perspectives relating to self, management and professional development. The author will go through
his own self analysis of his own strengths and weaknesses using various tools to prepare himself for
future development as a competent manager. Measurement of Personality? Longman dictionary by
(ed. Della, 1987, p.767) defines the meaning of personality as the whole nature or character of a
particular person . In Organisational Behaviour, we are looking at how our personalities affect our
career development and how suitable we are for a job role. Therefore the measurement of personality
in organisation becomes an important part in predicting an employee s success for a job. Answering a
list of personal questions when put to a certain situation through the means of self analysis is often call

Eve Marche s Iron Cross
Beneath the nurses apron Eve Marche wears to tend German and Allied troops, beats the heart of a
MI6 spy. Pinned to it is the Iron Cross she was awarded for saving Major Otto Reinhardt. While the
cross provides an element of protection from the Bosch it also invites scornful glares from fellow
Belgians. She can t tell them the truth, no one must know no one outside her family of her
involvement in the La Dame Blanch network. In her third novel, Kate Breslin dials up the danger and
intrigue for a story I could not put down!
Breslin s interplay between the greater European conflict (WWI), local resistance, and one woman s
remarkable stand against evil is brilliant. She accomplishes the first by using Belgium as her primary

Imf And World Bank Group
IMF and World Bank Group
The IMF (International Monetary Fund) and World Bank were both founded in 1944, during a UN
conference held in Bretton Woods in the United States.
Delegates specializing in the field of economic policy attended from 44 countries, with the shared goal
of establishing a framework of economic cooperation, in the hope of avoiding future financial
instability on a scale witnessed during the Great Depression of the 1930 s.
The IMF is currently accountable to and governed by 189 countries, all of which play a part in
delivering its primary goals of promoting international financial stability and monetary cooperation,
through its activities of Surveillance, Financial, and Technical Assistance. (Imforg, 2016)

The Dam is one of many to be constructed to provide an irrigation system known as the Sardar Sarova
Project, that will eventually span across three Indian states (75,000km). (Lirnnet, 2016)
The controversy around the World Bank s involvement in the project started when it approved its loan
for the Narmada Dam two years ahead of the Ministry of Environments provided their endorsements
to proceed, which directly contravenes World Bank policies. (Umichedu, 2016)
A formal request was raised by the Save the Narmada movement (NBA) in 1988 for work on the
Narmada Projects to stop, while concerns around government resettlement and rehabilitation programs
were still continuing to being addressed. (Umichedu, 2016) The World Bank assembled an

The findings of the independent review committee (Morse Report) published in 1992, were found to
endorse the main concerns of the NBA. The World Bank unhappy with their conclusions responded by
sending out the Pamela Cox Committee, whose findings completely contradicted those presented in
the Morse Report.
The World Bank eventually withdrawal their funding for the project, in response to the mounting
international pressure they received regarding the Pamela Cox

Essay on The Namesake

Sociology
The Namesake
A Bengali girl named Ashima partakes in a marriage arranged to Ashoke Ganguli. After the ceremony
the new couple left India to move to the United States where Ashoke has started to build a new life.
They were going to face the cultural differences together, as one. For Ashima, this was difficult. Her
new husband had to earn a living to support the two of them so she often found herself home alone.
Not knowing the English language or culture at that became very depressing for her she felt lonely and
lost. After a while the couple gave birth to a baby boy. Ashoke makes the decision to call his newborn,
Gogol, after a Russian author. Later his American name becomes Nicky. The happy parents later give

She was a second generation Bengali like himself. At first Gogol was timid but ended up falling for
her. The two of them got married and expected life to be perfect and full of lust. But after getting to
know each other better they see how different their personalities are. Moushumi ends up cheating on
Gogol, ending their marriage. Throughout the whole movie, Gogol is struggling to find himself and
where he belongs. After his failed marriage Gogol realizes that he must be alone to embrace who he
really is. Gogol chooses stays in the U.S. when Ashima makes the decision to return to her homeland.
She offers to stay and help him but Gogol refuses. He insists she return to India while he lives happier
then ever in the U.S. by himself.
The movie The Namesake is an excellent movie when trying to put yourself in someone else s shoes.
It gives you a look at how difficult it is to adjust and live happily in a foreign environment. Americans
normally stereotypically categorize immigrants of particular cultures. Making it extremely stressful
for them to adjust as I learned from this film immigrants come to America for a better life. Meaning
they are willing to change their ways and become an American. Most of us refuse to give them the
time of day, even though they try. I had very little knowledge about Indian culture and traditions
previous to watching this movie. For example I did not realize how young these women are when
taking the step to get married.

Autism Spectrum, Asperger, And Pervasive Development Disorder
The autism spectrum consists of three main disorders, autism, Asperger s, and pervasive development
disorder not otherwise specified (PDD NOS). One issue regarding disorders on the autism spectrum is
the minimal research funding for them. While treatable diseases are heavily studied due to the search
for a cure, the disorders on the autism spectrum cannot be treated. The complication of limited funding
is that people are not dealing with ASD (autism spectrum disorder) correctly, which worsens the
situation for affected people. Further financing is needed to educate people on how to handle and deal
with disorders such as these. Individuals on the autism spectrum have to live with the disorder for the
entirety of their lives, and when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A study done on the reliance of proprioception and atypical visuo tactile temporal binding describes an
experiment testing a child s ability to recognize the difference between a faux hand and their own.
Proprioception is how one recognizes their bodily functions and personal control, while visuo tactile
temporal binding is the recognition of the body itself. The psychology students that administered the
study concluded afterwards that there is a lack of visuo tactile temporal binding in people with autism.
With this information, psychologists could work towards the development of new types of therapy
focused on expanding the visuo tactile temporal binding of individuals with this disorder (Greenfield).
The strengthening of social aptitude in people with autism was explored through an acting seminar in
Ohio, hosted by a highly regarded psychologist, Kelly Hunter. People from the area were invited to
attend the seminar to become further aware of the social dysfunction in people with autism. By
working on facial expressions, Hunter was helping the autism community learn how to recognize and
use social cues in a standard environment. If more people become willing to take time such as this to
enhance their knowledge on autism, our society could possibly fund new research projects to better
understand individuals with autism (Makin).

