It's time to deprecate JavaScript. It's security model and the language itself are appalling.
As data moves into the cloud the JavaScript threat is increasing and I believe the only way to fix this is to start all over again. The 14 year old language and security model aren't up to today's threats.

Polyglot payloads in practice by avlidienbrunn at HackPraMathias Karlsson
A lecture/talk describing how to build and use polyglot payloads for finding vulnerabilities in web applications that traditional payloads can't.
Here's the last slide: http://www.slideshare.net/MathiasKarlsson2/final-slide-36636479
XSS is much more than just <script>alert(1)</script>. Thousands of unique vectors can be built and more complex payloads to evade filters and WAFs. In these slides, cool techniques to bypass them are described, from HTML to javascript. See also http://brutelogic.com.br/blog
This presentation was used in OWASP Taiwan Week 2017 at Taipei & Kaohsiung. It talks about what Cross Site Request Forgery is, what are different ways to prevent it. And how it can be mitigated with OWASP CSRF Protector with just two lines of codes.
Integrity protection for third-party JavaScriptFrancois Marier
Modern web applications depend on a lot of auxiliary scripts which are often hosted on third-party CDNs. Should an attacker be able to tamper with the files hosted on such a CDN, millions of sites could be compromised. Web developers need a way to guarantee the integrity of scripts hosted elsewhere.
This is the motivation behind a new addition to the web platform being introduced by the W3C: sub-resource integrity. Both Firefox and Chrome have initial implementations of this new specification and a few early adopters are currently evaluating this feature.

Mitigate Maliciousness -- jQuery Europe 2013Mike West
jQuery has made it possible for developers to move more and more complex application logic down from the server to the client. This is a huge opportunity for JavaScript developers, and at the same time presents a tempting target for folks with malicious intent. It's more critical than ever to ensure that we're doing the right things with regard to security, and happily, modern browsers are here to help. Here, we'll talk about some of the new ways in which you can mitigate the effects of cross-site scripting and other attacks.
XSS Attacks Exploiting XSS Filter by Masato Kinugawa - CODE BLUE 2015CODE BLUE
Microsoft's web browsers, Internet Explorer and Edge, have a feature called 'XSS filter' built in which protects users from XSS attacks. In order to deny XSS attacks, XSS filter looks into the request for a string resembling an XSS attack, compares it with the page and finds the appearance of it, and rewrites parts of the string if it appears in the page. This rewriting process of the string - is this done safely? The answer is no. This time, I have found a way to exploit XSS filter not to protect a web page, but to create an XSS vulnerability on a web page that is completely sane and free of XSS vulnerability. In this talk, I will describe technical details about possibilities of XSS attacks exploiting XSS filter and propose what website administrators should do to face this XSS filter nightmare.
Keeping your web application secure is an ongoing process - new classes of vulnerabilities are discovered with surprising frequency, and if you don't keep on top of them you could be in for a nasty surprise. This talk will discuss both common and obscure vulnerabilities, with real-world examples of attacks that have worked against high profile sites in the past.

NOTES
--
Slide 8
Some of the categories we will discuss are very broad like this one.
Untrusted command – get / post / rest style params
Clicks
Surprise inputs
Slide 13
Very broad too
Little or no auth
Auth with some bypass possibilities
Some problem with how session is generated, managed, expired
Insufficient sessionID protection
Slide 18
When a user is tricked into clicking on a malicious link, submitting a specially crafted form, or even just browsing to a malicious site, the injected code travels to the vulnerable web site, which reflects the attack back to the user’s browser.
Slide 27
Security hardening throughout Application Stack
Unnecessary features enabled or installed?
ports, services, pages, accounts, privileges
Security settings in your development frameworks (e.g., Struts, Spring, ASP.NET) and libraries not set to secure values?
Default accounts/ passwords still enabled and unchanged?
Error handling reveal stack traces or other overly informative error messages to users?
Software out of date?
OS, Web Server, DBMS, applications, code libraries
Slide 41
sign up for updates or do regular audits to see versions
there might be technical dependencies
easily exploited by attackers using metaspoilt, info gathering using headers & responses, etc.
Slide 47
We can look at the architecture, give you tips around what you could use, what would be good. This would avoid making any major changes when the product is ready which would save everyone’s time in the long run.
Have sprints with dedicated security features and use those as a selling point for our security conscious customers
Slide 48
Carefully look at the license to make sure you can use it in your type of product. Ask Fallon if you are not sure
Research how much support it gets, how popular it is
Look to find out any vulnerabilities in it before you start using it
Maintain it; Sign up for CVE updates
Ask us if you need to get something reviewed
Slide 50
Not only better and more features
Security vulnerabilities get patched in new versions
New versions get most attention by the companies and old ones stop getting support after some time fully
Most Security Support by the community
Turn on auto updates for Chrome; always look at updates on AppStore
Slide 51
Use different passwords for different sites
Password managers let you set complexity, generate random passwords, etc.
Slide 52
Only grant access to whats needed to get the job done
employee leaves; mistakes; vulnerabilities in other s/w which leverages this;
Don’t install redundant software, plugins, etc.
This opens up so much risk
People forget to uninstall them; s/w doesn't get much attention from community; open ports are left; boom exploited by attackers;
Slide 55
To prevent unintended execution actions
e.g., fail open auth errors
Leak minimal info about infrastructure as this info is leveraged by attackers to carry out further attacks
Dave Orchard - Offline Web Apps with HTML5Web Directions
There’s an old expression, that there are only 2 hard problems in computing: naming, cache invalidation and off-by-one errors. Building offline web apps is all about those hard problems. There are some different ways of storing stuff — such as html5 caching, html5 storage, sqllite, and even native stores such as contacts and calendars — and we’ll sing their praises. But the really hard problems are knowing what to store, whether the stuff is still good or needs refreshing, how much to store, how to resolve conflicts between the client and server, how to integrate with data-specific stores, all in a bewildering cacophony of network and storage limited devices. We’ll spend the bulk of our time on these hard problems, which is probably more useful than api description and sample code.
Dave Orchard is Mobile Architect at Salesforce.com and located in Vancouver, Canada. This means being involved in many mobile platforms, architectures, tools, technologies and APIs. Prior to that, he was a co-founder of Ayogo Games and focused on iPhone and ruby/merb/mysql based casual social games. Back further in the mists of time, he was the Web standards lead for BEA Systems for 7 years, including being elected three times to 2 year terms on the W3C Technical Architecture Group chaired by Sir Tim Berners-Lee.

