. However it turned out that the batteries in the audio recorder weren’t working so it meant that I couldn’t record
anything that day.
Process of the project: Unfortunately I hadn’t made much progress during the first week of production. However I did managed to make up for the lost time by already having the script
for my video essay written as well as being able to put all of my footage into PremierPro which I would then be ready to edit the next week. By the end of the week I had only been set
back a little from the original schedule I had made. Since the audio recorder wasn’t working it meant that I had to re-book the same recorder and then finally record all of my audio during
my time off from college. Since I was already in a good position with all of my previous work, it meant that I could focus on finding extra footage, editing my script if needed and making
sure that I had everything ready for the next week of production. There wasn’t much else that I was able to do that week because I had so many set backs however it meant that I would
be able to get a lot done during the next week.
Skills demonstrated: I don’t think that there were any skills that I had demonstrated that week due to all of the issues that I had (e.g. the issue with not being able to access any of the
converting websites at college as well as not having the audio recorder working which meant that I wasn’t able to record any of my audio either). Since I knew what I was going to make
and how I was going to make it, it meant that I was ready for the second week of production. Unfortunately since I haven’t made much progress with the product making, it meant that I
haven’t been able to demonstrate any skills since I had to simply go back other previous work and improve on them.
Tools and method’s employed: I have had similar experiences with things going wrong during the production phases of projects (i.e., I have had similar experiences where I have either
lost footage or audio). Since I have done these kinds of projects through out my whole time at college, all I needed to do at home was to convert the footage that I was unable to do at
home as well as actually record all of my audio. This project so far has been similar to almost every other project that I have done at college which meant that not only was I experienced
in the written work (i.e., thoroughly analysing existing products and techniques to use in my work) but also with the practical work. Most of the projects we have done have included using
either Photoshop or PremierPro. Aside from the footage and audio recording, I had managed to write the entirety of my script which I thought was one of the most important parts for
me to get done as soon as possible because it would allow me to then record my audio without having to worry about rushing the script.
Strengths and weaknesses: Similar to the skills demonstrated part, I don’t think that there were any strengths or weaknesses during this first week of production (primarily because I
didn’t get any production making done). However I do think that I could’ve checked beforehand to see if the College network would allow me to use such websites, this then meant that I
could’ve converted all of my footage the previous week at home. However I do think that my time management was somewhat adequate because of how I was able to think of solutions
to my issues relatively quickly which then allowed me to get other parts finished that I over wise may not have been able to (i.e., I was able to complete the first half of my peer feedback
because I didn’t have anything else to do during that first day of production).
Week Four

During our first week of production I wasn’t able to
do any work so I focused on doing the feedback I had
received from tutor on the planning PowerPoint.
Week Five
What I did: For our second week of production I was more prepared than I was than the first week. This is because I had converted all of the YouTube videos that I was going to include
into my final production into MP4’s so that I could import them into PremierPro. From there I began to compile all of the footage into PremierPro and began to edit it all together so that
when I had finished my audio recording then I would be able to simply add the audio at the end. However I realized that I wanted the footage that I had chosen to match with the audio
from my script. I wanted to attempt to record the audio at college but I found that the studio had been booked already and that there wasn’t really anywhere else to record the audio in a
quiet space. Since I wasn’t able to find anywhere quiet to record at college it meant that I had to do it at home over the next few days that I wasn’t at college.
Process of the project: I have managed to make a lot more progress than I had the first week of production. However I was once again not able to record my audio due to forgetting to
book the studio for me to record (and I also wasn’t able to find any other room that was quiet enough for me to record). But I was able to experiment with all of the footage that I had
gathered and, in the end, have created a sequence that I think will work with my audio once I had recorded it. By the end of the week I had managed to create the timeline for my video
essay and all I really needed to do was to record my audio and see if it fit in with the sequence. Since I wasn’t able to record at college it meant that I had to once again take the audio
recorder home and do it during my free time (which also didn’t happen). Although I wasn’t where I wanted to be in my production so far, the setbacks allowed me to go back and make
sure that all of my previous work (research, planning and also my script) was up to a good enough standard where I would be able to go back and easily finish it during the half term.
There wasn’t much else to do since the most important part was to record the audio which I would have to do outside of college.
Skills demonstrated: I think that this week the skills I have demonstrated were; experimentation and overall analysis (since the only work that I was able to do that week was
experimenting with footage there weren’t many skills that I could have demonstrated). By the end of the week I had already created a sequence that I thought would work but I had to
wait until I had recorded my audio. Unfortunately I still haven’t made much progress with my production, which means that there isn’t many skills that I would be able to demonstrate.
This week was also dedicated to improving on previous work since there was nothing else for me to do outside of college or at college due to the fact that I couldn’t do the most
important part of my production at this point.
Tools and method’s employed: This week was also dedicated to improving on previous written work since I wasn’t able to record any of my audio and I had already created the sequence
for my video essay, there wasn’t much I could’ve done or demonstrate since I was only doing written work. I would’ve been able to have recorded all of my audio at home already if I had
checked beforehand that the audio recorder I had borrowed was working correctly, this meant that I would’ve been able to avoid all of these problems and instead get all of my
production finished quickly rather than having to wait until when I am next out of college. I have always encountered some form of problem with technology during my projects through
out my time at college (whether that be an issue with the particular software that I am using or an issue with equipment) so it wasn’t surprising that I had a few problems with this project
as well. However I know that this is something that I could’ve avoided easily if I had checked beforehand. Since I have used PremierPro in previous projects I was confident in using the
software and that I would complete my product on time however I had to wait until I was next out of college to fully complete it due to the fact that I still needed to record audio. I had to
record this out of college because I found that every time I wanted to record the studio was either fully booked for the lessons that I wanted or that there was too much background noise
for me to be able to record well.