The True Characteristics Of Characters In The Wonder Woman
Releasing a movie alongside the likes of Batman vs Superman and Suicide Squad doesn t make it hard
for a movie to show audience a good film. However, Wonder Woman was able to not only achieve this
effortless victory, but also bring a distinction to franchise that desperately needed saving. Not only
was this origin story able to stand alone but it was also able to weave itself into the distinct top origin
movies of all time. The shining point of this film is the exceptional characters who are gracefully
written and exquisitely performed.
While the movie has many praiseworthy qualities such as it s CGI, cinematography, and directing; the
true strength of the movie lies in it s characters. The main hindering element in many superhero
movies is it s primitive, rudimentary characters. Wonder Woman does not contain this handicap. The
director, Patty Jenkins, creates dynamic characters that overshadow the many other amazing qualities
that this movie has. Since the movie itself is defined by its characters I conclude therefore the review
should reflect that. Set during the final months of World War 1, the movie focuses on the Amazonian
hero Diana Prince and her struggles to save and understand the motives of mankind. Diana is a strong
dazzling, statuesque lead, who dominates every scene she is in. Throughout the film she goes through
a transcendent character development, highlighted by actress Gal Godot s beautiful portrayal of
Amazonian. Wonder Woman s strength is drawn from her

Louis Malle’s “Elevator to the Gallows” is a film...
Louis Malle s Elevator to the Gallows is a film surrounding the lives of Florence Carala and Julien
Tavernier. Florence and Julien plan to murder Florence s husband, Simon. While Julien is stuck in an
elevator, his car is stolen by Louis and Veronique. While Florence is waiting for Julien, she sees his
car take off with Veronique. Assuming Julien has taken off with another women, Florence wanders the
Paris streets feeling melancholy all night. This sets the film up to be an epic crime drama. Malle splits
the film into three segments, one follows the two characters that steal the car, another follows Julien,
and the last follows a wandering Florence. Throughout this film, we can see various aspects of the
director s cinematic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be seen with the more natural light style cinematography and the camera following of Jeanne
Moreau unleashing herself through Paris. Miles Davis s jazz infused score also plays a key role in
discussing how a film could also be an auditory medium. Malle incorporates American influenced
Jazz into his film and I really got a sense that this new approach was meant to convey something that
was more spirited and fresh, which could also be applied to the New Wave. Elevator to the Gallows
also seems to display a sense of impulsivity. What I mean by this is that when you think something is
going to happen, something totally random can come out of the blue. I think Malle did this to combat
a generic formula And in attempt to avoid coincidence. One of my personal favorite segments was the
following of Jeanne Moreau throughout Paris. While the idea of her wandering may seem simplistic,
how this is implemented displays Malle s creative spirit. I think that the naturalistic style of the
cinematography offers a unique look at a well rounded character. At the beginning we see close ups of
an angry, murderous woman. Will the audience identify with this woman? How do we make the
audience understand what she is going through? Behold, soon enough we see medium and wide shots
of a wandering character that exhibits a sense of vulnerability. As Florence wanders, she lands in
various café s where men seem to want to prey on her. Even

At Middlebury College, he was very active in the Philomathesian Literary Society and studied
parliamentary procedure and learned how to debate. He also published, The Undergraduate, the first of
many newspapers he would start throughout his lifetime. After graduation, at the age of twenty one in

Blanchard was required to travel on a regular basis because of his involvement in the anti slavery
movement. His journeys provided him with many opportunities and eventually led to several
academic offers. In 1843, Jonathan traveled to London as a delegate to the world s Anti Slavery
Convention. The next year he traveled to Quincy, Illinois to deliver a commencement address to the
Adelphi Theopolis Mission Institute. From 1845 to 1857 he was the president of Knox College in
Illinois. In 1860 he turned down the offer for the presidency at Iowa College and a nomination to run
for congress. He did, however, accept the offer to be the president of the Illinois Institute, which
would eventually become Wheaton College. His wife, Mary, died in 1890 in East Las Vegas, New
Mexico while traveling in support of Jonathan s involvement in politics. Two years later, Blanchard
died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, May 14th, 1892 in the home of Herman and Julia Fischer .

Time in the Japanese Culture Japanese may be both past and future orientated., and generally adhere
to clock time (Galanti, 2015, p. 280). If a particular Japanese person is past oriented, they may want to
fall back on old traditions. One example is the patient wanting to cover themselves with blankets and
drinking warm beverages in order to sweat out a fever (Galanti, 2015). If a Japanese patient is future
oriented, they may be looking forward to upcoming goals. However, their goals are based off
interdependency instead of dependency. An elderly Japanese may rely heavily upon their oldest son or
wife to achieve tasks (Galanti, 2015).
Environmental Control in the Japanese Culture An aspect of environmental control is health practices.
One traditional practice for Asian cultures is coin rubbing . Coin rubbing is when a piece of metal,
coin or spoon, is oiled and heated. Then the metal is vigorously rubbed on the patient s skin,
producing a red area on the skin. This is believed to pull the illness out of the body through the surface
of the skin. At times, this may distract a health care provider. Raised red bumps can look suspicious
and lead to thought of some kind of abuse. However, this is an ancient tradition for Asians regarding
illness (Galanti, 2015).
Biological Variations in the Japanese Culture Members of an Asian cultural group have many drug

I Stand Here Ironing, By Tillie Olsen
I Stand Here Ironing, which is a popular short story by Tillie Olsen describing the hard lives of people
during The Great Depression in the 1930s, focuses on the numerous difficulties of a mother who had
to take care of a child by herself. The short story begins with a view of an apartment room where a
woman is ironing. Her work is interrupted by a call asking for her help for understanding Emily, her
first daughter. By recalling and gathering all memories between her and Emily, the narrator realizes
that there are a lot of things which make her feel guilty and regretful about her daughter. In the end,
turning back to the present, she believes that Emily will be fine with her true value inside despite of
the rocky childhood. In the setting, the narrator is doing her housework, ironing, as an ordinary
activity at every late night weekend after taking her children to bed. Actually, the ironing, which is
such a boring work for everyone, makes her mind easily follow the mental process of flashback about
Emily s childhood, especially after she receives a call from Emily s counselor.
By the time of the post Great Depression, most of working class families still lived in the small, old
and hovel apartments in urban or suburban areas. Each apartment only had two or three rooms where
all family members had to share their spaces to live. Under the glimmering, dim yellow light of a
lamp, the room in the setting appears as little, simple living room which is combined with the dining

Labeling Happened In Germany
History is filled with one group of people labeling another group. Why does one group of people feel
the need to degrade another group? The reason is quite simply fear. Fear of one group outsmarting,
outperforming, or outnumbering another group. One of the most famous historical examples of
labeling occurred in Germany. By creating laws, the Nazis restricted the Jews behavior.
At first, labeling can be a very successful way to keep a group of people from advancing. Also, it can
cause the labeled group to feel hopeless. Anne Frank described it as a time, When all ideals are being
swallowed and destroyed, and people showing their worst side, and do not know whether to believe in
truth and right in God (263). Jews could not own a bicycle.