8 Most Common Joomla! Hacks and How to Avoid ThemDaniel Kanchev
On 23.03.2013 I visited The Netherlands to give the keynote speak about Joomla! web security. I talked about the most common 8 ways a Joomla! website can get hacked. So you should check the presentation if you are a Joomla! hacker that knows less than 8 ways :) It will be useful for you. However, if you are a Joomla user that doesn’t know anything about how to hack a Joomla!, or even worse, how to protect your Joomla! from being hacked, you should definitely check the slides! Because there is a way to protect yourself from each of the common Joomla hacks that I revealed them in the presentation.
I went through the following scenarios and what should be done to prevent each of them:
- Hacked through outdated Joomla!/extensions/themes.
- Hacked through a vulnerable extensions/themes, that is not outdated
- Hacked with the help of stolen/weak login details
- Hacked through outdated/vulnerable server software - Apache, PHP, MySQL.
- Hacked through incorrectly configured web server
- A completely healthy site hacked through another vulnerable Joomla that is hosted on the same server
- Hacked because of incorrect Joomla permissions
- Hacked through malware on local PC which allows attackers to access a healthy site

Hybrid optimization of pumped hydro system and solar- Engr. Abdul-Azeez.pdffxintegritypublishin
Advancements in technology unveil a myriad of electrical and electronic breakthroughs geared towards efficiently harnessing limited resources to meet human energy demands. The optimization of hybrid solar PV panels and pumped hydro energy supply systems plays a pivotal role in utilizing natural resources effectively. This initiative not only benefits humanity but also fosters environmental sustainability. The study investigated the design optimization of these hybrid systems, focusing on understanding solar radiation patterns, identifying geographical influences on solar radiation, formulating a mathematical model for system optimization, and determining the optimal configuration of PV panels and pumped hydro storage. Through a comparative analysis approach and eight weeks of data collection, the study addressed key research questions related to solar radiation patterns and optimal system design. The findings highlighted regions with heightened solar radiation levels, showcasing substantial potential for power generation and emphasizing the system's efficiency. Optimizing system design significantly boosted power generation, promoted renewable energy utilization, and enhanced energy storage capacity. The study underscored the benefits of optimizing hybrid solar PV panels and pumped hydro energy supply systems for sustainable energy usage. Optimizing the design of solar PV panels and pumped hydro energy supply systems as examined across diverse climatic conditions in a developing country, not only enhances power generation but also improves the integration of renewable energy sources and boosts energy storage capacities, particularly beneficial for less economically prosperous regions. Additionally, the study provides valuable insights for advancing energy research in economically viable areas. Recommendations included conducting site-specific assessments, utilizing advanced modeling tools, implementing regular maintenance protocols, and enhancing communication among system components.
Sachpazis:Terzaghi Bearing Capacity Estimation in simple terms with Calculati...Dr.Costas Sachpazis
Terzaghi's soil bearing capacity theory, developed by Karl Terzaghi, is a fundamental principle in geotechnical engineering used to determine the bearing capacity of shallow foundations. This theory provides a method to calculate the ultimate bearing capacity of soil, which is the maximum load per unit area that the soil can support without undergoing shear failure. The Calculation HTML Code included.
Water scarcity is the lack of fresh water resources to meet the standard water demand. There are two type of water scarcity. One is physical. The other is economic water scarcity.
Hierarchical Digital Twin of a Naval Power SystemKerry Sado
A hierarchical digital twin of a Naval DC power system has been developed and experimentally verified. Similar to other state-of-the-art digital twins, this technology creates a digital replica of the physical system executed in real-time or faster, which can modify hardware controls. However, its advantage stems from distributing computational efforts by utilizing a hierarchical structure composed of lower-level digital twin blocks and a higher-level system digital twin. Each digital twin block is associated with a physical subsystem of the hardware and communicates with a singular system digital twin, which creates a system-level response. By extracting information from each level of the hierarchy, power system controls of the hardware were reconfigured autonomously. This hierarchical digital twin development offers several advantages over other digital twins, particularly in the field of naval power systems. The hierarchical structure allows for greater computational efficiency and scalability while the ability to autonomously reconfigure hardware controls offers increased flexibility and responsiveness. The hierarchical decomposition and models utilized were well aligned with the physical twin, as indicated by the maximum deviations between the developed digital twin hierarchy and the hardware.