Strengths and weaknesses: Similar to the previous parts, there wasn’t much to distinguish as either a strength or a weakness since I was mainly just doing written work and there had
been no problems so far with that part. However if I had to think of one then I would say that my time management was a weakness, since my schedule had been useless since I didn't
follow it. Although not being able to do product allowed me to get other bits of work finished, it was something that I could’ve finished after I had finished all of my production work. By
that point I would’ve had more feedback from my tutor and finished all of that written feedback altogether.
Week Five

This week also focused on the feedback from my tutor
since I also unable to complete any production that
week. This time I focused on the feedback from the
research PowerPoint.
Week Six
What I did: For our third week of production I had finally managed to record my audio during my days off from college. This is because I had re-booked out an audio recorder on the
previous Thursday and recorded all of my audio on the following Wednesday, since it was a day where I knew that there would be no background noise at home. During the same week
that I had recorder the audio, on Thursday, I had imported all of them onto the PremierPro file where I had all of my footage and then began to piece all of my work together. However I
found that after importing all of my audio onto PremierPro that I didn’t have enough footage that syncs with the audio that I have (e.g., I had around 2 minutes worth of audio and my
footage only covered around 60% of it). This meant that I had to go back onto YouTube and find extra footage. However since I didn’t want to waste any more time at home or at college
(since I knew I wouldn’t be able to access the converting websites from college – due to them being blocked), I decided that I would do some research to see if I could find any websites
that will allow you to use copyright free stock footage. I ended up finding a website called ‘Pexels’ where I was able to find a variety of stock footage and I even had found a dedicated
section to footage to do with social media and phones. I was able to gather a large amount of footage together but kept scrapping all of the work since I didn’t like how it looked. I went
through this process through out the entirety of the third week of production.
Process of the project: I had managed to make a lot of progress for the week of production. This was because I had finally managed to record all of my audio, which meant that I could
now edit everything together and finally create my product. I also wanted to use some of my time out of college to edit on PremierPro but I found that the software on the laptop that I
had borrowed from college was rather slow and it took too long to edit one simple part of my video essay. By the end of the third week of production I had come up with the start and
middle of the essay (after scrapping multiple ideas because I didn’t like how it looked in the end). Having the extra footage from the free stock footage website allowed me to use all of
the audio that I had recorded which meant that I would be able to include all of the information that I had researched. I also found that when piecing all of my work together that it didn’t
feel like a full video essay or would appear to be too uninteresting so I thought that I would also look into finding copyright free music that I could use in the background.
Skills demonstrated: I think that for this week the skills that I had demonstrated were; experimentation and research (since I also spent a large amount of time looking at different
websites to see what copyright free footage and music that I could use – without having to pay for a subscription). By the end of the week I had finished the start and middle sections of
my video essay. All I needed to do for the final week would be to import the music that I had found, finish the ending to my video essay and go back through all of the sequence to make
sure that it all looks good. This week was also dedicated to making sure that there wasn’t any missing audio that I had forgot to use (this was the same for any footage from the Social
Dilemma trailer – which I had taken fully due to it being entirely copyright free since it was published by the company themselves. I also found that the whole documentary was uploaded
to YouTube by Netflix themselves however when I looked to see if I could convert it, the video had been removed).
Tools and method’s employed: I had finally managed to get actual production work done this week since I had managed to record all of my audio during my free time out of college. In
order to edit all of my footage and audio together, I used PremierPro. The overall process was simple since all I had to do was overlay both my footage and audio together so that the
audio syncs with what is being presented visually. Since I didn’t have a lot of time left to get my production finished I didn’t try any form of techniques, either techniques that will make
the visual aspects of my product look better or audio techniques that will make my product sound better, or try any different kind of transitions to make my product look more appealing.
Since I have used PremierPro often during over projects I already knew how to use all of the software e.g., I knew how to make a simple video by adding both audio and visual aspects.
Strengths and weaknesses: I wouldn’t consider there to be any weaknesses for this week of production since I had finally managed to get all of my audio recorder and was nearly
complete with my video essay by the end of the week. However if I had to think of a weakness then I would consider how I constantly got rid of bits of work and kept experimenting a
weakness of sorts (the reason I kept scrapping bits of work was because I didn’t like how it looked or I didn’t think that it fit with what I was going for in terms of themes). I think that
instead of experimenting or scrapping bits of work that I didn’t like, I should’ve just focused on getting all of my audio and footage onto one sequence and then editing it from there rather
than just editing one bit at a time. I also could’ve asked my tutor for feedback on what I had done and gotten feedback. Although the software didn’t work great on the laptop I was using
at home, I still could’ve attempted to do some form of work for it.

Week Seven
What I did: For the final week of production I finished off with the creation of my video essay. All I needed to do in terms of completion was to finish off the ending to the video essay, add
the background music that I had found previously and go back over all of it to make sure that I hadn’t made any mistakes. I also wanted to make sure that I listened to all of my audio once
again to make sure that there was no background noise (although I knew that I wouldn’t be able to re-record any of it since I didn’t have enough time). I had managed to finish all of this
on the Thursday and was ready to start my evaluation the following day. There wasn’t much I did that week since I only needed to add a few extra parts to my video essay and go through
it a few times to make sure it all looked good and that everything worked correctly (e.g., making sure that the background music wasn’t too loud, that my voice was loud and clear enough
to hear). On the Friday we had then started to look at our evaluation process and began to write. However since we only had one lesson to start it we didn’t get much done.