China s One Child Policy
In China, there are more than 1.3 billion people living, working and building families. In 1978, the
government created China s one child policy. China s one child policy was established by Chinese
leader Deng Xiaoping in 1979 to limit China s population growth. The policy lets couples have only
one child. If they have another child the mother is pressured to abort the pregnancy. The one child
policy has brought many disasters to china since the one child policy was established. First are the
problems of the female abortions and the killing of infants. As a result, abortions of females have
become commonplace, as well as the killing of babies born post partum. China s women must have an

These eras were characterized by wide scale crime and violence. In the past 19th century, China has
had the same problem before. Where there are more men the more violence there is especially in the
lower classes. Ma Jihong is 38years old and she is six months pregnant. So when 10 people from the
local office showed up one morning in October, she slipped through a gap in the concrete wall around
the house and bolted like a sprinter toward the main road. She was trying to hide her pregnancy from
the government. They took my daughter in law at 9 a.m. By 5 p.m., she was dead, Gao said. Because
of the one child policy Mao had to abort her child even though she was two months away from labor.
In 2009, a woman in Liaocheng, also in Shandong province, died after being forced to get an abortion
a week before her due date. They made a women abort a full grown baby; it wasn t even a fetus
because it was fully developed baby. By the midpoint of the century, more than a quarter of the

History And Perceptions Of American Sign Language Essay
History and Perceptions of American Sign Language
Sign language is one most common ways for deaf individuals to communicate without using of their
voices. Different cultures and languages will typically have their own version of sign language so
signs are not always universal, just like gestures are not universal. Signs are culturally bound in
communication just like verbal languages and gestures are culturally bound. I will examine the history
of American Sign Language, as well as how it has been viewed culturally with positive and negative
social implications in the U.S.
History of American Sign Language
In order to fully understand the creation of American Sign Language (ASL), it must be understood that
it is a form of communication. That means every sign has a meaning that is culturally bound just like
languages in oral communication. That also means that the language has a distinctive origin. In fact,
ASL carries several linguistic features that are similar to spoken languages (Rosen, 2008) such as the
presence of homonyms and its constant evolution (Shaw Delaporte, 2011). The unique concept about
ASL, though, is that it actually has very strong ties and connections with the French Sign Language,
also known as LFS. This connection is explained by Delaporte Shaw (2009) and Shaw Delaporte
(2011) as being due to how ASL was formalized in the U.S. by Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet with the
help of a deaf French professor named Laurent Clerc who used LSF. Because LFS

Essay about The Legal History of China
The Legal History of China
Before I introduce the legal history of China, I want to talk about several points:
First, introduce the legal history of China should be based on the general history of china:
As everyone has know the general history of China, I will not introduce it in detail.( The ancient
China had many dynasties, from the Xia Dynasty (21th 16th century before Christ), to the Shang

In the legal education of China, we teach the legal system of each dynasty respectively. If I select this

I want to form general conclusions of each stage.

Home Depot is credited with having revolutionized the American home improvement industry. Since
the recession, the company has witnessed phenomenal growth with the stock price growing by over
270% in the last five years alone. With services encompassing Do It Yourself, Do It For Me, and
Professional (Pro) customers, Home Depot has managed to carve its way to being the industry leader
with an ~27% share. In this note, we analyze Home Depot s business using the SWOT analysis to
assess Home Depot s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Using this, we look at what
might be in store for Home Depot going forward. Trefis Team, Oct 6, 2015 Strengths Leadership:
Home Depot s top strength lies in its leadership. In spite of being highly dependent on macroeconomic
factors for success, the retailer managed to stand its ground during the recession. When revenues were
declining at an annual rate of 7 8% between 2008 and 2010, Home Depot did not let EPS numbers dip
below the $1.37 figure that was recorded in fiscal 2008. Home Depot s focus on cost saving and
productivity enhancing strategies under the leadership of former CEO Frank Blake was instrumental
in seeing the company through the global meltdown. Clearly, Home Depot has survived one of the
worst economic situations and has a number of strategies up its sleeve that could

Evaluating The Effectives Of Social Program
Practice evaluations are the systematic ways of evaluating the effectives of social program. It involves
using applied social research to find the extent to which social programs are carried out effectively and
efficiently. Practice of work can be evaluated by the application of quantitative or qualitative research
methods in order to answer questions about the social work practice. Social workers engage in
research for two primary reasons. The first reason is to evaluate their own practice: interventions and
programs. Social workers have a responsibility to provide high quality of care to their clients. The
second reason social workers engage in research is to add to the body of knowledge in the field.

The whole purpose of using correlations in research is to figure out which variables are connected.
Descriptive research is conducted primarily to collect data about variables rather than to test
hypotheses about the relationships between variables. In another word a descriptive study is conducted
to describe how things are .
The Basic Elements of Researches are as follows:
Variables and Constants
A variable is any character, behavior, event that is capable of varying or exiting in at least two
different states, conditions or levels. Examples are gender, anxiety (high, low), and therapy (cognitive,
client centered). Whereas a constant is when a character restricts to a single state or condition.
Independent and dependent variables
A variable is an independent variable when it is believed to affect or alter status on another variable.
The independent variable is referred to as treatment or intervention and is symbolized with letter X.
Conversely, a variable is a dependent variable when status on the variable seems to depend on stats on
another variable. The dependent variable is considered as the outcome of treatment and is symbolized
with the letter Y.
Samples and sampling
A research design should clarify the population of interest and the method that will be used to select a
sample. The best way to make sure that a sample is representative of the population is to use one of
the following techniques.

The Heroes Of Elephants From The Early Movies Of The Disney
Elephants seem to have a gigantic part in the modern culture. The wisdom of elephants as they get
older is something that we see reflective in people. The calmness and strength of the elephant are
virtues that many cultures would love to see as part of their own selves. One of the most famous
among all elephants is Dumbo from the early movies of the Disney. Dumbo is an adorable elephant
born to a circus mom. However, all of the other elephants and animals make fun of him due to his
enormous flappy ears. On the bright side, Dumbo is able to overcome that problem and even learns to
fly with his big ears. He teaches us the value of friendship and of finding good things within ourselves
instead of just giving up. In reality, an elephant is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to preserve and increase the number of the elephants in Asia, these animals should be
protected and reintroduced to the wild and their habitats must be restored and expanded. One of the
greatest threats to Asian elephants in Asia is the loss of habitat. Throughout the tropical regions of
Asia, humans have cleared large areas of forest and river valleys for settlement (AMNH.org, par. 3).
The World Wildlife Fund states that large industrial and development projects such as dams, tea and
coffee plantations, roads, and railway lines have broken up what was once elephant habitats into small
fragments (par. 1). This fragmentation process hinders the seasonal migration and breeding of the clan.
In addition, habitat loss also affects the elephant s diet. According to National Geographic, an adult
elephant consumes up to 300 pounds of food every day (par. 5). These hungry animals do not sleep
much, and they roam over great distances while foraging for the large quantities of food they require
to sustain their massive bodies, (National Geographic, par. 6). Without having a big chunk of land for
the elephants to graze and roam around, their lifestyles and well being would be in danger. According
to Choompol Ngampongsai, wild elephants in Thailand are mostly confined to small protected areas
that are unable to support the complete home range of an entire

