- 4. How this happened…Howthis happened… On April 26th 1986 the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant was conducting a test that ended with an explosion of the No. 4 reactor. Operators had allowed power levels to drop as part of a safety experiment, disabling key mechanisms that would have shut the plant down if anything went wrong. No Lymphatic System
