Alexander The Great Success
Alexander the Great is a popular figure back in the time of Greece s rise. His name still catches our
attention till this very day, it wasn t a normal occurrence for a young man, age, to conquer the known
world. Our goal is to learn what made Alexander the Great so great? He once said, There is nothing
impossible to him who will try. He definitely believed in achieving his goals not only for himself, but
for his empire to grow and be as successful as possible. Alexander was born to Phillip II of Macedonia
and Olympias, the princess of Epirus, in 356 BCE. As a young boy, Alexander did not see his father
much due to the fact that Phillip II was constantly with his army in battles. Olympias managed to
serve as a strong role model ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The generals awaited the child s birth to determine what to do with the large empire, but had high
hopes to split it among the four of them. Roxana was said to send for Stateira II to be murdered to
ensure that Roxana s child for Alexander would get the throne. It is debated whether or not Parysatis II
was killed by Roxana as well, but many believe that Roxana would do whatever it took to make sure
Alexander IV would be Alexander the Great s successor. Later in 310 B.C. Roxana and the thirteen
year old Alexander IV were murdered to ensure the splitting of the kingdom among the generals was a
bulletproof plan. Thus ending Alexander the Great s son possibility of coming to know the empire his
father had built. In conclusion, saying Alexander the Great s legacy was amazing is an understatement.
To know that a man only took 13 years and managed to build an entire empire out of the whole known
world is to be something put in every history book. Alexander the Great earned his title because he
conquered the whole known world in thirteen years, had military strategies that outdid all the rest, and
was the strongest leader of his

Amy Cuddy Speech
In Amy Cuddy s speech, Your Body Language May Shape Who You Are, she talks about how peoples
body language changes depending on their mood. She also explains how putting yourself in a power
pose when you aren t feeling confident will boost your confidence. This was a very interesting speech
and Amy did a great job at keeping the audience intrigued. She never strayed away from her original
topic so the audience was not confused as to where the speech was leading.
Question #1: Amy Cuddy created a positive ethos by using examples from her life to keep the
audience engaged and entertained through her whole speech. She would crack jokes and make the
audience laugh but she would also talk about serious things while keeping the audience listening. She
even had a funny video of the Prime Minister not shaking someone s hand. Amy had picture examples
in her slide show so the audience didn t get sidetracked or distracted. She told the audience a story
about how she was in a car accident when she was 19 and she was told she would not be able to finish
college. Her IQ dropped two standard deviations and this was devastating to her because she identified
with being smart, it was who she was. She eventually graduated college and got a job at Princeton.
She felt like she didn t belong so she had to fake it until it became part of her. She then explained how
a student who didn t talk all year in one of her classes told her that she didn t belong there. She told

Essay on A P by John Updike
A P
John Updike, one of the most forward thinking and socially provocative writers of the 50s and 60s, is
known for his incisive presentation of the quandaries of contemporary personal and social life. (Lawn
529) Updike graduated from Harvard University and wrote for one of the more cutting edge
publications like The New Yorker both are notoriously ahead of their time and harbor controversial
ideas. In his short story A P , Updike reveals a young man named Sammy in a society on the brink of a
social revolution one in which a group of girls and an innocent cashier will unknowingly lead. Updike,
through symbolism and syntax, shows how the girls are leading the revolution, how Sammy is feeling
the wrath of this revolution, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The girls, despite their obvious fashion faux pas, carry themselves with a certain confidence and
individuality that is rare in this society. Updike has Sammy refer to the other customers as sheep, pigs,
house slaves, and even as having a fuselage revealing how empty these citizens are. The references to
sheep are clear symbols for the conformity of the late 1950s and early 1960s. The trend (or revolution)
towards non conformity is quickly approaching as the three girls are leaders of this new movement.
Their wealth allows them to most likely live within a large city where the world moves much faster
than in the rural regions and even in the suburbs. Whereas cities are always advancing in all aspects,
the small communities, much like the one Sammy lives in, tend to hold onto tradition and more
conservative values. The normal behavior for beach goers in this small town is, as Updike so blatantly
puts it, the women generally put on a shirt or shorts or something before they get out of the car into
the street. (Lawn 401) The three girls are part of a new generation, one that is changing styles of
fashion and lifestyle faster than ever before.
Sammy at first is an innocent onlooker to this fiasco. Sammy devotes much more descriptive quality
to the girls than to anyone or anything else surrounding him. In describing Queenie s bathing suit he
says, the straps were down.

Conqueror Of Basketball
The Conqueror s Sport: Basketball
There is no question as to the immense and still growing popularity of basketball as one of the major
competitive sports in the world. There is almost no major country in the world without an official team
participating in the Federation Internationale Basketball (FIBA) leagues nowadays. Our own country,
the Philippines, loves the sport with a passion.
For all those unfamiliar with the sport (which are very hard to find nowadays), basketball is a two
team game, composed of five players per team, with the goal of scoring the most points in a given
amount of time. A score, or a field goal in technical terms, is made when the basketball is shot through
a hoop, or a basket. The team with more points after 48 minutes ... Show more content on

Some of these countries were colonies, and some were just close neighbors. But nevertheless, this
shows that America has been affecting neocolonialism on countries through basketball, and is most
prominent on countries which America has had influence on. And observations have been made to
prove these claims.Topendsports.com, a website that performs sports related surveys, conducted a
study on the popularity of basketball per country. What s interesting is that the top five of the list are
USA, Philippines, Canada, Australia, and Iran, most of which have had deep connections to America
in their respective pasts. The Philippines was a colony of the States. Canada is the closest
geographically to the US. Iran was involved with the US during that Iraq thingy. As for good ol
Aussie, their culture has some semblances to American culture.
The point is, there seems to be a connection between the popularity of basketball in a country to the
eventuality of interaction between them and America. That in itself is one of the proofs that basketball
has a connection to American Neocolonialism, that the continuity of a country s influence is
maintained by assimilation of a part/s of its culture, in this case,

Tiananmen Square Protest
The most well known and severe conflict during Modern times in China would be the Tiananmen
Square Protests, the conflict between the citizen and the government. Although, the conflict is neither
a civil war (the war between government and citizens) nor coup d état (the sudden seizure of the
government), the incident marked the uprising of the rebellious power and showed Chinese
government s autocratic treatment. Back in 1989, the problem of hyperinflation, which was caused by
the inexpedient economic policies, and the corruption among officials were severe contributed to the
outbreak of protests. The flashpoint of the protest is the sudden death of a rightwing leader, Hu
Yaobang. The memorial ceremony intensified and resulted in widespread

Early Life Stages Of Aging Essay
Aging is a biological process by gradual deterioration of the physiological functions and metabolic
processes. (Hilaire Bakala et al 2012) Exposure to stressful situations during early life can have
intense health consequences and is impaired throughout life. However some cases of this impact do
not become evident until much later in life or decades later, when the individuals begin to show signs
of accelerated ageing. (Katherine A. et al 2014). While understanding the relationship between early
life and longevity has important implications in the field of aging, we have still little information
about the mechanisms involved in the prolonged times scales of stress aging. A stress can stimulate
various pathways leading to increased production of the reactive oxygen species (ROS) it is well
known that are highly reactive and capable of damaged many biological macro molecules such as
DNA, RNA, Proteins, and Lipids (Govinda Rao 1989; Tian et al 1998). The accumulation of oxidative
damaged molecules may cause genetic mutation and cellular senescence (Tian et al 1998). Several
data indicates that mitochondria are mostly affected organelles during aging. ... Show more content on

Richard Wagner s Essay Artwork Of The Future
Richard Wagner was one of the most influential nineteenth century composers behind Beethoven. In
his essay Artwork of the Future, Wagner discusses what he believes should be the future of art and
what art must be thrown out in order to get to the artwork of the future. Throughout his essay Wagner
s use of metaphor and allegory help the reader understand the message he is trying to convey. Wagner
begins his essay by stating that all forms of art are connected in some way. For example dancing gives
music motion while music gives dancing it s rhythm and poetry gives music words while music gives
poetry it s melody. Melody and rhythm for Wagner are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to art.
Wagner believes that the art of the future needs to combine the three different forms of art, dance,
tone, and poetry. He believes the previous attempts at combining them failed miserably. Wagner
writes, write symphonies with or without voices, write masses, oratorios those sexless operatic
embryos! make songs without words, operas without texts; you produce nothing that has real life in it
(Wagner, 6). As he wrote it, Wagner believes that oratorios and the way operas are written in his time
do not belong in the artwork of the future. Wagner liked the way that ... Show more content on

The ship begins its journey with Beethoven s 5th symphony and pushes onward to the major piece of
music that is the cornerstone for artwork of the future in Wagner s eyes, Beethoven s 9th symphony.
The anchor that helped Beethoven set ashore on the new land was the word Joy!. This was the first
word sung by the chorus in the last movement of the ninth symphony and was a shock to the world
when it was performed because no symphony before this had vocal elements. This gave Beethoven s
piece more emotion and depth than any other symphony at the