Vaclav Havel s The Power Of The Powerless
The dictatorships of Eastern Europe significantly contrasted the classical dictatorship. In Vaclav Havel
s The Power of the Powerless, the idea of the post totalitarian system is used to distinguish the
dictatorships of Eastern Europe from classical dictatorships on the bases of: its verified historical
roots, lack of social distinction of the ruling, open wielding of power, and reliance on ideology . The
post totalitarian system fell victim to the use of ideology as a power source founded in lies and
modifications of reality. The threat truth posed to the post totalitarian system highlighted its fragile
dependency on ideology as a source of manipulative power and falsehoods that allowed mankind to
cope with its departure from humanity. Ideology ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Havel explains that the primary excusatory function of ideology was to provide people with the
illusion that the system was in harmony with human order and the order of the universe . It is because
of this that the post totalitarian system was so deeply rooted in lies. It had to falsify the past, the
present and the future to give the illusion that its goals were aligned with those of mankind, although
its true goals were in the name of self service. Individuals may not have necessarily believed these
lies, but they behaved as if they did. This means they had to live within a lie and accept their place in
it. Doing this confirmed the system thereby giving it more power. Those who accepted the ideological
excuses of the system too constituted its power by becoming an active component of that power. This
resulted in the system s power gradually relating more to ideology than to reality, thereby becoming
entirely dependent on deceptions. The structure of the system was sustained and held together through
the power created from the lies and excuses provided by ideology. It supplied rules and regulations for
its subordinates and integrated communication by guaranteeing the inner coherence of the power
structure . Here it can be seen that the presence of truth, would have been an undoing element to the
functioning of the

right of everyone s own decision, for who s in power, what they do in power and how to stop them if
they get too powerful. It was the individual s decision to let one into power. Of course if a country did
not do this, we as Americans would see that as backwards and not right to the point of military
intervention when in our own nation we do not get full say in who become president. The decision
making does not include world leaders but also includes the day to day decisions and our own life
decisions we make every day, such as our job decisions. But it would seem that all these decisions are

He describes how the western philosophy has described how to make a better world by just simply
giving the individuals more choice in the world. Schwartz then later in the lecture goes on to explain
how this ever growing amount of choice can lead to a paralysis of choice. According to Schwartz this
paralysis is being exemplified by the amount of choices given to them. This has led to an opposite
effect where instead of giving more choices equals a better life, now more choices means no choices at
all leading to no choice at all. Schwartz gives another example of cellphones doing Ludacris things
such as nose trimming, toothbrush and even a lighter. Here exemplifies how the growing number of
choices has led to the elderly simply not getting cell phones or televisions because they cannot
understand how to use the call feature or how to change the channel of the television. The vast amount
of choices has also lead to the agency of our choices to decease as well. With so many options our
decisions rely totally on us according to Schwartz, that if our choice in anything is so much as not
perfect, then our decision was a bad decision and one could have made a better decision. Which leads
to a loss in agency in oneself as well as

Identity, Societal Norms and the American Dream Sylvia Plath and Truman Capote throughout their
work both create unique individuals with internal and external forces holding them back. In The Bell
Jar, we are introduced to Ester who is a young and attractive women in college with a successful path
in life but is held back by madness and depression. In Breakfast at Tiffany s, we are introduced to a
unique character who makes up most of the story. We are introduced to Holiday Golightly but is
refereed to as Holly throughout the story, Holly is the main character of the story and the narrator
writes about her life. Holly makes a living as a companion to many wealthy and important men, who
lavish her with money and expensive beautiful gifts. The narrator meets Holly when she leaves her
husband and moves to New York, throughout her life and the story Holly is extremely unstable and
irresponsible. In both, The Bell Jar and Breakfast at Tiffany s, societal norms and the american dream
are major themes that help the readers understand the characters lives and behaviors. Both The Bell
Jar and Breakfast at Tiffany s, are stories that take place during the 1940s and 1950s where the role of
women was restricted in America. During this time, there were expectations placed on women by
society. In both stories we see the female characters being torn between doing what they desire or

looking at an Operating System one could often say that an Operating System is a large sum made up
of small separate parts. Much like how Knuth describes computer science being the wall of mini

Nep Vs Gp Essay
A) How do the controls over NEP and NECB differ from the controls over GPP and decomposition?
Why are these controls different? (Chapter 7)
Net ecosystem carbon balance (NECB) is the net rate of carbon accumulation by an ecosystem. It is
the change in ecosystem carbon stock over time. Net ecosystem production (NEP) is the total amount
of carbon moving into an ecosystem minus the total respiration of the ecosystem (GPP Recosytem).
Where gross primary productivity (GPP) is the sum of all photosynthetic activity measured at the
ecosystem scale. Decomposition is the conversion of dead organic matter into CO2, mineral nutrients,
and organic compounds through the processes of leaching, fragmentation, and chemical alteration. All
of these concepts are interrelated and fit into NECB, but the controls differ in some substantial ways.
GPP is controlled by amount of photosynthetic tissue, the duration of the activity (including
environmental stressors), and soil resources (water and nutrients). This represents the largest carbon

Fungi typically have a suite of different enzymes capable of breaking down different types of plant
compounds (lignin, cellulose, etc.). On the other hand, bacteria and archaea may only produce one or
some of the necessary enzymes to break down these same compounds. In order for bacteria to break
down those more complex compounds they have to form a consortium where each contributes a
particular enzyme, each of which contributes to breaking certain bonds within those compounds. For
example, cellulose breakdown requires a suite of three different enzyme systems: endocellulases break
down the internal bonds, the exocellulases remove the ends of the chains, this forms cellobiose, which

Ueckerdt et al. (2013) define grid costs to be twofold. First is the transmission costs generated because
of the distance between power plants and load centres. Second, the fact that diversified energy sources
can prosper electricity supply is also a contributor to the increased re dispatch costs as the result of
congested grid.
In terms of transmission costs, such costs can vary to a great extent. Some power plants can be far
away from the load centres, which drives transmission costs relatively high. Conventional power
plants such as coal and gas can be less constrained to geographic location. However, for those
renewable energy (RE) plants such as off shore wind and PV ones which are highly geographic
oriented, it is a considerable proportion of the total cost that cannot be neglected.
When speaking of re dispatch costs, it is often concerned with congestion management. On the one
hand, the development of RE relieves the pressure of electricity supply due to constrained amount of
conventional energy and escalating consumptions. On the other hand, because of the nature of
randomness (or unpredictability) of RE, the electricity generation of RE especially PV and wind are
dominated by natural force which is hardly human manipulated. The electricity dispatch, nevertheless,
is the complicated systematic work based on historical consumptions and future predictions. In this
case, the RE generation can rarely correspond to

