This document discusses different types of fractures of the musculoskeletal system. It categorizes fractures as non-displaced, open, or closed. Some specific fracture types mentioned include closed fractures which do not break the skin, Colles' fractures of the wrist, comminuted fractures where the bone is shattered, and compound or open fractures where the skin is broken. Additional fracture types discussed are spiral fractures caused by twisting forces, oblique fractures at an angle to the bone, and pathologic fractures caused by diseased or weakened bones such as from osteoporosis or cancer. Pictures are included to illustrate simple versus compound fractures and a pathologic femur fracture from osteoporosis.