The Security Of A Network
There are many threats today that can compromise the security of a network. Network security is now
more important as ever as attacks on networks that hold valuable information are being breached, even
with security measures put in place. One of the biggest threats to a network is data theft. Outside
hackers pose the greatest threat. These thieves target a company s network and steal information
through vulnerabilities that they have found in their networks. They usually gain access through the
use of a Trojan horse, which is a program that looks legitimate but can be used by others to gain
access to the network. They may also use a virus or worm, which can infiltrate a network with
malicious code and replicate itself in a network. Others try to gain entry by attempting to crack the
network passwords or user accounts. We hear in the news how networks that were supposed to be
secure were breached and information was stolen that could have negative consequences. Yahoo
discovered that their network had been attacked continuously for the past two years but only recently
discovered it. Information that was stolen ranged from users birth dates to passwords that were
encrypted (Lien). When a network has been successfully breached and information stolen, the
company who has fallen victim to this not only sees their reputation hurt but also suffer a large drop in
their stock prices. This hurts people who may have some shares in that company as many retirement
plans tend to invest

Service Quality Is An Antecedent Of Perceived Value Essay
Service quality is an antecedent of perceived value, and it will cause a significant influence on
perceived value (Bojanic, 1996; Oh, 1999; Sweeney et al., 1999). Ostrom Iacobucci (1995) found that
price, level of quality, friendliness of service personnel, and the degree of customization of the service
are important factors to customer value perceptions. Although customer perceived value has long been
recognized in marketing research as an important concept in influencing preference, satisfaction,
loyalty, and other important outcomes (Cronin et al., 2000), most studies have examined customer
value in the context of offline rather than online customer behavior (Overby Lee, 2006). Although
customer perceived value in the online shopping environment is of crucial importance, previous
studies have neglected that variable (Chang et al., 2005). In an online environment, customers can find
alternatives easily; therefore building long term relationships presents a more difficult challenge for E
commerce companies (Chang Wang, 2011). Gummerus (2010) investigated the impact of three
resource inputs (i.e., service content, service process, and service configurations) on the perceptions of
value of a Finnish health care website. The results reveal that the service content of the discussion
groups had the strongest relationship with customer value, followed by article content and database
content. As to service process security, usability, and responsiveness were all

Lyndon B. Johnson And The Great Society Essay
Lyndon B. Johnson and The Great Society Lyndon Baines Johnson introduced the Great Society, a
strategic plan of action to propose environmental cleanup, decreasing poverty, and helping to further
fund education during his state of the union address in 1965 in a poetic manner. He spoke of it as a
destination that the American people would work toward. Johnson s address gave many Americans
hope and faith in a better world after feeling so much pain following the assassination of John F.
Kennedy. Americans were anxious to move forward as a nation in support of the changed Johnson
proposed. The Great Society was a proposed plan of actions intended to benefit the American people.
Johnson developed the Great Society in a utopian fashion that proposed programs concerning the
cities, the environment and education which in return brought modern liberalism into turmoil and
broadened the administrative state. Taking office after the assassination of John F. Kennedy put
tremendous pressure on Johnson. Not only did he have his own ideas, he also needed to fulfill the
legacy left by Kennedy. In order to do both, he created the Great Society. Johnson wished to create the
glue that kept the American people together and according to Paul C. Aiken and John M. Redding
(1965) he fulfilled his famous words of, Let us continue... while addressing the country after that fatal
day in Dallas and passing several acts to better the country. A politician that Johnson looked up to was

Meeting Of The Minds Project
Personal Reflection Paper Prior to the Meeting of the Minds project, at the beginning of the semester,
I did not think this course on would have much of an effect on me. However, as the weeks went by, I
began to have a different idea of what it meant to be a critical thinker, and I quickly realized how
important it was for me to embody the definition of this type of thinking. As the school year
progressed, I found myself analyzing my perception of the topics friends and family discussed from an
outsider s perspective. While I used to think of myself as a critical thinker, this class made me evaluate
how good I am at analyzing different subjects and whether I actually reach good educated conclusions.
When finding claims to research, I realized how important it is to be educated on different subjects,
regardless of whether it affects one directly or not. Since I have an interest in the medical field, I chose
to find a claim that pertain in one way or another to medicine. Additionally, since I wanted the claim

issues that may or may not come to affect me. Along with this, I have also become cautious of how
authors or speakers portray their stance on a subject, and whether or not they are biased, and as a
result, I believe I now can reach educated conclusions. Thus, all these new acquired skills have
allowed me to become a better critical thinker, for these have given me a more open minded
perspective that helps me not only in other subjects, but also in the real

President Franklin D. Roosevelt s Four Fears
Fear, an emotion that helps people to recognize and respond to dangerous situations and threats. The
most common fear in intractable conflict is the fear of losing one s identity and security. Individuals
and groups identify themselves in certain ways culture, language, race, religion and threats to those
identities arouse very real fears. Fears of extinction, fears of the future, and fears of oppression. On
January 6, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt addresses Congress in an effort to move the nation
away from a foreign policy of neutrality. During his speech Roosevelt insisted that people in all
nations of the world shared Americans entitlement to four freedoms: the freedom of speech and

We humans have not, in our thousands of years on earth, managed to understand the planet we are
living in. It is not just about our resources, but rather nature and our place in it. The way we act
violates a certain harmony in the world causing the fear and hysteria that we dread. In 1929 the stock
market crashed causing overnight chaos and devastation, similarly in 2008 the stock market once
again failed surpassing even the Great Depression of 1929. Among the public there was only
ignorance as to what to do in both situations. They withdrew money and Wall Street plummeted to its
all time low. Patterns that could have been seen from 1929 were not caught in 2008. Unfortunately,
history does repeat itself. In both cases, the fear of what was occurring had people protesting and
Turing to the federal government for help. The fear of loosing something took hold of people s minds
and how they reacted to the event, not just in 1929 but it paralleled in 2008. In both of these cases, the
third of the four freedoms is being violated; Freedom from want. Although not entirely the fault of the
US Government or even the stock market, this inability to protect the people from stress in acquiring
basic necessities and instead turning to greed violates the Third

My Family As An Extended Family
Introduction From an early age I placed a very high value on being a part of my family. At first it was
most likely feeling safe and secure. That being said, I had the logical realization that family was
important. Of special importance were grandparents and the extended family members. Being born in
a town where both sets of grandparents resided in addition to all the rest of my extended family was
very comforting to me. Being the first born grandchild had its advantages. I became very attached to
all the grandparents and enjoyed love, attention and quality time frequently until the first grade when
we moved. When my younger sister was born, I never felt replaced or left out because of the quality
time my grandparents invested in me. Even after my family moved a state away we always went back
for holidays, birthdays and summer vacations. I have a great deal of wonderful memories from my
childhood. My mother s father, my grandfather, was a very large presence in the community. He was
well respected in both the white as well as the black community in which he owned a grocery store.
This was unusual because there was a lot of racial tension and discrimination in Southern Alabama in
the 1960 s. He was a tall man at six foot five and was a hard worker. He often bailed people out of jail
and helped them with food when they were financially strapped anonymously. He was a Sunday
school teacher and had good moral values. I learned later that before I came along he had been an
alcoholic, a smoker, had been known for his quick temper, was not religious and had been unfaithful
to my grandmother. As it was told to me, one Sunday morning he got up, got dressed, went to church
and never took another drink or smoked again and was a radically changed man. He became a kind,
caring, charitable person. He was more of a father to me in many ways than my dad and we had long
talks in which he stressed the important things in life. He and my grandmother took my sister and I
fishing on the lake. We camped in the camper. We stayed for vacations at the Gulf of Mexico. The
stories he told, lessons I learned and loving affection he genuinely offered is something I consider a
gift I have never forgotten. The reason I never forgot is

Understandably, those who play to win are not satisfied until they do, but there is a fine line between
obsession and competition. The Prestige directed by Christopher Nolan, is about two magicians

obsession. The loss of Angier s wife Julia s life during a performance, Angier blames Borden for not
tying the right knot, inwhich he is unable to recall which he tied the night of her death. The Prestige
teaches the lesson that each obsession eventually leads to personal sacrafices, shows that there is
sacrafice in every choice you make. Borden sacrifices his family by alienating his wife, Sarah, and