Introduction
The framing techniques that media utilizes can be telling of the source of the reporting and can also be
beneficial in discerning public opinion on domestic and foreign affairs. What the media reports on as
well as how they present their reports are often consistent with their host countries interests, but it is
my belief that differences occur when reporting on similar issues in foreign countries. The goal of this
research is to discover how media frame stories differently with respect to geography, and to unearth
possible patterns and themes in framing while exposing and explaining any anomalies. This leads to
the main question of how do media outlets adjust their framing when reporting on domestic versus
international protests? In short, what role does proximity play in framing strategies? Protests are a
type of political discourse and demonstration that are not unique to any region or country, even though
their subject matter may be. In the following study, I will analyze existing research to focus on
protests and movements such as the Occupy movement, Gezi protests, Arab Spring,

Taking a Look at ANSYS
1. Introduction
1.1 ANSYS
ANSYS is a software package that allows various simulations in a range of different fields and
industries to be modelled and analysed. The main fields within the program include, computational
fluid dynamics, structural mechanics, and electromagnetics to mention a few. The use of this software
allows an individual or business to test various cases of product use, eliminating the outlay cost of
building and testing many prototypes. This saves on time and costs and is a lot faster and more
accurate then computing a hand analysis. In certain circumstances it allows for test cases that would
otherwise not be possible to set up in a lab [1] [2].
1.1.1 Brief History of ANSYS
Modern finite element method may be traced back as early as the 1900 s with the first models being
represented and calculated by means of discrete equivalent elastic bars. The individual that has been
credited with developing the finite element method is R. Courant. He made use of piecewise
polynomial interpolation over triangular sub regions to analyse problems involving torsion [3].
Boeing was the first major company to make use of triangular stress elements to model their airplane
wings during the years from 1950 1962. It was during the 1960 s that the finite element method use
was broadened to other industries including heat transfer. ANSYS was officially released in 1971 [3].

the end book. Hence the name of the novel. To create absolute solitude Marquez had to create incest
within the Buendia family. Incest means that they were making love and having kids with their
brothers and sisters as well as their aunts and cousins. This creates an interlocking family tree. With
the family reproducing within the household they have isolated themselves from the other members of
society. Today in modern society we see insect as is forbidden ... Show more content on

These things will never be known. From the book we can conclude that the absolute way to have
complete solitude would be to create a family with an obsession with incest. That way no one would
leave and the house would only grow to fit more relatives rather than outsiders. The question if incest
is right or wrong is never brought up by the villagers in the novel because if it was the author wouldn t
be able to tell a tale of One Hundred Years of Solitude . Solitude would be broken if the outsiders saw
incest as something else rather than normal. Incest the first sin and the last, it is what started the book
and what had also ended it. Without it there would be no story and there would be no Buendia family.
It would ve changed into something else over the five generations. The story was told in a circle, what
had happened in the beginning would foreshadow the ending. A pig s tail to a pig s

Speaking As A Reflective Speech
In the past, I have given speeches, but never in the style of how we did it in this class. Previous
speeches I have given have been read aloud directly from a paper I had written. I have never given a
speech that required memorization or speaking based off of a key word outline, so this experience was
very new to me. Audio only: Thought I had a strong introduction, and introduced what I would be
focusing on in my essay. I believe I sound fairly confident and seem to be speaking at a pace that is
clear to understand and enunciated each syllable. As the speech progresses, it seems as if I ve lost
some confidence, I use more filler words, and repeat myself a little bit. My ending was very weak, and
it is something I realized as soon as I said it. My plan was to do a formal conclusion, thanking the
audience, but I became nervous and said: and yes . Video only: I use my hands as I am speaking. I
appear to be fairly confident based on my overall posture and mouth movements. I frequently look
down at the paper towards the beginning but still try and acknowledge the audience as well. My lips
appear moving at a constant speed, showing that I do not speed up at certain points. My hands appear
to shake a bit when I pick up the paper to read my quote, but I quickly place it back on the podium
showing that I was aware of the movement. At the very end when I am closing, I begin to lightly tap
the table further showing that I was nervous and at a loss of words. Video and audio: I

Characteristics Of Life In Neil Gaiman s The Graveyard Book
Everyone has different personality traits. These affect how we react to people, important decisions,
and situations. You are shaped by your family, and your education. In Bod s early childhood, he was
raised and taught by the different dead people in the graveyard. Bod s life starts resembling his family,
friends, and education. He tends to take on attributes of the dead people he meets in the graveyard.
However, fortunately for Bod he has human interactions with people outside of the graveyard. Bod s
human interactions with Scarlett, Abanazer Bolger, and the bullies at school give him more
characteristics of life than death in Neil Gaiman s The Graveyard Book. Bod s first human interaction
was with Scarlett Perkins. She was a little older than he was, a little taller, and was dressed in bright
colors, yellow and pink and orange. (40) Scarlett was Bod s first exposure to life since he was a
toddler. Bod gained many human characteristics that he learned from being friends with Scarlett. She
first introduced color to Bod s life by wearing bright colored clothes. Bod wore a grey winding sheet
that made him feel dowdy and drab. Later in the novel, Silas brings Bod home some real clothes. Silas
produced a grey sweater the color of Bod s winding sheet, a pair of jeans, underwear, and shoes pale
green sneakers. (148) Silas gets Bod normal, living peoples clothes which are a characteristic of life.
His shoes are also pale green, which is the first thing with color Bod owned.

Types of Vacations
Vacations are a time we use to recharge our batteries. A time to spend with the ones you love and build
lifelong memories. There are many different options to consider when choosing where and how to
vacation. Everyone has different things they consider enjoyable or relaxing. In this essay I will discuss
different types of vacations and point out some benefits of each. Some people enjoy vacationing at the
beach. The warm climate is one of the biggest selling points when deciding on a beach vacation. You
can enjoy warm weather activities like swimming picnicking or volleyball. Or you can just completely
relax. Lay out in the sand with your feet in the water and a cold beverage, soaking up the sunshine.
Beach vacations are usually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People with this mentality would probably be more interested in the theme park or sightseeing
vacations. There are lots of things to do. The days are action packed with little or no down time. Once
you finish one thing, there are a hundred other things to do next. I personally prefer a mix of the two. I
usually like staying busy. I will get bored easily and feel like I m wasting time if I don t have
something to do. But I don t like to feel tied down. If I spontaneously decide I want to go do
something else, I like to have that option. My grandmother on the other hand is the master of doing
nothing on vacation. A few times a year she rents a beach house or condo on the water, then she
spends the entire week inside, sitting on the couch reading books. I don t know why she insists that
she be near the water, when she will never even step outside once to look at the water. But it s what
she likes to do. And that s the whole point of vacation, getting some time that is just for you. Whether
you enjoy beaches or mountains, whether you want to chill or go on an adventure, a vacation is a time
for you to do what makes you happy. The purpose of this essay was to explore the different styles of
vacations with the thought of matching them to your

