2. What is Special Education?
Special education programs are designed for those
students who are Mentally, Physically, Socially or
Emotionally delayed etc. children and persons. Special
education programs and services adapt content, teaching
methodology and delivery instruction to meet the
appropriate needs of each child and person.
According to Alam S. M “Special education is not
only for Disabled, Impaired or Handicapped children, it
is also relevant to Mainstreaming children. Special
education is an applied education from Human birth till
death”.
3. Aims and objectives of Special Education
The policy objective of special education is to
provide a conducive learning environment for
students with Special educational needs so as to
facilitate their education, help them develop
their potential to the full, enhance their
independence and enable them to become well-
adjusted individuals in the community.
4. To create an environment that means the special educational needs of
each child and person.
To ensure that the special educational needs of children or persons are
identified, assessed and provided for appropriate services.
To clear the expectations of all parents in the process.
To identify the roles and responsibilities of staff in providing for children or
persons those who are special educationally needs.
To enable all children or persons to have full access to all elements of the
school curriculum and their community.
To ensure that parents are able to play their part in supporting their child’s
education.
To ensure that Equal opportunity, full participation and protection of their
rights. Etc.

5. Principles of special education
Zero rejection.
Nondiscrimination.
Identification, assessment and evaluation of Children with Special
needs.
Least restrictive Environment.

IEP.
Special process: The process implies that the parents of CwD have
the rights to evaluate the efforts of the school system to identify
and assess the CwD, to modify the programme of the school to
meet the special needs of these children and, if they are not
satisfied with the programme of the school, they the rights to
widraw their children from that school for a better programme in
any other educational institution.
Parental process: special education can be made effective if
parents participate actively in the educational programme designed
for CwD.
6. Special educator
Special education teachers work with pupils who
have a wide range of Learning, Mental,
Emotional, Physical etc. disabilities. They adapt
general education lessons and teach various
subjects, such as reading, writing and
mathematics, to students with mild and
moderate disabilities.
7. Role of special Educators
The main role of the special education teacher is to provide
instruction and support which facilitates the participation
of pupils with disabilities in the regular classroom.
The Special Education Teachers Should:
i. Collaborate with general education teacher in adapting the
curriculum, providing appropriate modifications, ensuring the
implementation of modification and assessing overall progress of
the child.
ii. Complete and maintain all assigned student’s records. Like IEP,
Progress report, Behaviour Plan Etc.
iii. Additionally, special education teachers play an Important role in
child’s educational goals for the year through their Individual
Education Plan.