Indications For Liver Biopsy And Histological Assessment...
INDICATIONS FOR LIVER BIOPSY
Liver biopsy and histological assessment of the liver has now taken on an important role in clinical
management. Therefore liver biopsy currently has two major roles:
(A) Diagnostic purposes: Liver biopsy is helpful in diagnosis of many forms of liver disease such as
acute and chronic hepatitis (Wilson disease, alpha 1 antitrypsin disease, glycogen storage diseases,
AIH, NiemannPick disease and others), cholestatic disorders, fatty liver disease, vascular diseases,
infiltrative or storage diseases, some infectious diseases, and other disorders that may be associated
with characteristic histological abnormalities. It also plays a role in the diagnosis of patients with
abnormal liver tests of unknown etiology (Czaja et al., 2007). (B) Liver biopsy in the assessment of
known liver disease: Liver histology is also commonly used in disease monitoring of patients with
AIH. First, the portal based plasma cell infiltrate may predict relapse and second, liver biopsy is often
obtained prior to steroid dose reduction and/or discontinuation of immunosuppressive therapy
(Rockey et al., 2009). 1 Neonatal Cholestasis Some forms of neonatal cholestasis can be identified
biochemically and genetically, but others require LB.
Biliary atresia (BA): Typically neonates with BA have acholic stools, firm livers, and abnormal values
for biochemical markers of hepatobiliary injury. Histopathologic evaluation permits diagnosis of BA
in 96% of adequate LB

Rousseau s Theory Of The General Will
In Rousseau s Social Contract, he presents the doctrine of the general will, which has two distinct
strands. The first strand states that the general will comprises of the will of the assembled people, if
certain conditions are met; the second strand says that the general will is always right and always
tends to the public utility. This inconsistent definition has brought confusion upon what the general
will actually is, and brings to question whether or not these two parts can be reconciled to form one
concrete definition. Since Rousseau s explanation is paradoxical, the point of this essay is to clarify
what the connection between these two aspects, reason why they cannot be put together and determine
that the first aspect is the more important one for Rousseau s view. In this paper, I will explain what
the general will is by explaining the two strands, evaluate them, and then I will end this paper with the
conclusion that these two aspects cannot be put together, and that the first definition is the more
important one. The two aspects cannot be reconciled, as they represent different things the first
represents where the general will comes from, and the second is more of a representation of what the
general will would be in ideal circumstances, yet the first one is the primary aspect, as it expresses the
collective decision made by the people. Rousseau s first strand of the general will is described as the
will of the assembled people, which means that it is the

Ethical Problems Faced by Actuaries in Business Some...
Cover Sheet
Executive Summary
Our group, The Super Six focussed our research on the problem of ethics and actuarial science. As
Sholom Feldblum states The actuary has a dual role: an objective professional providing guidance on
insurance issues and a business manager promoting the goals of an insurance company (Sholom
Feldblum, pg.1). The purpose of our research was to determine the most common ethical problems an
actuary faces, and the most appropriate methods to solve these problems. Solutions were necessary so
that our stakeholders, current and prospective actuaries, will have more guidance when faced with
these dilemmas. In the valuation sector, we found that the two main conflicts faced by the actuary

Through this report, we will explore these subtopics in great detail, and offer several solutions to these
three most common ethical situations an actuary encounters, as well as recommendations on how to
avoid these ethical problems from ever arising.
Methods
Our primary means of research was the internet. We found most of our sources by exploring the many
professional actuarial groups, and looking through their collections of articles and periodicals. We
found that our best sources were from professional organizations such as the Society of Actuaries, and
the Casualty Actuarial Society, both publish periodicals with reliable articles from accredited
actuaries. This method of searching through articles put out by professional organizations was most
effective for us because all of the articles were written by fully qualified actuaries who have first hand
experience working through the ethical conflicts that we describe in our report. All our articles are first
reviewed by the professional organization that publishes them, to ensure that they contain accurate,
and relevant information, which allowed us to keep all our conclusions professional and our
arguments strong. We also used several court documents containing actuarial testimonies about policy
rates, and proper returns on investments. These documents were very useful, as all the information
was very accurate given the legal process required and the extensive background checks and research
that went into

Discrimination, Discrimination And Discrimination Essay
Unfortunately, discrimination has been occurring in America for hundreds of years. Evidence proves
this when the European settlers began colonizing America and making the Native American people
their slaves. It didn t stop there, discrimination and racism was even more apparent when the Jim
Crow Laws were passed. The Jim Crow Laws enforced segregation between the whites and the
African Americans. For years, the unlucky Americans of all races, colors, and sexual orientation have
endured discrimination at some point in their lives. One major issue that many Americans endure is
discrimination in the work place. Throughout the years, learning how to avoid discrimination has
become a priority.
Police chief Crystal Moore of Latta, South Carolina had to experience her own battle with
discrimination. Chief Moore has been the Police Chief of Latta County for 23 years when she was
fired for reasons believing related to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender or LGBT lifestyle.
Chief Moore is an openly Lesbian Police Chief who has not encountered any issues prior to being
fired by Mayor Earl Bullard. Mayor Bullard had become Mayor this year, in 2016. When Mayor
Bullard was questioned about the termination of police chief Moore, he claimed it was due to the
seven reprimands of questionable behavior, difficulty with maintaining order and other reasons that
were not disclosed. Chief Moore claimed none of those reprimands were true, and she had done
nothing wrong or unethical. Chief

away from the golf course until it is nearly impossible to get back on track. (Pros) At first the change
is hardly noticeable, but later its consequences are so devastating that its new course is completely
transformed from the course it used to be on. (Pros) Like this situation, DeMarco says that one bad
choice can set one s trajectory off by only one fraction of a degree today, but in the future the error is
magnified and has monumental consequences. (Pros) What appears to be a good choice, ends up being
a bad choice in the end. This idea connects to two of the main themes in Frankenstein or A Modern
Prometheus: the dangerous pursuit of knowledge and fate versus free will. The choice to pursue
knowledge may be appealing, but it has life threatening consequences, like fate for instance. In
Frankenstein or A Modern Prometheus, Mary Shelley uses the motif of light to illuminate and connect
the themes of fate vs. free will and the dangers of the pursuit of knowledge.
The motif of light establishes a connection with the theme of the pursuit of dangerous knowledge by
forming the concept that light is the way to knowledge. This motif/idea is first introduced in Walton s
first letter when he says, What may not be expected in a country of eternal light? (Shelley 11) Walton

Elora Gorge Research Paper
This photograph was taken on a field trip to Elora Gorge. Elora Gorge is an important landscape in
Ontario and is also a prime example of significant change to a landscape by physical processes.
Largely, it is the result of erosion by water at the end of the last glacial period. The most recent glacier
over North America, the Laurentide Ice Sheet, resided almost all over Canada. Eventually, the sheet
melted, allowing water possessing a strong stream discharge to be released in numerous directions.
One of these melt out pathways formed the Elora Gorge. Similar to how other gorges are created, it
was the energy of the river water rushing from the melting glacier that was able to cut into the surface
of the bedrock. Streams carved through

Dry Peas Lab Report
The two hypotheses tested during the experiment were the warmer the temperature, the more oxygen
will be consumed, and the germinated peas will consume more oxygen than the dry peas. Some
conditions that had to remain constant in this experiment were that each vial had to have the same
volume to let us know that the volume of the vial wouldn t affect the respiration rate. Had the volumes
been different, the respiration rate might have been affected. Another constant was the 7 minute
equilibrium period before completely submerging the vials in the water. This allowed the peas and the

Satyricon Essay
The Satyricon, like many other works written in the time of early Ancient Rome, is a narrative whose
author is not known definitively. However, the best candidate from the time was Titus Petronius
(Arbiter). The story, looking especially from the scene Dinner with Trimalchio, is a satiric masterwork
of the pragmatic and materialistic attitude of the time, soon to be replaced by Christianity. Dinner with
Trimalchio tells a tale from the perspective of Encolpius, a vagabond student of the master
Agamemnon, who is invited along as a pupil of Agamemnon to a banquet. The host of the banquet is
Gaius Trimalchio, who was once a slave but now a freedman millionaire, who worked hard to attain
his power and wealthy status. Trimalchio is known ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Classical gender roles make the women behave as if they are second class citizens, being grateful to
be in the presence of a powerful male figure; where in actuality, Fortunata, Trimalchio s wife, sold her
jewelry to finance Trimalchio s first wine selling business, which is how he made his millions.
Without the help and generosity of Fortunata, Trimalchio would, himself, be a second class citizen
who struggles to pay for daily bread, like most of the poor lower class Romans.
Another way Petronius exemplifies his purpose of writing this story is showing the importance of
education in ancient Rome during the time, and how the culture valued it so much. Agamemnon, the
scholarly teacher and friend of Trimalchio, is very well respected by the populace of the story. There is
one passage in particular where Trimalchio tries to spark a conversation with Agamemnon about the
stores of Hercules and Ulysses wherein Trimalchio makes obvious to Agamemnon that he is not well
read in Homer s literature, yet pretends to be. Trimalchio questions, Do you remember the twelve
labours of Hercules and the story of Ulysses how the Cyclops tore out his thumb with a pair of
pincers. I used to read about them in Homer, when I was a boy. In fact I actually saw the Sibyl at
Cumae with my own eyes dangling in a bottle. This unintelligent miscue may not be noticed amongst

