Finance
Give a definition for each of the terms listed
Self Financed: This is where the creator funds their project solely, as opposed to
asking for a sufficient amount of money from potential investors. The product
relies on the funding from the creator, so that it can be developed, and then
accomplished, and ready for distribution.
Employer/Client Financed: This is when the client provides the funding for the
product, so that the creator can develop the product, which can then be
distributed to the client, once the project has been fully completed.
Kickstarter: A Kickstarter is a company that funds smaller/newer companies which
may require financial support to expand their project/product.
Finance
Which source of funding will be most likely for your production and why?
For our production the most appropriate funding will be self-funding as then we will
not have to rely on anybody to fund us with our project.
Advantages: By funding ourselves for this project we will not have to rely on other
companies who may be unreliable and having to find another company last minute
to fund our project.
Disadvantages: There is a chance that we may constantly have to monitor our finances
due to the fact that we are self-reliant and we may run out of money if not careful.
Finance
List the aspects of your production that will require finance:
-Business cards
-Food e.g. goats cheese
-Camera
-Tripod
-Laptop/Computer
-Lighting
-Model (if required)
-Photoshop
-Internet
-Paper (recipe cards)
-Printing
- Energy Costs
Time
What methods could you employ to ensure you stick to your deadlines and why
would this be beneficial to your project?
To reach the deadlines for our project we could create a scheduletokeep us up to date
with the creation of our project. By creating an schedule it will allow us to share
out the responsibility and keep us on track to work towards our final product. A
schedule would be able to give usa realistic idea of how long it would take us to
complete our product.
Time
What is contingency time and how might this be beneficial to your project?
A Contingency will benefit our work as it will mean that if our first ideas don’t go as
planned we already have already organised an alternative to our first idea. By
having a contingency plan at the ready it will save us time instead of us wasting
time planning a new idea.
Personnel
What size team will you use for your production (large or small)? How many people
will you have in your team? Why?
We plan to use only two people within our team as that is all that is required for our
specific project as we don’t need to use any models therefore we will only need
ourselves to create our project.
Personnel
What job roles would you have in your production and what skills and experience
would be required?
In order to complete this project we would have to incorporate general media skills
within our work which would mean that we would need a couple of people to
initiate this work (this will be us working as a duo).
We would need to adopt these particular job roles so that we can complete the
project in a sufficient manner.
These include:
-Photographer
-Journalist
-Graphic designer
-Website designer
-Financial advisor
Personnel
How could you find people to be in your production team-
One of the ways that you can find employees for this project is by creating an
advertisement for the newspaper and list the skills that you want your staff to
have.
Another way to find your suitable staff would be to create an internet advertisement
that would state what the job role is and what skills your staff wouldneedto have
to work with your project.
An alternative way to a newspaper advertisement would be a magazine
advertisement, including a staff advertisement in a magazine may catch more
attention as you may be more likely to find someone that already has the skills
that you want your staff to have.
Facilities
List the equipment, resources and facilities you need for your production and its source
Equipment/Facility/Resources needed for
production
College Self Client
Camera X
Lighting X
Printing X
Food Products X
Paper X
Appropriate place photography (kitchen) X
Contributors
Contributor Type of Contribution
Team member The contribution of the team member would
be to help/input into creating the project.
Client The clients role is to give the company/staff
some kind of idea of what they want they
want their product to look like.
Tutor The tutors role is to evaluate the staffs work
and see if it is similar to what the client
requested and if needed give advice on how
to improve the work.
Photographer of Sourced Images The Photographers job is to take realistic and
clear images and either give the company the
images or even put the images on image stock
websites where companies can access the
images.
Locations
What method could you employ to identify locations needed for your production
(production/ post production facilities) and how could this be useful?
A way that you could find suitable locations for your project and the risk that these
places entail is by conducting a recce. A recce isan inspection that companies
cantake onto discover an appropriate location and to find out information such as:
-How long it will take to get there?
-Is permission needed to use ?
-Is it an appropriate area for your project?
-Arethere any safety risks?
-How much will it cost?
Locations
Are there any limitations or risks you would need to consider for your locations?
Location Limitation/Risk
College Limitation: amount of equipment
Risk: tripping hazards
Kitchen Limitation: lighting, space, furniture
Risks: sharp objects, tripping hazards, heat
Garden Limitation: appropriate furniture
Risks: tripping hazards, hygiene risks
Codes of Practice - Clearances
What is a model/location release form and why is it important to your production?
Model/location forms are important for your production as it will allow you to have
the full rights to your photography/photographs. The form will allow you to use
your images without having the risk of getting suedbythe model or the location
owner.
Codes of Practice - Legal
What legal requirements will you have to consider in your project and what aspects do they
relate to?
