5. Predicting
•This strategy involves the ability of readers to
get meaning from a text or picture by making
informed predictions. Good readers use
predicting as a way to connect their existing
knowledge to new information from a text to get
meaning from what they read.
6. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the learners are expected to:
1. define predicting,
2. make predictions in science investigation and in
different scenarios,
3. appreciate the importance of predicting.
8. Situation:
You saw a boy running fast on the street and
a banana peel along his path. The boy did not
seem to notice the banana peel.
Answer the following question:
•What do you think will happen next?

protein and no rice for 1 month.
Answer the following question:
1. What do you think will happen next?
2. Why do you think so?
3. How did you come up with that idea?
17. What is predicting?
Is a basic science process skill that uses
past observations and data with other
scientific knowledge to forecast events,
phenomena, and relationships.
Let’s Elaborate
18. When making a prediction...
•Use your senses to observe and collect
data/information
•Notice any patterns
•Make connections to your knowledge
•Predict what you think will happen in the
future based on these things
19. Why is predicting important?
•predictions allows people to plan for future
events.
•Predictions allows national and local officials
prepare and make good decisions during
calamities.
•Predictions helps doctors to provide accurate
medicine to cure a specific disease or to
prevent the spread of it.

Looking at the data reported in every news program about the daily
confirmed positive COVID-19 cases in the country. What do you think might
happen in the future if people would continuously ignore the minimum
health standard as mandated by the government? Show your prediction
using the following format of your choice to inform the people what might
happen if they would not cooperate.
(Poster, Poem, Essay, Slogan, Video, Song and other format of your choice)