The About The Dancing Plague

October 9,2016 Everyone has heard the phrase dance til you drop , right? Well, in the year 1518, some
people started to take that literally. I ve always been a fan of things that nobody could explain. I think
it s incredible that with all of the advancements in technology and science, there s still things that have
happened that make people scratch their heads and go, huh? When writing this speech, I considered
several different possibilities, the Bermuda Triangle, Amelia Earhart, but I finally settled on this. This
particular unexplained incident happened, as I said, in the year 1518. Today, I plan to explain to you
guys what the Dancing Plague was, similar instances and effects, and what could have possibly caused
it.
First, let me give you the background. In the year 1518 a single woman suddenly began dancing in the
streets of Strasbourg, France. There was no music playing at the time to prompt her to start dancing
and evidently, she seemed upset to be dancing. By the end of a week, somewhere between thirty and
forty people had started to dance with her. Within a month, more than 400 people were dancing,
without stopping. For whatever reason, the authorities and leaders of the town seemed to think that the
best way to stop the dancing was to keep people dancing. It makes no sense to me, but I guess they
figured they would dance it out of their system. They built a stage for them to dance on, got
professional dancers to dance with

The Transition to Postmodernism Essay
The Transition to Postmodernism
Works Cited Not Included
Postmodernism is a difficult term to define, as it is evident in many different disciplines, such as art,
literature, architecture, technology, and, the precise emerging moment of this movement is also hard to
identify. In order to truly understand `Postmodernism, one must first identify with `Modernism and it s
subsequent decline which led to the appearance of the Post modern ear. It is often suggested that
Postmodernity is simply a continuation or advancement of Modernity. For example, Bauman, (Crook,
Pakulski, Walters, 1992: p.2) claims that `Postmodernism is simply a replacement of classical Modern
capitalist society . However, this assumption has undergone much debate ... Show more content on

The sudden upheaval of Modernism was not wholly shocking, as it did offer some assurance as to
direction this change was taking; modern societies were going to grow and differentiate. (Crook,
Pakulski, Walters, 1992: p.2) This can be seen in Anderson s text, Modernity and Revolution. In it, he
evokes the arguments of Marshall Berman in All That Is Solid Melts Into Air, in which Berman shone
light once again on the relationship between Modernity and revolution. Modernism is acknowledged
as a `body of experience (Anderson, EL875) of which is universally and globally shared. Berman and
Anderson reflect on Modernism in a positive way, underlining that it can unite all mankind. This
movement, according to Anderson, would not only envelope experiences of adventure and
development, but would also, as I mentioned previously, endanger all that we are familiar with, and
thus, in Marx s words, all that is solid melts into air. (Anderson, EL875; p.317)
Anderson questions the propeller of this whirlpool of change and identifies the initiator as
socioeconomic modernization ; these being social processes such as scientific advances and
urbanization. These new ideas and visions allow each person to change and claim this new age as their
own. Anderson distinguishes the connection between the terms `Modernity, `Modernization; and
`Modernism. He states that `Modernity is the process which links the economics of `Modernization
and the culture of `Modernism. This is the

Viagra
History: Viagra also known as sildenafil citrate was originally synthesized at Pfizer headquarters in
Sandwich, Kent, England by a group of pharmaceutical chemists in 1989. The two people who are
attributed with creating sildenafil citrate, and who were consequently the most important in doing
research and development on the drug were chemists Peter Dunn and Albert Wood. They originally
composed this drug, sildenafil citrate, to help treat angina and high blood pressure, two symptoms that
are usually indicative of coronary heart disease. The drug is classified as UK 92480. Later, in 1991,
when the drug is patented by Dr. Nicholas Terrett, who is also referred to as the father of Viagra ,
sildenafil citrate received its modern name, Viagra. A few years afterward, in the early 1990s, Pfizer
compiles several early test in order to prove Viagra s capabilities in reducing angina and treating high
blood pressure. These trials, however, prove that Viagra is not effective at treating this symptoms at
all, although the trial patients were reporting ongoing erections after consuming Viagra. This got
Pfizer thinking, and in March of 1998, Pfizer re patents Viagra and the FDA approves it, and instead
markets it as a drug to help people who are suffering from erectile dysfunction (ED), and this time
Pfizer has research to back their claim. In the first year alone, over 40,000 prescriptions were written

Socialism And Capitalism In George Orwell s 1984
Governments are formed through people rising to power in various methods whether it be force or
public elections. The most common forms of governments are democracies, republics, and
monarchies. All forms of government have different aspects that make them unique from each other.
In 1984 George Orwell combines the worst elements of socialism and capitalism to form INGSOC, a
government that controls society and forces the worship of Big Brother and his totalitarian regime. A
democracy in its purest form allows its citizens to have an equal say in decisions that affect their

showing how there is a division between the rich and the poor, A mob of two or three hundred woman

What Are The Persuasive Techniques Used In Channel 4
INTRODUCTION:
Advertisements are actually everywhere and are used by many companies and organisations.
Advertisements have become a powerful foundation to sell products or information for the consumer s
knowledge by the use of persuasion, fear, shock tactics and statistics. The purpose of advertisements is
to persuade their audience into buying their product or getting a message across. Without
advertisements, companies would not be able to develop in their competitive business. BBC s
advertisement of the 2012 Summer Olympics and Channel 4 s advertisement of the 2012 Paralympics
are analogous and can be compared to its sources of form, language, audience, purpose, and context,
which are used to improvise its persuasive techniques.

This is manifested through the use of nationalistic landmarks and prominent locations within the two
texts and is used to sense nationalism to the audience as they can relate to these iconic locations and
can virtually feel as if they have taken participation in the Games. Hence the targeted audience is
persuaded to watch the broadcast to remain feeling involved. The mutual purpose of both
advertisements is to induce consumers into screening the specific broadcasting network coverage of
the games. Channel 4 s campaign is primarily composed of athletes from the United Kingdom,
whereas the athletes in the BBC s campaign are distinct from specific nations. Hence it can be
distinguished that the intended target audience for the two texts is the general public of the United
Kingdom by analysing the context within the two visual texts. BBC s advertisement has achieved its
audience by the presence of dramatic music and animations which resembled participation in events
with passion and energetic performance. Inversely, Channel 4 has freshly introduced Paralympics to
gain its popularity and viewers as it is very miniature compared with the Olympics. Channel 4 has
achieved its audience by showing the playing style of the incapacitated athletes and portraying the
causes of their physical flaw. The purpose behind it was to show sympathy

He was never afraid of the enemy because he knew God was with him, even when faced with
impossible takes, Such as when Saul offered David his Daughter to be his wife, and not a dowry in
exchange, but the lives of one hundred Philistines. David said he would double that, and he did,
claiming Michal, Saul s daughter, as his wife which Saul though he could trip him up with. Saul began
to so David as his enemy, and David just kept a good attitude and all the people loved him even more.
Most men, after being treated that poorly and almost killed by the man you were supposed to succeed,
would already have killed Saul, or at least had him killed instead of waiting on the Lord. David, on the
other hand, knew he would be king eventually and instead did something constructive and tried to
learn to be a better king for the day that he would be made king. He even gives the extremely valuable
sword of Goliath as a tithe to the Lord, And even though God does not exactly make it easy for him in
this next chapter of his life, he never curses or blames God; he knows He has a plan. David is a
shining example of what anyone should do when they pray for something and God answers Wait.
David, ironically, was best friends with Jonathan, Saul s son. Their souls were knit (1 Samuel 18:1) it
says, which meant they were bonded and very close, in fact they laid their lives down for each other
and risked a lot by staying friends. Jonathan

Mastitis is the inflammation of the mammary gland (Damron 685). It looks nothing like it should.
Mastitis makes the milk very stringy and clumpy. It can be caused by many different things. Most
common bacteria that causes mastitis are: Coagulase negative staphylococci bacteria and Mycoplasma
capricolum. Other things that can cause mastitis are yeast infections and frequent use of penicillin.
Mastitis can be fatal if it is not treated. Your does (nanny goats) will usually show signs of mastitis by
one or both of the teats being swollen and warm to the touch. Its very painful for them. Sometimes
mastitis shows no signs until it is too late to treat. Treatment for mastitis can be very costly! First you