Process of the project: I had finally managed to complete the whole of my video essay. This meant that I didn’t have to use any of the time that would’ve been dedicated to our
evaluation, which meant that I only needed to focus on that final part of the project. By the end of the day on Thursday I had exported my video essay and uploaded it to YouTube which I
then sent a link to my tutor. Since finishing my product took the whole of the day, there wasn’t anything else that I could’ve done (i.e., I wanted to try and finish it early so that I could get
a head start of the evaluation however I ended up using the full 9:00-18:00 of the college day). For my video essay I ended up using a lot of the stock footage that I had found previously
since I didn’t like a lot of the trailer footage from the documentary (there were parts of the documentary that I liked e.g., parts of the footage or audio. However with those parts it then
cut off to bits of text that I wasn’t able to edit out fully. When I attempted to do so it still showed a second of the text so I decided that I would instead just scrap the idea of using that
footage and simply use the stock footage instead).
Skills demonstrated: I think that the skills I demonstrated this week were; evaluation (this being because I was doing the same as I was doing the previous week with production –
therefore I would demonstrating the same similar skills. I thought evaluation would also work here since I began to start my evaluation during the same week as well). By the end of the
week I had finished the final product, exported it and uploaded it to YouTube and then made a start of my evaluation. All I needed to do for the final week of production was finishing the
ending of my video essay and then adding background music. I made to go back over all previous written work we had done and make sure that there nothing left for me to do (since I
had spent two weeks of production time doing written feedback there wasn’t anything for me to edit or improve on).
Tools and method’s employed: I had managed to finish the entirety of my product during this week. The overall process was simple since I already knew how to use PremierPro and
because I was short on time I didn’t have the opportunity to make the video essay really that visually appealing. All I wanted from my video essay was for the audio and background music
to match with what was being shown visually. In the end the video essay is just a simple video with footage taken from copyright free trailer and stock footage with a voice over and
copyright free background music. Although it isn’t something that stands out too much or isn’t too appealing I think that it’s an acceptable form of media that I’m glad I had just managed
to finish. Using PremierPro was a simple process since I wasn’t trying to do anything too technical and it also helped that I have had experience using it in past projects.
Strengths and weaknesses: I would consider getting my product finished within the time limit of the four weeks we were given is a strength. However I would say all of the issues that I
had encountered during my production time is something that I could’ve avoided had I payed more attention or even checked the equipment beforehand. This would’ve allowed me to
have recorded all of my audio during the second week which would then have potentially have allowed me to get everything edited and exported by the third week. However I had
managed to get through all of the peer feedback I had received from my tutor which allowed me to improve all of my written work. I was freely able to do a lot of written work at home so
I wasn’t worried about that part of the project. I was more worried about not being able to finish my product and would have to spend some of our evaluation time finishing it.

Week Eight/Nine
What I did: For this week we had officially started the process of our evaluation. However we had a trip to the ASFF which took place during our normal Thursday lessons, which meant
that we had skipped out on an entire day of evaluation as well as watching our final products and giving feedback to each other. The week after was fully dedicated to getting our
evaluation finished so that we could move onto our next project. I unfortunately didn’t finish the entirety of my evaluation after that week but decided that it would be something that I
would get finished during my free time out of college the next week. Completing the evaluation wasn’t as difficult as completing the product work since I always found the written work to
be much easier since I already knew what I would be writing. There wasn’t much to do during our supposed ‘first week’ or evaluation since it was a trip to the ASFF but at that point I had
already begun to work on my evaluation and had written a couple of slides by that point. However we needed to wait for our audience feedback which was an important part of the
evaluation process.
Process of the project: We weren’t able to really start our evaluation since we had the trip to the ASFF but we still had the full 9:00-18:00 the next Thursday to get as much done as we
possibly could. We were also expected to do get the evaluation done during our free time as well (which is something that I did since I wasn’t able to get the whole of my evaluation done
during that week – I also experienced a few technical issues with my evaluation where I ended up losing work which then meant that I had to re-do a lot of it). Since I had already gone
back and done all of the improvements I was given from my feedback all I needed left to finish was my evaluation and my production reflection. When I received peer feedback from my
tutor I was told that my product was under the requirement in terms of length which meant that I had to go back and add more. (since there wasn’t enough time I just decided to add
some more text at the end of the video).
Skills demonstrated: For this week the skills I demonstrated were; analysis and evaluation. I think this because the whole of our time after finishing our products was dedicated to our
evaluation, peer feedback and production reflection. The analysis was important because a small part of our evaluation is dedicated toward finding an already existing product and
evaluating it against our own. I had a few issues with this since I wasn’t able to find any products that were similar to my own that were in a video format (when comparing existing
products we had to talk about similarities and differences – however a lot of products that I found about the Social Dilemma were in an article format rather than in the form of an essay).
In the end I decided to go with the article that I had found and compared both mine and the already existing one together.
Tools and method’s employed: I had managed to get a large majority of my evaluation finished by the end of the week so all I needed to do was to complete everything during my free
time out of college. Since we had gotten our feedback during the week after ASFF I could concentrate on getting that finished first so that I can always go back and edit it if I ended up
getting more feedback. Completing the evaluation wasn’t difficult since I already knew what I wanted to write (and that I have done countless evaluations before during my time at
college). Using PowerPoint was a simple process since it’s very easy to use and all I was doing was simply writing paragraphs.
Strengths and weakness: I wouldn’t consider there to be any weaknesses this week either since we were only doing written work and I have never encountered any issues. However I
think that a strength would be that I managed to get all of my work done despite all of the issues I had encountered during this project. I think that there were a lot of issues that I
could’ve solved easily but I think that in the end I was able to create a product/written work that is of a good standard. We had also received feedback from our audiences, from there I
was able to see what went wrong for me and what I could have done to improve.