Moody Jaber Incident Report
Everyone has burnt their hand or finger on a hot stove or pot at some point in their life, but Moody
Jaber had a slightly different experience. On the night of October 8, 2016 Moody, Steve Senatro, and I
decided to have a bonfire in the desert near Steves house. We told our other friends to find some old
Pallets to burn and quickly put this plan in action. The three of us hopped in Steves FJ Cruiser and
headed to the gas station. In order to start the fire we would need gas. So we went into the
convenience store and bought three gallons of water, dumped them out and filled them with gasoline.
Little did we know that this gasoline would cause us a lot of problems later in the night. Finally we
arrived at the Watering Hole a placed we named for its temporary pond that sometimes forms after a
big rain storm. There, we waited for our friends to bring the pallets so we could begin our bonfire. ...

One mistake can lead to a lifetime of pain and suffering and in some cases death. Moody now knows
the dangers of fire and will always remember this experience and how one little mistake can turn into
a huge problem in a matter of seconds. If there was one thing I learned from this experience , Moody
says, it s that you can never be too careful when dealing with fire, fifteen seconds can change your life
drastically . Moodys burns on most of his left leg are 75% healed and it is getting better extremely
fast. The doctors at the Maricopa Burn Center said that it is very rare for second and third degree
burns to heal so quickly. This is a result of Moodys hard work that he put in to expedite his healing
process. He says, It was definitely an exhausting three weeks but it was worth it because now I m
almost completely healed . I am very proud of Moody and all of the progress he s made in these last
few weeks. The three of us learned a lot from his experience and in the future we will be more more
careful around

you to experience the Divine. How has that connection to the Divine changed you and your daily life?
My Christian upbringing has enabled me to learn and embrace God s love in my life. I know and
believe that God exists and has good plans for his children (us). I also believe that I am God s child
and He is always there to assist me and comfort me whenever I need Him. All I must do is call on him.
Being brought up in a Christian family, I practice prayer and read the Holy Bible for guidance. I

After graduation, I plan on doing a year of service, preferably with an organization that focuses on
legal services and advocacy. This is because my dream is to be a human rights lawyer and dedicating a
year of volunteer service will give me the experience I need before enrolling into law school. Another
reason why I am dedicating one year after graduation to service is because I am very passionate about
helping my neighbors. Here at Xavier, I have learned how to be a woman for and with others and
therefore I share my gifts, pursue justice and have concern for the poor and the marginalized. I aspire
to keep that value for the rest of my life. In doing the service work, I will also keep the value of
solidarity and Kinship as this will enable me to build a strong relationship with the people I work with.
I will keep this value by respecting and honoring those around me and taking every opportunity given

Overview Of Alcoa Intalco Aluminum
Milestone 1: Overview of Alcoa Intalco Aluminum Works
This short paper will discuss a general overview of Alcoa Intalco Aluminum Works with different
aspects of the business in pertaining to either a preparation for a new product launch or new method
created specifically in the hope of reducing costs that will save the company, not just money but the
jobs of hundreds of employees currently employed there.
Brief History
Intalco Aluminum Corp., was the original name of Alcoa Intalco Works, which is an aluminum
refinery that is located in Ferndale, WA. It began smelter operation back in 1966 and owned primarily
by Alumax, Pechiney and Howmet. Most of it employees were and are union workers. In 1998, Alcoa
Inc. and Alumax merged which created ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alcoa created its aluminum using a process called Hall Herould through electrolysis since aluminum
is highly reactive, as I have mentioned before, and for this requires a high amount of energy. A single
aluminum plant uses as much electricity as the city of Tacoma. The company is spending millions of
dollars researching ways to use less power. It, however, still takes an average of 16,232 kilowatt hours
to turn out a ton of aluminum, if we are to compare to another product, for instance steel would only
need 77 for a ton. However, there is a reason to why Alcoa Intalco Works stays purely with aluminum
as Isaac Bonell, a writer for The Bellingham Business Journal pointed out that Aluminum is needed to
build infrastructure, to manufacture cars and airplanes, to make high tech medical equipment and to
package your favorite chilled beverage. In the smelting industry, there is no shortage of customers.
Last year, on August 2016, the facility celebrated its 50th birthday in operation which was bittersweet
because they were discussing shutting down some of their potlines again which mean layoff of over
400 employees as well. Unfortunately, energy crisis was not the only problem here but had to do with
the global market prices of aluminum which makes Intalco unprofitable.
Mission/Business: Aluminum
Act with Integrity. Operate with Excellence. Care for People.
At Alcoa, values are a simple reflection of who

Differences Between Achilles And Achilles
In his book, The Encyclopedia of Greek and Roman Mythology, Roman states that,
The Greek concept of the hero was not based on a calculation of the warrior s social utility and
helpfulness in straightforward terms; rather a hero s greatness is defined by how extraordinary he is,
how far he transcends the lives of ordinary mortals (2010:8).
This essay will compare the greatest hero of the Trojan War, Achilles with the strongest hero of
Ancient Greece, Herakles. It will also discuss how they compare to their modern day representations
in cartoons, movies and pop culture.
These two very well known heroes of Ancient Greek mythology were both born from one mortal and
one immortal parent. While their bravery, battle skills and strength have earned them a place in the
history books there are also some differences between these heroes. Achilles, the protagonist of Homer
s epic, the Iliad, was the son of Peleus, a mortal king and Thetis, a sea nymph and daughter of Neseus
(Roman 2010:7). One version of the story describes Achilles as the only surviving child of this
marriage, after Thetis had murder six of her children by burning them (Pinsent 1983:114). A later
version states that his mother tried to protect him when he was born by dipping him in the river Styx

His impulsiveness and emotional instability often got him in trouble. Hera used this to her advantage
yet again after the birth of his children from his first wife, Megara. She drove him mad, which caused
him to kill his sons and abandon Megara (Roman 2010:209). For the crime of murdering his sons he
was ordered to perform the famous Twelve Labours in order to purify himself (Roman 2010:210).
This would also later ensure his immortality however. These would not be the last tasks he would have
to complete in penance for his anger and impulsive