Examples Of Mistreatment And Inequality In The 13th Amendment
Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall
have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States (Lantigua Williams). As stated in the
constitution, the Thirteenth amendment states that no person can be treated as a slave; the exception to
this statement is the fact that the revision to the constitution says that anyone who is convicted of a
crime can be treated like a slave. African Americans have been oppressed since they were brought
over from Africa; consequently, they are constantly fighting the war on racism and having numerous
struggles to overcome. The 13th shows in detail the different forms of mistreatment and inequality that
people of color experience. Ava Duverney uses exceptional historical evidence, different forms of
media, and expert advice to show that ever since the passage of the Thirteenth amendment, there has
been an increase in the incarceration statistics of African Americans. Ironically, the United States is
commonly called the land of the free, but five out of twenty five percent of the world s population is
incarcerated in the American prison system (Filmmaker). Duverney s main topic that she focuses on in
her film is the loophole that was present in the Thirteenth amendment. To avoid a public display of
slavery, the police force arrested people, particularly African American men, based on false
accusations or for minor offenses. On April 19, 1989, three teenagers were accused

carried out steadily. Also, open communication cannot happen if one does not trust their leader. Next,
a leader must be motivated and have energy. If a leader is not motivated, those who are following
them are also not going to be motivated either. Someone has to be able to push others to keep up the
hard work to get to where they need to be. Lastly, a leader needs to be knowledgeable. At work, often
when faced with something that I do not know the answer to, I go to my charge nurse who is very
knowledgeable on almost all situations that may arise. If lacking any vital knowledge, staff under that
leader will not have anyone to go to in times of need. This leads to the follower being lost and not

The Different Branches of Yoga
In ancient times yoga reffered to as a tree, a living thing with roots, a trunk, branches, blossoms, and

The small amount of breastfeeding intention research that exists focuses heavily on populations
considered at risk, referring to those in economically disadvantaged areas or lower wage earners with

breastfeeding are most likely to want to breastfeed and those with negative associations with
breastfeeding are most likely to choose not to breastfeed.
In studies where women were selected as the result of choosing not to breastfeed, researchers found
heightened levels of expressed personal reasons that reflected negative associations with
breastfeeding, including a lack of consistent education by hospital staff (Ogbuanu et al., 2009; Shaker
et al., 2004; Wirihana Barnard, 2011). Education in mixed method feedings was lacking at all levels of
intention to breastfeed, Geraghty et al. (2013) noted, even in a population study that was based on
respondents who wanted to breastfeed, and sought professional help for problems while breastfeeding.
Intention is also linked to the expected success of breastfeeding, as indicated by Attanasio et al.

William Henry Harrison Is Not The Most Well Known President
William Henry Harrison is not the most well known President because of his extremely short term in
office before his untimely death. Before he was elected President of the United States however,
Harrison was not only the Governor of the Indiana Territory, he was also a Major General in the
Continental Army. One of the largest reasons for his successful campaign for President was his
prowess as a military tactician and his expert use of the mission command system. During the famous
Battle of Tippecanoe, Governor Harrison demonstrated excellent mission command through his use of
the six doctrinal tenants and decisively won the battle for American colonials, thus creating the ability
to continue expansion westward and weakening British ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Commanders continuously develop, test, and update their understanding throughout the conduct of
operations. They actively collaborate with other commanders, the staff, and unified action partners, to
create a shared understanding. Understanding the mission is a crucial step to start the military decision
making process because not understanding the task at hand will create blurred vision of the
commander s intent for any given mission. As Governor of the Indiana Territory, Harrison understood
that the treaties with the Native Confederacy were extremely fragile. As Tecumseh and his brother s
efforts to demean the treaties value continued, Governor Harrison realized that a conflict was
inevitable inside his territory. Harrison suggested, as a means to prevent war, that the calamity might
be avoided by marching a considerable force up the Wabash and dispersing the banditti the Prophet
had collected. With the idea of preemptive attack firmly planted in his head, he sowed the seeds for
the eventual battle that later ensued. Harrison also had received intelligence that the great Native
leader Tecumseh was recruiting more warriors to his cause, which furthered the fear that the Natives
would grow stronger and eventually raid the settlers to take back some of the lands ceded from them.
This intelligence furthered the idea to Harrison that he needed to field an army and quell the Native
rebellion before it got too out of hand. The

The Olympic Ice Hockey Team Winning A Game
The Miracle on Ice was more than just the United States Olympic Ice Hockey Team winning a game.
The win for the United States had major political impacts on the United States, the Soviet Union and
the Cold War.
The Soviet Union entered the Lake Placid games as the favorite, having won the last four ice hockey
gold medals all the way back to the 1964 games. In the four Olympics following their 1960 loss to
Team USA at Squaw Valley, Soviet teams had gone 27 1 1 and outscored the opposition 175 44. In
match ups against the United States, the total score over those games was 28 7 with Russia outscoring
the US. The Soviet players, some were active duty military, played in an elite league in world class
training facilities. Many of the Soviet players were seasoned veterans with a lot of experience in
international play. The United States head coach, Herb Brooks, conducted tryouts in Colorado Springs
in the summer of 1979. Of the 20 players who eventually made the final Olympic roster, Buzz
Schneider was the only one returning from the 1976 Olympic team. Nine players had played under
Brooks at the University of Minnesota, which included Rob McClanahan, Mike Ramsey, and Phil
Verchota. Boston College and University of Minnesota were perennial rivals in college hockey and the
hostility spilled over from some of these players when they ended up being teammates on the US
Olympic team during the first few months. The average age of the U.S. team was 21 years old, making
it the

Defining Fundamental Pattern of Nursing Knowledge
As a nursing professional, several aspects of knowledge are involved in the application of care. The
fundamental pattern of nursing knowledge starts with science or empirical evidences governed by
factual and explicit information and acceptable knowledge, such as the procedures and guidelines of
nursing practice. It is derived from scientific methodology that supports the intellectual explanation of
health and illness phenomena and the processes involve in the cycle of human life. (Carper, 1978).

Description Of The Age Of Viability
Samuel Joseph
Worksheet #2
1. Describe the age of viability .
By 21 to 22 weeks after fertilization, the lungs gain some room to breathe air. This is called the age of
viability because survival outside the womb becomes possible for some fetuses.
2. Describe some of the rapid growth that takes place during the first two years of life.
Growth is speedy during the first two years of life. The child s mass, form, senses, and organs undergo
change. As each physical change occurs, the child gains new abilities. Physical development during
the first year of the child s life, mainly involves the infant coordinating motor skills. The infant builds
physical strength and motor coordination by repeating several motor actions.
3. When was the last time that you saw an infant? Describe what the baby was doing.
The last time I seen an infant was when I was at my uncle house before I left for school. Although it
was quiet and not making any noise the baby was very observant and was aware when I came in the
room. He had his pacifier and I picked him up to play with him briefly before I left.
4. Briefly describe the most frequent activity that an infant does. Now...take your own sleep quiz and
see if you are sleep deprived.
The most frequent activity an infant does is cry and babble. Crying is almost an automatic thing when
it comes to infants, you really have to be able to understand the reason in which they are crying for
and act on it.
5. Briefly describe the growth of the infant brain

Comparing Gettysburg Address And I Have A Dream Speech
There are two famous speeches made by two greatly famous people. These speeches are the
Gettysburg Address, and the I Have a Dream speech, which can both be compared and contrasted in
many ways. There are many similarities and differences in these two speeches , such as the purpose,
tone, and structure of them. The first concept that can be used to decipher these two speeches is their
purpose. Both of these two speeches have different purposes. Abraham Lincoln s speech, the
Gettysburg Address was made to give people hope and motivation to change what is happening
around them. He does this by saying that It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the
unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. This quote motivates
people to want ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both Martin Luther King Jr. and Abraham Lincoln use facts and details to support their cause. King
uses more figurative language in his speech though, where as compared to Lincoln which uses purley
facts. An example of this would be when King uses metaphors to compare the negros to the whites and
how segregation affects the blacks. A quote for this would be Now it is time to lift our nation from the
quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. ( I Have a Dream ) He is comparing
segregation and racial injustice to quicksand and no segregation and brotherhood to rocks. Lincoln
simply says what we should do and he gives the people reasons to keep fighting. An example of this
would be when he says It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this. (Gettysburg address)
Therefore, this proves that he is trying to give the people motivation. Although they may have these
differences, they have one element that is similar. Both King and Lincoln use highly intelligent words
and phrases to sound knowledgeable to get the listeners attention. We can also use the introductions of
the two

