Sense organs help you
appreciate and explore
your environment.
You have five sense organs:
•You have eyes for your sense of sight.
•You have ears for your sense of hearing.
•You have nose for your sense of smell.
•You have tongue for your sense of taste.
•You have skin for your sense of touch.
EYES: THE SENSE OF SIGHT
What part of the body lets you see the
sun every morning?
What makes you see birds fly and the
dogs run?
Your eyes are your organ for seeing. They
help you see things.
EARS: THE SENSE OF HEARING
Your ears enable you to recognize, appreciate,
and reproduce sounds, especially music or
language.
The ear is an advanced and very sensitive organ of
the human body. The ear's function is to transmit
and transduce sound to the brain through the
parts of the ear: the outer ear, the middle ear and
the inner ear. The major task of the ear is to
detect, transmit and transduce sound.
The ear has a tunnel like
structure that helps you to
hear sounds.
It is divided into 3 parts;
the outer ear, middle ear
and inner ear.
TONGUE: THE ORGAN OF
TASTE
Eating is one of the many
activities that people enjoy.
The tongue is vital for chewing and
swallowing food, as well as for
speech. The four common tastes are
sweet, sour, bitter, and salty. A fifth
taste, called umami, results from
tasting. The tongue has many nerves
that help detect and transmit taste
signals to the brain.
NOSE: THE ORGAN OF SMELL
The nose is the body's primary organ of
smell and also functions as part of the
body's respiratory system. Air comes into
the body through the nose. As it passes
over the specialized cells of the olfactory
system, the brain recognizes and identifies
smells. Hairs in the nose clean the air of
foreign particles.
SKIN: THE ORGAN OF TOUCH
Our sense of touch allows us to
receive information about our
internal and external
environments, making it
important for sensory perception.