Weekly reflection (new) (1)

  • 2. Week One What I did: For the first week at college we were introduced to our course and were told about what we will be doing over the next year. From there, we were introduced to our first project; creating a short film, documentary or some form of media with the theme of “The Role of Social Media”. We were told to come up with ideas by our next session the following week. I thought about a variety of different ideas. 1.) to create a documentary about the aspects of various social media platforms and how they can effect people both physically and mentally (this would allow me to explore into a variety of different subjects and even target audiences). 2.) I could create a video essay about a particular film that focuses around and/or references social media (and how social media is impacted on society, how social media is referenced/used as a theme in the film/documentary and how the said film or documentary is localized and advertised on social media itself e.g., how the company advertised the film in terms of promotion or trailers as well as how the audience reacted to it). Progress of the project: Since it is only the first week of college and since we haven’t started this project yet, there is only a limited amount as to what I can do aside from developing ideas. By the end of the first week I had already thought of a range of ideas that I thought would work with the theme that we had been set. I decided that it would be a good idea to do some research into some of the films I had thought about (in case I decided to go with my second idea by doing a video essay on a film/documentary that implements social media into it’s media). Since I had seen the majority of the films that I would want to include in my video essay, I knew that I would have an easier time completing my research and even doing scene analysis’s. Because I have already had experience whilst doing research because of my time doing the Level 2 and Level 3 courses, I knew that I wouldn’t have a hard time creating work that I thought was of a good standard. Skills demonstrated: The skills I demonstrated in this week were; research, planning and efficiency. In order for me to complete my research to a good standard, I had to make sure that my research was accurate and detailed. This meant that I spent a lot more time doing research than I had originally thought that I would (e.g., I spent a lot of time researching sources and finding out various amounts of information in order to make my work seem as informative as possible). Since I was still unsure of what I wanted to create I also had to do some extra research into already existing products as well in order to look into camera shots, lighting and even the actors themselves. I had planned to include variety of information into my project (e.g., in terms of how the films help to represent social media as a whole and how the films effect the audience. Tools and method’s employed: Since the first week of college was just an introduction into the course I don’t think that there was much that I could have learned in terms of skills that I already didn’t know. This is because I have been doing this similar sort of work for my whole time at college so I am used to creating and doing research as well as doing analysing scenes that I would want to either include in my own project or will use as reference that I can then inspiration for and make better. However since research meant that I had to reference my sources in the form of a bibliography it meant that I learned how to properly Harvard reference to a standard that I thought was acceptable. Strengths and weaknesses: Because I have been doing research constantly throughout my entire time at college, I already knew about how I can create a detailed analysis full of both information and scene analysis (e.g., since one of the documentaries I am talking about often using shots that I thought that I could use in my own product I thought that it would be a good idea to watch a variety of scenes and do an analysis of each one, making sure that I go into detail about what I liked, disliked and how I could implement this into my own product). I would consider this a strength since it is something that I am confident in doing and already know how to make it the best that I possibly could. However since I was unsure about what films I wanted to do, or how many I wanted to do in general for my video essay. As well as the films that I would analyse for a scene analysis if I was going to do a short film, I think that I spent too much time trying to deciding on what I wanted to do. This meant that I was constantly switching between different films. This meant that my evaluation of said films weren’t detailed enough. This is something I can easily go back to and edit however.
  • 3. Week One - Screenshots For the first week at college I only researched into different films that I thought I could talk about. At this point in the project I wasn’t sure about what I wanted to make yet so I thought that I would just looked into various films that talk about social media and it’s advertisement (since that was the topic we were given).
  • 4. Week Two What I did: For the second week of college we were introduced to the research part of our project. From there we were told to start researching into various existing products that we could either take inspiration from (e.g., see what methods they used in their own film/documentary, the different camera angles, props and costumes or even the actors) or to just evaluate. During this time I was still unsure on the type of project that I wanted to make, so I ended up researching into multiple films to see what would work and what I could implement into my own product (I mainly looked at a variety of films for the possibility that I could end up making a short film so I wanted to look at the different types of camera angles e.g., for most documentaries the camera focuses on a singular person with a wide shot). After finishing my research into existing products I was still unsure on the type of product that I wanted to make and decided that I would make an evaluation for both, talking about the different techniques, analysing scenes from the films I had researched into and even look into audio/colour palettes. Progress of the project: Since we had been given our first task for our project I primarily focused on that. By the end of the second week I had already completed the first part of my research, (which was to look into existing products and conduct scene analysis) which allowed me then to focus and think about the different topics that I could talk about/techniques that I want to include e.g., since, in the end, I decided to go with my 2nd idea and create a short video essay on a film of my choice that fits in with the theme we had been given (The Social Dilemma) I knew that it would be a good idea to re-watch the documentary and other media published in order to gain more of an understanding. This is so that when it comes to when I have to do my audio recording I will know a variety of information to talk about (I thought that I also could’ve spoken about the different camera angles, lighting and interviewees they used in order to convey their message to the audience and how it fits in with social media as a whole). Since finding existing products, evaluating and even coming up with analysis is something I have been doing from the very start, it wasn’t difficult for me to understand what I needed to do and how I should do it. Skills demonstrated: The skills I demonstrated in this week were; research, evaluation and analysis. In order for me to create research of a high standard meant that I had to not only focus on the films that I wanted to look into (and how those could be implemented into my own project) but also on the analysis of the films scenes and even an evaluation of all of this, talking what I learned and how this will show in my own project. Since I now knew about the type of product I wanted to make, I focused on films that we either similar to the one film that I wanted to do my video essay on (The Social Dilemma) or were related to the topic we had been given at the start of the project. With the research that I had found, alongside the analysis and evaluation of those (even the techniques I began to think about using), I think that I have created research to a standard I could be proud of. Tools and method’s employed: Since I have been doing this form of work since my first time at college, I don’t think that there are anymore types of skills that I can learn. This is because all the research that I have done up until now have all been similar (in terms of looking into existing products, doing an analysis of said products and then doing a final evaluation of everything you have looked into, and finally summarizing everything you have learned and how this will impact your product). As mentioned previously I also had to reference all of my sources into a bibliography, which is something that I had struggled doing correctly previously. Strengths and weaknesses: I think that a definite strength of my research is that I already knew about the types of films that I wanted to look into (and that I also already had existing knowledge of the films beforehand due to watching them previously) which meant that I focus primarily on the analysis of certain scenes from the films. This then meant that I could go into more detail during my whole evaluation of the research talking about what I learned, what I already knew and how I used that knowledge to provide a good and detailed analysis. Also since I had already decided on the film that I wanted to talk about during my video essay, it meant that I could also begin to think about my planning and even with my script. I think that this is a most definite strength since it meant that I could focus on one particular thing and not worry about something else.