His name still catches our attention till this very day, it wasn t a normal occurrence for a young man, age, to conquer the known world. Our goal is to learn what made Alexander the Great so great? He once said, There is nothing impossible to him who will try. He definitely believed in achieving his goals not only for himself, but for his empire to grow and be as successful as possible. Alexander was born to Phillip II of Macedonia and Olympias, the princess of Epirus, in 356 BCE. As a young boy, Alexander did not see his father much due to the fact that Phillip II was constantly with his army in battles. Olympias managed to serve as a strong role model ... Roxana was said to send for Stateira II to be murdered to ensure that Roxana s child for Alexander would get the throne. It is debated whether or not Parysatis II was killed by Roxana as well, but many believe that Roxana would do whatever it took to make sure Alexander IV would be Alexander the Great s successor. Later in 310 B.C. Roxana and the thirteen year old Alexander IV were murdered to ensure the splitting of the kingdom among the generals was a bulletproof plan. Thus ending Alexander the Great s son possibility of coming to know the empire his father had built. In conclusion, saying Alexander the Great s legacy was amazing is an understatement. To know that a man only took 13 years and managed to build an entire empire out of the whole known world is to be something put in every history book. Alexander the Great earned his title because he conquered the whole known world in thirteen years, had military strategies that outdid all the rest, and was the strongest leader of his ... • 3. Amy Cuddy Speech In Amy Cuddy s speech, Your Body Language May Shape Who You Are, she talks about how peoples body language changes depending on their mood. She also explains how putting yourself in a power pose when you aren t feeling confident will boost your confidence. This was a very interesting speech and Amy did a great job at keeping the audience intrigued. She never strayed away from her original topic so the audience was not confused as to where the speech was leading. Question #1: Amy Cuddy created a positive ethos by using examples from her life to keep the audience engaged and entertained through her whole speech. She would crack jokes and make the audience laugh but she would also talk about serious things while keeping the audience listening. She even had a funny video of the Prime Minister not shaking someone s hand. Amy had picture examples in her slide show so the audience didn t get sidetracked or distracted. She told the audience a story about how she was in a car accident when she was 19 and she was told she would not be able to finish college. Her IQ dropped two standard deviations and this was devastating to her because she identified with being smart, it was who she was. She eventually graduated college and got a job at Princeton. She felt like she didn t belong so she had to fake it until it became part of her. She then explained how a student who didn t talk all year in one of her classes told her that she didn t belong there. She told the student that she did ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay on A P by John Updike A P John Updike, one of the most forward thinking and socially provocative writers of the 50s and 60s, is known for his incisive presentation of the quandaries of contemporary personal and social life. (Lawn 529) Updike graduated from Harvard University and wrote for one of the more cutting edge publications like The New Yorker both are notoriously ahead of their time and harbor controversial ideas. In his short story A P , Updike reveals a young man named Sammy in a society on the brink of a social revolution one in which a group of girls and an innocent cashier will unknowingly lead. Updike, through symbolism and syntax, shows how the girls are leading the revolution, how Sammy is feeling the wrath of this revolution, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The girls, despite their obvious fashion faux pas, carry themselves with a certain confidence and individuality that is rare in this society. Updike has Sammy refer to the other customers as sheep, pigs, house slaves, and even as having a fuselage revealing how empty these citizens are. The references to sheep are clear symbols for the conformity of the late 1950s and early 1960s. The trend (or revolution) towards non conformity is quickly approaching as the three girls are leaders of this new movement. Their wealth allows them to most likely live within a large city where the world moves much faster than in the rural regions and even in the suburbs. Whereas cities are always advancing in all aspects, the small communities, much like the one Sammy lives in, tend to hold onto tradition and more conservative values. The normal behavior for beach goers in this small town is, as Updike so blatantly puts it, the women generally put on a shirt or shorts or something before they get out of the car into the street. (Lawn 401) The three girls are part of a new generation, one that is changing styles of fashion and lifestyle faster than ever before. Sammy at first is an innocent onlooker to this fiasco. Sammy devotes much more descriptive quality to the girls than to anyone or anything else surrounding him. In describing Queenie s bathing suit he says, the straps were down. ... • 5. Conqueror Of Basketball The Conqueror s Sport: Basketball There is no question as to the immense and still growing popularity of basketball as one of the major competitive sports in the world. There is almost no major country in the world without an official team participating in the Federation Internationale Basketball (FIBA) leagues nowadays. Our own country, the Philippines, loves the sport with a passion. For all those unfamiliar with the sport (which are very hard to find nowadays), basketball is a two team game, composed of five players per team, with the goal of scoring the most points in a given amount of time. A score, or a field goal in technical terms, is made when the basketball is shot through a hoop, or a basket. The team with more points after 48 minutes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What s interesting is that the top five of the list are USA, Philippines, Canada, Australia, and Iran, most of which have had deep connections to America in their respective pasts. The Philippines was a colony of the States. Canada is the closest geographically to the US. Iran was involved with the US during that Iraq thingy. As for good ol Aussie, their culture has some semblances to American culture. The point is, there seems to be a connection between the popularity of basketball in a country to the eventuality of interaction between them and America. That in itself is one of the proofs that basketball has a connection to American Neocolonialism, that the continuity of a country s influence is maintained by assimilation of a part/s of its culture, in this case, ... • 7. Early Life Stages Of Aging Essay Aging is a biological process by gradual deterioration of the physiological functions and metabolic processes. (Hilaire Bakala et al 2012) Exposure to stressful situations during early life can have intense health consequences and is impaired throughout life. However some cases of this impact do not become evident until much later in life or decades later, when the individuals begin to show signs of accelerated ageing. (Katherine A. et al 2014). While understanding the relationship between early life and longevity has important implications in the field of aging, we have still little information about the mechanisms involved in the prolonged times scales of stress aging. A stress can stimulate various pathways leading to increased production of the reactive oxygen species (ROS) it is well known that are highly reactive and capable of damaged many biological macro molecules such as DNA, RNA, Proteins, and Lipids (Govinda Rao 1989; Tian et al 1998). • 8. Richard Wagner s Essay Artwork Of The Future Richard Wagner was one of the most influential nineteenth century composers behind Beethoven. In his essay Artwork of the Future, Wagner discusses what he believes should be the future of art and what art must be thrown out in order to get to the artwork of the future. Throughout his essay Wagner s use of metaphor and allegory help the reader understand the message he is trying to convey. Wagner begins his essay by stating that all forms of art are connected in some way. For example dancing gives music motion while music gives dancing it s rhythm and poetry gives music words while music gives poetry it s melody. Melody and rhythm for Wagner are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to art. Wagner believes that the art of the future needs to combine the three different forms of art, dance, tone, and poetry. He believes the previous attempts at combining them failed miserably. Wagner writes, write symphonies with or without voices, write masses, oratorios those sexless operatic embryos! make songs without words, operas without texts; you produce nothing that has real life in it (Wagner, 6). As he wrote it, Wagner believes that oratorios and the way operas are written in his time do not belong in the artwork of the future. Wagner liked the way that ... The anchor that helped Beethoven set ashore on the new land was the word Joy!. • 9. The Security Of A Network There are many threats today that can compromise the security of a network. Network security is now more important as ever as attacks on networks that hold valuable information are being breached, even with security measures put in place. One of the biggest threats to a network is data theft. Outside hackers pose the greatest threat. These thieves target a company s network and steal information through vulnerabilities that they have found in their networks. They usually gain access through the use of a Trojan horse, which is a program that looks legitimate but can be used by others to gain access to the network. They may also use a virus or worm, which can infiltrate a network with malicious code and replicate itself in a network. Others try to gain entry by attempting to crack the network passwords or user accounts. We hear in the news how networks that were supposed to be secure were breached and information was stolen that could have negative consequences. Yahoo discovered that their network had been attacked continuously for the past two years but only recently discovered it. Information that was stolen ranged from users birth dates to passwords that were encrypted (Lien). When a network has been successfully breached and information stolen, the company who has fallen victim to this not only sees their reputation hurt but also suffer a large drop in their stock prices. This hurts people who may have some shares in that company as many retirement plans tend to invest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Service Quality Is An Antecedent Of Perceived Value Essay Service quality is an antecedent of perceived value, and it will cause a significant influence on perceived value (Bojanic, 1996; Oh, 1999; Sweeney et al., 1999). Ostrom Iacobucci (1995) found that price, level of quality, friendliness of service personnel, and the degree of customization of the service are important factors to customer value perceptions. Although customer perceived value has long been recognized in marketing research as an important concept in influencing preference, satisfaction, loyalty, and other important outcomes (Cronin et al., 2000), most studies have examined customer value in the context of offline rather than online customer behavior (Overby Lee, 2006). Although customer perceived value in the online shopping environment is of crucial