Not only was this origin story able to stand alone but it was also able to weave itself into the distinct top origin movies of all time. The shining point of this film is the exceptional characters who are gracefully written and exquisitely performed. While the movie has many praiseworthy qualities such as it s CGI, cinematography, and directing; the true strength of the movie lies in it s characters. The main hindering element in many superhero movies is it s primitive, rudimentary characters. Wonder Woman does not contain this handicap. The director, Patty Jenkins, creates dynamic characters that overshadow the many other amazing qualities that this movie has. Since the movie itself is defined by its characters I conclude therefore the review should reflect that. Set during the final months of World War 1, the movie focuses on the Amazonian hero Diana Prince and her struggles to save and understand the motives of mankind. Miles Davis s jazz infused score also plays a key role in discussing how a film could also be an auditory medium. Malle incorporates American influenced Jazz into his film and I really got a sense that this new approach was meant to convey something that was more spirited and fresh, which could also be applied to the New Wave. Elevator to the Gallows also seems to display a sense of impulsivity. What I mean by this is that when you think something is going to happen, something totally random can come out of the blue. I think Malle did this to combat a generic formula And in attempt to avoid coincidence. One of my personal favorite segments was the following of Jeanne Moreau throughout Paris. While the idea of her wandering may seem simplistic, how this is implemented displays Malle s creative spirit. I think that the naturalistic style of the cinematography offers a unique look at a well rounded character. At the beginning we see close ups of an angry, murderous woman. By recalling and gathering all memories between her and Emily, the narrator realizes that there are a lot of things which make her feel guilty and regretful about her daughter. Different cultures and languages will typically have their own version of sign language so signs are not always universal, just like gestures are not universal. Signs are culturally bound in communication just like verbal languages and gestures are culturally bound. I will examine the history of American Sign Language, as well as how it has been viewed culturally with positive and negative social implications in the U.S. History of American Sign Language In order to fully understand the creation of American Sign Language (ASL), it must be understood that it is a form of communication. That means every sign has a meaning that is culturally bound just like languages in oral communication. That also means that the language has a distinctive origin. In fact, ASL carries several linguistic features that are similar to spoken languages (Rosen, 2008) such as the presence of homonyms and its constant evolution (Shaw Delaporte, 2011). The unique concept about ASL, though, is that it actually has very strong ties and connections with the French Sign Language, also known as LFS. This connection is explained by Delaporte Shaw (2009) and Shaw Delaporte (2011) as being due to how ASL was formalized in the U.S. by Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet with the help of a deaf French professor named Laurent Clerc who used LSF. Social workers engage in research for two primary reasons. The first reason is to evaluate their own practice: interventions and programs. Examples are gender, anxiety (high, low), and therapy (cognitive, client centered). Whereas a constant is when a character restricts to a single state or condition. One of the most famous among all elephants is Dumbo from the early movies of the Disney. Dumbo is an adorable elephant born to a circus mom. In order to preserve and increase the number of the elephants in Asia, these animals should be protected and reintroduced to the wild and their habitats must be restored and expanded. One of the greatest threats to Asian elephants in Asia is the loss of habitat. Throughout the tropical regions of Asia, humans have cleared large areas of forest and river valleys for settlement (AMNH.org, par. 3). The World Wildlife Fund states that large industrial and development projects such as dams, tea and coffee plantations, roads, and railway lines have broken up what was once elephant habitats into small fragments (par. 1). This fragmentation process hinders the seasonal migration and breeding of the clan. In addition, habitat loss also affects the elephant s diet. According to National Geographic, an adult elephant consumes up to 300 pounds of food every day (par. 5). These hungry animals do not sleep much, and they roam over great distances while foraging for the large quantities of food they require to sustain their massive bodies, (National Geographic, par. 6). Without having a big chunk of land for the elephants to graze and roam around, their lifestyles and well being would be in danger. In Vaclav Havel s The Power of the Powerless, the idea of the post totalitarian system is used to distinguish the dictatorships of Eastern Europe from classical dictatorships on the bases of: its verified historical roots, lack of social distinction of the ruling, open wielding of power, and reliance on ideology . The post totalitarian system fell victim to the use of ideology as a power source founded in lies and modifications of reality. The threat truth posed to the post totalitarian system highlighted its fragile dependency on ideology as a source of manipulative power and falsehoods that allowed mankind to cope with its departure from humanity. Ideology ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Havel explains that the primary excusatory function of ideology was to provide people with the illusion that the system was in harmony with human order and the order of the universe . It is because of this that the post totalitarian system was so deeply rooted in lies. It had to falsify the past, the present and the future to give the illusion that its goals were aligned with those of mankind, although its true goals were in the name of self service. Individuals may not have necessarily believed these lies, but they behaved as if they did. This means they had to live within a lie and accept their place in it. Doing this confirmed the system thereby giving it more power. Those who accepted the ideological excuses of the system too constituted its power by becoming an active component of that power. This resulted in the system s power gradually relating more to ideology than to reality, thereby becoming entirely dependent on deceptions. The structure of the system was sustained and held together through the power created from the lies and excuses provided by ideology. It supplied rules and regulations for its subordinates and integrated communication by guaranteeing the inner coherence of the power structure . He describes how the western philosophy has described how to make a better world by just simply giving the individuals more choice in the world. Schwartz then later in the lecture goes on to explain how this ever growing amount of choice can lead to a paralysis of choice. According to Schwartz this paralysis is being exemplified by the amount of choices given to them. This has led to an opposite effect where instead of giving more choices equals a better life, now more choices means no choices at all leading to no choice at all. Schwartz gives another example of cellphones doing Ludacris things such as nose trimming, toothbrush and even a lighter. Here exemplifies how the growing number of choices has led to the elderly simply not getting cell phones or televisions because they cannot understand how to use the call feature or how to change the channel of the television. The vast amount of choices has also lead to the agency of our choices to decease as well. (Chapter 7) Net ecosystem carbon balance (NECB) is the net rate of carbon accumulation by an ecosystem. It is the change in ecosystem carbon stock over time. Net ecosystem production (NEP) is the total amount of carbon moving into an ecosystem minus the total respiration of the ecosystem (GPP Recosytem). Where gross primary productivity (GPP) is the sum of all photosynthetic activity measured at the ecosystem scale. Decomposition is the conversion of dead organic matter into CO2, mineral nutrients, and organic compounds through the processes of leaching, fragmentation, and chemical alteration. All of these concepts are interrelated and fit into NECB, but the controls differ in some substantial ways. (2013) define grid costs to be twofold. First is the transmission costs generated because of the distance between power plants and load centres. Second, the fact that diversified energy sources can prosper electricity supply is also a contributor to the increased re dispatch costs as the result of congested grid. In terms of transmission costs, such costs can vary to a great extent. Some power plants can be far away from the load centres, which drives transmission costs relatively high. Conventional power plants such as coal and gas can be less constrained to geographic location. However, for those renewable energy (RE) plants