  • 5. Week Two - Screenshots For the second week we had officially started our research so I decided to do a scene analysis for each film that I had already looked into.
  • 6. Week Three What I did: For the third week of college we were introduced to the planning part of our project. From there we began to think about our project and how we could go about making it (i.e., an evaluation of our final idea, techniques we want to include, how our research helped us, health and safety/a risk assessment as well as equipment). During previous projects we also had to create health and safety/risk assessments for our planning so I already knew how to write up these two parts. After finishing these two parts relatively quickly, I moved onto the types of techniques I wanted to include (e.g., since I am going to create a video essay I will need to think of different effects/transitions that I can implement into my own product). During this time I was still unsure on how I wanted to present the information I had gathered for my video essay i.e., did I want to sit in front of the camera and talk or just use and audio recorder and speak over fair use footage? After exploring ideas for the presentation/technical part of my product/planning, I decided that I would create a schedule that I would be following for the production process of this project. Progress of the project: Since this was one of the most important parts of the project, aside from the production making, I made sure that I dedicated both college time and my free time out of college in order to make it as detailed as I possibly could. By the end of the week I had finished the majority of my planning and had sent it off to be marked so that I can get some peer feedback from my tutor. This then allowed myself to prep for the next week which would be the start of our production (during the free periods that we had away from college I had managed to write the whole of my script, so that I could record it at college during the next week, and also had found all of the footage that I would be using to create a video essay). Since I had already finished the entirety of the planning PowerPoint by the end of the week it meant that I had more time than others in order to make sure that my planning was thorough with the process of creating the product. This was the best option as it allowed me to ensure that I had everything ready for the first week of production. Skills demonstrated: The skills I demonstrated in this week were; planning, evaluation, scheduling and analysis. In order for me to create planning of a high standard, I had to focus on the ideas that I had come up with during my first week of college, evaluate them thoroughly and consider the types of techniques that I could include. Since I knew what I wanted to make, it made it easier to decide on the types of techniques that I would want to include in my product (which then also made it easier for me to gather footage, since I had already decided on how I wanted to present my video essay). With the research I have done previously now alongside my planning, I think I have been able to create a product of good standard but also have research and planning that helps showcase this. Tools and method’s employed: Similar to previous projects I’ve done at college, the planning aspect was one of the most simplest types of work for me to do. Since I already knew what I wanted to do and how I wanted to do it, all I had to do with my planning was to explain how I was going to do something and why I was going to do it. Both the research and planning parts of this project are the same as every other project that we have done so far at college, I was able to finish all of the work relatively quickly. Aside from the idea generation and evaluation, the techniques, health and safety risk assessments/problem solving, we also had to create a schedule that showcases what we would be doing over the three weeks of our production. Strengths and weaknesses: I think that a definite strength of my planning is that I had already thought of different techniques that I could implement into my production during the production phase. Since I was doing a video essay for my product, I don’t think that there were many techniques that I could include inside of Photoshop. This is because the only form of editing I would really need to do for my video essay would be to edit my audio and match it with the footage that I had converted beforehand. I don’t think that there were any weaknesses to my planning since it was something that I was prepared for beforehand. The weaknesses of my planning would depend on the feedback that I would receive my tutor. From there I would be able to make my planning to an even better standard.
  • 7. Week Three - Screenshots We then started our planning PowerPoints where I had finished the work rather quickly and then had sent it off to my tutor to receive feedback.