importance, previous studies have neglected that variable (Chang et al., 2005). In an online environment, customers can find alternatives easily; therefore building long term relationships presents a more difficult challenge for E commerce companies (Chang Wang, 2011). Gummerus (2010) investigated the impact of three resource inputs (i.e., service content, service process, and service configurations) on the perceptions of value of a Finnish health care website. The results reveal that the service content of the discussion groups had the strongest relationship with customer value, followed by article content and database content. • 11. Lyndon B. Johnson And The Great Society Essay Lyndon B. Johnson and The Great Society Lyndon Baines Johnson introduced the Great Society, a strategic plan of action to propose environmental cleanup, decreasing poverty, and helping to further fund education during his state of the union address in 1965 in a poetic manner. He spoke of it as a destination that the American people would work toward. Johnson s address gave many Americans hope and faith in a better world after feeling so much pain following the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Americans were anxious to move forward as a nation in support of the changed Johnson proposed. The Great Society was a proposed plan of actions intended to benefit the American people. Johnson developed the Great Society in a utopian fashion that proposed programs concerning the cities, the environment and education which in return brought modern liberalism into turmoil and broadened the administrative state. Taking office after the assassination of John F. Kennedy put tremendous pressure on Johnson. Not only did he have his own ideas, he also needed to fulfill the legacy left by Kennedy. In order to do both, he created the Great Society. Johnson wished to create the glue that kept the American people together and according to Paul C. Aiken and John M. Redding (1965) he fulfilled his famous words of, Let us continue... while addressing the country after that fatal day in Dallas and passing several acts to better the country. • 12. Meeting Of The Minds Project Personal Reflection Paper Prior to the Meeting of the Minds project, at the beginning of the semester, I did not think this course on would have much of an effect on me. However, as the weeks went by, I began to have a different idea of what it meant to be a critical thinker, and I quickly realized how important it was for me to embody the definition of this type of thinking. As the school year progressed, I found myself analyzing my perception of the topics friends and family discussed from an outsider s perspective. While I used to think of myself as a critical thinker, this class made me evaluate how good I am at analyzing different subjects and whether I actually reach good educated conclusions. When finding claims to research, I realized how important it is to be educated on different subjects, regardless of whether it affects one directly or not. Along with this, I have also become cautious of how authors or speakers portray their stance on a subject, and whether or not they are biased, and as a result, I believe I now can reach educated conclusions. The most common fear in intractable conflict is the fear of losing one s identity and security. Fears of extinction, fears of the future, and fears of oppression. On January 6, 1941, President Franklin D. In 1929 the stock market crashed causing overnight chaos and devastation, similarly in 2008 the stock market once again failed surpassing even the Great Depression of 1929. Among the public there was only ignorance as to what to do in both situations. They withdrew money and Wall Street plummeted to its all time low. Patterns that could have been seen from 1929 were not caught in 2008. Unfortunately, history does repeat itself. In both cases, the fear of what was occurring had people protesting and Turing to the federal government for help. The fear of loosing something took hold of people s minds and how they reacted to the event, not just in 1929 but it paralleled in 2008. • 14. My Family As An Extended Family Introduction From an early age I placed a very high value on being a part of my family. At first it was most likely feeling safe and secure. That being said, I had the logical realization that family was important. Of special importance were grandparents and the extended family members. Being born in a town where both sets of grandparents resided in addition to all the rest of my extended family was very comforting to me. Being the first born grandchild had its advantages. I became very attached to all the grandparents and enjoyed love, attention and quality time frequently until the first grade when we moved. When my younger sister was born, I never felt replaced or left out because of the quality time my grandparents invested in me. Even after my family moved a state away we always went back for holidays, birthdays and summer vacations. I have a great deal of wonderful memories from my childhood. My mother s father, my grandfather, was a very large presence in the community. He was well respected in both the white as well as the black community in which he owned a grocery store. This was unusual because there was a lot of racial tension and discrimination in Southern Alabama in the 1960 s. He was a tall man at six foot five and was a hard worker. He often bailed people out of jail and helped them with food when they were financially strapped anonymously. He was a Sunday school teacher and had good moral values. I learned later that before I came along he had been an alcoholic, a smoker, had been known for his quick temper, was not religious and had been unfaithful to my grandmother. As it was told to me, one Sunday morning he got up, got dressed, went to church and never took another drink or smoked again and was a radically changed man. He became a kind, caring, charitable person. He was more of a father to me in many ways than my dad and we had long talks in which he stressed the important things in life. He and my grandmother took my sister and I fishing on the lake. We camped in the camper. We stayed for vacations at the Gulf of Mexico. The stories he told, lessons I learned and loving affection he genuinely offered is something I consider a gift I have never forgotten. The reason I never forgot is ... • 17. Indications For Liver Biopsy And Histological Assessment... INDICATIONS FOR LIVER BIOPSY Liver biopsy and histological assessment of the liver has now taken on an important role in clinical management. Therefore liver biopsy currently has two major roles: (A) Diagnostic purposes: Liver biopsy is helpful in diagnosis of many forms of liver disease such as acute and chronic hepatitis (Wilson disease, alpha 1 antitrypsin disease, glycogen storage diseases, AIH, NiemannPick disease and others), cholestatic disorders, fatty liver disease, vascular diseases, infiltrative or storage diseases, some infectious diseases, and other disorders that may be associated with characteristic histological abnormalities. It also plays a role in the diagnosis of patients with abnormal liver tests of unknown etiology (Czaja et al., 2007). (B) Liver biopsy in the assessment of known liver disease: Liver histology is also commonly used in disease monitoring of patients with AIH. First, the portal based plasma cell infiltrate may predict relapse and second, liver biopsy is often obtained prior to steroid dose reduction and/or discontinuation of immunosuppressive therapy (Rockey et al., 2009). 1 Neonatal Cholestasis Some forms of neonatal cholestasis can be identified biochemically and genetically, but others require LB. • 18. Rousseau s Theory Of The General Will In Rousseau s Social Contract, he presents the doctrine of the general will, which has two distinct strands. The first strand states that the general will comprises of the will of the assembled people, if certain conditions are met; the second strand says that the general will is always right and always tends to the public utility. This inconsistent definition has brought confusion upon what the general will actually is, and brings to question whether or not these two parts can be reconciled to form one concrete definition. Since Rousseau s explanation is paradoxical, the point of this essay is to clarify what the connection between these two aspects, reason why they cannot be put together and determine that the first aspect is the more important one for Rousseau s view. In this paper, I will explain what the general will is by explaining the two strands, evaluate them, and then I will end this paper with the conclusion that these two aspects cannot be put together, and that the first definition is the more important one. The two aspects cannot be reconciled, as they represent different things the first represents where the general will comes from, and the second is more of a representation of what the general will would be in ideal circumstances, yet the first one is the primary aspect, as it expresses the collective decision made by the people. The purpose of our research was to determine the most common ethical problems an actuary faces, and the most appropriate methods to solve these problems. Solutions were necessary so that our stakeholders, current and prospective actuaries, will have more guidance when faced with these dilemmas. Through this report, we will explore these subtopics in great detail, and offer several solutions to these three most common ethical situations an actuary encounters, as well as recommendations on how to avoid these ethical problems from ever arising. Methods Our primary means of research was the internet. We found most of our sources by exploring the many professional actuarial groups, and looking through their collections of articles and periodicals. We found that our best sources were from professional organizations such as the Society of Actuaries, and the Casualty Actuarial Society, both publish periodicals with reliable articles from accredited actuaries. • 20. Discrimination, Discrimination And Discrimination Essay Unfortunately, discrimination has been occurring in America for hundreds of years. Evidence proves this when the European settlers began colonizing America and making the Native American people their slaves. It didn t stop there, discrimination and racism was even more apparent when the Jim Crow Laws were passed. The Jim Crow Laws enforced segregation between the whites and the African Americans. For years, the unlucky Americans of all races, colors, and sexual orientation have endured discrimination at some point in their lives. One major issue that many Americans endure is discrimination in the work place. Throughout the years, learning how to avoid discrimination has become a priority. Police chief Crystal Moore of Latta, South Carolina had to experience her own battle with discrimination. Chief Moore has been the Police Chief of Latta County for 23 years when she was fired for reasons believing related to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender or LGBT lifestyle. Chief Moore is an openly Lesbian Police Chief who has not encountered any issues prior to being fired by Mayor Earl Bullard. Mayor Bullard had become Mayor this year, in 2016. When Mayor Bullard was questioned about the termination of police chief Moore, he claimed it was due to the seven reprimands of questionable behavior, difficulty with maintaining order and other reasons that were not disclosed. Chief Moore claimed none of those reprimands were true, and she had done nothing wrong or unethical. Chief ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Frankenstein And A Modern Prometheus MJ DeMarco, author and entrepreneur, related choices in life to hitting a golf ball. If the club