2. Definition of a fracture When we here fractured, many people automatically think of broken bones, however there is more involved in a fracture. There are several types of fractures In this presentation I will go over three types of fractures Stress fracture Greenstick fracture Colles fracture
3. THIS PICTURE SHOWS THE COMMON AREAS OF A STRESS FRACTURE A common overuse injury most common in athletes who run and jump on hard surfaces ie: basketball players, ballet dancers, and long distance runners etc.
4. A STRESS FRACTURE OCCURS WHEN THE FORCES ARE MUCH LOWER BUT HAPPEN REPETIVETLY FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME. ALSO KNOW AS “ FATIQUE FRACTURES”
5. X-rays usually do not show a stress fracture so further studies indicate mri or bone scan may be necessary if problem does not resolve after rest which is usually the recommended treatment.
6. IN THE PICTURE IT SHOWS THE RADIUS BONE, WHICH IS ON THE SIDE WITH THE THUMB AND THE ULNA BONE WHICH IS ON THE SIDE WITH THE SMALL FINGER COLLES FRACTURE ALSO KNOW AS DISTAL RADIUS FRACTURE OR DISTAL ULNA FRACTURE. THE RADIUS IS THE MOST COMMON OF THE TWO.
7. COLLES FRACTURES USUALLY OCCURS WHEN SOMEONE TRYIES TO CATCH THEIR FALL WITH THE WRIST OUT STRECTCHED. X-RAY VIEW OF A NORMAL WRIST FROM THE FRONT LEFT AND THE SIDE RIGHT X-RAY OF A TYPICAL DISTAL RADIUS FRACTURE, THE BROKEN BONE IS THE ONE WITH THE PINS
8. Greenstick fractures are common in children because their bones are more flexible than adult bones THE PICTURE BELOW SHOWS A GREENSTICK FRACTURE. NOTICE THE INCOMPLETE BREAK IN THE BONE, THAT’S WHAT HAPPENS IN CHILDRENS BONES, IT DOES NOT BREAK ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BONE.

I have just presented you with three types of bone fracture but know there are more then three and it takes care testing and diagnosing in order to provide the correct treatment needed for healing.
