The skeletal system comprises all of the bones in the human body, providing support, protection, and producing blood cells and storing minerals. Bones can fracture in different ways depending on the type and impact of an accident, such as falling. There are several types of bone fractures including simple, compound, spiral, oblique, impacted, transverse, greenstick, and comminuted. Simple fractures have no open skin wound while compound fractures have an open wound and are more serious. Comminuted fractures involve bones shattered into small pieces requiring surgical fixation to heal properly.

3. Depending upon the type of accident and its impact; bones can be fractured in many different ways. Sometimes we can have accidents, like falling, which causes our bones to break.

6. Compound fractures have an open skin wound, as shown here. They are more serious than simple fractures & take longer to heal. Some compound fractures never completely heal. COMPOUND FRACTURES

7. To the right are multiple comminuted fractures. These are fractures in which the bone is shattered, splintered, or crushed into small pieces or fragments. Healing these kinds of fractures often require surgical insertion of metallic pins, nails, plates, wires, or screws to hold the fragments in place to heal with minimal deformity.