  • 8. Week Four What I did: For the fourth week of college we had begun to create our final products for this particular product. From there we began to either shoot footage, find existing footage or record audio that we would then put into Photoshop and edit (we would follow from our schedule that we had made with our previous planning PowerPoint as well as using any of the techniques that we had also mentioned). However during my first day of production I found that I was unable to access any of the websites that would allow me to convert the YouTube video footage I had found and convert them into MP4’s to use. Because I was unable to access any of the websites at college it meant that this was something that I had to do at home on the Mac I had borrowed. Since I was unable to edit or even gather any footage during the first day of production, I spent the whole day looking at the feedback that I had received and began to work on making both my planning and research better. During my time at home after coming back from college I made sure that I converted all of the footage I had found and sent them to myself that I would be able to edit the footage altogether the following day. That same day I had also borrowed an audio recorder so that I could also record everything that same day, so that I would be able to edit everything relatively quickly. However it turned out that the batteries in the audio recorder weren’t working so it meant that I couldn’t record anything that day. Process of the project: Unfortunately I hadn’t made much progress during the first week of production. However I did managed to make up for the lost time by already having the script for my video essay written as well as being able to put all of my footage into PremierPro which I would then be ready to edit the next week. By the end of the week I had only been set back a little from the original schedule I had made. Since the audio recorder wasn’t working it meant that I had to re-book the same recorder and then finally record all of my audio during my time off from college. Since I was already in a good position with all of my previous work, it meant that I could focus on finding extra footage, editing my script if needed and making sure that I had everything ready for the next week of production. There wasn’t much else that I was able to do that week because I had so many set backs however it meant that I would be able to get a lot done during the next week. Skills demonstrated: I don’t think that there were any skills that I had demonstrated that week due to all of the issues that I had (e.g. the issue with not being able to access any of the converting websites at college as well as not having the audio recorder working which meant that I wasn’t able to record any of my audio either). Since I knew what I was going to make and how I was going to make it, it meant that I was ready for the second week of production. Unfortunately since I haven’t made much progress with the product making, it meant that I haven’t been able to demonstrate any skills since I had to simply go back other previous work and improve on them. Tools and method’s employed: I have had similar experiences with things going wrong during the production phases of projects (i.e., I have had similar experiences where I have either lost footage or audio). Since I have done these kinds of projects through out my whole time at college, all I needed to do at home was to convert the footage that I was unable to do at home as well as actually record all of my audio. This project so far has been similar to almost every other project that I have done at college which meant that not only was I experienced in the written work (i.e., thoroughly analysing existing products and techniques to use in my work) but also with the practical work. Most of the projects we have done have included using either Photoshop or PremierPro. Aside from the footage and audio recording, I had managed to write the entirety of my script which I thought was one of the most important parts for me to get done as soon as possible because it would allow me to then record my audio without having to worry about rushing the script. Strengths and weaknesses: Similar to the skills demonstrated part, I don’t think that there were any strengths or weaknesses during this first week of production (primarily because I didn’t get any production making done). However I do think that I could’ve checked beforehand to see if the College network would allow me to use such websites, this then meant that I could’ve converted all of my footage the previous week at home. However I do think that my time management was somewhat adequate because of how I was able to think of solutions to my issues relatively quickly which then allowed me to get other parts finished that I over wise may not have been able to (i.e., I was able to complete the first half of my peer feedback because I didn’t have anything else to do during that first day of production).
  • 9. Week Four - Screenshots During our first week of production I wasn’t able to do any work so I focused on doing the feedback I had received from tutor on the planning PowerPoint.
  • 10. Week Five What I did: For our second week of production I was more prepared than I was than the first week. This is because I had converted all of the YouTube videos that I was going to include into my final production into MP4’s so that I could import them into PremierPro. From there I began to compile all of the footage into PremierPro and began to edit it all together so that when I had finished my audio recording then I would be able to simply add the audio at the end. However I realized that I wanted the footage that I had chosen to match with the audio from my script. I wanted to attempt to record the audio at college but I found that the studio had been booked already and that there wasn’t really anywhere else to record the audio in a quiet space. Since I wasn’t able to find anywhere quiet to record at college it meant that I had to do it at home over the next few days that I wasn’t at college. Process of the project: I have managed to make a lot more progress than I had the first week of production. However I was once again not able to record my audio due to forgetting to book the studio for me to record (and I also wasn’t able to find any other room that was quiet enough for me to record). But I was able to experiment with all of the footage that I had gathered and, in the end, have created a sequence that I think will work with my audio once I had recorded it. By the end of the week I had managed to create the timeline for my video essay and all I really needed to do was to record my audio and see if it fit in with the sequence. Since I wasn’t able to record at college it meant that I had to once again take the audio recorder home and do it during my free time (which also didn’t happen). Although I wasn’t where I wanted to be in my production so far, the setbacks allowed me to go back and make sure that all of my previous work (research, planning and also my script) was up to a good enough standard where I would be able to go back and easily finish it during the half term. There wasn’t much else to do since the most important part was to record the audio which I would have to do outside of college. Skills demonstrated: I think that this week the skills I have demonstrated were; experimentation and overall analysis (since the only work that I was able to do that week was experimenting with footage there weren’t many skills that I could have demonstrated). By the end of the week I had already created a sequence that I thought would work but I had to wait until I had recorded my audio. Unfortunately I still haven’t made much progress with my production, which means that there isn’t many skills that I would be able to demonstrate. This week was also dedicated to improving on previous work since there was nothing else for me to do outside of college or at college due to the fact that I couldn’t do the most important part of my production at this point. Tools and method’s employed: This week was also dedicated to improving on previous written work since I wasn’t able to record any of my audio and I had already created the sequence for my video essay, there wasn’t much I could’ve done or demonstrate since I was only doing written work. I would’ve been able to have recorded all of my audio at home already if I had checked beforehand that the audio recorder I had borrowed was working correctly, this meant that I would’ve been able to avoid all of these problems and instead get all of my production finished quickly rather than having to wait until when I am next out of college. I have always encountered some form of problem with technology during my projects through out my time at college (whether that be an issue with the particular software that I am using or an issue with equipment) so it wasn’t surprising that I had a few problems with this project as well. However I know that this is something that I could’ve avoided easily if I had checked beforehand. Since I have used PremierPro in previous projects I was confident in using the software and that I would complete my product on time however I had to wait until I was next out of college to fully complete it due to the fact that I still needed to record audio. I had to record this out of college because I found that every time I wanted to record the studio was either fully booked for the lessons that I wanted or that there was too much background noise for me to be able to record well. Strengths and weaknesses: Similar to the previous parts, there wasn’t much to distinguish as either a strength or a weakness since I was mainly just doing written work and there had been no problems so far with that part. However if I had to think of one then I would say that my time management was a weakness, since my schedule had been useless since I didn't follow it. Although not being able to do product allowed me to get other bits of work finished, it was something that I could’ve finished after I had finished all of my production work. By that point I would’ve had more feedback from my tutor and finished all of that written feedback altogether.
