Urban noise pollution is increasing health risks and economic costs. Noise levels from transport have risen dramatically since the mid-20th century, with more people living in urban areas. This causes health problems that reduce productivity by 0.2-2% of GDP in the US and costs the EU between $13-38 billion per year. Traffic noise also depreciates property values near high noise levels. A study measured noise levels of different vehicle types at varying speeds to classify subgroups and determine average noise levels.