Aspect of Production Legal Consideration
Creating the food Health and Safety Act 1974
Precaution when photographing the images of the food Health and Safety Act 1974
Hazards (tripping over etc) Health and Safety Act 1974
Utilising images which are not ours, on our recipe cards. Copyright Law 1988
Taking photographs of the food itself Copyright Law 1988
Making our recipe cards Copyright Law 1988
Idea generation during pre-production Copyright Law 1988
Codes of Practice – Regulatory Bodies
Which regulatory body’s guidelines would you need to follow when creating your
production?
We would have to utilise the terms of the ASA (Advertising Standards Authority), as
this particular body monitors the accuracy of what is being presented to the
consumer, where they will remove any material that is deemed offensive,
inappropriate, or information that is highly inaccurate. It is notable that we would
have to follow these guidelines in order to complete our project to the best
possible standard, without any ethical or moral issues arising within our work. It is
notable that this particular body operates in regulating food and drink, especially
for a younger, more vulnerable audience.
Codes of Practice – Regulatory Bodies
Where can you source information from regarding these guidelines?
CAP (The Committee of Advertising Practice) create the rules for the ASA (Advertising
Standards Authority), who have been established in order to protect vulnerable
audiences from inappropriate material, that is sometimes distributed by media
producers. It is the role of this regulatory body to monitor the material, so that it
does not reach an audience in which it is not primarily targeted at.
The ASA is an independent body, which monitors all means of the media, primarily
focusing on that of the e-media platform, where online regulation is their main
priority, where they will remove any content that is offensive, misleading, or
controversial for the intended audience to view.

Pre production techniques pro-forma

  • 2. Finance Give a definition for each of the terms listed Self Financed: This is where the creator funds their project solely, as opposed to asking for a sufficient amount of money from potential investors. The product relies on the funding from the creator, so that it can be developed, and then accomplished, and ready for distribution. Employer/Client Financed: This is when the client provides the funding for the product, so that the creator can develop the product, which can then be distributed to the client, once the project has been fully completed. Kickstarter: A Kickstarter is a company that funds smaller/newer companies which may require financial support to expand their project/product.
  • 3. Finance Which source of funding will be most likely for your production and why? For our production the most appropriate funding will be self-funding as then we will not have to rely on anybody to fund us with our project. Advantages: By funding ourselves for this project we will not have to rely on other companies who may be unreliable and having to find another company last minute to fund our project. Disadvantages: There is a chance that we may constantly have to monitor our finances due to the fact that we are self-reliant and we may run out of money if not careful.
  • 4. Finance List the aspects of your production that will require finance: -Business cards -Food e.g. goats cheese -Camera -Tripod -Laptop/Computer -Lighting -Model (if required) -Photoshop -Internet -Paper (recipe cards) -Printing - Energy Costs
  • 5. Time What methods could you employ to ensure you stick to your deadlines and why would this be beneficial to your project? To reach the deadlines for our project we could create a scheduletokeep us up to date with the creation of our project. By creating an schedule it will allow us to share out the responsibility and keep us on track to work towards our final product. A schedule would be able to give usa realistic idea of how long it would take us to complete our product.
  • 6. Time What is contingency time and how might this be beneficial to your project? A Contingency will benefit our work as it will mean that if our first ideas don’t go as planned we already have already organised an alternative to our first idea. By having a contingency plan at the ready it will save us time instead of us wasting time planning a new idea.
  • 7. Personnel What size team will you use for your production (large or small)? How many people will you have in your team? Why? We plan to use only two people within our team as that is all that is required for our specific project as we don’t need to use any models therefore we will only need ourselves to create our project.
  • 8. Personnel What job roles would you have in your production and what skills and experience would be required? • 16. Codes of Practice – Regulatory Bodies Which regulatory body’s guidelines would you need to follow when creating your production? We would have to utilise the terms of the ASA (Advertising Standards Authority), as this particular body monitors the accuracy of what is being presented to the consumer, where they will remove any material that is deemed offensive, inappropriate, or information that is highly inaccurate. It is notable that we would have to follow these guidelines in order to complete our project to the best possible standard, without any ethical or moral issues arising within our work. It is notable that this particular body operates in regulating food and drink, especially for a younger, more vulnerable audience.
  • 17. Codes of Practice – Regulatory Bodies Where can you source information from regarding these guidelines? CAP (The Committee of Advertising Practice) create the rules for the ASA (Advertising Standards Authority), who have been established in order to protect vulnerable audiences from inappropriate material, that is sometimes distributed by media producers. It is the role of this regulatory body to monitor the material, so that it does not reach an audience in which it is not primarily targeted at. The ASA is an independent body, which monitors all means of the media, primarily focusing on that of the e-media platform, where online regulation is their main priority, where they will remove any content that is offensive, misleading, or controversial for the intended audience to view.