  • 11. Week Five - Screenshots This week also focused on the feedback from my tutor since I also unable to complete any production that week. This time I focused on the feedback from the research PowerPoint.
  • 12. Week Six What I did: For our third week of production I had finally managed to record my audio during my days off from college. This is because I had re-booked out an audio recorder on the previous Thursday and recorded all of my audio on the following Wednesday, since it was a day where I knew that there would be no background noise at home. During the same week that I had recorder the audio, on Thursday, I had imported all of them onto the PremierPro file where I had all of my footage and then began to piece all of my work together. However I found that after importing all of my audio onto PremierPro that I didn’t have enough footage that syncs with the audio that I have (e.g., I had around 2 minutes worth of audio and my footage only covered around 60% of it). This meant that I had to go back onto YouTube and find extra footage. However since I didn’t want to waste any more time at home or at college (since I knew I wouldn’t be able to access the converting websites from college – due to them being blocked), I decided that I would do some research to see if I could find any websites that will allow you to use copyright free stock footage. I ended up finding a website called ‘Pexels’ where I was able to find a variety of stock footage and I even had found a dedicated section to footage to do with social media and phones. I was able to gather a large amount of footage together but kept scrapping all of the work since I didn’t like how it looked. I went through this process through out the entirety of the third week of production. Process of the project: I had managed to make a lot of progress for the week of production. This was because I had finally managed to record all of my audio, which meant that I could now edit everything together and finally create my product. I also wanted to use some of my time out of college to edit on PremierPro but I found that the software on the laptop that I had borrowed from college was rather slow and it took too long to edit one simple part of my video essay. By the end of the third week of production I had come up with the start and middle of the essay (after scrapping multiple ideas because I didn’t like how it looked in the end). Having the extra footage from the free stock footage website allowed me to use all of the audio that I had recorded which meant that I would be able to include all of the information that I had researched. I also found that when piecing all of my work together that it didn’t feel like a full video essay or would appear to be too uninteresting so I thought that I would also look into finding copyright free music that I could use in the background. Skills demonstrated: I think that for this week the skills that I had demonstrated were; experimentation and research (since I also spent a large amount of time looking at different websites to see what copyright free footage and music that I could use – without having to pay for a subscription). By the end of the week I had finished the start and middle sections of my video essay. All I needed to do for the final week would be to import the music that I had found, finish the ending to my video essay and go back through all of the sequence to make sure that it all looks good. This week was also dedicated to making sure that there wasn’t any missing audio that I had forgot to use (this was the same for any footage from the Social Dilemma trailer – which I had taken fully due to it being entirely copyright free since it was published by the company themselves. I also found that the whole documentary was uploaded to YouTube by Netflix themselves however when I looked to see if I could convert it, the video had been removed). Tools and method’s employed: I had finally managed to get actual production work done this week since I had managed to record all of my audio during my free time out of college. In order to edit all of my footage and audio together, I used PremierPro. The overall process was simple since all I had to do was overlay both my footage and audio together so that the audio syncs with what is being presented visually. Since I didn’t have a lot of time left to get my production finished I didn’t try any form of techniques, either techniques that will make the visual aspects of my product look better or audio techniques that will make my product sound better, or try any different kind of transitions to make my product look more appealing. Since I have used PremierPro often during over projects I already knew how to use all of the software e.g., I knew how to make a simple video by adding both audio and visual aspects. Strengths and weaknesses: I wouldn’t consider there to be any weaknesses for this week of production since I had finally managed to get all of my audio recorder and was nearly complete with my video essay by the end of the week. However if I had to think of a weakness then I would consider how I constantly got rid of bits of work and kept experimenting a weakness of sorts (the reason I kept scrapping bits of work was because I didn’t like how it looked or I didn’t think that it fit with what I was going for in terms of themes). I think that instead of experimenting or scrapping bits of work that I didn’t like, I should’ve just focused on getting all of my audio and footage onto one sequence and then editing it from there rather than just editing one bit at a time. I also could’ve asked my tutor for feedback on what I had done and gotten feedback. Although the software didn’t work great on the laptop I was using at home, I still could’ve attempted to do some form of work for it.