such as off shore wind and PV ones which are highly geographic oriented, it is a considerable proportion of the total cost that cannot be neglected. When speaking of re dispatch costs, it is often concerned with congestion management. On the one hand, the development of RE relieves the pressure of electricity supply due to constrained amount of conventional energy and escalating consumptions. On the other hand, because of the nature of randomness (or unpredictability) of RE, the electricity generation of RE especially PV and wind are dominated by natural force which is hardly human manipulated. The electricity dispatch, nevertheless, is the complicated systematic work based on historical consumptions and future predictions. In this case, the RE generation can rarely correspond to ... What the media reports on as well as how they present their reports are often consistent with their host countries interests, but it is my belief that differences occur when reporting on similar issues in foreign countries. The goal of this research is to discover how media frame stories differently with respect to geography, and to unearth possible patterns and themes in framing while exposing and explaining any anomalies. This leads to the main question of how do media outlets adjust their framing when reporting on domestic versus international protests? In short, what role does proximity play in framing strategies? The main fields within the program include, computational fluid dynamics, structural mechanics, and electromagnetics to mention a few. The use of this software allows an individual or business to test various cases of product use, eliminating the outlay cost of building and testing many prototypes. This saves on time and costs and is a lot faster and more accurate then computing a hand analysis. In certain circumstances it allows for test cases that would otherwise not be possible to set up in a lab [1] [2]. 1.1.1 Brief History of ANSYS Modern finite element method may be traced back as early as the 1900 s with the first models being represented and calculated by means of discrete equivalent elastic bars. The individual that has been credited with developing the finite element method is R. Courant. He made use of piecewise polynomial interpolation over triangular sub regions to analyse problems involving torsion [3]. Boeing was the first major company to make use of triangular stress elements to model their airplane wings during the years from 1950 1962. It was during the 1960 s that the finite element method use was broadened to other industries including heat transfer. ANSYS was officially released in 1971 [3]. There are many different options to consider when choosing where and how to vacation. Everyone has different things they consider enjoyable or relaxing. In this essay I will discuss different types of vacations and point out some benefits of each. Some people enjoy vacationing at the beach. The warm climate is one of the biggest selling points when deciding on a beach vacation. You can enjoy warm weather activities like swimming picnicking or volleyball. Or you can just completely relax. Lay out in the sand with your feet in the water and a cold beverage, soaking up the sunshine. Beach vacations are usually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People with this mentality would probably be more interested in the theme park or sightseeing vacations. There are lots of things to do. The days are action packed with little or no down time. Once you finish one thing, there are a hundred other things to do next. I personally prefer a mix of the two. I usually like staying busy. I will get bored easily and feel like I m wasting time if I don t have something to do. But I don t like to feel tied down. If I spontaneously decide I want to go do something else, I like to have that option. My grandmother on the other hand is the master of doing nothing on vacation. A few times a year she rents a beach house or condo on the water, then she spends the entire week inside, sitting on the couch reading books. I don t know why she insists that she be near the water, when she will never even step outside once to look at the water. But it s what she likes to do. And that s the whole point of vacation, getting some time that is just for you. Whether you enjoy beaches or mountains, whether you want to chill or go on an adventure, a vacation is a time for you to do what makes you happy. • 43. Moody Jaber Incident Report Everyone has burnt their hand or finger on a hot stove or pot at some point in their life, but Moody Jaber had a slightly different experience. On the night of October 8, 2016 Moody, Steve Senatro, and I decided to have a bonfire in the desert near Steves house. We told our other friends to find some old Pallets to burn and quickly put this plan in action. The three of us hopped in Steves FJ Cruiser and headed to the gas station. In order to start the fire we would need gas. So we went into the convenience store and bought three gallons of water, dumped them out and filled them with gasoline. Little did we know that this gasoline would cause us a lot of problems later in the night. Finally we arrived at the Watering Hole a placed we named for its temporary pond that sometimes forms after a big rain storm. There, we waited for our friends to bring the pallets so we could begin our bonfire. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After graduation, I plan on doing a year of service, preferably with an organization that focuses on legal services and advocacy. Another reason why I am dedicating one year after graduation to service is because I am very passionate about helping my neighbors. Here at Xavier, I have learned how to be a woman for and with others and therefore I share my gifts, pursue justice and have concern for the poor and the marginalized. I aspire to keep that value for the rest of my life. Brief History Intalco Aluminum Corp., was the original name of Alcoa Intalco Works, which is an aluminum refinery that is located in Ferndale, WA. It began smelter operation back in 1966 and owned primarily by Alumax, Pechiney and Howmet. Most of it employees were and are union workers. In 1998, Alcoa Inc. and Alumax merged which created ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alcoa created its aluminum using a process called Hall Herould through electrolysis since aluminum is highly reactive, as I have mentioned before, and for this requires a high amount of energy. A single aluminum plant uses as much electricity as the city of Tacoma. The company is spending millions of dollars researching ways to use less power. It, however, still takes an average of 16,232 kilowatt hours to turn out a ton of aluminum, if we are to compare to another product, for instance steel would only need 77 for a ton. However, there is a reason to why Alcoa Intalco Works stays purely with aluminum as Isaac Bonell, a writer for The Bellingham Business Journal pointed out that Aluminum is needed to build infrastructure, to manufacture cars and airplanes, to make high tech medical equipment and to package your favorite chilled beverage. In the smelting industry, there is no shortage of customers. Last year, on August 2016, the facility celebrated its 50th birthday in operation which was bittersweet because they were discussing shutting down some of their potlines again which mean layoff of over 400 employees as well. Unfortunately, energy crisis was not the only problem here but had to do with the global market prices of aluminum which makes Intalco unprofitable. Mission/Business: Aluminum Act with Integrity. Operate with Excellence. Care for People. At Alcoa, values are a simple reflection of who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Differences Between Achilles And Achilles In his book, The Encyclopedia of Greek and Roman Mythology, Roman states that, The Greek concept of the hero was not based on a calculation of the warrior s social utility and helpfulness in straightforward terms; rather a hero s greatness is defined by how extraordinary he is, how far he transcends the lives of ordinary mortals (2010:8). This essay will compare the greatest hero of the Trojan War, Achilles with the strongest hero of Ancient Greece, Herakles. It will also discuss how they compare to their modern day representations in cartoons, movies and pop culture. These two very well known heroes of Ancient Greek mythology were both born from one mortal and one immortal parent. While their bravery, battle skills and strength have earned them a place in the history books there are also some differences between these heroes. Achilles, the protagonist of Homer s epic, the Iliad, was the son of Peleus, a mortal king and Thetis, a sea nymph and daughter of Neseus (Roman 2010:7). One version of the story describes Achilles as the only surviving child of this marriage, after Thetis had murder six of her children by burning them (Pinsent 1983:114). A later version states that his mother tried to protect him when he was born by dipping him in the river Styx (Roman ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For the crime of murdering his sons he was ordered to perform the famous Twelve Labours in order to purify himself (Roman 2010:210). This would also later ensure his immortality however.