is rotated even a fraction of a degree when it hits the ball, the ball has a trajectory that diverges further away from the golf course until it is nearly impossible to get back on track. (Pros) At first the change is hardly noticeable, but later its consequences are so devastating that its new course is completely transformed from the course it used to be on. (Pros) Like this situation, DeMarco says that one bad choice can set one s trajectory off by only one fraction of a degree today, but in the future the error is magnified and has monumental consequences. (Pros) What appears to be a good choice, ends up being a bad choice in the end. This idea connects to two of the main themes in Frankenstein or A Modern Prometheus: the dangerous pursuit of knowledge and fate versus free will. The choice to pursue knowledge may be appealing, but it has life threatening consequences, like fate for instance. In Frankenstein or A Modern Prometheus, Mary Shelley uses the motif of light to illuminate and connect the themes of fate vs. free will and the dangers of the pursuit of knowledge. The motif of light establishes a connection with the theme of the pursuit of dangerous knowledge by forming the concept that light is the way to knowledge. This motif/idea is first introduced in Walton s first letter when he says, What may not be expected in a country of eternal light? (Shelley 11) Walton ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Elora Gorge is an important landscape in Ontario and is also a prime example of significant change to a landscape by physical processes. Largely, it is the result of erosion by water at the end of the last glacial period. The most recent glacier over North America, the Laurentide Ice Sheet, resided almost all over Canada. Eventually, the sheet melted, allowing water possessing a strong stream discharge to be released in numerous directions. One of these melt out pathways formed the Elora Gorge. Similar to how other gorges are created, it was the energy of the river water rushing from the melting glacier that was able to cut into the surface of the bedrock. Streams carved through ... However, the best candidate from the time was Titus Petronius (Arbiter). The story, looking especially from the scene Dinner with Trimalchio, is a satiric masterwork of the pragmatic and materialistic attitude of the time, soon to be replaced by Christianity. Dinner with Trimalchio tells a tale from the perspective of Encolpius, a vagabond student of the master Agamemnon, who is invited along as a pupil of Agamemnon to a banquet. The host of the banquet is Gaius Trimalchio, who was once a slave but now a freedman millionaire, who worked hard to attain his power and wealthy status. Trimalchio is known ... Without the help and generosity of Fortunata, Trimalchio would, himself, be a second class citizen who struggles to pay for daily bread, like most of the poor lower class Romans. Another way Petronius exemplifies his purpose of writing this story is showing the importance of education in ancient Rome during the time, and how the culture valued it so much. Agamemnon, the scholarly teacher and friend of Trimalchio, is very well respected by the populace of the story. There is one passage in particular where Trimalchio tries to spark a conversation with Agamemnon about the stores of Hercules and Ulysses wherein Trimalchio makes obvious to Agamemnon that he is not well read in Homer s literature, yet pretends to be. Trimalchio questions, Do you remember the twelve labours of Hercules and the story of Ulysses how the Cyclops tore out his thumb with a pair of pincers. Well, in the year 1518, some people started to take that literally. I ve always been a fan of things that nobody could explain. I think it s incredible that with all of the advancements in technology and science, there s still things that have happened that make people scratch their heads and go, huh? When writing this speech, I considered several different possibilities, the Bermuda Triangle, Amelia Earhart, but I finally settled on this. This particular unexplained incident happened, as I said, in the year 1518. Today, I plan to explain to you guys what the Dancing Plague was, similar instances and effects, and what could have possibly caused it. First, let me give you the background. In the year 1518 a single woman suddenly began dancing in the streets of Strasbourg, France. There was no music playing at the time to prompt her to start dancing and evidently, she seemed upset to be dancing. By the end of a week, somewhere between thirty and forty people had started to dance with her. Within a month, more than 400 people were dancing, without stopping. For whatever reason, the authorities and leaders of the town seemed to think that the best way to stop the dancing was to keep people dancing. It makes no sense to me, but I guess they figured they would dance it out of their system. They built a stage for them to dance on, got professional dancers to dance with ... • 26. The Transition to Postmodernism Essay The Transition to Postmodernism Works Cited Not Included Postmodernism is a difficult term to define, as it is evident in many different disciplines, such as art, literature, architecture, technology, and, the precise emerging moment of this movement is also hard to identify. In order to truly understand `Postmodernism, one must first identify with `Modernism and it s subsequent decline which led to the appearance of the Post modern ear. It is often suggested that Postmodernity is simply a continuation or advancement of Modernity. For example, Bauman, (Crook, Pakulski, Walters, 1992: p.2) claims that `Postmodernism is simply a replacement of classical Modern capitalist society . The sudden upheaval of Modernism was not wholly shocking, as it did offer some assurance as to direction this change was taking; modern societies were going to grow and differentiate. (Crook, Pakulski, Walters, 1992: p.2) This can be seen in Anderson s text, Modernity and Revolution. In it, he evokes the arguments of Marshall Berman in All That Is Solid Melts Into Air, in which Berman shone light once again on the relationship between Modernity and revolution. Modernism is acknowledged as a `body of experience (Anderson, EL875) of which is universally and globally shared. Berman and Anderson reflect on Modernism in a positive way, underlining that it can unite all mankind. This movement, according to Anderson, would not only envelope experiences of adventure and development, but would also, as I mentioned previously, endanger all that we are familiar with, and thus, in Marx s words, all that is solid melts into air. (Anderson, EL875; p.317) Anderson questions the propeller of this whirlpool of change and identifies the initiator as socioeconomic modernization ; these being social processes such as scientific advances and urbanization. These new ideas and visions allow each person to change and claim this new age as their own. Anderson distinguishes the connection between the terms `Modernity, `Modernization; and `Modernism. He states that `Modernity is the process which links the economics of `Modernization and the culture of `Modernism. This is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Impact Of Sildenafil Citrate On The Drug Industry John Jayasankar AP Biology Mr. Cross Drug Paper October 5, 2014 Viagra History: Viagra also known as sildenafil citrate was originally synthesized at Pfizer headquarters in Sandwich, Kent, England by a group of pharmaceutical chemists in 1989. The two people who are attributed with creating sildenafil citrate, and who were consequently the most important in doing research and development on the drug were chemists Peter Dunn and Albert Wood. They originally composed this drug, sildenafil citrate, to help treat angina and high blood pressure, two symptoms that are usually indicative of coronary heart disease. The drug is classified as UK 92480. Later, in 1991, when the drug is patented by Dr. Nicholas Terrett, who is also referred to as the father of Viagra , sildenafil citrate received its modern name, Viagra. A few years afterward, in the early 1990s, Pfizer compiles several early test in order to prove Viagra s capabilities in reducing angina and treating high blood pressure. These trials, however, prove that Viagra is not effective at treating this symptoms at all, although the trial patients were reporting ongoing erections after consuming Viagra. This got Pfizer thinking, and in March of 1998, Pfizer re patents Viagra and the FDA approves it, and instead markets it as a drug to help people who are suffering from erectile dysfunction (ED), and this time Pfizer has research to back their claim. Breastfeeding Intention, Motivation And Initiation Essay Breastfeeding Intention, Motivation and Initiation The small amount of breastfeeding intention research that exists focuses heavily on populations considered at risk, referring to those in economically disadvantaged areas or lower wage earners with lower educational backgrounds, often with lower maternal age and worse outcomes in the birth process (Cabieses et al., 2014; Declercq et al., 2014; Holbrook et al., 2013; Li et al., 2005: McInnes et al., 2001; Shaker et al., 2004). These studies show that women s attitudes regarding breastfeeding create strong motivators for the intent to breastfeed. Those with positive associations with breastfeeding are most likely to want to breastfeed and those with negative associations with breastfeeding are most likely to choose not to breastfeed. In studies where women were selected as the result of choosing not to breastfeed, researchers found heightened levels of expressed personal reasons that reflected negative associations with breastfeeding, including a lack of consistent education by hospital staff (Ogbuanu et al., 2009; Shaker et al., 2004; Wirihana Barnard, 2011). Education in mixed method feedings was lacking at all levels of intention to breastfeed, Geraghty et al. (2013) noted, even in a population study that was based on respondents who wanted to breastfeed, and sought professional help for problems while breastfeeding. Intention is also linked to the expected success of breastfeeding, as indicated by Attanasio et al. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the largest reasons for his successful campaign for President was his prowess as a military tactician and his expert use of the mission command system. They actively collaborate with other commanders, the staff, and unified action partners, to create a shared understanding. Understanding the mission is a crucial step to start the military decision making process because not understanding the task at hand will create blurred vision of the commander s intent for any given mission. As Governor of the Indiana Territory, Harrison understood that the treaties with the Native Confederacy were extremely fragile. As Tecumseh and his brother s efforts to demean the treaties value continued, Governor Harrison realized that a conflict was inevitable inside his territory. Harrison suggested, as a means to prevent war, that the calamity might be avoided by marching a considerable force up the Wabash and dispersing the banditti the Prophet had collected. With the idea of preemptive attack firmly planted in his head, he sowed the seeds for the eventual battle that later ensued. Harrison also had received intelligence that the great Native leader Tecumseh was recruiting more warriors to his cause, which furthered the fear that the Natives would grow stronger and eventually raid the settlers to take back some of the lands ceded from them. This intelligence furthered the idea to Harrison that he needed to field an army and quell the Native rebellion before it got too out of hand. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