  • 14. Week Seven What I did: For the final week of production I finished off with the creation of my video essay. All I needed to do in terms of completion was to finish off the ending to the video essay, add the background music that I had found previously and go back over all of it to make sure that I hadn’t made any mistakes. I also wanted to make sure that I listened to all of my audio once again to make sure that there was no background noise (although I knew that I wouldn’t be able to re-record any of it since I didn’t have enough time). I had managed to finish all of this on the Thursday and was ready to start my evaluation the following day. There wasn’t much I did that week since I only needed to add a few extra parts to my video essay and go through it a few times to make sure it all looked good and that everything worked correctly (e.g., making sure that the background music wasn’t too loud, that my voice was loud and clear enough to hear). On the Friday we had then started to look at our evaluation process and began to write. However since we only had one lesson to start it we didn’t get much done. Process of the project: I had finally managed to complete the whole of my video essay. This meant that I didn’t have to use any of the time that would’ve been dedicated to our evaluation, which meant that I only needed to focus on that final part of the project. By the end of the day on Thursday I had exported my video essay and uploaded it to YouTube which I then sent a link to my tutor. Since finishing my product took the whole of the day, there wasn’t anything else that I could’ve done (i.e., I wanted to try and finish it early so that I could get a head start of the evaluation however I ended up using the full 9:00-18:00 of the college day). For my video essay I ended up using a lot of the stock footage that I had found previously since I didn’t like a lot of the trailer footage from the documentary (there were parts of the documentary that I liked e.g., parts of the footage or audio. However with those parts it then cut off to bits of text that I wasn’t able to edit out fully. When I attempted to do so it still showed a second of the text so I decided that I would instead just scrap the idea of using that footage and simply use the stock footage instead). Skills demonstrated: I think that the skills I demonstrated this week were; evaluation (this being because I was doing the same as I was doing the previous week with production – therefore I would demonstrating the same similar skills. I thought evaluation would also work here since I began to start my evaluation during the same week as well). By the end of the week I had finished the final product, exported it and uploaded it to YouTube and then made a start of my evaluation. All I needed to do for the final week of production was finishing the ending of my video essay and then adding background music. I made to go back over all previous written work we had done and make sure that there nothing left for me to do (since I had spent two weeks of production time doing written feedback there wasn’t anything for me to edit or improve on). Tools and method’s employed: I had managed to finish the entirety of my product during this week. The overall process was simple since I already knew how to use PremierPro and because I was short on time I didn’t have the opportunity to make the video essay really that visually appealing. All I wanted from my video essay was for the audio and background music to match with what was being shown visually. In the end the video essay is just a simple video with footage taken from copyright free trailer and stock footage with a voice over and copyright free background music. Although it isn’t something that stands out too much or isn’t too appealing I think that it’s an acceptable form of media that I’m glad I had just managed to finish. Using PremierPro was a simple process since I wasn’t trying to do anything too technical and it also helped that I have had experience using it in past projects. Strengths and weaknesses: I would consider getting my product finished within the time limit of the four weeks we were given is a strength. However I would say all of the issues that I had encountered during my production time is something that I could’ve avoided had I payed more attention or even checked the equipment beforehand. This would’ve allowed me to have recorded all of my audio during the second week which would then have potentially have allowed me to get everything edited and exported by the third week. However I had managed to get through all of the peer feedback I had received from my tutor which allowed me to improve all of my written work. I was freely able to do a lot of written work at home so I wasn’t worried about that part of the project. I was more worried about not being able to finish my product and would have to spend some of our evaluation time finishing it.
  • 16. Week Eight/Nine What I did: For this week we had officially started the process of our evaluation. However we had a trip to the ASFF which took place during our normal Thursday lessons, which meant that we had skipped out on an entire day of evaluation as well as watching our final products and giving feedback to each other. The week after was fully dedicated to getting our evaluation finished so that we could move onto our next project. I unfortunately didn’t finish the entirety of my evaluation after that week but decided that it would be something that I would get finished during my free time out of college the next week. Completing the evaluation wasn’t as difficult as completing the product work since I always found the written work to be much easier since I already knew what I would be writing. There wasn’t much to do during our supposed ‘first week’ or evaluation since it was a trip to the ASFF but at that point I had already begun to work on my evaluation and had written a couple of slides by that point. However we needed to wait for our audience feedback which was an important part of the evaluation process. Process of the project: We weren’t able to really start our evaluation since we had the trip to the ASFF but we still had the full 9:00-18:00 the next Thursday to get as much done as we possibly could. We were also expected to do get the evaluation done during our free time as well (which is something that I did since I wasn’t able to get the whole of my evaluation done during that week – I also experienced a few technical issues with my evaluation where I ended up losing work which then meant that I had to re-do a lot of it). Since I had already gone back and done all of the improvements I was given from my feedback all I needed left to finish was my evaluation and my production reflection. When I received peer feedback from my tutor I was told that my product was under the requirement in terms of length which meant that I had to go back and add more. (since there wasn’t enough time I just decided to add some more text at the end of the video). Skills demonstrated: For this week the skills I demonstrated were; analysis and evaluation. I think this because the whole of our time after finishing our products was dedicated to our evaluation, peer feedback and production reflection. The analysis was important because a small part of our evaluation is dedicated toward finding an already existing product and evaluating it against our own. I had a few issues with this since I wasn’t able to find any products that were similar to my own that were in a video format (when comparing existing products we had to talk about similarities and differences – however a lot of products that I found about the Social Dilemma were in an article format rather than in the form of an essay). In the end I decided to go with the article that I had found and compared both mine and the already existing one together. Tools and method’s employed: I had managed to get a large majority of my evaluation finished by the end of the week so all I needed to do was to complete everything during my free time out of college. Since we had gotten our feedback during the week after ASFF I could concentrate on getting that finished first so that I can always go back and edit it if I ended up getting more feedback. Completing the evaluation wasn’t difficult since I already knew what I wanted to write (and that I have done countless evaluations before during my time at college). Using PowerPoint was a simple process since it’s very easy to use and all I was doing was simply writing paragraphs. Strengths and weakness: I wouldn’t consider there to be any weaknesses this week either since we were only doing written work and I have never encountered any issues. However I think that a strength would be that I managed to get all of my work done despite all of the issues I had encountered during this project. I think that there were a lot of issues that I could’ve solved easily but I think that in the end I was able to create a product/written work that is of a good standard. We had also received feedback from our audiences, from there I was able to see what went wrong for me and what I could have done to improve.
