New: robust photoelectric sensor with long sensing ranges for demanding applications

The press release announces a new robust photoelectric sensor called the OI Cube from ifm electronic. The sensor has long sensing ranges of up to 800 mm for diffuse types and up to 15 m for retro-reflective types. It is well-suited for conveying applications where high ranges are needed. A special feature is the multiturn potentiometer for precisely setting the switch point, which is displayed on a scale and remains linear with distance. The sensor is robust enough to withstand harsh industrial conditions.

This paper reports the principle and characteristics of the
proposed sensor. Experiments show that the sensor output
depends on touch area, touch velocity, and material of touch
objects. However, the sensor does not depend on touch weight.
Moreover, the experiment shows that even if the proposed

Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Essen, February 2013 – The newly developed photoelectric OI Cube sensor from ifm electronic is distinguished by long ranges up to 800 mm for diffuse types and up to 15 m for retro-reflective types. For diffuse type sensors the range can be set precisely using the multiturn potentiometer and is shown on a scale. Even under harsh industrial conditions the range remains independent of colour. Optimum choice for conveying applications The OI design from ifm electronic is designed for position detection in conveying where high ranges are needed. As diffuse type the sensor operates independently of colour so that objects with different surfaces can be detected reliably without readjustment. The metallic M30 type housing is extremely robust. Even without additional protection the sensor withstands impacts and shocks. Simple switch point setting A special feature is the switch point setting using the multiturn potentiometer and a distance scale. The turns and the scale value are linear to the distance (e. g. "1" = 100 mm, "2" = 200 mm etc.). So before connecting the sensor the switch point can be set and seen from the sensor scale at any time. You can hardly think of anything simpler and faster.
